Address book field

How to use the feature of merging Address Book Fields into normal templates (not tables) with this new Pages version 5?

Mail Merge feature is no more available in Pages 5.
Hope Apple adds that feature back soon.
Best.

  • How to add an address book field into a Numbers spreadsheet?

In Pages, I can add an address book field so I can drag & drop a contact from my address book into the actual document without having to type out the address, city, state, zip etc.
Is this possible in Numbers? I use spreadsheets to create invoices and I really miss the drag and drop features that I have gotten used to in Pages.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello,
It seems that all the same Functions are available for calculations in a table within Pages as in Numbers. Perhaps you could keep working in Pages and do your invoice calculations there.
Highlight the table cell into which you want to place a calculation and select Insert - Function from the Command Menu.

  • Address book fields

    Hello,
I am wondering if 08 has the ability to insert "custom" address book fields. I use the related names/custom fields for a lot of information. With the pages I currently have I can insert all the standard address book fields but it will not recognize anything I have "created" myself.
For example I run a janitorial business and one of the fields I made was "price". I added that to the address book template so every time I add a new contact I have a field that says "price". When I go to print my bid I must manually enter the price on my pages template because only the address and name information is insertable.
I would definitely upgrade if I can merge any record.

I have encountered the same problem. For now I am just using a patchwork solution by using some of the standard fields to represent something other than what they are intended, but this is not optimal. Have you found a solution? Do you know if Mac is going to fix this with an upgrade of IWork or Address Book?
    Thanks,

  • How to merge address book fields

    Okay, here goes...
I have created a template page in Pages so that I can print out some laser address labels and utilise the merge address book fields to speed up the process, but I have hit a problem.
The template that I have created has 21 text boxes with address fields applied, so I thought I would end up with 21 different addresses on one page.
Wrong! I have ended up with hundreds of pages with 21 of the same address per page, when really I want there to be 21 different addresses per page.
What am I doing wrong here? Can Pages handle this kind of thing as I know that it works perfectly for letters where you would only have one address per page.
    Please help
    Regards

    You thought wrongly
Wrong! I have ended up with hundreds of pages with 21 of the same address per page, when really I want there to be 21 different addresses per page.
    This is the normal behavior
It's perfectly described in the Help which states:
Inserting Recipient Data for Contacts in Multiple Cards
You can personalize a document for multiple recipients by using multiple Address Book cards.
To insert recipient data for contacts in multiple cards:
Open a document that contains recipient fields.
Select the Address Book cards you want to use, and then drag them to a recipient field.
In the dialog that appears, choose New Document from the pop-up menu to create a new document that contains a section for each contact. Otherwise, choose “Send to printer” from the pop-up menu _to print a personalized copy of the document for each contact._
What am I doing wrong here? Can Pages handle this kind of thing as I know that it works perfectly for letters where you would only have one address per page.
You just didn't read sufficiently carefully the Help.
Pages is not designed to do what you want.

  • Address book field, multiple address merge on one page.

OK, after spending half a day tying to resolve this issue, I have given up. I do need to do this one way or another. Appreciate any help at hand.
I need to create a list of company info from address book into pages. problem is if I 'insert address book field' say 'company name' twice and do a merge, Pages drag the same name in twice and not the next address merge. but does put it on the next page, no good need at least 5 different address on one page.
    Guy

You are responsible of the spent time.
Pages never claims that it is designed to fill pages with different labels.
It claims that it is able to merge address in documents which is definitely not the same thing.
The Apple's tool dedicated to label printing is AddressBook.
The one dedicated to merge from AddressBook is Pages.
Details available in PDF User Guide page 217
and in the Help's page entitled: "Using Address Book Fields" (I got it searching for "merge").

  • Address Book field names changing for "imported" data

I'm migrating from a thousand year old Palm Pilot that has served me so well to an iPhone. So it's time to get my contacts into OSX Address Book.
I have tried moving the data a couple of ways - exporting vCards and text files from the Palm Desktop software.
I did extensive editing of the text file in MS Excel to get the data into good order.
I have set up a template in the Address Book preferences to create fields that I want/need. Some are generic default field names, some have custom names. eg. I want to see a field called "Bus. Phone" not one called "work". Call me picky.
I get the same basic result no matter if I import the vCard file or a text file - The names of the fields just show up with very generic names in the imported data. I should note that creating a NEW record seems to use the field names that I have specified in the preferences.
Also, when importing the text file, Address Book asks me to assign the field names for certain fields (while it seems smart enough to know what labels to use for other fields all on it's own). However, the Field Names available in the drop down menu ARE NOT the ones that I have set up in the prefs. I seem limited to the generic default field names only.
Can anybody tell me how to get the field names to be what I want them to be for address data that is being imported like this?
Thanks for any suggestions - this has been driving me crazy as it would seem to me to be a pretty basic process. (I mean, the Address Book has this import functionality and custom field name functionality built in so it should work right?!)
    Allen

No sooner do I ask than I notice that other people have asked the same question. In one of the reply's I saw mention of a product called "Abee".
I tracked it down and it did the job for me! Custom Field names live on!

  • Why is there missing info in the windows address book fields after syncing iphone 4 contacts?

I am reaching the end of my rope trying to deal with syncing/backing up contacts and other "non copyright protected" content from my iphone 4 and my desktop (and preferably my laptop as well).  I've spent literally days trying to solve this problem with ultimately no solution.  So, cutting through my MULTIPLE issues and focusing on one primary I need help backing up my contacts from my iphone 4 to ANY computer.  Here is what I am working with:
A relatively ancient (5yrs) Window XP desktop with virtually no contacts in Windows Address Book and with only the native Outlook Express on it.
An iphone 4 ios 4.3.1 that was initially and is still setup/synced with the above XP box (minus checking the sync contacts box).
An iphone 4 contact list that is primarily populated by about 200 contacts transfered from an old ATT SIM from the previous ancient phone.
A new Windows 7 laptop that I would love, love, love to use in conjuction with the XP for syncing/backing up not protected, personal data and iphone purchases.
So, with that in mind I have been syncing my phone with the XP w. the "manual manage music..." box checked and all other syncing options other than apps unchecked.  I wanted to backup by contacts for emergency recovery and to allow sycncing for the increasing business contacts.  Should be easy right?  Not so much.  I tried clicking the "sync contacts w/ windows address book" option and then synced.  I go to WAB and the contact list is there.  However, if I look w/in each contact the fields are not filled in.  If it was a contact that had name, number, address on my phone the WAB version has the name listing but nothing in the number/addy fields.  Now, this is true w/ virtually every contact and most were from that SIM transfer.  HOWEVER, contacts that I added ON the iphone (ie manually w/ the phone) DO have complete information.
So, what do I do to make an actual, complete backup of all the contacts on my iphone w/o having to manually reinput all of the real information??  I'm frankly terrified that in trying multiple solutions I will lose all my phone contacts which at this point in my life would be absolutely devistating (ie I would probably lose my job).  If it is a matter of newer hard/software I would gladly sync to the new Win 7 laptop instead but there I run into the other aggrivation of apple making it so bloody difficult to use one ios device with more than one personal computer.  I'm dumbfounded and frustrated on soooooo many levels and would send countless good vibes to anyone who can help!   Advice?  Solutions?  I'd promise my first born but who wants that these days...?  Help, please! ;-)
BTW, sorry for the long wind but I'll add on my "optimal solution" if anyone is feeling especially helpful and has an answer:
I'd like to be able to plug my iphone into both my XP desktop and my Win 7 laptop and sync/backup to both freely (that is after all the real intent of syncing, non?)  I don't care about music, videos, or other protected content.  I manage that manually and frankly, I can do without having on the iphone as long as I can accomplish being able to sync/backup/restore all the iphone stuff like apps, settings, personal info, and contacts to both the desktop and the laptop.  The purpose is that I need to be able to use and recover everything (on the road or at home) if either my laptop or my iphone dies/disappears.  But, understanding impermanence as it relates to portable devices, I want a solid backup of everything at home waiting on my desktop.  Is that really too much to ask apple???

Seriously folks?  I know it was long but I added all info to negate a need for endless back/forth clarifications.  No answers???
FYI, i tried syncing contacts to google/gmail and it was a total clusterF as well.  No gmail contacts, synced iphone, gmail contacts populated w/ all info but w/lots of repeat entries.  Used seek and merge repeats in gmail and then resync but no such luck.  Lots of iterations and nothing but fails.  Seems everytime the phone and the gmail lists are "as desired" a new sync puts a ton of repeats back into gmail or onto phone.  Still perplexed and still needing help....
    pretty please....

  • New address book fields don't appear when importing CSV file

I've added two new fields to the Address Book template. The new fields appear when manually entering data for a new Card, but not when importing a CSV file. There's a drop down menu of field names for the import process but it does not include the new fields. Is there a way to modify this menu?

I would suggest looking at the Basic Troubleshooting steps at the following link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
Specifically, for your Question #1 above, I would suggest the First Aid procedure and running the 'Repair Database' option listed in the linked page.
Note - I strongly suggest not running the 'Rebuild Database' option unless all other troubleshooting steps have been exhausted. This is also a caution given by Apple.
For your Question #2, if the repair database does not fix that one, then lower on the linked page you will find the procedure for 'Delete the user preferences' which has sorted the issue for me in the past. FWIW, I suspect that the OS X indexing (possibly for Spotlight) may have something to do with this issue.
As I think you suspect, you should be able to see the photos specific to each Project when you select it one in the library inspector (whether in the folder or not).
Note - the behavior of seeing all photos from all projects in a folder is correct.

  • Address Book field - skype?

    hello everyone,
i don't know if anyone can help me, but i was trying to add the skype username of some of my friends in address book, is there really no field for skype? thank you.
    nicolas

And, it may be that Skype or other VoIP identifiers
are better placed in the telephone number field, than
    the IM identifier field.
Lets not cunfuse things here - Skype and other VoIP identifiers are different things. Let's be clear phone numbers and IM IDs are different.
Phone numbers should go in the com.apple.contacts.Phone_Number field and nothing else but. And IM IDs should go in com.apple.contacts.IM field and nothing else but.
What should then happen is for there to be the following Skype actions in the drop down menus associated with:
    com.apple.contacts.Phone_Number:
    Dial with Skype
    Send SMS with Skype
    - These two actions above already exist.
    com.apple.contacts.IM
    Text Chat with Skype
    Audio Call with Skype
    Video Call with Skype
    - These three actions would be need when you could identify an IM ID as Skype. Hopefully, when there is an "accommodation for additional identifiers".
Can any Leopard devs confirm that com.apple.Contacts is being updated?
    Cheers Daniel

  • Changing address book field name with automator

can anyone advise how to change a field in multiple contacts using automator, ie i need to change either the 'work mobile', or 'home mobile' field to the simple 'mobile' so as to fix the phone book error i now have on my sony p900 since the recent 10.4.6 update rebuilt the phone version of my addressbook,
the mobile now will not recognise the changed fields as mobile phones but as land lines, making the sending of sms etc difficult.
As i have over 400 contacts this is a pain indeed....
any genius scripters out there who can both help and explain?
    thanks

    Hi,
According to your description, the name of a address list container is changed through Exchange management tool. However, Outlook clients still show the old name.
In this case, I recommend you recreate a new profile to check the result. I test it and the address list updates in Outlook client only after I recreate the profile.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Exchange Sync Problem: Address Book fields are strange

    Hi All,
I started to use Mail and Address Box to sync to my company Exchange 2007 since I upgraded to SL. Everything worked fine except that the inbox of the mail can never show up. Anyway, I assumed everything else work just fine.
However, when I decided not to sync with Exchange anymore and use other services to sync my macbook and iphone, I discovered that there is a big bug in the exchange sync mechanism. All the details of the contact actually sync into arbitrary field names. They look similar and that's why I though it works just fine.
Now the fields look like this in my iphone and mobile me _$!<EX-BusinessPhone>!$_
    Can anyone help?

I have a similar question -- seems all the fields that iPhone does utilize are transferred -- but it is limited and apparently not customizable. For example .. if someone has an "other" email address it doesn't show up ... only work and home seem to show up.... would really like to be able to customize which fields I want to carry with me

  • Address book field sort question

Does anyone know how I can set upp my City field so I can sort by city? When I call customers for appointments I would like to sort by city so I can group all my calls together. Presently I group it in with Last name which does not work well if I want to do a mailing.
Note to Palm; Why wouldn't Palm have set City field seperately so you can sort by city?

McAfee will warn you about anything sometimes lol. I've downloaded about 10 different programs and no viruses yet, so you shouldn't need worry. There should be some sort of advanced search tool on that site. You can also try using google. I do apologize the device does not come with that search method natively. I hope you find what you are looking for though through add ons.

  • How to add an address book field into a Numbers spreadsheet? more

    It is annoying.
One more time a thread archived to be searched in the database contains an odd response.
    In: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1290285&tstart=0
    the last message states:
There is no answer to this problem other than this feature is not available (yet) for Numbers.
    Which is perfectly wrong.
Reading the page 178 of the PDF Users guide, everybody may check that we may easily build this kind of table:

My long practice of Apple make me think that this guess doesn't match the reality.
In fact I know the process.

  • Address book sync problem

I had uploaded my IMAC address book to my new itouch.  But because of some problems in the address book (lots of quotes around # and email), I had to fix that (using Excel's trim and clean functions.  On the IMAC, I deleted all the contacts in the address book and then uploaded the contacts from the cleaned and trimmed address book fields.  It loaded fine.
But when I tried a sync, it actually goes to what appears another account (my wife's) and loads that.  I can't seem to get to to sync to my new address book.  How do I force a sync?
    John

On October 18, 2007—with less than 24 hours notice for most users—Apple announced that .Mac synchronization services would change substantially to accommodate Panther users. Here is the text of that notice, which many users apparently did not receive:
    "Dear .Mac member:
Due to improvements being made to .Mac Sync on October 19, 2007, please note the following changes.
Mac OS X version 10.4 Tiger users:
To ensure uninterrupted service, you must be using Mac OS X version 10.4.10. To check which version you’re running, select About This Mac in the Apple menu. If you are not running version 10.4.10, click the Software Update button and install the update to 10.4.10.
Mac OS X version 10.3 Panther users:
To accommodate new enhancements, .Mac Sync will no longer support syncing of calendars between a Panther-based Mac and a Mac running Tiger or Leopard. Syncing calendars between Mac computers running Panther is unaffected.
These changes will help enable .Mac Sync to do more than ever. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for being a .Mac member.
That was ten days ago, and .Mac synchronization services are still undergoing 'maintenance.' There is not announced date by which stable, familiar service will be restored.
You can check the main page of .Mac to determine when the amber LED labeled Sync returns to green, or survey the this forum for information about service restoration. You'll see a previously updated status note at the top of the forum change when service is restored.

  • LDAP support limited. How to configure Address Book / Directory Access?

I complained to a sysadmin that my LDAP searches were returning very limited information (just surname and e-mail). He replied,
"...[Address Book] can't be configured to query specific attributes, it can't be configured to show specific attributes except for the small set they have elected to permit, ... it doesn't even show cn/commonName which is a compulsory field in the inetOrgPerson schema or ou/organizationalUnitName which is the standard way of distinguishing components of an organization..."
Directory Access seems to offer facilities for requesting specific attributes. I tried mapping them to Address Book fields, but with no improvement in the search results. Any tips?

Here is some info I found on manually configuring and mapping schemas.
    Configuring LDAP Searches and Mappings
Using Directory Access, you can edit the mappings, search bases, and search scopes that specify how Mac OS X finds specific data items in an LDAP directory. You can edit these settings separately for each LDAP directory configuration listed in Directory Access. Each LDAP directory configuration specifies how Mac OS X accesses data in an LDAPv3 or LDAPv2 directory.
You can edit the mapping of each Mac OS X record type to one or more LDAP object classes.
For each record type, you can also edit the mapping of Mac OS X data types, or attributes, to LDAP attributes.
You can edit the LDAP search base and search scope that determine where Mac OS X looks for a particular Mac OS X record type in an LDAP directory.
IMPORTANT: When mapping Mac OS X user attributes to a read/write LDAP directory domain (an LDAP domain that is not read-only), the LDAP attribute mapped to RealName must not be the same as the first attribute in a list of LDAP attributes mapped to RecordName. For example, the cn attribute must not be the first attribute mapped to RecordName if cn is also mapped to RealName.
For detailed specifications of Mac OS X record types and attributes, refer to "Mac OS X Server Open Directory Administration for Version 10.4 or Later" (available at www.apple.com/server/documentation/).
    In Directory Access, click Services.
If the lock icon is locked, click it and type the name and password of an administrator.
Select LDAPv3 in the list of services, then click Configure.
If the list of server configurations is hidden, click Show Options.
Select a server configuration in the list, then click Edit.
    Click Search & Mappings.
Select the mappings that you want to use as a starting point, if any.
Click the "Access this LDAPv3 server using" pop-up menu and choose a mapping template to use its mappings as a starting point or choose Custom to begin with no predefined mappings.
Add record types and change their search bases as needed.
To add record types, click the Add button below the Record Types and Attributes list. In the sheet that appears, select Record Types, select one or more record types from the list, and then click OK.
To change the search base and search scope of a record type, select it in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then edit the "Search base" field. Select "all subtrees" to set the search scope to include the entire LDAP directory's hierarchy from the search base down. Select "first level only" to set the search scope to include only the search base and one level below it in the LDAP directory's hierarchy.
To remove a record type, select it in the Record Types and Attributes List and click Delete.
To add a mapping for a record type, select the record type in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the Add button below "Map to __ items in list" and enter the name of an object class from the LDAP directory. To add another LDAP object class, you can press Return and enter the name of the object class. Specify whether to use all or any of the listed LDAP object classes by using the pop-up menu above the list.
To change a mapping for a record type, select the record type in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then double-click the LDAP object class that you want to change in the "Map to __ items in list" and edit it. Specify whether to use all or any of the listed LDAP object classes by using the pop-up menu above the list.
To remove a mapping for a record type, select the record type in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the LDAP object class that you want to remove from the "Map to __ items in list" and click the Delete button below "Map to __ items in list."
Add attributes and change their mappings as needed.
To add attributes to a record type, select the record type in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the Add button below the Record Types and Attributes list. In the sheet that appears, select Attribute Types, select one or more attribute types, and then click OK.
To add a mapping for an attribute, select the attribute in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the Add button below "Map to __ items in list" and enter the name of an attribute from the LDAP directory. To add another LDAP attribute, you can press Return and enter the name of the attribute.
To change a mapping for an attribute, select the attribute in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then double-click the item that you want to change in the "Map to __ items in list" and edit the item name.
To remove a mapping for an attribute, select the attribute in the Record Types and Attributes List. Then click the item that you want to remove from the "Map to __ items in list" and click the Delete button below "Map to __ items in list."
To change the order of attributes displayed in the list on the right, drag the attributes up or down in the list.
Click Save Template if you want to save your mappings as a template.
Templates saved in the default location are listed in pop-up menus of LDAP mapping templates the next time the current user opens Directory Access. The default location for saved templates is in the current user's home folder at this path:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Directory Access/LDAPv3/Templates
Click Write to Server if you want to store the mappings in the LDAP directory so that it can supply them automatically to its clients.
You must enter a search base to store the mappings, a distinguished name of an administrator (for example, uid=diradmin,cn=users,dc=ods,dc=example,dc=com), and a password. If you are writing mappings to an Open Directory LDAP server, the correct search base is "cn=config, suffix" (where suffix is the server's search base suffix, such as "dc=ods,dc=example,dc=com").
The LDAP directory supplies its mappings to Mac OS X clients whose custom search policy includes a connection that's configured to get mappings from the LDAP server. The LDAP directory also supplies its mappings to all Mac OS X clients that have an automatic search policy. For instructions, see Configuring Access to an LDAP Directory and Setting Up Search Policies.
