Addresses obliterated on Motorola RAZR V3 and iSync fails to restore

I have maintained my phone's address book using a "Group" within Address Book specifically designed for the purpose (i.e., a manageable subset of the many contacts I store on my computer). After updating to MobileMe, the option to select just this Group for syncing has disappeared -- the only choice I see is "All Contacts." So, silly me, I went forward with a sync attempt under these terms. But the process seemed to hang and I ended up canceling the synchronization (in iSync). But when I checked my phone, all my previous contact info was gone (on both SIM and phone memory). So, I tried to run the sync again. It runs very quickly and reports no errors -- but also fails to load any contact info onto the RAZR. So I'm stuck with a cell with no phonebook...
Help!!!

by backing up my Address book, deleting the folder in Library/Preferences and then re-importing the Address book, I was able to see my Groups in iSync again, and re-sync to my RAZR successfully. Yay!!

  • Very disappointed with Motorola Razr M AND VZW Run Around

I got the Motorola Razr M last December.  I picked the Motorola M because it was a nice compact size without compromising screen size and Motorolas are very durable phone....or so I thought.  I have had nothing but problems with this model phone.  I am on my 6th replacement.   I have had software problems and hardware problems.  Two "certified" replacement phones have had hardware defects upon being sent out to me.  The rest have had numerous software problems.  Verizon has been good about sending out replacement phones since I was under my 1 year manufacturers warranty..until this week when I asked if i could get a different phone sent out since this models seems to have so many problems.  I got a major run around and no follow up by a "management supervisor" who told me she would work directly with me to resolve the situation...she even gave me her direct number but ended up not being her number when I tried to call back.  I am not pleased with the way VZW has decided to handle this as I have been a loyal customer for 11 years.  I do blame the reps...I know they are doing their jobs with the boundaries that are set for them.  I just want a phone to work for the remainder of my contract with VZW.  I even tried to contact Motorola and they said since I bought the phone through VZW I had to work with VZW for replacements.  SO VERY FRUSTRATING!

You have actually helped me with a decision that has been driving me crazy for the past week.  I do not need nor do I want all or most of the above you mentioned.  Heck I hardly use half of that stuff on my home computer or I-pad.  I will definately stay with my basic phones that I can get calls, texts and take pictures.   Thanks again.

  • Motorola SLVR L7 and iSync - or sync to an internet server...

Just bought it yesterday, surprised that it is not supported by iSync. I've got the latest OS X version, iSync version. Worked great with my RAZR, what is the timing for SLVR? How long do I have to keep the phone in the box before it is useful to me?
Alternatively, the phone does have sync capabilities to an internet server. If I have my contacts and calendar synced here at .mac, is there a way to access that server? Settings asked for in the phone are:
    Name:
    URL:
    User Name:
    Password:
    Data paths -
    Address Book:
    Datebook:
I obviously know my user name and password; what are the other things to fill in for my .mac account?

Did a software update, which included a 100MB update to OS X. Re-paired my SLVR with my laptop, and in doing so, it enabled iSync. So now it works. Go figure.
Still would like an answer about syncing over the internet, though, if possible.

  • My iphone will not load or turn on.  It stays on the white apple screen and says failed to restore, when I get to actually try to restore it.

What should I do to try and restore this phone???

    Reset the PRAM
Reinstall the operating system from the dvd (you will not loose your data)

  • My 2nd Gen iPod touch would not finish backing up to update to 4.2 firmware. So I tried to restore it, and it failed to restore. It shows the "Connect to iTunes" logo and iTunes will not recognize it. How can I get iTunes to recognize it?

    Please help.

Think I got it figured out... I missed the whole "sync apps" when my iPod was connected to my computer (in iTunes)

  • Importing Phonebook from Motorola Razr

I have a Motorola Razr and want to import my entire phonebook into Address Book. I have bluetooth and isync setup but can't seem to get the numbers off the phone into Address Book. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I've been doing a little bit of searching and found this site:
    http://mac.themotoguide.com/getconnected.php
If you use a Verizon Razr, it's a very complicated process in which you have to reflash your phone to a different firmware, and mod it to be able to use the verizon network. This is because Verizon altered the firmware on the razr so that you can't connect it to a computer (because they want you to BUY their ringtones, etc.) Any company that would do something like that won't get my business. I use Cingular, and the Cingular razrs should be able to connect fairly easy using the above link's instructions.
EDIT: I just found some additional info. Apparantly you can sync your phone with Apple iSync (built into Tiger.)

  • MOTORAZR Red and iSync

I just purchased the new Motorola RAZR V3m for use on Sprint. It is the (Product) RED edition. When I tried to use iSync it said it was not a supported device. Is there any way to sync my contacts and/or calendar with my new phone through iSync or otherwise? Thanks!

    Hi Mate,
You don't say whether you are trying this via Bluetooth or the USB cable. Bluetooth is pretty hopeless with my Motorola and is limited to photo and video file exchange.
If you conect via USB, however, then it's a different story. I have a Motorola RAZR V3i and I can sync contacts and calendar with no problem; however, I can only do this via USB cable. Once the phone appears on the desktop, dragging and dropping files is also a breeze.
I can't fully remeber how to do this, but my instinct tells me that I hooked up the phone via USB (the cable was included with the phone, I think), then used Find Device in iSync. Once the little icon appeared next to the .Mac icon, clicking on the phone icon gives you a list of preferences. From there it's a matter of hitting sync, let the phone switch to modem mode and then watch everything transfer over. I can't say that I have ever been let down this way either.
Hint: the cable doesn't get enough power from the USB port on your keyboard, so mine is a permanent attachment to one of the USB ports on my Cinema Display. This recharges the battery too.
    Hope this helps

  • Nokia Mural (6750) and isync

I've been looking and can't find: Is it possible to sync Ical with my Nokia 6750? I know I"ll have to get a compatible usb cable, but before I buy that, can it be done? Thanks.
    Judy

After pairing your Nokia via BlueTooth... start iSync... go to Devices > Add Device while iSync is the active (front most app). You probably already know this...
One anomaly that I have noticed (even with my last Motorola cell phone and iSync) is that sometimes phone numbers, events, etc. will not be deleted when synced again (maybe just me).
If this happens... or if iSync says that your memory is full and that it can not add all of your events... then (after deselecting some of your calendar boxes in iCal, or creating a smaller group phone list in Address Book) I have found that (while iSync is front most app) if you go to the menu bar and select Devices > Reset All Devices... iSync will _erase/reformat_ your Nokia and then only add the newly selected items. And you can continue to trial/error this until you reduce the number of phone numbers and calendar events to fit on the memory card in your Nokia.
    Hope this helps.

  • Bluetooth not recognizing Motorola RAZR V3!!!  What should I do????

I have a Motorola RAZR V3 and my Intel Mac Mini won't recognize it!! It recognized it once and now it won't detect it. When I choose the send file option it shows my phone, but when I click send, it says "Unable to validate device". The bluetooth symbol on my RAZR stays on until I choose the "Send File" or "Set up Bluetooth Device" option, and then it goes off. I tried updating the firmware to version 1.2, but the updater said that there wasn't a Bluetooth module installed, when there is default with the computer. My computer's bluetooth address is 00-16-cb-0c-fb-38, and my computer's bluetooth firmware version is 3.1965 (3.1965). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • ISync and Motorola RAZR

I have one of the original RAZR's and a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11. I've been using Motorola Phone Tools on a PC and syncing with Outlook without issue. When I bought my Mac, I wanted to sync with it instead. Tried exporting contacts from Outlook and importing in Address Book. No dice. Created entries from scratch. I deleted all contacts off my phone and used iSync. Many entries not copied to phone, and MANY entries in Address Book lose their numbers and addresses. I re-sync with Phone Tools to get original contacts back on my phone, and then match up entries from Address Book and phone manually. Did this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1320120&tstart=0 <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1320120&tstart=0>
Then run iSync again, and I get duplicate entries on both the phone and in Address Book. For a company that wants people to switch from PC's to Macs, this doesn't work very well.

The Verizon Wireless-supplied Motorola RAZR V3c is explicitly supported only by the latest release of iSync—version 2.2—which is a part of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update. Prior to this release it was not, but could be used with the addition of third-party plug-ins.
However, there are three significant limitations inherent in this handset:
    1. Calendar synchronization is not supported. This is a Verizon issue and may be resolved in future firmware updates from Verizon.
    2. Verizon has reverted to its long-standing practice of disabling the Bluetooth OBEX profile, so that files cannot be exchanged between your handset and your Macintosh. They do this to preserve their ongoing revenue stream from pay-to-transfer options like Get it Now. Initially, this handset inexplicably did not have the OBEX profile disabled, but that 'oversight' has been 'corrected' in subsequent releases.
    3. The V3c is a V CAST device, and as such, cannot be used as a CDMA wireless modem to connect to the internet. Many Verizon-supplied mobile handsets and smartphones do include a DUN [Dial Up Networking] profile, but V CAST devices do not. I mention this because the lack of DUN support may be a 'deal breaker' for Verizon subscribers like you.

  • Just received this re motorola and isync - not good news

-- Technical status of connections between newer Motorola phones and
    iSync --
After evaluating lots of information from users and many tests, the
situation with the new generation of Motorola cellular phones (RAZR,
SLVR, PEBL, others) regarding iSync connection looks to us as follows:
There exist at least three generations of firmware in these phones:
    1. Firmware generation (beginning in RAZR V3c) works at least somehow
with iSync. Address book can be synchronized, sometimes problems with
    calendar data occur.
    2. Firmware generation (e.g. RAZR V3i, V3x, SLVR, PEBL)
With this phones you have no functioning Bluetooth communication to a
Macintosh at all. You can "pair" the Mac and the phone (i.e. exchange
the confirmation codes) but after that registering of services between
them fails. After setting up the Motorola phone with the Bluetooth
Assistant you will get the message "no services available". Because of
that you can neither use iSync to exchange data with these phones via
Bluetooth nor any other Bluetooth service (e.g. Send File, or serial
port communication). This general Bluetooth communication between a
Windows PC and the Motorola phones is working. These phones also don't
react on approaches of iSync to communicate via USB.
    3. Firmware generation (e.g. RAZR V3x, V3i, SLVR, PEBL, V557)
In this generation the general Bluetooth communication is working again,
but the data format for strings has been changed by Motorola. In the old
days a name like "Adam" was transfered as an ASCII string. Now they are
hexadecimal encoded, in this example the phone now sends the Hex-Codes
for it: "4164616d". The Interpretation of this data is hard coded inside
the iSync application and by our knowledge can't be modified by a
plugin. Appearently iSync is not able to switch to this other encoding
    format automatically.
Because of this current technical situation we don't see any possibility
to implement a plugin solution for these phone models that would satisfy
    the Motorola customers.

Issuing the 6xxx series of boxes to a new customer is a poor practise. Infact, no one should be receiving the 6xxx boxes at all. To issue one for new service knowing there is likely to be an unsatisfactory experience, and then tell the customer they need to pay an additional $40 for a new box seems sleazy. Time to retire the 6xxx boxes for good.

  • L2 and iSync (address book)

    Hey,
I have my motorola L2 up and running with iSync just fine (ie. transfers contacts and calender etc.)
However, when I transfer new contacts from my computer to the L2, the contact's picture in my macbook's address book does not make the transfer to the phone.
Is there someway to fix this?

Nope, not a Motorola V3… there's no way in héll either.

  • Address Book pairing with Motorola Razr

    Hello,
I'm trying to get Address Book to work with the Razr over bluetooth. iSync seems to work just fine. However, when I try to pair the phone from Address Book, it doesn't do anything. Is there any way to get this to work? I've tried searching, but I haven't found any solution for the razr. I've found some solutions for other phones that involve modifying the ABDeviceCommandSets.plist, but I don't know if this applies to the razr or what to enter as the razr's ABDeviceModelStrings.
This is a Cingular Razr by the way. As far as I know, it isn't crippled by Cingular like the Verizon phones.
    Thanks
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions
It appears that the list of devices that work with iSync does not match the list that work with AddressBook (if fact I can't find a list for AddressBook) however I know that AB hasn't been updated in this respect for some time. Try using this application as an alternative: BluePhoneElite (link).

  • File transfer between IMAC and Motorola RAZR V3c

I recently replaced my defective Verizon RAZR phone with a new RAZR v3c. Previously, I was able to exchange music, video and pic files readily by dragging and dropping via bluetooth. The new phone pairs up w/ bluetooth but an error message appears stating the device "does not have the necessary services". Is there a way to transfer these files even w/o bluetooth if necessary? I've been reading for hours and haven't found a solution. Please HELP!! Thanks

Bad news... Verizon disabled that "feature" of your phone. I guess they did it to try to force subscribers to buy more ringtones and use more data transfers. It might depend on the exact firmware version. There's some info on it here:
    http://blog.wired.com/music/2006/07/verizonrazrca.html
And a (somewhat daunting) wiki tutorial on how to replace the Verizon $oftware with the original phone software from Alltel:
    http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/MotorolaV3c_Tutorial:_Flashing_to_Alltel_UserInterface
Oh wait, just found this... apparently you can take it to a Verizon store and have them update the firmware:
