Adjusting Audio in Slideshow

I'm trying to adjust the video in an Apple-Themed slideshow, and cannot seem to find a way to maintain the main audio track volume and reduce the inserted video down to zero volume. I can see how it's done in a custom slideshow, but can't find how to do it when using one of Apple's themes. Using Aperture 3.
Can anyone assist?
Thanks
Darryn

For the record, I just rendered from AE as a WAV which worked, but it was as loud as before I changed the waveform there, too. HELP!

You should be abe to output the project to PRE and then use the sound mixer to balance background track and narration.

  • A way to adjust audio when capturing video?

I transfered some video/audio and am having distortion in some audio.
The original audio does not peak and when I captured it in Premiere CS6, it is not peaking out, but when I play back, I can hear occasional distortion. The video is up at:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNNgJiZMrRA
Does this sound like it is overmodulating or is something else happening?
Is there a way to adjust audio when capturing audio or is it a straight feed? Wondering if I can lower the audio input to try to fix.
thanks in advance for your help,
    Charlie

How are you capturing the content? Because in my experince premiere doesn't have a way to adjust the audio levels of what your capturing. However if you post how you are capturing the footage in more detail I might be able to help. Please tell me exactly how you have everything hooked up.
For example if you have the camera hooked straight to the computer or if you're using a capture card if so what kind. Some capture cards have audio gain settings which might be causing the issue. Also some decks and cameras have audio playback volume settings which can also cause audio to be sent to premiere louder than what it started as. So if you give more detail I may be able to offer some sort of help.
One thing you might try though to remove that distortion is too add a lowpass filter to the audio, and start off by setting the low pass filter to like 3000 and just adjust by 500 up or down from there until the distortion goes away. I've had to do this in the past with audio that's distorted before. (Although I haven't experinced the specific issue you're experincing before.) Although it will make the persons voice sound  muffled it will take most of the distortion out. Which getting rid  of distortion at the cost of making it sound somewhat muffled is a decent trade off if worse comes to worse and you can't get the issue figured out.

  • How do I adjust audio levels at various points on timeline??

How do I make volume level adjustments in a single clip on the FCP-X timeline?  I have a music bed and need to adjust audio levels at various points in the song.  In past Final Cut programs.  This should be very easy but I can't find how to do it in Final Cut Pro-X.  I don't want to adjust the entire clip.
Also, I recorded voice on channel 2 and shot gun on channel 1.  I only want the voice (channel 2).  How can I select a individual channel once I have edited the piece.  I know I can re-import the video and designate which channel to bring in but I don't want to have to do that.
    Thanks!!

Select a range and lower the level, or hold the Option key to click on the level line to add a keyframe.

    Have any idea?

    Hi Dennis,
I just had a go and can reproduce the problem straight away too.
Created a new project then a new XDCAM EX 1080p25 sequence. Imported a short Sony PMW-350 clip. Dragging it straight to the timeline and then setting audio gain is OK (Source channel mapping preferences set to mono).
However, if I Modify - Audio Channels and then set track format as stereo or mono as stereo and then drag the clip to the timeline and right click - gain, Premiere crashes about 1/2 to 1 second after the audio gain dialogue box appears. Error log below if it's useful.

  • Idvd fit audio to slideshow

When I import or create a slideshow with music in Idvd, I choose the fit audio to slideshow option. The timing of the specific slides with the music has been choreographed, especially the conclusion of both photos and music at the end.As an Iphoto slideshow,a Quicktime movie, etc...the product is perfect. However, once in idvd the sldies will continue past the conclusion of the music.Even deleting thumbnails does not solve the issue. This wasn't an issue until Leopard upgrade.Any thoughts?

I had a simialr issue today as well which you may wish to read about as to how I resolved (or worked around) this issue.

  • Adjust audio levels between keyframes

    Hello,
What is the shortcut to adjust audio levels between keyframes (in sequence)? I know the shortcut CTRL ] [ , but this shortcut adjust audio level for entire audio.
I also know I can drag up and down the levels between keyframes using mouse. But some months ago I saw a tip ( from Steve martin) showing
how to adjust audio levels between keyframes using a shortcut..and better,in RT. but I forgot what is the shortcut.
    thx

there is no shortcut command for this in FCP, you need to use the mouse to drag the audio level up or down
perhaps its another application your thinking of?

  • Window for adjusting audio doesn't appear when toggled in imovie '08

I'm trying to adjust audio for some video clips, but the usual window that pops up to allow me to do this is not coming up anymore.

I have the same problem (the popup audio adjustment window never appears). It doesn't matter what project I work on, it never pops up, although the audio icon remains depressed like it is up somewhere.
I unplugged the 2nd monitor and rebooted, but it didn't fix it for me.
Likewise, I deleted the plist file, but I still can't get the panel to pop up. It works on the other Macs in the house, but not on my MacBook Pro 17.
This is frustrating. I've been hours trying to solve this problem and I'm past a deadline, and I can't continue without this. Argh!

  • My new MacBook will not play TV shows, or connect audio with slideshows

I just bought a black 2 gigHZ MacBook and when starting it up used a firewire to transfer everything from my Intel iMac, as prompted. Seemed to work fine, except: the TV shows in iTunes will not play in Front Row on my MacBook. And in iTunes they will play as video only: no sound.
Also, I tried to make a slideshow in iPhoto, but I cannot attach a soundtrack from my iTunes plibrary: again, no audio, though the slides play.
Odd thing is: I can play commercial DVDs in Front Row. No problem. Likewise with iTunes music library. The ptoblem seems limited to TV shows I have downloaded from iTunes music store, and to the slide show/no audio issues.

    hello,
did you try to authorize you Macbook with your itunes login and password ??
this must be done manually and is not transferred automatically with other datas as you can authorize up to 5 computers !
if you didn't already do this, give it a try !

  • How can I fit audio to slideshow?

Can someone help me? This issue has been keeping me up the last few nights. I originally created a slideshow in iDVD for my son's baseball team and handed everyone DVDS as a memoir. Well, there was an issue with the music cutting out for a brief second but would continue playing. That was fine until after playing it 3 times the DVD does not work at all on people's DVD players. I read in one of the discussions that this happens after the 99th image so the solution would be to bring it into iMovie which I did. I brought in 194 photos and I have 2 songs. The problem is getting the audio to fit the length of the slideshow! It fit fine from beginning to end in iDVD. The music is only good for 3/4 of the images. I have tried extending the edge of the music bar, but it won't let me lengthen it. It will only make it shorter. Please help, I would like to get these poor kids working DVDs of their last baseball season?

So the duration of your more photos exceeds your music? And you don't want to include another song?
If you don't currently have any transtions, you could add these between each of your photos to shorten the total slide show. This will make for a smoother looking slide show (if you like the effect). A transition like Cross Disolve will shorten the duration of photos as each transition causes the photos to overlap by the amount of the transition. For example if you add a one second Cross Disolve transition to 200 photos (of say, photos with 5 seconds duration each), you would shorten the total duration of your slide show by approximately 400 seconds (if I recall correctly: 1 second transition x two photos x 200 total photos - minus one transition each for the first and last photo).
Please note, the duration of the photo has to longer than the than the duration of the transitions. E.g., if you have photos of five seconds duration and then add the 1 second transition between each photo, this cuts a second off by overlapping each end of each photo and the resulting photo ends up being three seconds in duration. Test it on a limited number of photos to see if you like it and what he impact on duration is.
I then add or delete photos as necessary and/or edit the song. Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Crashes upon adjusting Audio Gain and when exporting

First a bit about the systems in question
I have four identical edit bays. Each has a Dual Core 2.5 Ghz Pentium processor, 3.0 gbs of ram, a single sata drive split into two partitions (system 30 gb and video 470 gb). I am running up to date PPro 5.0.2, freshly installed on virgin drives. I was running Avsynth and FFdshow as a way to be able to import my old MJPEG footage, but thanks to Colin Brougham, I have that particular demon slain (and I am removing those two programs).I have two of the bays with the most up to date 64 bit manufacturer video and audio drivers, and two bays with Windows 7 automatically installed video and audio drivers. The problem is the same in all four bays.
We dump in one of two ways: either a direct DV dump via firewire or downloading .MXF files from our Panasonic P2 cameras via USB (can't seem to get the firewire PC dump to work correctly). The project settings I am using are DV-NTSC - Standard 48 Khz, with a slight change of requiring upper fields first (we're using a Maxx500 playout server, and it requires upper fields first). We have been experiencing intermittent crashes for a week and a half, but in the last few days they have picked up (no new updates applied, so its not that). I have two culprits:
One is an error code that thanks to this thread I know is related to the audio gain. My problem is that I have done everything I can think of and still no luck. It's been crashing with such regularity that my reporters are saving every few minutes, and I have the auto save set to 5 minutes. Today I had to reinstall this bay because it was crashing every time audio gain was adjusted.
My other problem relates to export. I use the MainConcept MPEG Encoder to output mpegs for the playout server, and about every fourth or fifth time the program will crash on export. Its not a pain to recover from, since at that point the reporters have saved and merely have to reopen and reset up the export, but it is happening far to regularly. Event Viewer references windows/system32/ntdll.dll as the faulting module. Again, I am having this error on two different bays, one with manufacturer drivers and one with Windows 7 installed drivers.
I know that despite my efforts I've probably not given enough info, so let me know what you need.

...downloading .MXF files from our Panasonic P2 cameras via USB (can't seem to get the firewire PC dump to work correctly).
That's correct. Avoid FW offloading on a PC; in fact, while it used to be the way to interface a P2 camera with a Mac, it's all USB there now, as well. Stick with USB, and you'll be fine. (I know this wasn't the gist of your thread, but I thought I'd shine a little light on that.)

Today I had to reinstall this bay because it was crashing every time audio gain was adjusted.
This is known/acknowledged/as-yet-unsquashed bug, assuming that you're remapping your MXF audio channels from the two mono channels that are originally produced by the camera to a single stereo channel.  You may be doing this manually, in the bin, or you might have a preference set to do this automatically on import (Edit > Preferences > Audio > Source Channel Mapping; if it's set to Stereo, try setting it to Use File). This bug only seems to rear its head when the mono channels of an MXF clip are remapped to stereo; if they remain as mono, you can use the Audio Gain command successfully.
If, however, your audio channels aren't stereo, post back; there might be something else going on.
My other problem relates to export. I use the MainConcept MPEG Encoder to output mpegs for the playout server, and about every fourth or fifth time the program will crash on export. When you say "MainConcept MPEG Encoder," are you referring to the MPEG2 encoder that is part of Premiere/AME, or are you referring to some sort of add-on encoder?

  • Adjusting audio sync with Macbook Pro to Zepplin Air.

Hi everyone. I have a Bowers and Wilkins Zepplin Air speaker, which uses airplay. I have noticed the speaker has a 2 second delay from when i press play on Itunes to when the audio comes out the speakers. This is no issue at all, however when i watch a video with audio, i.e, Youtube or films because of the 2 second delay the audio and lip sync is way out. If i watch a youtube clip on the youtube app on my Iphone it automatically adjusts to the -2 seconds, so that the sync is correct. Does anyone know how i can adjust this when viewing any kind of videos on my Macbook Pro, when using Safari.
    Hope someone can help?

  • Problem adding audio to slideshow

I created a slideshow in Elements 8 with no problem.  I added several tracks of audio that fit well.  I learned that I needed to have Elements Premier to publish it to a DVD.  I downloaded the trials of Photoshop Elements 10 and Photoshop Elements Premier 10 and created the slide show again.  However I can not get the audio correct.  When I add the first song it takes up the entire slide show.  I add three more songs and they are just added on past the slide show which is 16 minutes long.  When I click to match the slides to the audio it tells me that the show is over 24 hours long.  I have unchecked the option to repeat the sound track until the end and cannot figure out what I need to do.  I know it is something probably simple but I can't seem to figure it out.  The audio files are MP3.  Can anyone tell me how to get the program to accept the song for its correct length?

There are actually a number of ways (at least 4) to create a slideshow in Premiere Elements, and without knowing which of those methods you're using it's hard to comment specifically.
But if you're building your slideshow on the Premiere Elements timeline, first make sure you're in Timeline mode. Then, when you add your audio track, hold down the Ctrl key. This will allow you to place the audio on a parallel track, below the video/slideshow. If you don't hold down the Ctrl key, the audio will be inserted -- which means that it will drop onto the timeline and push all of the video/slideshow to the right -- which is what sounds like is happening to you.
BTW, the trial of the program has a number of limitations, including limitations on its ability to render. In other words, you probably won't be able to output a video or DVD of the slideshow you create in the trial version of the program. Just a word of warning before you put too much time into it.
And I would also recommend you convert that MP3 into a WAV file using a program like Audacity (free). It will save you some headaches in the long run. Also, when you see red lines above the clips on your timeline, press Enter to render the timeline. (When rendered, the red lines will turn green.)
Lots more headache-saving tips like this in my books, if you're interested.

  • Can't adjust audio keyframes for certain sequences?!

I have a Sequence that I used Pluraleyes on (syncs multiple cameras automatically) but to do this, you're reuired to export a FCP .xml, import it in Pluraleyes, run the sync, which it exports a new FCP .xml, which you have to import back into Premiere... but now I've lost the ability to adjust ANY Audio keyframes! The Keyframe switch on the left of the timeline just stay greyed ouy for all my video clips!
I've created new sequences and dropped the same video into those, and it works fine...
Does anyone know why, and how to fix it?
    Thanks all!
    Aza

Nevermind, figured it out... Pluraleyes was somehow splitting the stereo audio into two mono tracks upon import into premiere, and I guess this confused Premiere...
Not sure if this is a Premiere .xml import bug, or a Pluraleyes bug...
