Advanced finder

Is there a way to "make" Finder look like Windows Explorer.  I'm a new MAC user and I'm having trouble moving files around easily.  Any help is appreciated!

Take a look at Switch 101 and Mac 101
I think both of those tutorials were written with Snow Leopard instead of Lion, most of the topics are still relevant and really haven't changed too much that you won't get something out of them.

  • Pages 5 Where is Advanced Find

I got the new Pages 5 yesterday and for the life of me I cannot figure out the Advanced Find & Replace for invisible characters. My heart sank when I ran into this blank wall.
I was able to breathe again when I found I still had an old copy of Pages 4 so I could continue to work. I'm constantly reformatting doccuments, cleaning them up, removing extra spaces, tabs, carriage returns and and it was quite easy in the old Pages
Am I missing something, or is it just plain missing?

While I waited for someone to chime in to tell me the secret of where Advanced Find & Replace got buried or come up with some arcane key combo to invoke it, as I had time, I dug through other threads, MDN, etc. to find other numerous reports like mine, so it appears it is indeed gone.
So many words in my head to describe this: disastrous, inexcusable, ***!
How could any modern word processor be considered a valid tool without this BASIC function.
I picked up on another fly in this ointment of disappointment. It's the iPad GOTCHA that you get no warning for. I saw this in another thread so felt the need to write it up in this reply.
If you upgrade your Pages for iPad in iTunes or accept it on the iPad or iPhone from v1.7.2 to v2.0, the nasty surprise is that the file format is not backwards compatible with Pages 4 for desktop. If you open the file in the new iPad Pages, it updates the file format so locks you out of it on the desktop Pages 4 if you work in the iCloud. I am not EVEN going to experiment with this bit of nastiness to corroborate it. My time and work are too valuable to play Russian Roulette for fun.
I dearly hope that all made a fresh Time Machine backup before all of this began. I navigated to the folder of apps and set the way back machine to a week ago and thankfully, found the old version and was able to downgrade my iPad.
Be very careful when hitting that Update All button in iTunes or you could get yourself in a pickle. I don't know if there's a way to isolate a particular app from the Update All stream.

  • Understanding Advanced Find in Outlook and Exchange Online Mode

    Hi,
we do see a behaviour in Advanced Find where I'm not sure if it is a bug or "by Design". This only happens when online mode of Outlook is used. Please do not advise to use Cached Moded as we are talking about a Remotedesktop-Services environment
and it is not possible to use Cached Mode here.
When we use "Advanced Find" in Outlook to find sent Messages by the name of the sender we are not able to just enter for example the last name of the sender and get results. As soon was we use the button "Sent to" and choose an account
from the GAL or own contacts we will see results. The issue is: Not all messages sent people are in the GAL or personal contacts. So the search is useless at all.
Search with just the last name - no results:
Search with User selected from the GAL (or local contacts) we will get results:
Is this a bug or "by Design"

    Hi Peter,
What's the version of Exchange server you are using?
It seems that the searching hasn't finished from the first screenshot you attached. The
    Stop button is still clickable.
According to my testing in my Outlook 2013 environment, it took a long time to finish the searching when using Online Exchange mode, however, it should work when searching with just the last name. This is a known issue that
    Outlook Online
mode is having a considerable amount of delay when performing an
advanced search, and we haven't found a solid solution for this. Please wait until the searching finishing (the
Stop button become grayed out, just like it in the second screenshot), and then check if it returns any results.
Please let me know the result.

  • Extension fields in Advanced Find Form

    Hi, experts,
I have four solutions in which I added one extension field to a standard BO.
Let's say they are S1,S2,S3 and S4 respectively and all are of the same data type.
I added each of them to the Advanced Find Form of the standard BO's OWL.(From Extensibility Explorer)
The strange thing is when I enter some data in one extension field (just say S1), other extension fields (S2,S3,S4) are also filled with the   same data from S1.The deleting also have the same behavior. And when I delete one extension field(just say S2), the data in other extension fields (S1,S3,S4) are deleted too.
    Why is this happening?
    How can I control that?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Fred.

    Hi, Fernando.
        Thanks.
I am sorry I was not quite clear on my question.
         Here is my Use Case.
         Let's say I have 4 solution, sol1, sol2, sol3, sol4.
I have created an xbo of the same standard BO in each solution.
My plan is to add one extension field namely ext1 (same name, same data type but different labels though)  to that standard XBO all in sol1,sol2,sol3 and sol4.
And I have added each extension field to Advanced Find Form of the standard xbo's OWL in all of the four solutions.
Each extension field is bound to a respective element.  (checked)
I think my problem is I have unfortunately  given the same name to all the extension fields.
        Please confirm.
    Regards,
    Fred.

  • Outlook Contacts Advanced Find

Hey guys, trying to do a search of the "Department" field for the contacts in my GAL in Outlook 2010. Noticed however that I'm only able to search on the first word contained in the Department field for any particular user. If the department field
contains more than one word, I'm not able to search on it. (See screenshot).
For example, the attached screenshot shows a user whose Department is "Investor Services". If I search "Investor" in Outlook Contacts using Advanced Find, this user shows in the results. However if I search for "Services", I get no results. Exchange
server is 2007. Also getting the same results with a subsidiary company of ours who just moved to Office 365 (searching on the Department field only works for the first word in the field).
Tried posting the question in Exchange forums, since it seems like an issue with Exchange Search Indexing not indexing the entire contents of the field. (See
here). It was suggested I try the Outlook forum instead.
Anyone else have this problem? Is this by design, and if so, is there some kind of work-around other than downloading the GAL to my local contacts?
    Shaun

    Hi Shaun,
Per my test and research, this is by design.
    Thanks,
    Evan

  • Advanced find - Case modified older than 4 hours

    Hi there,
    For CRM 2011 on premise
I'd like to have an advanced find date option that says "Older that x hours" as i'd like to find cases that have not been modified for 4 hours.  (there already is an older than x months option).
Or if there was a way to add a NOT function to a clause we could do this with cases edited in the last week and NOT modified in the last 3 hours.
Would either of these possible please?
    Kind regards,
    Stuart
    Stuart

There is no way to do this by default as you are unable to use advanced find to filter on hours, minutes and seconds. All though these are defined in the date-time format.
To accomplish this you would need to make a custom developed list.
I cant even see you completing this request with any other semi-default functionality. I have tried thinking the cases through if you extract the HH from the date-time info, and that would work, but you would be missing the information on  your current
date-time, which wouldnt allow you to search for values that are greater than 4 hours difference.
    So.. custom development unfortunetly.

  • Outlook 2010 Advanced Find Contacts Not Working

Some Outlook 2010 Advanced Find criteria work but the "email is not empty" and "email is empty" criteria return no results though there are contacts that have the Email field populated.

    Hi,
Are you using Search Tools > Advanced Find > Advanced tab > Field > Email Fields > Email? Please make sure you selected the correct Contacts folder when you perform the search.
We can also try remove Outlook from the indexing location to check the result. To do this, click Search Tools > Search Options > Indexing Options > Modify > clear the check box before Outlook...
Please let me know the result.

  • Microsoft Outlook Advanced Find

I use Microsoft Advance Find for my everyday job. We depend on it to work everyday. Wednesday January 1st the Advanced Find has not been properly working. When searching for emails or messages by a certain name it picks some names up and then it
misses other names. There is no consistency for what it is finding and not finding. I work for a company that has a IS Help Desk. We have been working with them since Wednesday the 1st and they have not come up with a solution for the problems we are having.
    Any advise would be appreciated.

    Hi,
What steps have you tried yet?
I suggest you rebuild the index in Windows:
For Windows 7: Start -> type "index" in the search field. At the top click on "Indexing Options". Click on
    Advanced then Rebuild.
For Windows 8, 8.1: Search -> type "Indexing Options" in the search field. At the top click on "Indexing Options". Click on
    Advanced then Rebuild.
    I hope this helps.

  • IE11 build 17501 blocks CRM-Functions (Look-up Results, Advanced Find...)

    Hi!
With the recent update to 17501 we are no longer able to work properly with MS CRM.
Problem 1: when working with Look-up fields, the results of the search cannot be selected anymore. Current workaround: where possible, use look-up field as a search field to get an immediate hit or up to 10 possible hits. Does not work for sharing records.
Problem 2: Advanced Find: it is not possible to add columns anymore - no work around at the moment.
According to other posts, the problems occur both for CRM 4.0 and CRM 2011.

  • Specifying Categories in Advanced Find

I'm not an IT professional, but I was
advised to ask this here (moved from Microsoft Community).
I use Outlook 2010 and the "Advanced Find -> Query Builder" tab for advanced searches.  I have emails with colour categories. The categories have labels assigned in the normal way, such as red="awaiting
    response", blue="urgent", purple="project X", etc.
I want to specify a query/search with one condition being "Categories doesn't include 'project X' " or
"Categories doesn't include [purple category]". (Basically I know all about project X and by definition anything with that category isn't relevant.)  So the results would include items that have no categories, or any combination
of categories, but would exclude items in purple category.
I've tried the expected "Categories doesn't include [...]" with the value as "project" or "project x" or "purple" but it's not doing anything.
What should be typed in a query builder query, to specify a more precise condition, of the format
       Field = <Categories>
       Condition = <doesn't contain>
       Value = ????????
    in Outlook 2010?
    Thanks!

I've tried the expected "Categories doesn't include [...]" with the value as "project" or "project x" or "purple" but it's not doing anything.
This condition should work in Outlook. Please make sure you have finished the following two steps when searching:
    1. Make sure you have properly set the search scope.
    2. Make sure you have clicked the Add to List button after you defined the criteria.
Then, you can click Find Now button to search the result.

  • Outlook 2010, Advanced Find, 'Where I am the only person on the TO line' not working

Outlook 2010 running in online mode with Exchange 2010 SP3.
When performing an Advanced Find, clicking the check box 'Where I am:' and selecting 'the only person on the To line', the search results return email messages where there are multiple people in the To
    line.
Does anyone have any insight on this, and is there a custom search I can perform for similar results in the Advanced tab?
    Thank you

Unable to repro it here. What if we enable cached Exchange mode, will this issue continue?
In addition, meeting items will ignore the 'Where I am: the only person on the To line' criteria when searching. Make sure these search results are not meeting items.

Is any one has a better method using DW's "Find and Replace"
function to do this job automatically?

Using Templates with a 900 page site is a crime against
    humanity. You reach
the optimal size for Templates between about 50 and 100.
The error you are getting suggests that there are coding
    errors on the page
(perhaps even unrelated to ANY DW Template markup). We'd need
    to see the
page to make progress with what that might be, as Alan says.

  • Secure Empty Trash vs Empty Trash, Hangs and Advanced Finder Pref.

I've had my intel-based iMac for a couple of weeks and I've been getting a frequent hanging trash problem that causes me to restart my Mac far too often. Restarting the iMac fixes it but I don't know what the problem is to begin with. It seems to happen when I have over 10MB in the trash and I choose "Secure Empty Trash."
While I'm on the topic of "Secure Empty Trash," won't "Empty Trash" do the same thing SECURELY since I've previously checked it off in my Finder Preferences? Is the "double selection" of secure empty trash part of the problem (i.e. selecting it when I go to empty the trash as well as having it selected in my finder preferences)? Any and all help is appreciated.

Yes it's the same if you choose Secure Empty Trash from the Finder or if you have it selected in the Finder advanced preferences. The thing is electing to Secure Empty the trash may take a lot longer to empty because it does either a 7 pass or 35 pass write over the files and that can take a long time to do for large files.
As a test it took me just over 3 minutes to Secure Empty a 175MB file.
Something you should do though seeing as you've had to forcefully shut down your iMac a few times is Run Disk Utilities. Open up Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility select your hard drive on the left and under the First Aid tab click on Repair Disk Permissions then Verify Disk.

Find My iPhone is good for misplaced iPhone but not good for thief and it was never meant to be.
You chance of getting it back is very small.
There are a few things you can try.
Try remote lock/wipe your iPhone through Find My iPhone.

  • Outlook advanced search & Exchange 2013 - "Sent to...." field doesn't work correctly in online mode?

    Hello,<o:p></o:p>
We've come across what seems to be a problem with advanced find in Outlook in online mode, when used with Exchange 2013.
Using the "Messages" tab of "Advanced Find", anything typed into the "Sent to...." field produces no search results.  If the field is populated by clicking
"Sent to..." and selecting a name from a contact list or GAL, results are returned.
    eg.
Sent items contains messages to "Charlie" who has the email address
    [email protected] and sender is
"Dave" who has the email address
    [email protected]
    Entering "charlie" or
[email protected], (or any previously acceptable partial term such as "charl" or "@contoso.com") into the "Sent to"" field produces no results.  If the user exists in a contact
list and is selected from it, the search works fine.  The same is true searching the inbox, using the local user's id of "Dave" or
    [email protected]
We've confirmed this issue occurs at four client's sites, plus our own internal Exchange 2013 CU3 system.  Four of the sites have been transitioned from Exchange 2010, the fifth was a completely new installation.  The problem occurs with Outlook
    2007, 2010 and 2013.
This works fine in cached mode (not a solution as our clients are predominantly Citrix/RDS).  Exchange search doesn't report any issues and the index states are all "healthy",
we've also tried rebuilding the indexes with no improvement.
Any ideas would be appreciated, or even if someone else can confirm they see the same thing.
    Thanks.

    Hi Winnie,
Thanks for your reply, and I'm sorry I've not responded earlier.  While this problem is one that's annoying several of our clients, and while I have been doing further testing and investigation, it's had to take a back seat to other more pressing issues
    until now.
OWA search works fine, as does using "From:" in instant search, and the "From" query on the Advanced tab in Advanced Find.  The search services have been restarted, indexing state and copy status etc are all healthy, the indexes
have been rebuilt/reseeded, and I've gone through the diagnostics again.  Nothing is logged in event viewer, and the only error that comes up when checking failed index docs for a user are for unsupported format handlers (.png etc).
The issue seems purely to be with the "Sent to..." field on the Messages tab, it's as if it gets completely ignored.  The search returns instantly with "There are no items to show in this view".  Just to make sure I wasn't losing
my marbles, I've compared searches on Exchange 2007 and 2010, and on those I can enter as little as a single letter or email domain and receive the expected results.  On 2013 I get nothing whatsoever whatever I enter, unless I pick an address from a contact
    list.
At this point, I thought that since Office 365 is Exchange 2013 based it'd be worth testing that, and sure enough I got exactly the same issue.  I setup an Office 365/Outlook 2010 profile on a machine that is currently in an existing Exchange 2010
environment where search works correctly, searching Office 365 doesn't work on that either.
EDIT - Ignore this bit, a fresh install of Windows 7 and Office 2010 doesn't work with Office 365 either.  I am exploring another avenue.  I setup a fresh Windows 7 VM, installed Office 2010 and connected that to Office 365, search worked fine,
so I'm now looking into what the difference with that VM and the servers and workstations out "in the wild" could be.  For example, the test VM isn't on a domain, it's not fully patched, it has no additional software installed etc.  Outside
of Microsoft applications and operating systems and having similar configurations, I haven't isolated a common link across all of our client sites that are affected, there's no single 3rd party application or anti-virus solution in place at all of them for
    example.
I'll update with any findings, but if you or anyone else has any idea in the meantime I'd be grateful for your input.
    Regards.
