AE CS3 Adjust Exposure or Reset Exposure causes video to garble

I've recently installed AE CS3 on a new Westmere Mac running OSX 10.6.  Using the adjust exposure slider or clicking the reset exposure button causes (usually) brief video glitches where the screen becomes garbled.  An example is attached.  Is this a known problem with the Radeon 5870 or 10.6 or none of the above?
Anyone seen this before?  Anyone running AE CS3 on a Westmere for that matter?
Thanks in advance for any insights...

Hi Todd,
Switching off hardware acceleration does eliminate the problem.  Sorry, I missed that before!  This is a good work-around, but is there a permanent fix?  Will CS5 (which we'll be migrating to soon) resolve it?
There are no Software Updates available, but I can't see any proof that the SL Graphics update is installed.  It doesn't show up in the "installed Updates" list of the Software Update system prefs panel — do you know how I can confirm?

Subject: AE CS3 Adjust Exposure or Reset Exposure causes video to garble
But since this is a Westmere Mac Pro w/ ATI Radeon card, is it even applicable?
Yes. Even though the update was mostly needed for NVIDIA cards, it seems to help for ATI cards, too.
You didn't say whether you had turned off the hardware acceleration of previews like I suggested.

I recently purchased a new desktop computer and installed Adobe CS3 Master Edition on it and I get the following error:
Adobe Photoshop CS3 has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    Out of the entire suite of tools only Photoshop will not launch. The weird thing is i also had the same Adobe programs installed on my laptop and I have not made any installation updates to that machine and i am getting the same error.     You'll probably going to have to uninstall, then re-install the application; but you need to provide a lot more information;

  • Adjusting sensitivity of Library Exposure Adjustments

Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the adjustment for Exposure when working in Library mode?
Since LR has no way of showing you what a photo will look like when exported to sRGB, I often end up with photos out of gamut or too bright looking once they are on the web. Using library I can make a "relative" adjustment to all the photos. The Exposure adjustments available in Library are 1/3 and 1 full stop.
I would like to drop the exposure for all photos by 0.15 so they will look better in sRGB... is there a place where the sensitivity of the 'click' can be adjusted to bring it down to say 0.15 and 0.5 stops?

    Edward-
I wouldn't bother with such an adjustment for the web, UNLESS it's aimed at art directors or clients with high end calibrated monitors. Most monitors are out of whack more than a half a stop- in either direction....

  • Exposure control errors when recording videos with...

I noticed that when I record videos, the exposure sometimes is not adjusted properly. If lighting conditions change, exposure remains at the same level, and records became over or underexposed. This is especially noticeable outdoors.
I have a few minutes long sample recording where the recording starts normally, then as light conditions change, (I slowly move from a shady area to a lit area) exposure gradually degrades to a point where most of the recording "burns out" due to extreme overexposure ( about 80% of the picture is white).
What confuses me is when I tried to reproduce this problem (albeit it different lighting conditions), exposure control worked pretty good.
I wonder if these exposure problems are due to a bug, hardware problem or a device limitation.
Do you have any tips to get better recordings with the phone?

  • CS3 & WacomCTE  Ink color resetting to black

I have so far not found reference to this problem.
Up until now everything great, older driver+sapphire+CS3 in Vista, but today my pen periodically reset to black while having another color selected, only to return to the selected color in a new layer and again switch back. I tried it using another tablet to make sure but same problem, not my tablet. I then installed the latest drive. Everything else inc. sensitivity, brush stroke, worked fine with both tables but I still continued to have my ink swith to black while using another color. Are there specific settings within CS3 I should adjust? Anything else it could be?

Are you by chance using the pencil tool with the auto erase box checked
    in the tool options bar?
Also did you check the color dynamic settings in the brush panel?

  • Yahoo security password resets are causing misery ...

Yahoo has stepped up it's security and as a result is forcing many of us to reset our passwords when their program detects 'unusual activity' Quite what that means I don't think anyone really knows. I have been forced to change my passwords twice in the past three weeks. The ensuing havoc this causes is extraordinary. The password resets itself for brower access but it can take days or weeks for the servers to be updated for Outlook or Blackberry to be able to use the password. I have no spent some twenty hours trying to sort this out. It is a problem that BT is unaware of although I have made four complaints about it. BT seems to have structured itself to be largely ineffective to deal with any complaint. There is no person that you can speak to that actually can take responsibility. An organisation that is so slow to respond and so poorly organised to respond to customer problems in a effective way is going to loose my business. When they call you and can't reach you they just leave a message that they will call back. It would make sense to leave a contact name and number where you could call the technical line back when the customer is available. it is small things like this that show that this company has lost touch with pretty much all its values and principles. I have been BT for over 30 years and I have seen this company disintegrate into a confused mess.. I feel as sorry for the staff as for the customers, who have been structured into small cogs in the system with no power to actually solve things.

You have all had trouble with your password??? I have had this for months and it is only in the past week that this has stopped happening.People didn't believe me when I said  my email client couldn't  access the server. The cure[for a day] was to go to the BT yahoo sign in remove my correct password and re-instate it --that worked-for a day -so every day for  several months  I had to do this all the time. It has stopped at the moment but I wont be holding my breath I have had major problems with BT yahoo over several years and will be glad when that virus is removed and I am transferred to CP Yahoo high-jacks you to its paid for sites  changes your tabs and bookmarks -sent me to the US yahoo website and the only option 2 years ago was to pay a website -to GET BACK TO BT YAHOO!!- It has multible accounts  on Yahoo that I cant remove All business -The US-China-Italy many more ALL on my account I cant remove. I complained here and  somone must have seen the complaint of an armed protection company who were using my account -that has now gone but the US government still think I run a government agency for the Native Americans and invite me to apply for grants for them. I will jump for joy!! when the yahoo trojan is removed from BT.

  • Resetting Safari causes problems with iTunes

I frequently have to access a problematic Web portal for work that requires me to accept all cookies for it to work properly. So, I've take to periodically resetting Safari to clear out all the tracking cookies that accumulate.
The problem is this: when I reset Safari, iTunes Match stops working (it doesn't throw an error; the icon just changes to a cloud with a lightning bolt inside).
In order to get things working again, I need to log out of both Match and the iTunes store, quit/relaunch iTunes, log back in, re-add the computer, and wait for it to sync before I can use Match again.
Even if, by some distorted sense of programming logic, Apple has linked the browser to it's music player, performing a housekeeping function in one app shouldnot cause an adverse issue in another app.
This issue has been going on for several versions of both apps, and I was hoping it'd be cleared up with iTunes 11, but, nope. I've even reinstalled the OS and started from scratch on one of the machines when I upgraded the hard drive, but the problem persists there, too.
I'm using Safari 6.0.2 on OS 10.7.5 on a Mac Pro, Safari 6.0.2 and 10.8 on both a MacBook Air and a Mac Mini, and have the same issue with all three.
    Annoying, to be sure.
So, after all of that, does anyone know of a workaround that will allow me to clear Safari of unwanted tracking crap without causing all those login issues with iTunes Match?

I only signed up to iTunes Match a couple of days back but am also having this problem on my Macbook Air. I too like to Reset Safari regularly.
As you've noticed, it is the cookies being cleared by Safari which causes this problem. I've gone into the cookies and found apple.com is the one that we need to keep in order to keep iTunes match happy on this device. I've tried to find a way to protect this cookie and exclude it from Reset Safari or Remove All Website Data, but no joy. I can't find a way to do this.
One workaround I have come up with though, is to manually delete the cookies and other website data, whilst keeping apple.com. This may be of no help to you, zeraphoto, as I guess you're looking for a way to do this with one click, such as Reset Safari, but this may be of use to others with less knowledge of cookies.
When you go to Reset Safari, untick Remove All Website Data. This will prevent cookies from being deleted. To clear cookies and other webiste data, go to Safari Preferences, Privacy, then under Cookies And Other Website Data click on Details. Here you will find the sites which have cookies and other website data stored on the device. Simply select all except for apple.com, and hit Remove. iTunes Match will still work.
Like you say though, Apple really need to make iTunes independent of Safari. If it is storing data, it shouldn't be in the general cookies location on the device. It makes no sense.
Apple, please correct this somewhat major flaw.

  • Network reset, what causes it?

Ok, I download digital stuff from apple and I keep getting problems with "Network Reset".  Some titles download complete, others say there was a problem "network reset".  What causes this?  Can I fix it?  How?  I use an iMac 2011 and an Airport base station.  Any known issues?  Help . . .
    Dave

    No worries.
The network icon is for you to look outward. It has no bearing on if people can get in.
To be sure no-one is getting in, you can stop all services and be sure your firewall is enabled.
    Sharing Preference Pane:
Services Tab - turn off all services to be sure no inbound connections are enabled. Most are relatively safe if you have good passwords and keep the system up to date. Some do allow people to log in - so use care.
Firewall Tab - be sure it is ON and the button says "Stop" - It takes some getting used to - but makes sense in that if protection is on, you have to do something (click the button) to stop the protection. Again - to be the most secure - all check marks below should be off.
It's not as useful and you lose features by turning things off, but the only safe computer is one not connected to a network and locked in a very safe room (with an operator that takes files from no-one).
P.S. noob are welcome here - stupid is not learning because of fear of not already knowing everything.

  • Resetting PRAM caused Keychain to stop working?!?

I reset my PRAM few days back and now keychain doesn't store any passwords. Everytime I log onto an accounts it promts if I want to save and I click Yes. I tried deleting everything from it, created a new keychain group but still no luck. Also tried repair, no go.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I didn't know how much I relied on keychain until recently.

If you want to preserve the data on the startup drive, and it's not already backed up, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive or other storage device to hold the data.
    1. Start up from the Recovery partition, from Internet Recovery, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
If you use FileVault 2, then you must first unlock the startup volume. Select its icon ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. Enter your login password when prompted.
    2. If Method 1 fails because of disk errors, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    3. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    4. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • Adjusting system time during runtime causes problems?

Running a TDS based application on Win2008R2. 5.1.19 (yes we are updating to 5.2.36 later this week)
The system clock was adjusted back by 5 hours while running. No issue at time, but after an app restart we found we had a corrupted trans log with LSNs lower than those in database files. Had to recover by removing the tran log and clearing LSNs in a database file using db_load -r lsn
Is there something in the trans log contents or writing process that would be affected by a change in system clock backwards?

    Hello,
I don't think a clock change could impact the transaction log
files. However it is definitely the case that an anti-virus
software scans should be avoided on Berkeley DB data files
(database, transaction log, region). An anti-virus scan could
be problematic if a page is scanned at the same time the library
code is trying to lock a database for an update. Is there any
chance that an anti-virus scan or some other application happened
at the same time which might have been touching a database page?
    Thanks,
    Sandra

  • Adjusting a URL and reloading causes it to go to Google - any way to just let it reload the page?

I was testing some calls to a Solr index with different URL query parameters. But each time I adjust a parameter and reload the page, instead of making the call again I'm dropped into Google search.
However, if I (tediously) manually edit the URL to specifically add back in "http://" at the beginning of the line I can reload the page.
This doesn't happen in Safari or Chrome. It seems to be a problem unique to FireFox.
It makes testing cumbersome and I was wondering if there was a solution for this.
    Thanks,
    doug

Could you describe how you are making the calls? For example, are you setting window.location.href, using window.open(), etc.? Submitting a form?
One reason for getting a search could be a space in the URL. Is there any way to avoid spaces in the URL, or can you confirm that they are being properly encoded to %20?
Do you want to try disabling address bar search (keyword search) as a workaround? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-web-address-bar#w_turning-off-the-internet-keyword-search

  • IPad 2camera exposure blown fuzzy colours both video and still image! ?????

My iPad camera goes all fuzzy and brightly colourful when I move the iPad or there is to much light. it keeps breaking up and it looks like the camera jumps in and out of the "thermal" effect on photobooth. NO effect is actually being used, it looks terrible, grainy and keeps fuzzing.
    see here (evidence):
    http://www.padgadget.com/2011/03/27/ipad-2-camera-issues-yet-more-evidence-of-a- problem/

A week ago I noticed that the problem came back, and I don't know why. I have no idea why this keeps happening...
But I could solve the problem by doing what I said above. I don't think it's a too large effort. Simply backup your device, reset it to factory settings, reactivate it as a new iPad and then restore your old data from the backup. Whole process may take 5 - 30 minutes, depending on how much data you have on your iPad.
I hope Apple will resolve this problem in an iOS update (at least I think it's a software problem...)

  • Factory reset (F11) causes reboot loop

    3000 J115 Desktop (7389-24G)
I restored to original using F11 and following the instructions.  No errors were noted and when it requested a reboot to continue, the computer reboots and for a moment shows a white screen before rebooting again and again...  I re-did the restore to factory (F11) again and had the same results.  Do I need to load drivers or something?  I don't have any original disks or restore disks.

    hi Slim_Whitman,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
If you get as far as Step 20 of this guide, but just shows a white screen then there's probably an internal problem on the unit (could be bad sectors on the HDD). To verify this, you will need to run a diagnostic on the drive,
    To create a diagnostic disc:
    1. Download the UBCD ISO
    2. Burn the ISO using imgburn
    3. Insert the CD that you just created into the defective computer and reboot
    4. Upon reboot, continuously press F12 and boot from the ODD/CD-DVD
    5. On the diagnostic options, navigate to HDD > Diagnosis > & choose the diagnostic software depending on the brand of your HDD (i.e. choose Seagate for DOS if you have a Seagate HDD, Data Lifeguard if you have a Western Digital HDD, etc..)
To burn the diagnostic softwre on a flashdrive, follow this guide
If you get any errors, you will need to contact lenovo for service.
If you don't get any errors, the recovery partition might be faulty and you need to contact lenovo and obtain a copy of the recovery disc.
    Hope this helps.
