After Reboot Hyper-V client machine Picks APIPA

hi
we have a very small environment hosted on Hyper-V 2012 R2. this issue is with the client machines, whenever they are restarted the machine picks up APIPA, i tried giving manual IP address but still after reboot the client would not ping after logging in
the server via hyper-v manager console and checking the network adapter status we came to know that its again picked up APIPA even after giving static IP.
so everytime to resolve this we will have manually login to all the clients via hyper-v manager console and go to network adapter properties then disable it and renable it.
Kindly suggest if there is any other way to resolve this issue permanently

Hi Sir,

Generally , getting an APIPA address means IP conflict , please check if the conflict exists .
"ALL the clients"  means all of the VMs runnng on that hyper-v host ?
So far ,  I haven't seen this in hyper-v enviornment .
You also can try to disable APIPA :

  • Script to Reboot hyper-v virtual machine with email notification

    Hello, I have been playing with this all day today but cannot seem to get it to do what I want. I want to restart 4-6 Virtual machines housed in hyper-v using a script. Then I want to send out an email letting myself know it was successful. Here is what
    I have been trying to work with but no matter what I have changed I cant seem to get it to work.
    Import-Module Hyper-v
    $VM = "server1, server2, server3, server4"
    Stop-VM -name $VM
    start-sleep -s 240
    $getVM = get-vm $vm
    if ($getvm.Enabledstate -eq "3"){
    $date = Get-date
    start-VM -name $vm
    start-sleep -s 60
    $getVm2 = Get-VM -VM $vm -server HYPERVHOST
    if ($getVM2.enabledstate -eq "2") {
    $messageParameters = @{
    Subject = "$VM reboot status for $((Get-Date).ToShortDateString())"
    Body = " The Server $vm has rebooted at - $date. The server is up and operational."
    From = "[email protected]"
    To = "[email protected]"
    SmtpServer = "SMTPSERVER" }
    send-mailmessage @messageparameters -bodyashtml
    if ($getVM2.enabledstate -ne "3") {
    $messageParameters2 = @{
    Subject = "$VM reboot status for $((Get-Date).ToShortDateString())"
    Body = " The Server $vm has rebooted at - $date. Please check the vm $vm as there may be an issue. It has not fully restarted"
    From = "[email protected]"
    To = "[email protected]"
    SmtpServer = "SMTPSERVER" }
    send-mailmessage @messageparameters2 -bodyashtml

    This line of code looks wrong:
    $VM = "server1, server2, server3, server4"
    That will assign a single string to the $VM variable. If you intend the $VM variable to contain a list of 4 items, write it this way:
    $VM = "server1","server2","server3","server4"

  • Client machine force reboot after apply window patch updated

    I found all of client machines will force reboot after window patching updated via SCCM 2012. Have any options in SCCM 2012 can let users to choose reboot their machine after patching ? likely WSUS, users can suspend the reboot request. Pls advice.

    The notification will happen automatically if ConfigMgr installs updates that require a reboot but a reboot is not initiated so there's nothing additional you need to do.
    Note however that allowing users to choose this instead of forcing it is generally bad practice because the updates aren't truly installed until the reboot happens and there have been a couple of updates of the years that cause flakiness until the system
    is rebooted also.
    Why not allow the users to install the updates when they want up until a deadline and then force the reboot at the deadline (if one hasn't already been performed)? This gives the user the control over the process but also forces it to happen if the user
    neglects performing it.

  • Hyper-v Client in Win10 Enterprise Technical Preview does not boot to PXE via Leagacy Network Adapter after OS is installed using gen 1 BIOS

    Using Hyper-v within Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview to boot a Win 7  Legacy BIOS (Generation 1) Operating system client does not boot to PXE legacy network adapter after operating system has been installed within the Virtual Client.
    Hyper-v Client will boot to PXE Legacy Network Adapter only when no other boot device is available and no OS is installed.
    Hyper-V settings seem to ignore BIOS - Startup order within Hyper-V Client Settings and will always boot to VHD before Legacy Network Adapter even if Legacy Network adapter is first in the startup list.
    IF VHD is deleted and a new VHD added to the Client then will boot to PXE using Legacy Network Adapter. Again once OS is installed then will not boot to PXE Legacy Network Adapater.
    Gen 2 BIOS/UEFI works as expected and boots to PXE network everytime.

    Thank you for the information.
    Currently I am not available to take a test using Windows 10 on physical machine.

    My Macbook was hacked by somebody right after activating downloaded VLC player.
    I couldn’t control my machine. Every thing was messed up! Finally after reboot I realized that even my administration password was changed. Stupid hint I was able to reed: What located in box above low case ? I used my friends computer and founded hot to fix my problem using Unix commands to reboot in a single user mode. I founded a lot of different solutions which had prity the same beginnings but very complicated continuation, which, I understood will force me to cach during restoration anuther crap – time bomb in my mac! Finaly I did restor. somehow. But still feel somebodyies presents. Safary messed up – I will send you a log Itunes – messed up. Speaker in a top menu – grayed, and I can’t control my volume. But the most triky thing – bouth my Apple keybords – internal and mostly bluetouth external also working and typing wired! I am sorry for my spelling, because I cant check spell for Mac’s Word (in Microsoft it was F7) I have also several attacks from my neighbors by community I know their names, because they are somethere very close to me – I can see them throuth FI-FI connection. They often kick-me out from my place and started to use my resaurces. And also Mackeeper make me a hard time!
    In Microsoft times u just reinstalled computer – clean installetion from corporate licensed disk. But now I am a beginner in MAC – I love it! But a lot of new and triky – at this way
    Fore example – my goal – to do fool Macbook backup at external USB drive using boot srartup option and make my life yaser in case of crash. But now, I don’t know if I can trust recommended program  Carbon copy cloner – Ms. Bombich?
    I am very sorry for my spelling, because I feel somebodies presents, who playin with me.
    Final question Do I need some antivirus Mac compatable which is update paches, service packs? How to map defolt documents folder not to a local, but to external USB?
    Esquse me for a lot of questions, but I am beginner in MAC, and I LOVE it!
    PS. Good news. Looks like Safari came back! Somebody, probably allredy helping!
    But my interface qute different from original – so something still wrong!

    Didn't really read much at all of your post. Much, much too long, irrelevant details and & no paragraphs.

  • Hyper-V 2012 R2 - Linux Guest VLAN Settings lost after reboot

    Hi Guys,
    last night a have seen a strange behavior with a Sophos UTM 9.204020 Linux Guest VM. (This VM is based on SUSE SLES v11? i think)
    So i have Setup this in my home lab and experienced the same problem.
    ----Setup-----
    2 External VM Switches
    Management OS is on VLAN 4093 with IP 192.168.20.1
    The guest network adapter is in Trunk Mode, VLAN Tag (4093) is set in the guest OS with IP 192.168.20.100
    Everything works until you kick off a reboot from the guest or hyper-v console, after the reboot you loose the connectivity on the network adapter with the vlan trunk.
    If you shutdown the guest and start it everthing works again - this happens only on reboot!!
    I have tried diffrent things (static mac, enable disable hardware features (vmq/offloading etc) on the vm network adapter but always the same error.
    After some search on the net i have found this article: Link
    This guy has the same problem with another linux vm (based on debian) his workaround was to trigger a powershell script with the eventlog after reboot of the vm, this works for me too but this must be bug?
    Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    André

    Hi Andre,
    I would suggest you to install the supported Linux guest OS on hyper-v , please refer to following link:

    me in this regards?
    Regards

    Hi Meer,
    In addition ,  you need to use external virtual switch for these VMs that are used for RDP connection from clients .
    Please refer to the article below for virtual network configuration :

  • OSD TS application download fails after reboot - client incorrectly believes it "is on internet"

    Hello,
    Our  SCCM infrastructure is configured to use SSL and it’s working, no problems in daily operation.
    However, our windows 7 osd task sequence has an issue after a “reboot computer” step, on a single specific computer.
    The OSD TS looks as follows (cannot put screenshot due to account verification issue
    Setup Operating System
    - Setup Windows and Configuration Manager
    - Install Updates
    Standard Software
    - Install Default Apps
    - Install Adobe
    - Restart Computer
    - Install MS Apps
    - Install Antivirus
    "Install default apps” and “install adobe” works correctly. All app packages are downloaded and installed without errors.
    Then “restart computer” runs, also ok.
    Then “install ms apps” tries to install Office 2010 and lync. This and the following install steps all fail with this message in the task sequence report:
    “DownloadFailed – execution status received: 24 (Application download failed)”
    I opened a debug command line on the affected client with F8 and captured the logfiles.
    it seems the Client believes it is "on the Internet" after the reboot, and tries to contact our Internet-facing DP.

    SCCM TS continues to install software normally.
    Does anyone have an idea or a hint what is going on?

    i found something in LocationServices.log.
    it seems the Client is trying to contact our Internet facing DP ("externaldnsentry.company.com", real name changed) after reboot, because it thinks it "is on the Internet"

    how to pick the wireless physical address?
    Regards:

    Hi !
    our request object, which is available to all the jsp pages can access ip address and host name of client through these calls.
    request.getRemoteAddr()
    request.getRemoteHost()
    Interface "ServletRequest"
    getRemoteAddr ----
    public java.lang.String getRemoteAddr()
    Returns the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the client that sent the request. For HTTP servlets, same as the value of the CGI variable REMOTE_ADDR.
    Returns:
    a String containing the IP address of the client that sent the request
    getRemoteHost
    public java.lang.String getRemoteHost()
    Returns the fully qualified name of the client that sent the request. If the engine cannot or chooses not to resolve the hostname (to improve performance), this method returns the dotted-string form of the IP address. For HTTP servlets, same as the value of the CGI variable REMOTE_HOST.
    Returns:
    a String containing the fully qualified name of the client
    All the Best!

  • Embedded machine losing IP address after reboot

    I have an industrial PC running a trial version of Windows Embedded Standard. It has a hard-coded IP address, and is scheduled to reboot every night. Every so often (3 times in the last 2 weeks), the device
    will reboot, but another IP address will get assigned to the device. This device is NOT set up for DHCP. Looking through event viewer, I see a warning after the scheduled reboot stating that the device
    cannot resolve our web address (which is expected since it no longer holds a valid IP). There is an error following that message stating that "The Superfetch service terminated with the following error: The system cannot find the file specified".
    Rebooting the device again often resolves the issue - the device takes the correct IP address.
    Has anyone ever run into an issue where a device running this OS loses its IP address after reboot?

    Do you know if the OS is WES2009 or WES7?
    Is EWF or FBWF enabled in the image?

  • Client machine not reporting to wsus server

    My server Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard x 64 virtual machine install in Hyper-v server and Install SCE management version 2010.
    in sudden server stopped sending updated to client machine. So I check many and did many changed as per MS community forums. But still I have same issue.
    Then I planned to install again SCE management server in different VM. But even though I am getting error that old SCE management server is existing in my domain.  Therefore I am afraid to change or remove any setting in AD since I have short
    of knowledge about SCE servers.
    However my SCE server was working smoothly until 11-2013 and then suddenly stuck. When I check the server machine I found that local drive C: is getting full and SCE management is fail to start. So from that to now when ever I had free time I changed
    many things. But unfortunately I couldn't get the sever back to normal.
    Few changes which I made are below.
    - Remove and reinstall WAUS several times
    - Check online update and direct updated server SCE machine without getting updated from SCE
    - Remove dotnet frame work and updated version 4
    - product configuration wizard reconfigure
    - Repair management agent in client machine.
    Kindly help for me to repair my SCE server or make another installation without having change of settings.
    It would be highly appreciated if you could resolve issue
    The error massage is below in windows update log.

    Can you try the below to reset the authorization and force a connection back from one of the win 7 machines:
    it should help pinpoint exact issues.
    1. Record the system time.
    2. Reboot the system (or restart the Windows Update service).
    3. After reboot run the command wuauclt
    /resetauthorization /detectnow.
    4. Wait 30 minutes.
    5. Post the entries from the WindowsUpdate.log starting at the time recorded in Step #1.
    Do you have any Windows 7 machines that are reporting? Are other machines with different operating systems reporting correctly?

  • Hyper-V Virtual machine disappeared

    Hello,
    I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.  I have the Hyper-V role installed with to virtual machines.  I rebooted yesterday after windows updates loaded and now one of my virtual machine have disappeared.  I have run through hours of technet
    forums trying to find the answer and have come up empty.
    I checked ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows|Hyper-V\Virtual Machines and the symbolic link is gone.  I tried to recreat it using the mklink command, but every time I recreate the symbolic link to the .xml it comes back as a link to a file folder.
    I checked the acl on the virtual machine .xml on my D: drive and the GUID SID is missing.  I also tried to add it back via the iacls command but it doesn't seem to exist.
    After all that, I decided to recreate the entire virtual machine, but now I can't create virtual machines.  I get teh following error:
    "Failed to create external configuration store at 'folder path': A required privilege is not held by the client. (Virtual machine ID 0x80070522)"
    After that error I opend azman.msc and verified that the initalstore.xml has the administrators group in it.
    I do not know what else I can do from here.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • 2008 R2 Unidentified Network after Reboot

    Hi,
    We have two new servers running Server 2008 R2 and we first noticed a problem connecting to them with RDP after a reboot.  The problem was the firewall would not permit access because the NLA service could not identify that it was on the local domain
    network.  After updating the firmware on the system (HP DL380) and the NIC (Broadcom NC series) and installing the latest NIC driver, we are still experiencing the problem of being able to connect after a reboot.  While I can disable the firewall,
    that is not preferred. It also seems to have occurred after installing Hyper-V.  If I remove Hyper-V the problem seems to go away.  Using a single NIC, no teaming, etc.  Other unused NICs are disabled.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Darage,
    Thanks for posting here.
    The NLA service is used to determine the network profile. When a machine boots up or comes out of hibernation the NLA service that runs using the Network Service account will send an LDAP bind request to a domain controller in its site via port 389. The Network
    Service Account uses the client’s domain machine account when performing this bind. If the client can successfully bind to a DC in its domain, the network connection category will be set to “Domain”. If an LDAP bind is unsuccessful the network category is
    always public unless specified as private by the user.
    Network Location Awareness Service Provider (NLA)
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms739931(VS.85).aspx
    According to the your description, the domain profile is not detected properly. In this case, let’s check the following:
    1.       Verify  the Network Location Awareness service is Started and the Startup type is “Automatic”. Restart the NLA service.
    2.       Disable and re-enable the NIC which connects to the domain network. Meanwhile, please disable the all unused NICs.
    3.       The Network Location Awareness (NLA) service expects to be able to enumerate the domain’s forest name to choose the right network profile for the connection. The service does this by calling DsGetDcName on the forest
    root name and issuing an LDAP query on UDP port 389 to a root Domain Controller. The service expects to be able to connect to the PDC in the forest domain. If something hinders the DNS name resolution or the connection attempt to the DC, NLA is not able to
    set the appropriate network profile on the connection. Please ensure that the problematic clients can contact root DC properly.
