After intallation was completed, the automatic startup just placed a small box on the screen "Import wiz". This just sat there with no activity. After I closed this box, none of the Firefox start buttons would open the program -- just the blue rotating icon for about 2 seconds then nothing.

Firefox tries to run, mac says name too long. It will run only when mounted but will not run from Applications. It refuses to delete and stays in trash, must use combinations of DropNuke2 and Trash to get it to delete I think! Then when trying to put any other version of Firefox in Applications, Finder states name already exists then refuses to move the Firefox application to APplications! Never had problems with Firefox until installed the stupid beta 4 ver 6!

It turns out that there's something wrong about permissions.
Here's the fix:
(1) log in as the +root user+
(2) type +chown -R Michael:staff ~Michael+
(3) log out the +root user+
(4) log in your account
(5) done!

HT1751 When trying to reinstall my files from itunes back up on new hard drive It states that I do not have permissions to those files & access is denied

I backed up my itunes folder to my external hard drive.I then replaced my hard drive in my pc & installed windows 7 64 bit on the new hard drive. I reinstalled iTunes & and logged in & all my cloud purchases apperared. All my other music on the external hard drive is my problem. When I just try to open the file it states that I don't currently have permission to access this folder. I have tried to to take possesion of it & change the permissions but it keeps saying access is denied. I tried to drag it in to iTunes but it says I do not have permission. I am pulling my hair here because I have a lot of music that I cannot get to. I am so afraid that I am going to lose it all, I need help!! Please!!!!

I found out that i can play the file with windows media but it still will not play with itunes. It has to be a itunes issue. I purchased an album off itunes & it wont even let me download either

Scenarion : I have create in 1 january cold backup of my database. I have from 1 to 4 January all archive logs generated by my database. My database gone in 4 January.
Solution question : How can i restore database using cold backup a than add info from archivelogs to recovered database to do database consist from disaster day.

1. Kill current instance with SHUTDOWN ABORT.
2. Copy all control files and data files from your cold backup to original destination.
3. Make sure all archived redo logs from 01-JAN to 04-JAN are available in the database archive destination (LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST or LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_x).
4. Run as SYSDBA:
startup mount
recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;When prompted for something like

My Daughter is currently upgrading her MacBook Pro to OS X Lion. During the upgrade the system rebooted and then stops at the OS X Utilites menu. I have installed this same upgrade on My MacBook Pro and the family iMAC without issue. Did the upgrade encounter a problem? The only options are to Restore from Time Machine Backup, Reinstall Mac OS X, Get help, or Disk Utility.
I'm not sure how recient the backup is on the TimeMachine for her system and she is concered that she may loose a lot of updates she has made to iTunes and iPhoto.

2. Then select Documents and Settings Folder
3. Choose user account folder Ex: User
4. Then goto "Application Data" folder
5. Then choose "Mozilla"
6. Goto "Firefox"
7. Then goto "Profiles"
8. Choose "jj8doebi.default"
9. Then goto "bookmarkbackups"
10. Select the .JSON file that you want to restore the backup
Note that in order to visible the "Application Data" folder, you have to un-select "hide protected operating system files" option in Folder option.

Just continue to use the old AppleID account. You can update it with new email address if you wish.

We have been unable to restore user profile from Windows XP sp3 x86 to Vista x86 service pack 1 using USMT .
we keep receiving errors, see log below.
We have taken the backup from the windows xp several times, and Googled high and low for an answer - cannot get it to work.
We have used this sane command method on several windows xp to windows 7 migrations , without any issues.

We are using
USMTGUI  5.0.3, which I understand uses latest version of windows USMT ( 6.3) .
When I try using USMT 6.2 from AIKTOOLS to restore the profile using this command , i get a different error. I have even tried adding /hardlink /nocompress and restoring profile from portable hard drive instead of NAS, and getting a different

I have used the solution below to fix mine and others that have run into this issue.
Start --> Programs --> Accessories (Right Click on Command Prompt) --> Run as Administrator
then type in: "Netsh winsock reset" (-without the quotes-)
Hit enter, restart PC, iCloud For PC should now connect without any server errors
(This solutions will work in some instances when trying to fix errors associated when you are unable to connect to iTunes also.)

See if your Mac will boot from the install DVD.
Then uninstall Internet Cleanup.
