AIR 2.0 Create folder in C:\Program Files\ in windows 7

Hi,
We have a problem in creating a folder and a file inside C:\Program Files\ in this path in windows 7 and Windows vista. Is it possible to create a folder here. How to give elevated permission to my air application(administator previlage to the application). Is it possible in adobe air2.0 Adobe team please have a look into this issue.
Thanks.
Jayagopal P.S

I'm not an Adobe person, but based on my knowledge of Vista/7 permissions, the only way to give your app the elevated permissions is to right-click and run the app (each time) "as administrator".  Windows purposefully doesn't allow apps to permanently be flagged as having administrator permissions.  If you are cooking an exe yourself, there is a way to tell Windows that your app requires admin permissions on each run, but your user will still have to click past the prompt each time.  But since AIR is creating the .exe, I doubt there is a way to set that flag so that your app prompts for admin permissions.  Silly question I know, but are you absolutely sure you need to be storing files or folders here?  Windows takes great pains to prevent apps from doing that now...

  • I'm having problems with a message that says: An error occurred while Attempting to create the directory: C:/program files/itunes/cd configuarion

I know this is a long story, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to get the most specific help I can (as Apple seems to specialize in assuming user error for all its demonic software). I've never had issues with iTunes before (barring a "Connect to iTunes" snafu with my iPod Touch) -- and never, in fact, with Windows Vista, if you believe that -- but this is the most bizarre thing I've seen.
I recently downloaded the new iTunes v 9.0.3 as I am occasionally prompted to do whenever a new version comes out, and immediately I had problems. Access to the iTunes and Quicktime folders was mysteriously denied after the update, and after several hours of frustration, I was able to grant my own Administrative access to these two folders and installation went through. Thank God.
Then I bought some music. No problems -- downloaded just fine, along with a copy of Cinderella Man and the new episode of Smallville. Life was good for a few days.
Then I connected my iPod Touch to the computer. All of a sudden, Microsoft Windows informs me that the "Apple Mobile Device Service stopped working and was closed," with subtext, "A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available."
Bullsh*t Windows can help me with anything from Apple.
So I've tried to get iTunes to work with me on this. I've come up against the infamous "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000001)" message. My God, when does it ever end?
So I go into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Apple Mobile Device and start it back up... only to watch it stop again inexplicably moments later. Hmm... Restart. Stays on. Unplug the iPod and plug it back in. Apple Mobile Device Service stops again. Maybe it's the iPod Service itself. Hey, that one's not started! [Start] "Windows could not start the iPod Service service on Local Computer -- Error 5: Access is denied."
What the f*ck is it with this "Access denied" crap? I've never been denied access to even the most intimate functions, files and folders on my freaking computer before! What has Apple created!?
I thought, perhaps Apple Mobile Device software was somehow removed. Okay, let's redownload iTunes (aka Repair the program from the Programs and Features menu in the Control Panel -- same thing). Huh. "An error occurred while attempting to create directory C:\Program Files\iTunes\CD Configuration," and I can choose to Retry or Cancel. So, instinctively, I deleted the CD Configuration folder, assuming iTunes Setup would just recreate it.
Well, that didn't work now, did it? I deleted it and hit Retry, and it said, "The installer has insufficient priveleges to access the directory: C:\Program Files\iTunes\CD Configuration. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator." Running the .exe file as an adminstrator changes NOTHING about this predicament.
So that's where it stands. No CD Configuration folder; full access to all files and folders involved; Apple Mobile Device Service still keeps going off for no reason; iPod Service still doesn't run; Repairing/Reinstalling iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, etc. does nothing; and God (aka Steve Jobs, apparently) hates me.
    . . . . . . . . . . . . Help me.

I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below.

  • Installer Help ... folder permissions inside %Program Files%

So I just created an  installer on my Win7 machine, and I'm running into problems.
    Let's call my application "MyApplication.exe"
The application gets installed into "C:\Program Files\MyApplication" ... which is great.  It also creates a couple subdirectories inside that folder which my application will use.  For example:
    C:\Program Files\MyApplication\Data
    C:\Program Files\MyApplication\Log
My EXE needs to create files and write to these subdirectories.
The problem is that after installation, my EXE does not have permission to write to these folders.  I think by default, Win7 makes Program Files read-only for average users.
Is there any way my installer can make the "Data" and "Log" folders writeable during the installation process?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Help!  I am still stuck on this issue.
And the same issue is popping up on another application I am building.
The app gets installed to:     %Program Files% \ MyApp
And it comes with a configuration file in the same folder ... MyApp.ini
The problem is that because the file is located in Program Files on Win7, it becomes read-only.  And my app gets file permission errors when trying to write to it.  Even if the person executing the EXE is an administrator, I still get file permission errors.  Only way to get around it is to right-click on the EXE and select "Run As Administrator".

  • Directory created in UCCX server \Program Files\wfavvid\Prompts\user\en_US\ disappears

    Hello,
Has anyone experienced this before?  In my UCCX server, I have some sub-directories in the folder \Program Files\wfavvid\Prompts\user\en_US\ with prompts.  I just restarted the Cisco Unified CCX Engine  service, and the directory and prompt files disappeared!  I did it again just to make sure (created directory in that path and restarted the service again, and that directory is gone after the service comes back.)
    I'm running UCCX Premium 7.0(1)SR05_Build504
    Thanks,
    -Dave

    That's not a bug, it's a feature.
You cannot just go to the Prompts folder on the CCX filesystem and place your prompts there in whatever directory structure you'd like to. CCX will always restore the directory structure which is stored in its database after engine restarts.
You need to use the CCX administrative interface to create prompts dir structure, and upload the prompts there.
If you don't want to go over this hassle, you can also create a directory structure on the file system OFF the CCX Prompts folder, but you'll have to make sure in the scripts you'll have to reference your prompts a little bit differently. Instead of saying P[somedir\someprompt.wav] in the Play Prompt step, you'll have to first do a Create File Document with the full pathname and filename of the prompt file, and then do the Play Prompt step referencing the document created by the previous step. Here is what I use:

  • Is there an add-in for FF that will direct files based on the type? i.e. put graphic files in a folder called graphics, program files in a folder called exe etc?

I would like FF to be able to sort my downloads into categories, to put program files into a folder called exe, to put graphic files into a folder called pics ,etc. Can this be done?

The Firefox download manager isn't set up to do that, but I understand there are a few external download managers that offer a feature like that.

  • Location of Skype program files on Windows 8.1 mac...

My HP Windows 8.1 laptop came with Skype pre-installed, and I cannot find the program base files in Program Files or any other folder I have looked in. I want to find them as I deleted the Skype desktop shortcut and now want it back but cannotfind the .exe to create a new shortcut.
Strangely, while Skype appears as a metro app I cannot find a shortcut in the Windows start menu shortcut folder (C:/Program Data/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu).
Can anyone point me to the missing files?

Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type regedit and then press OK button. This will open Windows Registry. Find there this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options Expand this key and if you seer there an entry for Skype.exe, delete it. In order to find the right key in the Registry, you have first to click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, next on SOFTWARE, next Microsoft, e.t.c.

  • Create folder, name it after file, then drop said file into folder

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I could not seem to find the answer.
I currently have 1000+ files in one MASTER folder.
I want to create a folder for each file with the same name as the file, and have that file dropped in the new folder, nested within MASTER.
Preferably, I would also like this triggered when a new file of a certain type is dropped into the MASTER folder.
Seems simple enough, but I can't quite figure it out.
    Thanks.

Hi mcmachete, and a warm welcome to the forums!
First of all it's very bad practice to have a File & a Folder of the same name in the same path, can you devise another method that will satisfy tour requirements?

  • Unable to install iTunes, I get an error saying it is unable to create the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\da.lproj\iPodWelcomeOffline.nib

Unable to install iTunes, I get the following error:

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Disclaimer: You should not follow any of these instructions. They will cause you harm in every conceivable way. Don’t continue I say again … go read a book, see a movie, hit the gym, spend time with family and friends but by all means don’t read any further and certainly don’t follow any of these instructions.
    Windows 7
    Are you getting these errors?
“an error occurred while applying security information to: “filename”
    “access is denied”
“you currently don’t have access to this folder”
File Folder Lock On Lock Off Icon
Note: you may want to create a “test folder” and test these instructions so you can get familiar with them. Also if you have lots of folders, subfolders and files your computer may take awhile to make all the changes. Just sit back and relax while it crunches away ;-)
If you are going to want access to all your folders and files start with the topmost folder as we will be making a selection that will apply the setting to all subfolders and files. Ill point this out when we get to it later. You may only want to do this to files that you use directly and not mess with system files etc. These instructions can help you with files already on your system or files that you are bringing in from an external drive or other source.
    Here we go!
First we will be taking “ownership” of your files and folders (instructions 1-18) then we will be granting you the proper “permissions” (instructions 19-) ; these are two key principles you need to be aware of to properly manage your files. The good new is that once you make these changes they will persist and then you will be your local file guru!
    Instructions:
    TAKING OWNERSHIP (1-18):
    1) Turn on your computer and log into windows with administrator privileges. If you are the only user of your computer then chances are the normal account you log in with has these privileges. If someone else set your computer up for you they may have the administrator privileges and you should check with them.
    2) Right click on your top most folder and select properties.
    3) Select the security tab at the top.
    4) Don’t answer any questions that pop up just click the “advanced button” on the bottom right.
    5) Click the owner tab.
    6) Now click edit.
    7) Then click on “you”, that is, the account that you just logged into your computer with, also known as your “username”.
    8) Check the box “replace owner on subcontainers and objects”. I promised to point this out earlier. If you don’t check this box then any changes you make WON’T apply to the subfolders and files.
    9) Click apply.
    10) A dialog box should pop up with a message “You do not have…”
    11) you should select “yes”
    12) Another dialog box should pop up with a message “If you have just taken ownership …”
    13) Select “OK”
    14) Click “OK” again to close the “advanced security settings” screen were making changes to.
    15) The next box should now show you as the current owner
    16) Click “OK”
    17) Click “OK” again to close the properties tab
    18) We are now back at your folder listing. Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of your files! Take good care of them 
    SETTING PERMISSIONS
    19) OK, now let’s get started setting your permissions. Right click your topmost folder again and select properties.
    20) Select the security tab at the top.
    21) OPTIONAL: You will likely see a list of “group or user names” that have various permissions. You don’t need to make any changes to these. If you want to remove some then click edit, highlight a “group or user” and hit remove.
    22) If you are not already listed we need to add “you” to the list, again by “you” I mean the name of the account  that you logged into your computer with to start this session when you logged into windows, in other words your “username”. Click “add” then type JUST your username that comes up when you first log in to your computer by entering your username and password. You shouldn’t’ include any pathnames JUST the username.
    23) Click on “check names”; windows should find you.
    24) Click “OK”.
    25) Now you should be back at the “Permission/security” box
    26) Check the “full control” box under “allow”. Scroll down and you will see you can do everything now. Hey, stop obsessing …the “special permissions” tab is OK unchecked…  It is there if you were to want to fine tune. You took full control already what else do you want  You are behind the driver’s wheel my friend, enjoy!
    27) Select “apply”.
    28) Select “OK”
    29) Select “OK”
    30) OPTIONAL (THE little LOCK): did a “lock” appear. It might have if you removed all other “group or user names” back in step 21. The lock just means that YOU alone have access to these files. It is not bad in fact it is an easy way to see that the folder is unshared in every way. If you want to experiment with the “lock” try this: Right click the folder again but this time DON’T select properties instead a little higher up on the list select “share with”: see the lock by “nobody”. You aren’t sharing with anybody and so there is a lock to signify that. To experiment you can click “specific people” type “guest” click “add” then click to highlight the new “guest row” leave the “read” box checked and click “share”. You are now sharing those folders or files with “YOU” and anyone that logs onto your machine as a “Guest” and the lock has disappeared. To bring the lock back: right click the folder, click “share”, click “nobody”. LOCK ON / LOCK OFF …hey your Kung Fu is pretty good! For further experimenting with the lock try this but first a security warning: (SECURITY WARNING: changing these sharing settings may share your files with anyone going through your router/homegroup. This may compromise your security. Always protect access to your wireless router by using passwords to get onto the wireless network and also setting router passwords to prevent access to the router itself). If you set up a “homegroup” on your network and select this choice the “lock” will disappear and your files can now be shared with anyone logged into your network.
    • There could be multiple reasons for “access denied errors”. A nasty one is that the file/pathname is too long (>260 characters in Windows 7). You should start to shorten the root folder names as much as possible and bring down the longest path name to well under 260 characters (also including into that calculation the path where you will be copying the files).
    Enjoy!
