Airdisk Inconsistencies

I have an iMac G5 and an iBook G4. I also have two external hard drives (one is a Maxtor and one is an Iomega, both are formatted in HFS+) plugged into a USB hub that is connected to the new Airport Extreme Base Station. The Iomega drive mounts automatically on both machine. The Maxtor only mounts automatically on the iBook. I can manually mount the Maxtor from the iMac but I can't figure out how to make it automatically mount. Any ideas?
I am using the "Secure Shared Disks with base station password" option, no Guest access, "Share disks over Ethernet WAN" and "Advertise disks globally using Bonjour" are both checked.
Let me know if you need more info about my settings.
iMac G5 2.0 GHz / 2 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iBook G4 1.2 GHz / 768 MB RAM

Let me answer my own question - sort of.
I opened the Airport Disk Utility on my iMac and manually mounted the troublesome Maxtor that way. It now works as expected - mounting automatically. While I don't understand why this is the case, I am finding that I need to open the Airport Disk Utility on each of my family's user accounts and manually mount the disks once before they will mount automatically - even if the Mount Disks Automatically box was already checked.
Works great now.

  • 1 AirDisk, 1 Computer, 2 Users Backup to Disk... 1 Problem

I have an iMac with 802.11n and an AirPort Extreme (N) with a USB harddrive plugged into the back. My iMac has two users, myself and my wife. I have .Mac Backup doing daily backups to the AirDisk for both users. (I just backup small stuff like documents, addressbook, mail, and calendar stuff. Nothing too heavy.) Well, the Backup plan for my wife's user is no longer working. My side works still. On my wife's side, Backup is giving me this error message:
An internal application error has occurred. The destination directory /Volumes/AirDisk/Backups/test - 2007.08.09-21.04.53.017.backXX/Contents/Contents could not be created.
    End backup at 2007-08-09 21:04:54.263 -0500
Lovely. The AirDisk is formatted in OS X Extended, we can both still access and edit other files which we keep there. All software is up to date. It's just a matter of Backup apparently not wanting to save my wife's stuff. The weird thing is that everything on my user account is all fine and dandy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    ~rick

I'm having this issue too. It has to do with fast user switching. When you log in, an alias to the AirDisk is placed in /Volumes. When your wife logs in via fast user switching, a second alias is created, named something like "AirDisk-1". This altered alias name causes confusion for Backup. I wish it didn't.
If you log out of your account, and then your wife logs in to hers, her backup should work. Sometimes I have to reboot to clear out all the various aliases. Plus, after time the AEBS stops sharing the AirDisk and I have to reboot it, but that's a separate issue (I think).

  • How do I access my Airdisk from the Internet?

    Hello,
I have been scouring the web for the answer to this, and have found very little, why doesn't Apple help out more with this. They say it is possible, just not how to do it.
My AE is bridged to my ISPs Netgear router which supports dyndns. I've created an account with dyndns.com and when entering the details into my router, it successfully automatically updates it. This is probably the first hurdle in getting web access to my disk that other people may not have? But what do I do next?
I can access my Airdisk within my home network and have told my AE to share and advertise via Bonjour, but are the Bonjour wide-area hostname settings the same settings as my dyndns account? I've read that the hostname is a single name that I've selected on dyndns.com and the domain is dnsalias.net, then Name and Password is the same as my dyndns account?
Thanks very much for your help!

Thanks for letting me know the port, but what I didn't know how to do was actually connect to it. Out of the blue, I tried map network drive at work on a pc to my AEBS at home and wala it worked! I just wish they would post this somewhere! The manual for the AEBS would be a logical place, and yes I have it configured in bridge mode. Is there not a way to connect to AirDisk from Internet Explorer?
Some more things I discovered ON MY OWN since there seems to be ABSOLUTELY no guidance on this ANYWHERE, if somebody knows where, then please do tell:
    1. port 548 (thanks duane) needs to be opened for Apple formatted AirDisks using Apple Filing Protocol on the mac (from Finder, Go, Connect to Server, afp://home network ip or dns name/disk name) or map network drive on the pc:
(2 back slashes, leaning back)home network ip or dns name\disk name
    2. port 445 needs to be opened for Windows formatted AirDisks using Server Message Block on the mac (from Finder, Go, Connect to Server, smb://home network ip or dns name/disk name) or map network drive on the pc:
(2 back slashes, leaning back)home network ip or dns name\disk name (haven't tried this yet, but will shortly)
    3. for guest access (usually read only), you may use guest and nothing for the password to connect to your AirDisk
    4. for user access (usually to write), you may use anything for the username and the disk password you set for the AirDisk to connect
    MAJOR PROBLEM!! >>
I was so psyched to have access to my AirDisk and tried several small files to test it out, no problem. However, when I try to upload .avi files of about 700MB size, I get an error stating that the device is no longer connected either at home or outside of home most of the time completely freezing the AEBS! Is there any size or file type of restrictions with AirDisk?? This is crazy, I get this far and I'm stuck by what appears to be a substandard device!?! I'm using PCs at both places, but it shouldn't matter since the AEBS fully support PCs! Could I possibly be doing something wrong?
    << MAJOR PROBLEM!!
There could be a problem with my AEBS as I wrote in another post, channel 1 of it's wifi appears to be completely inoperable.

  • Airdisks crashing, Finder won't relaunch, only solution is to restart the computer. (Lion)

when I try to delete a folder with a locked file from my AirDisk, I get the spinning beachball and the foce quit won't relaunch the finder. Unplugging the airport doesn't help either. the only thing I can do it restart the computer.

I wasn't able to check this thread (nor retrieve the email) until I got in.
Here's what I did (which, I imagine, is effectively the same as you suggested):
I pushed the power button (although I don't recall if I held it down for any particular length of time),
and after at least an hour I unplugged the power cord from the back and plugged it back in.
Then I pushed the power button again, and it appears to have powered up 'normally'. (I'm not sure I could recognize a difference, if it were subtle.)
My finder bar is again at the top of my screen, where it was originally.
It seems I can do most everything I was unable to do.
So... how do I avoid this in the future?
there is no preventive maintenance for something like this. just don't unplug external devices before finder is finished with them.
OR, Is there something further I should do?
no, you should be fine now.

  • OBIEE 11g:  Inconsistencies with Master-Detail events and Navigate to BI

    Hi everyone,
I'm getting some pretty annoying inconsistencies with the Navigate to BI Content action as well as the Master-Detail events. Basically the main issue I get is that 90% of the time, the click does nothing.
It's a pretty simple setup, I am setting up bulb gauges to act like a fancy column selector. The bulb gauges are setup to pivot based on a Metric Type column. The goal is that if you click on "Metric 1" bulb a trend report should refresh to show Metric 1. If you click on the "Metric 2" bulb, the same trend report will show that metric.
    Here's how I implemented it:
Dashboard Tab A -- Uses Navigate to BI Content
    1) I have a prompt on Fiscal month in dashboard tab A.
    2) I created the bulb gauge and put it in dashboard tab A
    3) Setup the interaction on the bulb measure to navigate back to Dashboard Tab A.
    3) Prompted the trend on Metric Type column and put it in dashboard tab A.
    4) In theory, clicking on the bulb, should navigate back to the same tab and update the trend report appropriately
    5) In reality, nothing happens.
    6) The only way I can get the navigate to work is if I first change the value in the fiscal month prompt and click Go. Then I click on the bulb and the navigation will work ONCE. After that it's broken again.
Dashboard Tab B -- Use Master Detail -Events
    1) Pretty much same situation as dashboard A, but instead of navigate to BI Content, I use the master-detail events.
    2) Pretty much the same results. I cannot get it to consistently work, in fact the trick with the filter didn't do anything.
    3) One thing I tried was cleared my browser history completely (Mozilla Firefox) and then launched the page. It work for about 5 clicks and then stopped.
Either way, neither of these are working properly for me.
Has anyone else had these issues?
    -=Joe
Has anyone else had an issue with this?

So someone explained to me that master-detail events only occur within a single report. They cannot be used to communicate across two different reports.
That is significantly less useful than I originally thought. I honestly that it was a method of communication for one report to update other target reports that are all listening on the same channel. That would have been a powerful feature. A single report refreshing other views in the same report is still useful, but not as much.
That being said, I still don't understand what the heck is going on with the navigate to BI content feature. I've been testing it out. It works with pivot tables and regular tables. But the moment I add a graph, gauge or even a "Filter" view into the dashboard page, the click stops working. Really really strange stuff.

  • Can two computers share same ITunes library over Airdisk?

    Hi all,
I have a Macbook and a PowerPC G5 and a Drobo (external hard drive) hooked up to my AEBS with only ITunes music stored on it.
I want to be able to edit and browse my ITunes library from both my G5 (which I can already do) and my MacBook (which I can't). When I try to change my ITunes library location from within my MacBook, nothing shows up. It's a blank library, even though I can edit and browse the Drobo (as an Airdisk) through the finder. How can I edit and browse my ITunes library from my Macbook if my G5 is also using the same library? Two more quick points...
    1) I have tried the "sharing" feature and don't want to use it. It doesn't allow editing of my library and won't show cover art.
    2) The above situation happens whether my G5 ITunes is open or closed.
    Thanks everybody for your help.

    Ziatron wrote:
Yes, two computers can share the same library.
I periodically copy my iTunes library from my Mac Pro to the Mac Mini.
They aren't using a single library. Each computer is using its own copy and you have two sets of library files.  It can certainly be done that way but if between copy sessions you edit a bit of each library then it is a bit of a muddle trying to make sure your versions are synchronized with each other.  For example, ratings are stored only in the .itl file, so if you rate a song on your second computer it will get lost the next time you copy over from your first.

  • How do I use Time Machine on my Mac to back up files stored on an AirDisk?

I have a Macbook Pro 17-inch, Mid 2009, with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I use an external HDD connected directly to my Mac via FireWire 800 for Time Machine backups. I have an external HDD connected to my Airport Extreme (Gigabit) router that I use for file storage. My iTunes library and iPhoto library are both stored on this AirDisk. Can I use Time Machine on my Mac to back up the files that I store on my AirDisk? If so, then please describe how to do so. Thank you for your assistance.

Unmount and physcially disconnect the TimeMachine drive and reboot the computer without it being connected.
Reboot the comptuer with the disk inside the machine holding the option or c key down, select the disk to boot from.
Second screen in is the installer, under the Ulitites menu is Disk Utility.
Use  Disk Utility to Erase with Security option Zero all Data if your planning to wipe the drive and install 10.6
Don't do the above if your simply reinstalling only OS X 10.6 to cure a problem with it.

  • (2) version of Airdisk, Time Machine no longer backs up to original

I was playing around with airport utility for my Airport Extreme to open up a port for Air Video to work. After a few restarts, I now get a second version of my attached airdisk with a (2) after it as seen here: http://cl.ly/363F3T1Q3R38110j1h0l
I can no longer connect to the original one (without the 2) and my Time Machine won't connect because its technically a "different" drive as seen here
http://cl.ly/361F2y3a3y2l3a1T1m32 . I could tell Time Machine to use the new one, but quite frankly, I don't want this rogue version of my airdisk there. Is there a plist file that I can trash to hopefully rebuild that list so only one shows up and Time Machine can resume its normal back-ups? Any other suggestions? Has this been answered in another thread?
Any and all help is appreciated.

I ended up answering my own question, but I thought I'd put what worked for me here in case anyone else has a similar problem.
First, in my messing around to get Air Video to work I had changed my Mac's connection from Ethernet to Wireless. Not sure if this had a large impact on the Airdisk, but it may have been the cause of it getting a different IP address because of its different connection type. I set my Mac back to Ethernet. Air Video still worked, so all was well. Now, I didn't immediately try to connect to the original Airdisk, but it may, at that point, have worked.
Second, I went into the Airport Utility and manually changed an option then changed it right back, just so the utility would ask me to update the router. It did, and when my Mac reconnected, voilá, only the original Airdisk was listed in the Shared sidebar of finder. Time Machine is backing up as we speak.

  • FI-New GL Issue - Inconsistencies in time of creation in Table FAGLFLEXA an

    Hi,
We are facing the following issue in ECC 5.0 with New GL Active
When a journal entry is created, the current time is captured (EST) at the header level of the document and is available in the BKPF table. The same document is also updated in FAGLFLEXA table. However, in this table the current EST time is not shown as the time at which the document posted. It is showing corresponding GMT time.
So for example if the document is created at 13:00:00 EST, in BKPF the time shown is 13:00:00. However in the FAGLFLEXA table, for the same document, the time stamp is 18:00:00. (which happens to be GMT time).
This is resulting in inconsistencies with respect to BW extraction.
All the configuration relating to time zone at the general settings level are set to EST.
If any of you have faced this issue and resolved it, please inform as to how you had resolved it.
    Regards
    Kiran I

    Hi,
Use the safety interval (lower limit) as a buffer.
Safety interval = Difference ( EST - GMT) + Actual safety interval (example 1800 s).
    Hope this helps.
    Kind Regards,
    Kurt

  • How i fixed my Airport ** dodgy connection**Airdisks**

Since the upgrade to leopard i was plagued with connection issues : dropping, slow, no reconnect after sleep and plenty more.
Also my airdisks would not connect after sleep and a restart was the only way to sort it.
In the end i took the AEBS firmware back to 7.1 by selecting 'Base Station>Upload firmware' in the airport utility.
With this done i also ran the patch for VMware Fusion
    http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/811177-4082/vmnet_fix .zip
EVERYTHING IS NOW PERFECT!!!! Weeks of frustration is at an end!!! Whoo Hoo!

If you lose after sleep, that often means that the default network it is trying to connect to is not setup in the network preferences.
    If you go to:
Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Network -> change Network Status to Airport, and By default Join Preferred networks, and delete all the networks, and only add the network with the correct username and password for your network, usually that will fix the network so that it only goes to that network after it wakes from sleep. Sometimes if the network settings become corrupted, it is best to clear the preferred networks, and start fresh.

  • Can't copy files to airdisk; airdisk usage causes time capsule to restart

    i have the following; leopard 10.5.3, airport utility 7.3.1, western digital 1tb fat32 formatted mybook essential; airport express (joined to network on time capsule); 500gb time capsule, macbook pro;
my problems are as follows. keep in mind that i have toyed w/ all setting on time capsule and seem to get varying degrees of failure.
1- preparing for backup can take up to 30 mins. i am backing up manually, not every hour. not sure if this is really a problem or not, but i don't mind it as i just want to kick off a backup before bed.
2- this is the real problem. for the airdisk. i have files/folder w/ read write access (for me, everyone and staff). i can occasionally get a file to copy over, but most of the time it looks like the file is copying, and then it fails w/ insufficient privileges for some of the items). then i'm left w/ some files that are zero size, and i can't delete b/c i don't have sufficient privileges for those files. sometimes a restart of the laptop causes these files to disappear.
3- sometimes accessing the airdisk causes the server to either disconnect, or the airdisk to fail to mount. again, this is hit or miss.
i didn't have these problems copying stuff before 10.5.3.
i have toyed w/ permissions on my home folder, giving everyone read write access. i hope this won't mess anything up.
please help. i want to love my new mac, but not being able to copy a simple mp3 to airdisk is killing me. i have toyed w/ all options on airdisk, and none seem to help.
    thanks for your time.

    Yes, it's formatted as HFS+.
Just to make sure, I've unplugged it from the Time Capsule & plugged it into the USB port of my Mac again & it works fine like this. But now I've plugged it back into the Time Capsule it's now working fine. Strange.

None of the files I've tried to copy over have long filenames. In fact just to test it I created a text file & saved it with only 2 letters as the filename, & still get the same problem trying to copy to the AirDisk.
    Can anyone help?

  • Airport Extreme, Airdisk, and Vista - large file problem with a twist

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem moving large-ish files to an external drive attached to my Airport Extreme SOMETIMES. Let me explain.
My system - Macbook Pro, 4gb ram, 10gb free HD space on macbook, running latest updates for mac and vista, external hard drive on AE is an internal WD in an enclosure w/ 25gb free (its formatted for pc, but I've used it directly connected to multiple computers, mac and pc, without fail), AE is using firmware 7.3.2, and im only allowing 802.11n. The problem occurs on the Vista side - havent checked the mac side yet.
The Good - I have bit torrents set up, using utorrent, to automatically copy files over to my airdisk once they've completed. This works flawlessly. If i connect the hard drive directly to my laptop (macbook running bootcamp w/ vista, all updates applied), large files copy over without a hitch as well.
The Bad - For the past couple weeks (could be longer, but I've just noticed it recently being a problem - is that a firmware problem clue?) If i download the files to my Vista desktop and copy them over manually, the copy just sits for a while and eventually fails with a "try again" error. If i try to copy any file over 300mb, the same error occurs.
What I've tried - well, not a lot. The first thing i did was to make sure my hard drive was error free, and worked when physically connected - it is and it did. I've read a few posts about formatting the drive for mac, but this really isnt a good option for me since all of my music is on this drive, and itunes pulls from it (which also works without a problem). I do however get the hang in itunes if i try to import large files (movies). I've also read about trying to go back to an earlier AE firmware, but the posts were outdated. I can try the mac side and see if large files move over, but again, i prefer to do this in windows vista.
this is my first post, so im sure im leaving out vital info. If anyone wants to take a stab at helping, I'd love to discuss. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Just noticed the other day that I am having the same problem. I have two Vista machines attached to TC w/ a Western Digital 500 gig USB'd. I can write to the TC (any file size) with no problem, however I cannot write larger files to my attached WD drive. I can write smaller folders of music and such, but I cannot back up larger video files. Yet, if I directly attach the drive to my laptop I can copy over the files, no problem. I could not find any setting in the Airport Utility with regards to file size limits or anything of the like. Any help on this would be much appreciated.
