Airplay device network connection refused

Airplay via airport express working fine suddenly connection dropped and error message 65568 Airplay device network connection refused

I am also having the same problem. This occurred the first time about 6 months ago. I called customer support and they reset my account or something. It's been working fine until today. The same problem is occurring again. I called customer support and this time they told me they couldn't help because my iPod warranty had expired 61 days ago, unless I wanted to pay $29.99. Any suggestions for what to do besides paying them $29.99 that I really can't afford?

You disabled everything using MSConfig and the network connection was still refused? That's odd.
There may be some issue with your ISP, then. Do you have the ability to connect to the internet a different way, like a wireless access point? The fact that your connection was refused as opposed to simply timed out makes me think that there's something that is actively preventing iTunes from connecting to the iTunes Store.

See if this helps in your situation:
OK, all you people all over the world who have been having the same problem as me for weeks, months, a lifetime, here it is! If your warning/error reads "iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was refused" and then the BS about checking to make sure your connection is active, well I found something on a forum at Digg.com that with one click WORKED LIKE MAGIC and I'm a happy camper now, rockin to stuff I finally got from the store.
Now before I print the fix, my previous situation was: I could connect to the Apple store site for products, etc. and could check my account, but I could not connect to the music store at all. In every other way, my internet connectivity was flawless. I tried to solve the problem, shut down every firewall or antivirus program I had, searched forums, fiddled with the registry (and THAT was a stupid move!), reinstalled itunes like HOW MANY TIMES, and even finally got a written email reply from iTunes support when I waah.., waah..., waah..ed long enough and they gave an answer that was WORSE than useless. Months passed. So if the above in total or in part describes you, her it is. It's safe and if it doesn't work, you can put things back the way they were without any problem.
This is the quote from the forum at Digg.com that did it for me:
"figured out the problem thanks to Peter on the badapple forums, in his great assistance:
"In your windows\system32\drivers\etc directory there is a file called hosts. Open it in notepad. You will see a line
    127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
place a # in front of that line so that it looks like this:
    #127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
and save the file. your problem should be resolved!"
That's it guys and gals. Also you might be sure that the phobos.apple.com domain is specifically allowed by your firewall/A-V software. Let me know if it helped!

SUCCESS!!! I tried many variations on this and it finally worked. Yes, as life4living says, you have to open the "hosts" file that you can find in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
    ... use NotePad ...
At the bottom of the file, I found
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    and nothing about phobos.
AFter many attempts, I changed the end of the HOSTS file to this:
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # 127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
and now iTunes music store and podcasts open up just fine.
Strange. The # character means "this is a comment" - so it's basically the same as removing the line completely.
The address 127.0.0.1 means "my machine" and this address is used by other apps such as Google Desktop. Hatching it out, however, does not adversely affect Google Desktop. So basically you have to hatch out any 127.0.0.1 address in the HOSTS file and then iTunes will work!
    Try it...
(I did, also, add phobos.apple.com to my "trusted sites" in Internet Explorer settings, but I don't think this was essential.)
After performing the above I found it only worked once after rebooting. I uninstalled Spybot Search and Destroy because it wouldn’t maintain some of the start up settings and cookies were getting nuked by another program I have in start up (Windows Washer).
Some other threads said to check firewall settings. I have free AVG. I went in and okay’d anything to do with iTunes. I also added the iTunes program to the list of approved processes in the AVG list and it seems iTunes is now working! Hope this helps!

    It's for windows.
    1. Press the Start Button in the (default) bottom
    left hand corner.
    2. Click on "My Computer".
    3. Click on (Default) C:.
    4. Find "WINDOWS" and open.
    5. Find "system 32" and open.
    6. Find "drivers" and open.
    7. Find "ect" and open.
    8. Find "hosts" and open.
    9. For a XP, a popup will open and show options to
    open it in.
    10. Select "Notepad" or "Word" or what ever you use
    for writing a document.
    11. At the bottom, if it says "127.0.0.1 localhost"
C&P This Over the 127.0.0.1 localhost:
    #127.0.0.1 localhost
    #127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com
    If it only has 127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com, add a "#"
    at the beginning.
    12. Restart your computer.
    Hope that helps!

    This helped my error! Thanx!

  • Network Connection Refused - Help

When I try to connect to the music store I receive an error message that says "iTunes could not connect to the music store. The network connection was refused." It further suggests that I check my network settings to see if they are active and correct. I have full access to the internet, which I would think would be the thing preventing me from connecting to the music store. I have not added a firewall; I have not added Service Pack 2; I have not changed ISPs, or changed any other thing that I can think of (or, more accurately, I have a firewall and Service Pack 2, but I had them before I ever used iTunes and was able to access the music store just fine with them in place). I have re-downloaded iTunes a few times but the same error message comes up. Does anyone have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate some assistance.

I decided to respond to my own post. I looked at all of the other posts having the same problem and followed all of the advice. I shut off firewalls and pinged phobos and checked servers and everything. Finally I uninstalled itunes altogether and installed version 6.0.1. After I did that, I was able to access the music store immediately. Now, this doesn't rule out a firewall problem, but it leads me think it is an Apple problem rather than a everyone else and their firewall problem. I would love to continue downloading new versions of iTunes, but I won't do so until the majority of the posts on this discussion group stop wondering why they "mysteriously" can no longer connect to the music store.

  • Network Connection Refused

I have looked and have not found an answer that fits my issue. I am using itunes 7.4.2
My podcasts wont download .. "network connection was refused"
I cannot play itunes radio .. "check your internet connection"
no itunes store .. "network connection was refused"
i cannot log in, update album artwork, get track names, or anything else.
I can access the internet (i am right now), i have accessed all of the above at school, home, and every were else while online in the past. This has only been going on for the past few days. It has worked every where in the past, it works no where now. One thread suggested changing my payment options, i went onto my wife's mac and did that...nothin.
I found an older version of itunes and installed that in place of 7.4.2 and no improvement.
in addition, i just tried to do a software update, and it said "cannot connect to the update server." I ran the diagnostic and i think my computer is confused because it am connected to the internet.
    humph.

You may have fixed this by now, but I stumbled across it when I was encountering the same issue.
Do you have an HTTP or HTTPS proxy set in System Preferences? That's the problem I was having -- I had a proxy set for HTTPS for some testing, and I forgot to turn it off. The proxy wasn't working. Apple products like Safari and iTunes respect that setting, but Firefox does not (it has its own proxy settings). So, you might check that to see if you're having the same problem.
Now to figure out why I'm getting an error updating my billing info...

  • Why is my network connection refused?

    Hi all,
So I'm using microsoft and I have updated my version of itunes etc., and I haven't been able to log into the music store in over a month. It keeps telling me that my network connection is refused. Nothing has really changed from when it worked last. Seems like a lot of people are encountering this. Can someone tell me what to do about it? Thank you!!!!!!!

Everything else works well and has not ever been affected, just itunes. I've got a cable connection, e mail works etc.
Thank you for responding to me, I didn't know anyone had!

  • Network Connection Refused-why?

Trying to connect to the iTunes store gives me a message saying my network connection was refused. I'm travelling internationally right now, could that have anything to do with it? Also on a new machine, which when I try to authorize it in iTunes, I get the same message.
    PC   Windows XP Pro

Most likely there's some firewall or other security blocking connection to the iTunes Store. Check with whoever set up the Internet connection you're using and ask. You may need to refer them to this site:
"Well Known" TCP and UDP Ports Used By Apple Software Products
Also, at minimum, these two domains need to be exempted from any Internet filtering:
    phobos.apple.com
    phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes cannot connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection refused

I guess this ends my relationship with the itunes store. Cannot connect despite following the boards recommended fixes, certificate changes, clock changes.
anyone else having issues connecting to the itunes store?

SO we rule out Winsock provider issue.
Can you try these entries in command prompt (Run as Administrator for Win7/Vista) one at a time?
    ipconfig /release
    then
    ipconfig /renew
    restart computer
    ipconfig /flushdns
totally shut down computer then restart.
    netsh winsock reset all
    restart computer
Now test your iTunes again. If that does not work, uninstall your Antivirus program and test again.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

I have the same problem - did you solve it?

  • An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Stereo Airport Express G". The network connection failed.

When attempting to play iTunes 11.1.2 music wirelessly from my Mac Mini to stereo speakers connected to an AE "G" I get the following message: An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Stereo Airport Express G”.   However, when I attempt to play internet radio from an iPod Touch wirelessly to the same speakers connected to the same AE "G", it works fine.
Finally, when I swap out the "G" for an AE "N" connected to the same speakers Airplay works fine, both from the Mini and the iPod.
Why would the iPod connection work while the Mini connection not?

I have what sounds like a very similar issue.
I had my Denon 3312ci working perfectly with Airplay from my 2013 iMac running iTunes. Upgraded to iTunes 11.1.3, and now when I attempt to Airplay direct from iTunes to the 3312, it plays for about half a second and then stops. Displayed on the Amp then says "Assigning Network". The amp starts dropping ping packets at this point. About 15-20 seconds later the pings start coming back, but no Airplay.
I tried different network cables, resetting the microprocessor, a different switch, changing between DHCP and static IP. Was about to make a warranty call to Denon, when I thought maybe I should try Airplaying directly from iphone and ipad. Much to my surprise, it worked from those devices.
I prefer to use my iMac to Airplay rather than ipad/iphone as I found I got next to no audio drop outs using it that way (they are both using wired network), where as ipad/iphone occasionally would get a moment of silence in the middle of a song.
My network set up is fine. I can use internet radio and connect to DLNA services fine on the amp. It is just airplay between iTunes 11.1.3 and the amp where the issue lies.
No fixes as yet, but I have logged a support call with Denon Australia to see what they say.

  • Airplay Connection issues - An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "x". The network connection failed.

I recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, and got my Airport Express (802.11g) out of the closet and set up an AirPlay network for my speakers.
All worked well for the first while, but recently I've been having an inconsistent problem with this: "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “my network name”. The network connection failed."
Since it came up, more often than not, I can't connect.
I can play without issue from my iPhone, and from my iPad.
I looked around these forums, and found a couple threads dealing with this from 2011, with no clear resolution to them.  No one with Mountain Lion seems to complain about it, though a few people mused about whether Mountain Lion might fix the problem.
I'm running iTunes 10.7(21), and don't recall doing any upgrades to it that might have brought this about, though I can't say for sure.
My Airport Express is updated to firmware version 6.3, which I believe is the last one issued for the 'g' Airport Express.
My wireless network runs off an Airport Extreme 802.11n (Second Generation) with verion 7.6.1 firmware.
My Mac has 10.8.2 on it right now.
Hopefully some of that info might help sort this out - any replies greatly appreciated!

One quick update.  A workaround that was mentioned in one post did seem to work - if music is started via the Remote app it seems to connect fine.
And I'm not sure if I dare upgrade to iTunes 11 given the firestorm of bad impressions I see, including some that relate to Airplay functions...

  • Getting "There are no speakers connected to the AirPlay device " device-name "

For the past several years, I have had a stereo receiver hooked up to and airport express to stream music wirelessly from my iMac to stereo speakers.  All of a sudden, I started getting the message "There are no speakers connected to the AirPlay device "<device-name>".  So, what changed, we recently changed ISP from Verizon DSL to RCN cable, I changed my Apple ID (due to the ISP change), I upgraded all computers to OS X Lion, and I have a new iPhone5.  I can't tell you exactly when during the process things went bad, but I can tell you what I have done to solve the problem:
I checked that my devices are configured correctly. The network layout is as follows: I have an Airport Express on the 3rd floor of my house, along with the iMac containing the iTunes library, I have an Airport Express on the 2nd floor acting as a repeater, I have an Airport Express on the 1st floor acting as a repeater and connected to my stereo receiver and 4 speakers.  I control which set of speakers is "on" via the receiver.
I checked that I can get sound out of the speakers via the receiver by selecting FM and got radio to play, so I believe the receiver is ok.
I swapped this receiver with another receiver and got no sound and still the message "there are no speakers connected..."
I moved the Airport Express from the AUX port to the TAPE2 port to check the port.  Still no sound.
I checked the cable with a Bose box and got sound, so I believe the cable is ok.
I plugged a headset directly into the Airport Express and got no sound.
I swapped the 2nd floor and 1st floor Airport Express units, reconfigured the new 1st floor unit to turn on Air Play and still get no sound and the error message.
I am controlling the music using the Remote app on my iPhone.  I have configured the new device to use this library.
I am tired, confused and at a loss.  What can be going on here?

All that I can suggest is that you perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express to wipe the current settings and set it up again.
If you are still having problems after that, you need to take the Express to an Apple Store or Apple Servicer near you to let them have a look at what I suspect is a defective AirPort Express.
