Airport KPs in Leopard!

Just got my copy of Leopard and, unfortunately, I keep getting the same Kernel Panic.
If i recall correctly, in all of the instances I had my USB WD External connected and all or most of the following apps running:
-Azureus
-Parallels
-Firefox
-NetNewsWire
-Adium
-iChat
My bandwidth would drop to zero, as indicated by Azureus speeds and Firefox hanging on page loading. This had happened to me occasionally on 10.4.10 and to solve it I would click the Airport on the Status Bar, and reselect my ALREADY CONNECTED network. I immediately attempted to click the active/connected Airport icon on the Status bar in 9A581 in order to try to reselect my network, as I did in 10.4.10; however, this repeatedly caused a Kernel Panic. Again, the Kernel Panics have occured only in this exact fassion; immediately with the click of the Airport icon. (On 2nd thought, I once tried to open the Network tab in System Pref and the same KP occured)
Here is a crash report of the KP:

  • Airport Express: Snow Leopard 10.6.3 / Vista Home Premium / connect problem

    I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3 running on my Mac Pro, and I have an Airport Express for the little wireless network I am trying to set up....
    ...I can get my iPhone to connect - that was easy!
    The problem:
    My girlfriend is running Vista Home Premium on her HP laptop. She cannot connect to my network:
    a) actually it comes up on her computer as being "connected to an unidentified network"
    and
    b) she continues to get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" when she tries to connect to the internet.
    Any ideas?
    1) Is there a connection problem between Vista and Airport Express / Snow Leopard?
    2) Anything special I need to do to let a Windows (or Vista specifically) computer connect?

    Possible risks after someone cracked the password and connects to your Wifi:
    - Someone could sniff passwords when the password is transmitted in plain text (e.g. check for mails with POP)
    - Someone could access shares that are not password protected
    - Illegal use of your internet connection
    But I don't know how likely that is. Your decision.
    However, we now identified the Windows Vista Wifi settings as the source of the problem.
    You can now play around with the different encryption settings in the AX and identify when Vista starts to not connect.
    I now remember that I had to add the Wifi settings to Vista manually for WPA2 Personal (WPK) as the system messed it up when I connected with a click and provided the password. So if you want to try WPA2 delete the profile in Vista, probably restart and then add all the Wifi settings manually instead of clicking on an identified network. Vista is definitely able to use WPA2, so there should be no need to toggle between WPA2 and WEP once you configured Vista correctly.

  • If you watch movies on your airport disk on leopard

    Please tell me whether your movie is well streamed or not, if you watch movies on your airport disk on leopard.
    I used to watch movies on my air disk when it was Tiger, but on leopard it's all laggy now and I can't watch one... I want to find out if my AEBS is faulty, or it's a general problem.
    Thanks!

  • MBP Santa Rosa Airport Issues w/ Leopard

    Hi everyone,
    I've noticed a few "quirks" since upgrading to Leopard. Whenever my Macbook Pro (Santa Rosa, 2.4 GHz, 17", 4GB RAM) is searching for a wireless network to join, the system becomes completely unresponsive. The mouse pointer stutters and jumps around the screen and it's impossible to precisely control its movement. When I can finally manage to click on the Airport icon in the menu bar and select the appropriate network to join, the problems stop as soon as a connection to a wireless network is established. It only happens when the system is searching for a Network. I should mention that it does this when I am at work (where I connect via 802.1x and TTLS) and at home (where I connect via an Airport Express Router).
    Also, my computer no longer automatically connects to my work network (it does at home, though) after a restart or waking from sleep). I have my MBP set to prompt me for a password when it wakes from sleep, but it's near next to impossible to enter in the password because the system hangs so badly as it tries to establish a network connection. Of course, it doesn't connect unless I manage to click the Airport icon and specify the network I wish to join. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
    All of this is a little frustrating since the latest updates to Airport in Tiger fixed all of the connection issues I had had previously with my MBP. When I first bought the machine I had many issues with network connections (as did many thousands of others who bought this model). I was wondering if other MBP Santa Rosa owners have observed similar behavior since upgrading to Leopard, and if so, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this issue?
    I should also mention that my Mac Mini C2D 1.83GHz (latest model) has no such issues so I think this is something that is still linked to this particular model of MBP.
    Many thanks!

    I am moving this over here, from the boot camp section. Hopefully this is more the location that this needs to be in. Well, my problem is not as extreme as some, but still an annoyance. I installed Leopard the first day, and immediately had HUGE airport issues. The computer would lose my hub. I run an Airport Extreme with an Express as a WDS. The computer would see the express, but lose the extreme completely. So no internet. If I messed with it long enough, I could get the computer to recognize the extreme, but as soon as the computer went to sleep, it would lose it again. I installed the keychain update, and the situation didn't get much better. Most of the time I get the "You are not connected to the Internet" error in Safari, and when I run network diagnostics the computer "finds" the internet again, and I get a "Network configuration change detected" message and all my lights go green.
    After I installed the Keychain update, I repaired disk permissions. Any ideas?

  • HP c5280 won't work with airport on Snow Leopard

    I have a HP C5280 connected via USB to an airport express unit. It's worked flawlessly on Leopard, but now that I've upgraded to SL, I get a message "Unable to open printer (read failure)!". If I connect my MacBook Pro directly via USB to the printer, it works fine.
    Another oddity. My wife's Mac (still running Tiger) is also connected to the printer via our Airport network. I can connect to the printer through her computer and print out!
    I've been in contact with HP, de-installed and re-installed all of their preferences, drivers, etc., but to no avail.
    Appreciate any suggestions.
    //Rick

    Rick,
    Question: on your Snow Leopard machine, does your printer appear under USB printers attached to the Express?
    After all of your dealings with the drivers, preferences, etc, combined with the fact that directly connecting with the printer is successful, I suspect that the problem may lie with the Airport Express.
    Whenever I have problems with my Airports, 9 out of 10 times it has to do with a firmware issue. This is especially true when some Macs can connect, while others (running different versions of OS X) cannot.
    My advice would be to check to see if the Airport Express is running the latest firmware. I would use Airport Utility on wife's computer to access the Airport Express and run a firmware update check. Also, it may behoove you to do a hard reset after saving all of your settings and setting the Airport up from scratch (this, too, has worked for me from time-to-time; in particular, after a power irregularity in our building).
    As a quasi-side note, I have so many Macs running different versions of OS X and Airports strung together, that the easiest way I found to avoid problems similar to yours was to use one Mac (the one kept on most of the time) plugged into our office printer with printer sharing enabled.

  • Worse signal with Airport Graphite after Leopard upgrade

    I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Leopard. Since then, I havent been able to get a full signal with my Airport Graphite. I've read the posts here about Leopard and Airport graphite's inability to be detected by the airport utility program. The same thing has happened to me. I tried resetting my airport base station but even that i couldnt do. Please help

    that does make sense, that it could be the old ones.
    BUT - people are having tons of wireless problems with NEW airport extremes,
    airport express, and other manufacturer's wireless routers, too. There are numerous posts on the forums about all kinds of wireless issues with Leopard.

  • Unable to access shared USB Disks on Airport Extreme using Leopard

  • AirPort, iTunes and Leopard

    Ok, I have some issues with my new iMac with leopard.
    1. I had gotten quite used to using my home stereo and the apple remote to play music while using 10.4... It seems with Leopard I'm unable to change the setting of 'Computer Speakers' or my AirPort home speakers while using the remote, as you can in iTunes. This is very frustrating, as the remote and home audio was one of my favorite features.
    2. My minimized iTunes window seems goofy. Sometimes it works, but mostly it doesn't. I'm unable to pause or play music using the mouse, I have to either use the keyboard, or open the iTunes window completely. And sometimes when I open it from minimized, the window is stuck to my mouse and goes all over the place.
    Thanks if anyone could help me out!

  • Not seeing Airport Express after Leopard Upgrade

    Just upgraded by macbook to leopard, and now it's not seeing my airport express base station. the card is working fine (sees and connects to other networks) and the base station itself is connected to the internet (iphone can access it). when i turn airport off then on, system preferences will show my network as connected briefly before disconnecting, and after that i can't connect to my network again. airport utility does not see the base station.

    Perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express as follows:
    Power off the Express
    Wait a minute
    Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding for an additional 10 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
    Release the reset button after the hold period
    Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    On the iMac running Leopard.....
    Make sure that you have the wireless turned on at the top of the screen so your Mac is connected to the network
    Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    When the Express appears in the window, click Continue
    Enter a name for the Express and a device password, then click Continue
    Select the option to Join your current network, then click Continue
    Select the option for the Express to wirelessly join your network and click Continue
    Click on the arrow in the drop down box and then select the name of your wireless network, or type in the name of your wireless network
    Wireless Security = WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Enter your wireless network password and verify, then click Continue
    Click Update, then click Continue
    Close AirPort Utility and wait a minute for the Express to restart. If your settings are correct, you will see a green light.
    The Express is now set up

  • Airport crashes with Leopard after waking from Sleep mode

    So I've always had airport issues (1st gen intel) and I was hoping Leopard might help, but now my airport shuts down every time the computer sleeps and it cannot be turned on. I have to shut down the comupter and turn it back on (restart doesn't work).
    Any ideas?

    I spoke with Tech Support this morning. Apparently this is a known issue with Lion. I found it interesting that the rep insisted on saying that "it is the way Lion functions" instead of admitting that it is a GLITCH in the programming. He even said that it happens randomly and not on all computers and not all users experience this. That ought to tell you that it's a glitch.  Anyway, there is a "workaround" which is what you do to put a bandage on a persistent wound that should really get surgically stitched:
    You either have to log out every time you leave the laptop, or you have to change Energy saver preference to set the display to go to sleep AFTER the computer is set to log out (in Security preferences).
    Here is the article that instructs us on applying the bandage::
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4135?viewlocale=en_US
    Suffice it to say that Apple does not plan on stitching this one up any time soon..

  • Problem with airport after snow leopard upgrade.

    I know there are several threads about this already but none of the "answers" to those threads fix my problem. I just upgraded snow leopard and installed the new update. Since then I can connect to my wifi, but nothing will load. My airport says that I am connected and that I have a full signal, but whenever I open my internet browser (firefox, safari), nothing will load, it just stays on the screen that says "loading" at the top. I've tried deleting the "Automatic" airport option and creating my own but that has not worked. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?? Right now the only way i can access the internet is be plugging directly into the router.

    Hi swftrules,
    It's probably worth trying just to ensure that the issue is (or isn't) location specific. Preferably to go somewhere that you've never connected before and has free WiFi without crazy encryption. An Apple Store is a great location to try.
    If it does work at the new location, I'd be inclined to reset the router and set it back up (open network) and see if that works and then add encryption from there.
    If it doesn't work at the new location, then I'd consider reloading the OS if you've already tried the new network location.

  • Problems adding Canon Pixma MP 610 through airport express with Leopard

    Just bought a Pixma MP610 printer and would like to connect it as a printer (I realise scanning won't work) through my airport express box. I plugged it in and tried to add a new printer through the system pref panel. It said it was searching for new drivers and then crashed. This happens everytime I try to add a printer, even over a standard usb connection.
    I managed to add the printer and get it running over a normal USB connection by downloading and installing the drivers from the canon website but when plugged into the airport, it will come up with a communication error and fail to print.
    Can anyone help me out? Or am I doomed to having to take my laptop to the printer everytime I want to print?

    The following details my procedure for repairing faulty installations of the Canon PIXMA drivers. Note that this is for direct USB connections. I suggest you follow this with the direct connection first and if it works then connect it to your Airport and see if the error occurs again. Note also that there may be updates for the Express that are needed for Leopard compatibility, so check the downloads site.
    1. Remove the current printer queue. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Highlight the Canon printer in the Printer list and click the minus ( - ) button.
    2. Hold Control key and click in the empty Printers list. Click on Reset Printing System.
    3. Close Print & Fax
    4. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinter folder.
    5. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the Canon driver package file, if one exists. The file name will show Canon MP610 xxx.pkg
    6. Go to Library > Preferences and delete the Canon folder.

  • Original Airport Card and Leopard

    I have a Power Mac G4 (Dual 1.25 GHz)
    I have the original airport card in picking up a wireless signal from my basement - and I am two floors up. When I had Tiger - I had no problems. With Leopard, I am not getting a full signal - according to the status bar - and sometimes I can't open certain webpages - saying I can't connect to the server. Any chance Apple can fix this?

    I called my service provider (Verizon FIOS internet) - they said it was a Mac issue and to call Mac. I know that is useless since the issue of the original airport cards struggling with Leopard is out there. My problem isn't connecting and getting on the internet. When I first boot up - it takes a few minutes to get a website to come out - and every so often I won't be able to get on a website. It says I am not connected to the internet and cannot get on the server for that website (google or apple for example) - yet I can get to another site.

  • Airport Admin with Leopard

    How can I administrate my old Airport base stations with Leopard? it does not come with the Airport Admin utility and the app that is there in Utilities does not work with the old Snow Base Stations?.... Any ideas?

    Have you tried AirPort Admin Utility version 4.2? Tiger didn't necessarily come with it either, but it still works with Tiger.
    If you don't have AirPort Admin Utility version 4.2, you can get it this way*:
    . Go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport42formacosx1033.html;
    . Download a disk image named "AirPortSW42.dmg";
    . If the installer launches, quit the installer;
    . Double-click the disk image to mount a volume named "AirPort 4.2 Update";
    . Within the AirPort 4.2 Update window, ctrl-click on "AirPortSW.pkg";
    . Select "Show Package Contents";
    . Open the "Contents" folder;
    . Double-click the "Archive.pax.gz" file, which causes an "Archive.pax" file and an "Archive" folder to be extracted;
    . Open the "Archive" folder, the "Applications" folder within it, and the "Utilities" folder within that.
    The AirPort Admin Utility is there. Discard everything else that was downloaded, as it probably will not work with your system. (AirPort Setup Assistant version 4.2 does not even work with Tiger.)
    *At least, this is how to get the utility using the Finder in Tiger. I imagine that the process would be the same in Leopard.
