AIToolboxSuite::AddToolbox seems to cause malloc break. (OSX, CS6)

Hi all,
I'm trying to write something that detects when tools are selected and deselected using AIToolboxSuite, but am running into an issue where I get the following error when I call AIToolboxSuite::AddToolbox
Adobe Illustrator(20630,0x7fff73fe1180) malloc: *** error for object 0x8: pointer being freed was not allocated
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
Here's the code below.  I'm calling this in my plugin's PostStartup method, but the issue seems to happen even if I move this code to another section (e.g. when my plugin is selected)
Usually I notice the following during runtime: AddToolbox is called, I see a bunch of messages (including toolbox messages) start coming in (I have some debug print statements on Plugin::Message)), but before the AddToolbox call is finished, the malloc error occurs. So far I'm stumped as to what could be not allocated on my end.
The error as a screenshot is below - note the tool selected message gets called (I have some basic if statements to filter it / print a message) before the issue occurs:
API Version : Adobe Illustrator CS6 SDK Build 682.6.1.6.1.1.0.0.0.1.1
Illustrator version: 16.0.0
OSX Version: Mountain Lion

in case the code image is hard to read, here it is:
        //Start watching tool selections
            int count;
            ASErr toolMsgInitResult = kNoErr;
            toolMsgInitResult = sAIToolbox->CountToolboxes(&count);
            aisdk::check_ai_error(toolMsgInitResult);
            if(count > 0){
                NSLog(@"grabbing toolbox");
                toolMsgInitResult = sAIToolbox->GetNthToolbox(0, &fToolboxHandle);
                aisdk::check_ai_error(toolMsgInitResult);
                if((fToolboxHandle != NULL) )
                    toolMsgInitResult = sAIToolbox->AddToolbox(fPluginRef, "SDK Annotator", &fToolboxHandle);
                    aisdk::check_ai_error(toolMsgInitResult);
                NSLog(@"grabbed toolbox");
            else {
                NSLog(@"no toolbox yet");

  • Pre-n enabler seems to cause issues with lock up/beach ball

    I just received my new C2D MBP yesterday with 3G of RAM and all was peachy. I decided to install the $1.99 Pre-N enabler patch from Apple and it appears that I'm not alone in having that cause system lock ups and beach balls from ****.
    I unfortunately seem to be in the same boat. It runs for awhile and then all of a sudden it will just lock up and I'll get the spinning beach ball from **** forever, until I reboot.
    I'm using mine with a NetGear Pre-N wireless router and while I'm getting 140kpbs connections I am getting a lot of receive errors and the machine just goes off to la-la land.
    I was worried about something else until I read these posts over in Internet & Networking and now I'm wondering if there really is an issue with whatever the "enabler" did. It ceratinly appears to be this. Nothing else seems to cause it this kind of beach ball death.
    So now I guess we need to look for an "un-enabler" patch. Just out of curiosity where do we email problems like this to get resolved?
    UGGHHHHHHH!!!
    Peter

    I have this same problem. I reported a bug to apple bug id#4990056
    Here is what i wrote:
    10-Feb-2007 10:36 PM Brooks Roy:
    Summary:
    I recently got a Linksys WRT350N 802.11n router and using it with my macbook pro core 2 duo. The router is firmware version 1.03.2.
    After installing the enabler from the apple site i verified it upgraded properly and it shows a/b/g/n for my airport card. However the computer has been locking up more and more. I finally narrowed it down to the airport card. Here is what happens:
    Steps to Reproduce:
    With regular airport usage, the mac will all of the sudden give the spinning 'beach ball' and just sit there. A simple http download will stop and the mac will become unresponsive. I cannot launch new applications. The icons will bounce in the dock but never open. I cannot force-quit any applications. My only option is to hold down the power button for a hard shutdown.
    I can almost duplicate the issue 7 times out of 10. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes or so before it locks up, sometimes its almost immediately.
    I have done a full fsck and permissions. I also downloaded tiger cache cleaner and cleaned all settings. I have also booted off the apple install cd and done a extended full RAM check on the 2Gb installed in my computer.
    I have restored my IO80211Family.kext from my other macbook pro (regular core duo) and my problems have gone away. I am 100% sure there is a bug with the 802.11n enabler and the Linksys WRT350N.
    I do not have any special configuration on my linksys, just MAC based wireless authentication.
    When using the MacBook pro on the WRT350N in 802.11g without the latest 802.11n enabler the mac performs fine and does not become unresponsive.
    Expected Results:
    I expect the mac to perform just as a 802.11g network will work with increased transfer speeds.
    Actual Results:
    See above.
    Regression:
    It only occurs when using network traffic (i.e Mail.app, Safari browsing sites, etc. Any application that requires Airport.
    Notes:
    I am using the original IO80211Family.kext driver that does not have 802.11n support and it works properly. Also using builtin ethernet with airport off and the 802.11n driver works (obviously).

  • Today Apple retail unit sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my Mac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and Airport Utility version. What can I do please?

    Today Apple retail unit/shop in sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my 21 inch iMac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and also newer Airport Utility version (mine is 5.6.1). What can I do, please? So much looking forward to using Time Capsule. It is not at all readable on box. Now with a magnified glass I can just about make out the installation requirements printed in tiny print at the bottom/base of the box! I have tried software update etc etc and to download Airport Utility update from Apple website. This was unsuccessful because of OSX, I gathered. Appreciate any similar experience and how it was resolved. Thank you. Tr

    You need OS X 10.7.5 or later. Most likely you can upgrade OS X on your iMac. You already have 10.6.8 and access to the App Store. If your computer qualifies to run Mavericks, then that is what you would upgrade to, otherwise, you would upgrade to Lion.
    Upgrading to Lion
    If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
    You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
    You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
    To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
          Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
    To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
             See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • Firefox 30 causing GSOD in OSX

    Ever since updating to FireFox 30 a few days ago, I have been getting the GSOD in OSX Mavericks, 10.9.3.
    It appears to be tied to running a Java applet from within FireFox, but it's not reproducible at will.
    Not sure how FF and/or Java can take down OSX, but the first GSOD happened within 10 minutes of upgrading to FF 30, and it just happened this morning downloading software from IBM using their Java Download Director.
    I had this problem previously and have since wiped the hard drive and completely reinstalled OSX and reinstalled my applications from scratch. It was fine for 3 weeks until FF 30 came along, now it's doing the GSOD with alarming frequency and seems to be tied to FF usage again.
    This is on a late 2013 15" MBPr, 16GB/500GB SSD. The computer passes all Apple diagnostics, survives Prime95, and a few hours of running Memtest86 so I don't think this is a hardware problem. I have no add-ons or extensions loaded into Firefox either.
    Seems similar to this problem:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/999218

    Yep, Flash and Java are up to date. Java 7 Update 60. Flash 14.0.0.125
    Even so, I'm kinda peeved that a browser can cause a GSOD. I haven't had a BSOD on any of my Windows boxes in years, and getting these recurrent GSOD's on OSX is annoying.
    Hopefully FF or Java fix whatever the (#&$!! is causing this soon!

  • Variables in hyperlink causing line breaks

    Hi,
    RoboHelp 8.0.2 - Win XP.
    A colleague has created a sentence on a page, dropped two variables into the middle and then converted the sentence to a hyperlink which jumps to an link lower down the screen.
    When previewed the sentence looks fine but when generated the sentence breaks across three lines where the variables start.
    She's done the same thing on other pages and it looks fine when generated. What could be wrong with this page? I've checked the HTML and it looks the same as other pages to me.
    Any help appreciated.
    Nick.

    Hi
    Thanks chaps. It's a WebHelp output.
    I've just tried to isolate the problem. I created a new page, repeated the process to put the hyperlink in and the problem still occured so it seems to be with the variable. I deleted the variable and re-created it and the sentence is no longer broken.
    Wonder why the variable created the page break?
    Anyway shall spend no longer worrying about it and put the experience down to RoboHelps ability to start acting weird when a deadline approaches (As all other software packages I touch seem to do).
    Thanks for your time.
    Nick.

  • Update to 10.4.10 seems to cause Safari to constantly crash

    I did a quick search and it seems that lots of users who have updated to 10.4.10 are experiencing frequent crashes with Safari. Safari has become so unreliable for me that I now use Firefox almost all the time instead of Safari. Since I updated to 10.4.10 Safari quits AT LEAST once a day and often 5 or 6 times. It can happen when I'm working at the computer or when I'm away from the computer and it is idle. I don't have any 'extras' like Safari Plus installed. I always do a full Combo Update install. I always Repair Disk Permissions before and after any update and before and after I install any software. The final straw last night was not only did Safari 'unexpectedly quit' it also removed itself from the dock!
    Any ideas??
    Cheers
    Tricia

    Hello again Hawaiian-Starman,
    I did exactly as you suggested in your last post and everything has been fine until just a little while ago - I was having lunch and when I came back to my computer I had the message on the screen that 'Safari had unexpectedly quit'.

    I'm afraid I don't know what to look for so I don't know what caused the problem. Should I simply repeat the procedure from your last post?
    Thank you for your help in this - I just wish they'd fix whatever it is that is causing this problem - which only started after I updated to 10.4.10.

  • Gracenotes seems to causing problems.

    Since yesterday I have been unable to import CDs to my itunes. The only reason I can think of is that yesterday itunes asked me did I want to use gracenotes, I clicked yes and since then the problems started. It's a PC windows 7, I'm using.

    Interesting. I haven't had MusicMatch Jukebox installed on a PC for (literally) five years, but it used to try to do Gracenote queries at the same time as iTunes versions 4.7 and 4.7.1 when I inserted a CD to do an iTunes import. So I'm not altogether surprised that it (or a particular version of it) could be causing Gracenote query trouble with newer versions of iTunes.
    If you're not using your MusicMatch Jukebox, uninstalling it should get rid of your mmjb.exe process permanently, Scy. If you are using it, then your workaround of ending the mmjb.exe process prior to doing an import in iTunes seems to be the way to go.

  • Malloc and osx update build 9G55

    Hi guys.
    I wrote a little app in c using xcode tools; it's my graduation project, and it consists in simulating a p2p network.
    Well, last week I ran the app with 1000, 10.000, 20.000, 80.000 and 150.000 nodes, and it worked perfectly.
    Now I have to run it again but, after updating the o.s. with the last update of ilife and media browser provided by apple via software update, it no longer works.
    Malloc fails to build the structure with 150.000 nodes (but it works perfectly building 1.000->80.000 nodes).
    I tried on another mac with my same configuration (10.5.6, last update, xcode 3.2.1 and so on) and the problem persists the same way.
    On a gentoo with gcc 4.1.2 it works perfectly. same source code.
    Any idea??
    Thanks.

    I think you're going to have to post some code. Just because it worked last week and on Linux doesn't mean that it was correct. Typically when something like this happens the code actually isn't correct. Linux is notorious for getting incorrect code to work. That is why it is never as easy as it appears to port from Linux to Mac. The first step is always fixing bugs that Linux ignored.

    nodimaliztrovati = malloc((num_nodi+1)*sizeof(int));

    This is from the file system. How big are your files? What architecture are you using? What API are you using for your files? MacOS X likes to use mmap when opening files. This is great for small files but becomes horribly slow for large files. If the files are big enough, > 2 Gig in this case, it may not work at all.
    i do NOT open ANY file running the program. there's no way it tries to access the disk nor writing nor reading.
    the only operations it executes are those said before.
    note: defining CARDMAX_TABELLAAMICI to 80, makes it work fine. 90 breaks it as like as 100, but 80 doesn't.

  • Jconsole seemed to cause JVM spike

    I was remotely using jconsole to access a production environment and I soon noticed that the JVM on the jboss server started to spike. After several hours there was no more memory and we had to restart jboss to clear the memory up. This has never happened before until yesterday when we first used jconsole on the production enviornment. Anyone else seen this problem before?
    Jboss version is 4.3
    on my workstations I was accessing a linux box with jconsole with java 1.6
    here is what is defined in my jboss's run.conf:
    JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=12002 -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false"
    So I was running jconsole remotely which seems like would not cause this problem however I don't see anything else on that server that would cause the JVM to spike like that. This has never happened before on this environment like I said expect yesterday when we ran jconsole. All things point to jconsole but I cannot say for sure. Is there an issues in the JDK 1.6 of jconsole that would cause this? Seems not since all the work should have been done on my workstation not on the server.
    The only thing i found in the documentation is that using jconsole locally on a production environment is not recommended but remotely is fine.....

    You're getting a crash in the native code of JMF. More than likely, the native code isn't threadsafe and you're just trying to access something shared simultaniously in 2 threads... Don't know that there's any way to fix it...

  • New YouView box seems to cause wireless to stop wo...

    I recently upgraded to a YouView box for my TV. The things is, since I've installed this, it seems to cut out the wireless connection to other devices in my home. (In particular, my wireless printer and windows phone.)
    When I reset the Hub, the printer then works fine for a while but my phone doesn't and it's not long until I have to reset the whole thing again because it's stopped working.
    I've tried moving the Hub further away from the YouView box and closer to the printer but it doesn't help. All worked perfectly before I got the YouView box, I never needed to reset the Hub at all.
    I hope someone can help? Many thanks in anticipation!

    Hi Pauline85,
    Thanks for posting. Have you tried changing the wireless channel? Take a look at How do I change the wireless channel on my BT Home Hub? and let us know how you get on.

  • QuickTime 10.1 does not seem to be compatible with OSX Lion  - clicking on the displayed file window switches to another displayed app, doesn't play or control the video.

    If I open a movie file (appears to be any type - .mov, m4v, mv4) it displays on the desktop, but when clicked, the Mac reverts to another open application (immediately UNDER to point of the mouse click) and not the displayed movie file.  It appears the screen mapping is flawed...
    Anyone else have this problem? (does not appear to be a problem with QT7)  Running OSX Lion 10.7.3 and QT Player 10.1 (501.8) - all most current as far as I can tell...

      Yes, same problem. The active clickable area appears to be shifted down and to the right as if it is the shadow mask (to make it look like layers in the display) that is responding. Means you can't move the control palette to the top of the window (to not block security video with time track at bottom) or even close the window. The X in the bubble appears when moused over but the click goes through it.
      Most obvious if you open more than one movie at a time and they cascade. You can't get at the ones underneath until a few down the stack and it gets an upper wrong one.
      Who's testing these things?
      For comparison testing to recreate problem: Mac Pro (System Information has also been dumbed down from System Profiler, push System Report for the useful stuff) with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 driving two displays.
       Also viewing desktop of another computer on the network is slower and, for instance in World of Warcraft, the hand pointer flickers.
      And finder windows can't be narrowed as much any more to show only a list of file names for drag and drop sorting.
      Was hoping that by 10.7.3, it would be safe to jump, since several posts told me how to Terminal > networksetup -setv6off Ethernet to fix iTunes streaming to expresses and other dumb bugs.

  • Upgrade to iLife 06 seemed to cause partial loss of iTunes music

    Upgraded to iLife06
    Shortly afterwards tried to update iPod Shuffle and noticed songs marked with !
    Clicking on songs results in message that these songs cannot be found.
    At first thought that this only affected purchased songs, but subsequently noticed that some songs from CDs are gone as well as some purchased music (generally seems to be more recently purchased music that is missing).
    I have looked in /Music/iTunes/iTunes Music and it truly seems that folders for artists corresponding to the missing songs are no longer present!?!
    Any suggestions?
    I would caution anyone upgrading to iLife06 to backup all their music first!
    I sure hope that most of my stuff is on my clone disk back home...
    1.33GHz 12" PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    I have a similar problem - over 3,000 songs in my library had this happen to them after upgrading to itunes 6.02
    Roughly half of my 6,000 songs show up fine after the upgrade, but 3,000 have the "!" next to them and I receive the message"could not be used because the orginal file could not be found." My song files are not actually lost, they are still in the location (which in my case is an external HD). I can locate the songs on a one off basis by clicking "yes" when asked if I would like to locate it. However, I have not been able to have my itunes library recognize them as a group.... and I do not want to manually re-associate thousands of songs.
    When I tried to re-point my itunes music folder location it goes through a process of updating, but with no change.
    I then tried to "Add to Library", which resulted in doubling the number of songs in my library. Each song with the "!" remains, and now there is a duplicate entry (without a "!" but also with: no rating, a date added=today)
    Any advice on how to restore my library to its orginal state? I'd like to keep my playlists and ratings intact... as well as remove the duplicates I now have.

  • What to do if my iPod has what appears to be a broken screen when nothing has happened to cause a break?

    I really need an answer.

    There's a big difference between a "broken screen", and "appears to be a broken screen".  The iPod Nano screen does not break spontaneously, so something must have happened.  Regardless, you can take it to an Apple store, or a retailer, and ask what the condition is.
