Using an LOV populated by AJAX in JSF page (Jdev 10.1.3.3)

Hello
I have a field on the JSF page which is associated with a ajax based LOV. The problem is that when we select a value and 'submit' the page, the value passed to the bean is null. I thought that was because we didn't have the bindings correct. However when define the bindings I get errors during run time.
My code snippet looks as follows:
<h:selectOneMenu id="series"
styleClass="textfield"
style="width:60px;"
onchange="getLocation();"
onfocus="getLocation();"
binding="#{mydata.series}"
immediate="true" />
Get Locations
Is there anyway I can do this without using ADF?.
The error message I get is:
javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: Conversion Error setting value ''{0}'' for ''{1}''.      at com.sun.faces.taglib.html_basic.SelectOneMenuTag.doEndTag(SelectOneMenuTag.java:515)     at pages.dataEntry._jspService(_dataEntry.java:129)     [pages/dataEntry.jsp]
Any workarounds/tips appreciated !!.
Thanks and regards
Prakash

Hi,
ADF does not have anything to do with it because its only an optional binding layer to use with JSF. My thinking is that your "Ajax" list (though I don't see Ajax in your code snippet) doesn't update the field so the component becomes aware of this change.

  • Is it possible to use two diff forms in same jsp/jsf page?

    Hi all,
    My requirement is to submit the form based on selection of radio button.
    since half part needs to be jsp based which is not using any tags etc.
    But i am trying to use some jsf based component which requires to be inside <f:view><h:form> of
    <%@ taglib prefix="f" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" %>
    <%@ taglib prefix="h" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" %>
    i.e. some <c:comboBox>
    </h:form> </f:view>
    Now earlier i was submitting the form as
    <form action="/techstacks-v2_1/reportAction.do" method="post" name=doSearch id='doSearch'>
    But now i found, in order to use combo box component which is entirely jsf based i need to use <f:view><h:form> which is kind of taking over the previous form submission mechiansm.
    I am trying to keep them separate as two differnt forms.
    one entirely jsp based and other as jsf based.
    Now my question is can i use such way of doing so or is there any better way of implementing so.
    My friend suggested that i can pass the value of jsf based form in hidden form to a input box of form to be submitted finally instead of submitteing two diff forms.
    but in that case also i ahev to use two forms in a single jsp/jsf page.
    suggest me something which can really work out.
    thanks
    vijendra

    You can use as many forms as you want as long as you don't nest forms. The HTML spec probibits that.

  • Implementing shortcut keys ion JSF pages Jdev 11g

    How we can implement shortcut keys ion JSF pages Jdev 11g ?
    We are doing a Oracle Forms to Java migration and our users are getting use to use function keys.
    how we can map a commit action on the form to "CTRL + F7 key" (for example)
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    This is not possible directly. With JSF technology you are limited with browser capabilities which are HTML + Javascript. So you cannot communicate directly with i.e. commit function only with i.e. HTML form action or AJAX based javascript function...

  • Unable to open local file using af:goLink and anchor link in JSF page.

    Hi,
    I want to open a file at a perticular location on client machine. I am using af:goLink to openg the file. But when i tried to click on the link it is not opening the file. If i give any other value like name of other site, it opens the link. It is not giving any exception also. I tried by puting notmal HTML anchor link. That is also not working. But if i put this anchor link in normal HTML page, it works.

    What version of IE are you using? IIRC, IE 7 is supposed to prompt you. ("The web site is attempting to open a page in your Trusted Zone. This can let hax0rs pwnz0r you. Continue?" or something to that effect.)
    If you use the verbatim tags, do you get an actual error message? That might help diagnose the problem.

  • How to use multiple data controls in a single JSF page

    Hi,
    I am using Essbase Data Control to in my project to get Essbase Cube data into ADF table/Pivot Table.
    Suppose if [Item] dimension has this hierarchy [category] -> [Segment] -> [Brand] -> - [Item]
    I need to display Category in one column and Segment in the next Column and [Brand] in the another column.
    Different types of Category, Segment and Brands should display as table data(data values).
    Using MDX query I can not print [Item] hierarchy in different columns..so I am planning to use multiple data controls.
    Could any body help me to get the solution.

    Hi,
    sounds like you want to try the Pivot table
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/apirefs.1111/e12418/tagdoc/dvt_pivotTable.html
    I don't think that multiple Data Controls is the solution to the problem

  • Refresh DIV using ajax or jsf

    Hi
    I have a tree view in one DIV. I have DataTable in another DIV. If i add a row in the Data Table DIV. I need to show the changes in the Tree View. Its like file explorer in windows. Does anyone having a snippet of code using backing bean? Data retrieved using Hibernate. Ajax or jsf code are fine.
    Thanks in advance.

    Ed Burn's Dynamic Faces project does this very easily also using an AjaxZone tag or using some custom JavaScript. I have a blog entry that describes a solution for what you're trying to do:
    http://blogs.sun.com/paulsen/entry/jsftemplating_dynamicfaces_easy_ajax
    You can do this without JSFTemplating w/ Ed's project also w/o too much configuration effort.
    Good luck!

  • How to Use another JSF page that I load by XMLHttpRequest?

    Hi everyone, I'm a newbie of JSF and curisous about how to load page content seperately by AJAX.
    I saw example of Java Blue Print. It's load some data to use in page. What I want is to load another JSF page when click a link or button, (Like include another page). And work with functions privoided by loaded JSF Page.
    My example is, In a main page. I request a JSF page and set it into a div layer.
    var requestURL = "/admin/customer/customer-list-body.faces";
    var content = postDataWithoutContent(requestURL);     divContent.innerHTML = content;
    All JSF components are required under <f:view>, thus action of form is set as "action='"/admin/customer/customer-list-body.faces'"
    But my page is main.jsp. Each time I click command button in customer-list-body.faces, the url will change to customer-list-body.faces, I want to request and hold in main.jsp.
    What can I do then? Any advices?

    Hi,
    the list doesn't seem to be your problem. You need to track down the illegal argument exception. Once you have that sorted out, expose the method on the AM so it gets shown as a method binding. The return values then could be picked up in a managed bean to create the select Item list

  • Using a LOV for the Start of a Tree - Pblms using LOV value for Start SQL

    I'm trying out my first APEX Tree using P20 and am having problems with it. The data structure is I have a clients table, an users table, a plans table and a union table (plan_users) that shows which users for a client are working on plans. An user belongs to a client and can be assigned to plans (plan_users).
    client_id (key to clients table and part of the composite key for users, plans and plan_users) is available as an application item which I can reference as :FOCUS_CLIENT_ID.
    I created several LOV's in the Shared Components. The PLANS_LOV returns all plans defined for the :FOCUS_CLIENT_ID. I've referenced this PLANS_LOV in the P20_ROOT_TREE which is setup to display the list of Plans for the Client as a SELECT LIST WITH SUBMIT. That seems to work and I can select the Plan.
    I then modified the SOURCE for the P20_ROOT_TREE to add a select statement to take the PLANS_ID selected in the LOV and use it in a Select to bring up the owner of the plan as the starting user for the tree. This is where I get an error when executing the SOURCE select statement which looks like this:
    select p.user_id id, p.plan_owner_id pid, u.user_lname name, null link
    from plan_users p, users u
    where p.client_id = :FOCUS_PLAN_ID and p.PLAN_ID = :PLANS_LOV
    and p.user_id = p.plan_owner_id
    and u.client_id = :FOCUS_PLAN_ID and u.user_id = p.user_id
    I'm guessing that the problem is what I'm referencing as :PLANS_LOV in the statement below. However I cannot find any information on how to reference the returned value from the PLANS_LOV for Page 20 so I've tried this.
    If this works right, then I want the user to select a PLAN from the LOV box and then see a tree displayed with all USERS hierarchically displayed beneath the Plan Owner. There may be multiple levels of users display under the Plan Owner.
    Here's the DEBUG page error I get. The number 4 is the correct Plan # I want to select Users for. The title on the page is "Available Plans". - Select Plan - is the default Null Value and Test Plan One is the Plan (#4) that I selected.
    Item: P20_TREE_ROOT COMBOBOX_WITH_SUBMIT

    The query I'm using for populating the rest of the tree after the START is this statement below, but I don't think I'm getting to this point yet.
    select p.user_id id, p.plan_owner_id pid, u.user_lname name, null link, null a1, null a2
    from plan_users p, users u
    where p.client_id = :FOCUS_CLIENT_ID
    and u.client_id = :focus_client_id
    and u.user_id = p.client_id
    order by name
    I haven't been able to find any examples of someone using a LOV as part of the START definition for a Tree. All of the examples I've seen use a fixed value (i.e. 1).
    Anyone have some ideas?
    Thanks!
    Rob

    Hi,
    Try something like:
    select p.user_id id, p.plan_owner_id pid, u.user_lname name, null link, null a1, null a2
    from plan_users p, users u
    where p.client_id = :FOCUS_CLIENT_ID
    and u.client_id = :focus_client_id
    and u.user_id = p.client_id
    START WITH :FIRST_USER_ID
    CONNECT BY PRIOR p.user_id = p.plan_owner_id
    order by name:FIRST_USER_ID should be computed to be the first p.user_id value that matches the filter. Ideally, the p.plan_owner_id value should be null for this user as this user should identify the top of the tree. As an example, the following, using the EMP table, will allow you to display a tree with any manager as the root:
    SELECT
    EMPNO ID,
    ENAME NAME,
    CASE WHEN EMPNO = :P1_EMPNO THEN NULL ELSE MGR END PID,
    null LINK,
    null a1,
    null a2
    FROM EMP
    START WITH EMPNO = :P1_EMPNO
    CONNECT BY PRIOR EMPNO = MGRAndy

  • Using Business Components in JSF pages

    I have several questions about using BCs in JavaServer Faces pages. I'm new to the JSF-BC development world.
    Here's what I'm trying to accomplish: a salesperson gets a call from a customer requesting a quote. The salesperson selects the URL for my RFQ form and begins filling it out. If there is an existing customer record in the company's database, the salesperson wants to be able to load customer info into the form from the database, rather than typing it all in. Reasonable enough, and probably simply enough.
    But it's kickin' my butt. I've created the domain objects (including one for the customer database, call it "CU") and the model objects (a View Object that filters out all fields but those needed on the form, an Application Module with a View Object Instance). Initially I am routing from the main form window to a dialog window where I am hosting the customer selection components, intending to return to the main window with the selection. On the dialog window I've dropped the VO and configured it to be an ADF Navigation List (which gets implemented as an af:selectOneChoice component). So far so good. The navigation to and from is working fine. The selectOneChoice list is being populated with the first range of returned records. Here's where I'm stuck.
    First of all I can't figure out how to kick the iterator into sending additional records after it's first range. You can scroll down to the end of the list in the selectOneChoice component but nothing happens after that. I know I can set the iterator's range to 0 to get all of the records dumped in at once, but that takes way too long. Any ideas?
    Secondly, when a selection is made, how do I access the selected data? I have set up a ValueChangeListener method in my dialog's backing bean that gets the NewValue() from the event object, but that value turns out to be the index into the collection of selectItems. How do I get the value of the data that shows in the list? Is that the label of the selectItem? If so, how do I access it? What I really want is to get the entire row of data represented by the returned index, but I'm lost as to how to do that. Any help would be much appreciated.
    At some point I want to let the salesperson type in a partial customer name and then retrieve only records matching the query's where clause. I see where I can create a bind variable on the view object, but am not sure how to pass the partial name value from the main form to the dialog. Currently I use an EL expression in the Action attribute of an af:selectInputText component to navigate to the dialog and I don't think I can pass parameters with that. I guess I would have to switch to using a method binding to a backing bean, eh? But even if I can get the partial name value to the dialog, how do I bind that value to the bind variable of the VO? (the VO that is already bound to the af:selectOneChoice component in the dialog.)
    And I am totally open to alternative suggestions for how to accomplish the original intention of all of this. Thanks for any guidance.
    Johnny Lee

    Thanks, Shay. That has gotten me a few steps further along. I modified my VO by creating a bind variable and modified the SQL to use this variable in it's where clause. I generated Java for my AppMod (which I hadn't done before, preferring to keep things simple) and created a method to supply a value to my VO's new bind variable. I need a little more hand-holding, though, to wire an input text field & button (or af:selectInputText?) to both the AppMod's new method AND the data component that will display the query results.
    "...drag the exposed method as a button onto a JSF page." That's easy enough, but I haven't yet figured out from the examples how to associate the value of an input component with the parameter of the AppMod's new method. It's getting late, I'm starting to see cross-eyed so I will sleep on this and take another look in the morning. Thanks for your help.

  • Tutorial on how to create an Ajax-enabled JSF component in Creator?

    Is there a tutorial on how to create (not use/import existing) an Ajax-enabled JSF component using Creator 2? I read somewhere that it was done during a presentation in 3 minutes! Now that I really want to see ;-
    thanks,

    As far as I remeber, Edwin Goei's examples are the
    closest thing to the info you are looking. He has an
    example component, but don't remember if they're
    AJAX enabled. Check it on
    http://wiki.java.net/bin/view/Javatools/CustomCompone
    tLibraries.
    Best regards
    Antonio.Thanks for the plug. I've been meaning to update that article. Writing an AJAX component is similar to writing other kinds of components but the developer uses AJAX techniques. The latest version of the popup calendar which is checked into the bpcatalog project of java.net uses Dojo which also has some support for AJAX. I haven't yet had time to update the article yet, unfortunately.

  • Serialization error when using Jheadstart LOV's

    I am using Jheadstart 11.1.1.4.26 and JDev 11.1.1.5
    I have 2 applications, One of them uses JHeadstart LOV's and drop downs throught and has no errors. The other application gets a serialization error on the task flow at runtime if I use a JHeadstart LOV. If I use all ADF Model LOV's it is happy.
    I have spent hours comparing the 2 applications looking for what is causing the serialization error on the one app but not the other. I was under the impression that upgrading to the latest jheadstart fixed this problem on the good app. Upgrading has not fixed the other one though.
    Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Thanks Stephen, You jarred my memory. It was the weblogic.xml settings. In the application without the serialization error I had commented out some persistence settings. When I did the same with the problem application the serialization error went away.

  • Ajax with jsf problem

    Hi
    I have small problem here. I worked struts with ajax before. currently. I m trying to work on ajax with jsf, here i m getting the problem. i created one ajaxaction class its extends httpservlets. then i created one manage bean, then i want to call the class using javascript, i dont know how to do. can any one help for me.
    Thanks

    I have never worked with the AJAX + JSF combo before, but I know that you can invoke a managed bean action using javascript and the h:commandLink and h:commandButton elements.
    <h:form id="form1">
        <h:commandLink id="link1" action="#{MyBean.action1}"><h:outputText value="link" /></h:commandLink>
        <h:commandButton id="button1" action="#{MyBean.action2}" value="button" />
    </h:form>
    <f:verbatim><script>
        function myFunction() {
            document.getElementById('form1:link1').onclick(); // this invokes the #{MyBean.action1}
            document.getElementById('form1:button1').click(); // this invokes the #{MyBean.action2}
    </script></f:verbatim>I haven't tried other ways yet. But this might give you an idea.

  • JSF Page Creation wizard title configuration uses old values!

    I just noticed that if you don't explicit change the value of the page's title in the JSF Page Creation Wizard, the page created will get the title from the last page where you changed the title.
    Tested in JDev 10.1.3.1Production and JDev 10.1.3.1 Preview

    I'm thinking this has to do with the fact that the UIComponents use the localValue after validation fails. This prevents the values from being overwritten when re-rendering the page, i.e. the inputs keep the value set by the user.
    The solution is to manipulate the components directly during the AJAX request when the first pull down is changed. Use the binding attribute to place them into your bean and clear the value directly. That way it will not matter that the expression is not evaluated.

  • Ajax with JSF Component

    How is it possible to embed Ajax with JSF Components. Every JSF request by default hits the Faces Servlet. Is it possible to by pass this flow for certain events?

    Wouldn't use it, that project is practically dead. It's has never been further developed/documented/supported since version 0.1 alpha in 2005.
    Ajax4jsf is still active and has excellent documentation/support.
    It might be good to know that the upcoming JSF 2.0 provides ajaxical capabilities.

  • I am trying to use java  file as Model layer and jsf as presentation layer

    I am trying to use java file as Model layer and jsf as presentation layer and need some help
    I successfully get the value of h:outputText from java file by doing simple binding operation but I am facing problems when I am trying to fill h:dataTable
    I create java file
    package oracle.model;
    import java.sql.;*
    import java.util.;*
    *public class TableBean {*
    Connection con ;
    Statement ps;
    ResultSet rs;
    private List perInfoAll = new ArrayList();
    *public List getperInfoAll() {*
    perInfoAll.add(0,new perInfo("name","username","blablabla"));
    return perInfoAll;
    *public class perInfo {*
    String uname;
    String firstName;
    String lastName;
    *public perInfo(String firstName,String lastName,String uname) {*
    this.uname = uname;
    this.firstName = firstName;
    this.lastName = lastName;
    *public String getUname() {*
    return uname;
    *public String getFirstName() {*
    return firstName;
    *public String getLastName() {*
    return lastName;
    right click on the file and choose 'create data control'
    then i wrote the jsf file:
    *<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>*
    *<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>*
