Allow User to set dpi for "Edit in Photoshop"

It is very frustrating to continually have to change image dpi to 300 in Photoshop from the 240 default in Lightroom. Please let user set a preference to their desired dpi workspace.

OK, that's the info I was looking for. For work in PS the dpi doesn't
make any difference [and 300 is - I have a few years of advertising
and production behind me, too - overkill in most cases].

  • Allowing user to set password for form?

    I have a performance evaluation form that has been rights-extended so users can save data typed into the form, but the users would like to be able to set their own passwords for security purposes. Is there any way to do this? My last resort I guess will be to just tell them to zip the pdf file into a password protected zip file, but I feel like there must be a way to script something in the doc:ready event??
    Thanks,
    Jo

    Hi,
    I designed a sample to protect a form with a password.
    Therefore I use 2 hidden fields somewhere in the form that store either the password and the state of the form (protected or unprotected).
    The I added two script, one in the preSave:event one in the docReady:event.
    The preSave script check if the form state is set to unprotected (0), if so it opens a response box to enter a password, that is stored in the hidden password field.
    After that the form fields are set to invisible and the form is saved.
    When the form is reopend the docReady script check if the form state is set to protected (1).
    If so, it asks for the password.
    If the password is wrong or empty the form fields stay invisible.
    The preSave:event script:
    if (xfa.resolveNode("#pageSet.Master.Protected").rawValue == "0")
         var pw = xfa.host.response("Enter Password", "Enter Password", "", true);
         if (pw != null)
              xfa.resolveNode("#pageSet.Master.PW").rawValue = pw;
              xfa.resolveNode("#pageSet.Master.Protected").rawValue = "1";
              Form1.Page.presence = "invisible";
    The docReady:event script
    if (xfa.resolveNode("Form1.#pageSet.Master.Protected").rawValue != "0")
         var chk = xfa.host.response("Password required", "Password required", "", true);
         var pw = xfa.resolveNode("Form1.#pageSet.Master.PW").rawValue;
         this.presence = chk === pw? "visible":"invisible";

    Hi Wayne,
    You can only save runtime customizations to the repository for the users present in jazn-data.xml file (If you are using file based security).
    You will have to do the following before you can start saving user customizations:
    1. Create Webcenter Template project.
    2. Apply ADF Security
    3. Use page-definition files for jspx pages.
    After this, whatever customizations you do, will be saved to persistence storage.
    Better would be to try this on server. Since, before deploying, you run the pre-deployment tool, which will take the MDS Repository path as an input and store all persistence storage there.
    If there is nothing in that location, you can be sure something is wrong and debug it.
    Hope that was helpful.

  • Allow User to set their Default Home Page

    How can I allow the end user to set their defualt home page? There is a User Profile Portlet but end users are not able to see it when they log in. Also, I want them to be able to just set their own defualt home page.
    Thanks.

    As a privileged user:
    [same functionality as above]
    Oracle Portal Home Page > Administer Tab > Portal User Profile > Edit Portal User Profile > Preferences Tab > Default Home Page
    On this page you can also set the Default Group for the user. As groups have a Default Home Page property too, the Default Home Page can be managed on a group membership basis, if needed.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I set DPI for a document in illustrator?

    I'm designing a user interface for iPad (Resolution: 1024x768, DPI:132). Setting the resolution is a piece of cake but when I change the ruler unit to Centimeters, it shows the screen about 36x27cm which is not right (iPad screen is 24.3x19cm).
    Illustrator calculates these lengths based on the DPI. But when creating a new document the only available DPI's are: 72, 150, 300 (File > New > Raster Effect). I searched for the answer on this forum and googled it and looked into the help but couldn't find a satisfying answer. I know that Illustrator is a vector design program but there must be a way to set the DPI to an arbitrary value.
    How can I have a 1024x768px artboard in Illustrator that is 24.3x19cm? (DPI=132)

    Alex,
    only when I'm printing or saving the image for the web, Illustrator will ask me the actual width.
    Almost. Illustrator won't "ask you for the width." As with any program, when you export a vector graphic to a raster image, you have the opportunity to specify its resolution, in number of pixels.  Illustrator tries to "simplify" (and thereby often confuses) this process by providing different interfaces for the same thing. The so-called "Save For Web" interface is just another way to export a raster image (and other web-centric things, like slicing). The settings available (or at least the ones most prominate) differ between the straightforward Export dialog and the Save For Web dialog.
    My question is: how illustrator calculates these measures?
    Again: When Illustrator's rulers are set to "Pixels," they are really set to points. A point measures 1/72 inch. So Illustrator assumes a "pixel" is scaled to measure 1/72 inch, even though it may not be in a particular raster image object you have on the page.
    But when you export as a raster image (in other words, rasterize the artwork), you don't care what those pixels are scaled to due to the actual, physical, hardware dimensions of the device's monitor pixels (so-many centimeters by so-many centimeters). Regardless of whether the device's hardware pixels are gigantic or microscopic, you just care how many of them there are. So long as you export your finished artwork rasterized to that number of pixels, it will effectively be scaled (in terms of actual measure) by whatever device it is displayed on, becasue the device is going to "turn on" a monitor pixel for each pixel in your image.
    In other words, when designing purely for electronic displays (as opposed to printing), forget all about PPI, or DPI, which are nothing but scale factors, and forget about the actual measure (centimeters x centimeters, inches by inches) of the monitor.
    If I display your 1024 x 768 image in a web browser on my 15-inch-diagonal Toshiba laptop, your image is going to occupy 1024 x 768 of my monitor's pixels.
    If I display your 1024 x 768 image in a web browser on my 10-inch-diagonal Acer netbook, your image is going to occupy 1024 x 768 of my monitor's pixels, and it will display at a smaller actual size than it does on my Toshiba, because the Acer's monitor pixels are smaller than the Toshiba's monitor pixels.
    But even though the image's actual measure is smaller on the Acer, and even though your image occupies the exact same number of monitor pixels on both the Acer and the Toshiba, I will have to do some scrolling on the Acer because its monitor has fewer hardware pixels.
    So if I'm designing images to fit neatly on my Acer without the need for scrolling, I care about its screen size in terms of number of hardware pixels, not in terms of actual measure (centimeters or inches).
    I want to be able to set the lines and curves in terms of pixels.
    Because Illustrator considers a pixel to be a particular measure (1/72 inch), work with your rulers set to either the bogus PIxels or to Points (which, in Illustrator, is the same thing). Forget about the dimensions of a device screen. It doesn't matter.
    If you want to also spec type in terms of "pixels" you can also (pointlessly) set your General Prefs to use the bogus Pixles as the "Unit Of Measure". But this is pointless because in Illustrator, a so-called "Pixel" is, in fact a point already, and Points is the default UOM for type. Either way, you have to realize that any measure for type (using "Pixels" or Points) is a measure of the font's em-square, not the measure of the actual glyphs. So setting your type to "9 Pixels" doesn't mean the type characters are going to occupy 9 pixels in height.
    But you can proceed to specify line weights, box sizes, etc., etc, in terms of ruler units (bogus pixels or legitimate points).
    Alternatively, if you want, you can set your rulers to Centimeters. And then as you draw your boxes and set your stroke weights, you can specify them in terms of Points or "Pixels" by just typing "pts" or "px" after the measures you key into the various dimension fields.
    But after all this is said and done, the point you're missing is still this: All that means nothing if you don't export the resulting images to the number of pixels that you want them to occupy on the device you are designing for. In other words, you can work with your Illustrator rulers set to "Pixels" all day long; but if you then export the artwork to a raster format using a Pixels-Per-Inch setting other than 72, It won't be the right size, because Illustrator still thinks a Pixel measures one point.
    So regardless of how you have your rulers set while working, it is just simpler (and more legitimately meaningful) to export your raster images in terms of number of pixels (N pixels x n pixels), not by PPI. That brings us full-circle right back to where your question started: There is no document-wide PPI for an Illustrator file.
    But what you have to understand is this: If your design includes already-rasterized objects, the number of actual pixels included in each of those raster objects is entirely independent of whatever Illustrator's rulers say they "measure" in "Pixels". That is very important. Because if you use as part of your design a raster image that is scaled to anything other than 72 ppi, and/or that image does not align to a point-size increment of Illustrator's grid, then when you export your final product, that image is going to be re-rasterized to whatever PPI you export, based on its on-page position and the quality of that image is going to be compromized. That's why it's important to understand that "Pixels" is bogus as a unit of measure in a program like Illustrator.
    In pursuit of web- and device-centric creative markets, Adobe continues to add confusion-generating "conveniences" to Illustrator. For example, to workaround Illustrator's problematic antialiasing, version CS5 added a feature called Align To Pixel Grd which causes vertical and horizontal strokes to align to whole-"pixel" increments, to avoid antialiasing of those edges.
    There are also probably templates in your AI installation (depending on version) already set up for mobile devices, and there's the whole "Device Central" online thing, if you're inclined to use that kind of thing. So look up and read about those features.

  • Multi-user, networked set-up for Macs - ideas wanted!

    Let me say at the outset that my preference would be to wait for the new Mac Pro Towers to come out.  Having said that, however, I'm looking for some ideas on setting up some sort of network environment for editing with either iMacs or Mac Minis.
    I run a University Lab with 4 student work stations and 3 office editing suites.  All are connected to the network via gigabit.  In the past, we successfully used the FCP Server as an edit-in-place device.  Well... it was successful at *that* anyway   We shoot long-format, multicam, HD AVCHD (and we want to edit it natively).  Typically 4 or 5 two-camera, hour long shoots a week.  We also do occassional P2 work (2 or 3 camera shoots), DSLR (short pieces) and several three-camera (or more) multicam theater productions (2-4 hours each - AVCHD).
    Does anyone have recommendations for a fast and reliable network solution (ideally over ethernet unless Thunderbolt would be a better solution) that would support, say, 4 simultaneous editors?  For the moment, let's say price is not as much of an issue as speed and reliablility.  I already have a 16TB network for medium-term storage of finished archived pieces and raw footage.  I'm looking for something smaller (4 TB), for working projects over the course of a semester.  TPTB would like to have it stored in the Server Room (which is why I said Ethernet over Thunderbolt).
    As to computers... I'm no fan of iMacs (I prefer Minis) but the highest end one seems to have an Adobe supported graphics card.  As far as I can tell the minis don't.  Both iMacs and Minis have Thunderbolt but I really **really** don't want the nightmare of multiple external harddrives (been there, done that, hated it!).  Does anyone have experience using Premiere on either a mini or iMac?
    Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  This isn't the route I want to go, but the money is available now and the new Mac Towers are not.
    Thanks
    Allynn

  • Setting Prefernces for Editing in iPhoto 6

    In iPhoto 5 if you double clicked an iPhoto and had selected in Prefernces for CS2 to open you could edit there. If you selected the EDIT button in iPhoto it went to iPhoto editing.
    I find in iPhoto 6 that selecting CS2 in Prefernces and either double clicking an iPhoto or hitting the EDIT button both take you to CS2. Whatever you selected in iPhoto-- Preferences --General --EDIT IN-- It appears the only way to choose the edit application (CS2 or within iPhoto) is by changing the Prefernce setting in iPhoto. Am I missing something? Thanks for you help.

    Hello,
    There are 2 ways to use an external editor and iPhoto's editor without switching preferences around.
    1. Set an external editor. Yes, the EDIT button will still open your external editor. But try the Full-Screen Edit Icon (rectangle with arrows pointing outward at bottom left of window). It should open your photo for editing in iPhoto's Full-Screen edit mode.
    2. From Old Toad:
    Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
    If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.
    Do these work for you?

    Are any of the G5 iMac's external interfaces (FireWire 400/USB 2.0) really fast enough for editing and playback of HDV in FCE or am I always going to suffer jerky stop-start performance? Currently using a LaCie d2 Quadra 500GB drive connected via USB which supports 'up to 60MB/s' according to spec – is this set-up going to cut it? If not, what's optimum for this iMac?

  • Please help! Issues with file permissions on the 'Edit' file created by LR for editing in Photoshop?

    I am running a Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion. I use a Netgear ReadyNas as my storage device. I can Save, Re Save, Delete and add files without any concern on the ReadyNas from within PS or LR. However when I use the 'Edit in Photoshop" command on LR. I chose the 'Edit a copy with edits', LR creates the new duplicate 'edit' file in the same directory as the original. It opens in PS, I edit as required, however when I save the file to return to LR, I am informed that the file is locked and that I need to edit settings on file or folder, even though the settings are working for all other edits etc. I have had Netgear on this for 3 hours this evening and they cannot see any issues with the setting on the ReadyNas. Does anyone know what permissions are changed or why they are changing when the file is being created by LR?
    Sorry bit of a long winded one - but I hope that all makes sense?

    h264 is highly compressed and might be the reason your skimming isn't smooth, it may also take a bit more time to convert. I don't have to worry all that much about space so I haven't particularly tried it and can't say whether there are any drawbacks of doing so.
    If you google 'mpegstreamclip tutorials', you will see quite a few tutorials you can look at, they do tend to be specific to one task which may not exactly fit in with what you are trying to do, but looking at a few might give you a better understanding of what some options do and when to use them if at all.

  • Esata vs fw800 user preferences set up for scratch drive

    I would like to switch scratch disc capture from a current fw800 setup (and setting) to esata. I purchased a express card34 esata. scratch disc is an external 3.5in 750gb 7200rpm hdd esata
    My question is this: should I make an adjustment in user preferences in regards to "limit real-time" Currently i have it set for fw800 at 42mb.
    Also my deck is connected via fw800 to scratch drive. Will this present a complication when capturing via capture devise fw800> scatch drive esata> fcp?

    Found it. Page 1820 of the FCP 7 user manual (.pdf)
    +Limit real-time video to N MB/s: Final Cut Pro uses this number to limit how many video streams can play back from your scratch disk in real time. This is useful when multiple editing systems are sharing the same media (such as a storage area network, or SAN), or when you have a scratch disk with a limited data rate, such as a portable computer hard disk.+
    +For example, suppose you try to play a sequence with six simultaneous video tracks containing DV media, and Final Cut Pro warns you that frames were dropped during playback. If you then try to play a sequence with five simultaneous video tracks and no frames are dropped, you know that your scratch disk can handle no more than five simultaneous DV video streams. Since DV has a data rate of 3.6 MB/sec., you can select the “Limit real-time video to” option and enter 18 MB/sec. (5 x 3.6 MB/sec.) in the number field. Now, if a sequence requires a sustained data rate of more than 18 MB/sec. for+
    +playback, Final Cut Pro shows a red render bar over this portion of the sequence.+
    +Note: Final Cut Pro always allows a single video stream to play, even if the data rate limit you set is below the data rate of a single video stream. For example, if you set the data rate limit to 1 MB/sec., Final Cut Pro would still play back a single DV video stream, even though its data rate is 3.6 MB/sec.+

    Archive/trash Pages 5, after Exporting your files to Pages '09, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.
