Alphabetizing Songs

My iTunes Music Library list my songs correctly in alphabetical order, ignoring the A, and sorting by the second (important) word. However, on my ipod, it sorts the song in the As. For example the Song A Thousand Stars shows up in my Library under T.. On my ipod it shows up under A. Is there a way to get the desired sort onto the ipod?

I asked a question today that was just the opposite, how to set my songs in the order that they are on vinyl rather than by alphabet. Got an answer that would help you with your situation if you so cared to go through the process. Here is the link, look for the post from GLNHP:

Whenever I am listening to itunes on my iphone and plug it in to my USB in my car radio, the song stops and instead the first alphabetical song is played. It also does this when it's been plugged in the car, and then I remove it, and it reverts back to the first alphabetical song. This has only happened after I updated my phone. Does anyone have any ideas?!

I appreciate the commentary response but I'm not sure how this resolved my problem.  The car was made before the iPhone coming out.  By this fact, it would seem as if Apple has not made the product to compliment cars made before it.
Can anyone provide me steps to resolve this issue please?
    Thanks,

  • Alphabetized song l

    Can anyone help me?
I just got a muvo tx fm and was wondering if there is any way I can change the order of songs in the folders OR are they always alphabetized?
    Thanx
    Sue

sorry, but I don't have a Muvo tx, but for my Micro, the order depends on how you set the order in the Media Explorer for the player. When you have the music in the organizer, click one of the order sets (name, track #, album, etc.) and that should be how it is listed on the player

  • I'd like a complete alphabetical list of albums in my library.

any simple way to do this? i'm transferring my cds to itunes ( a lot). it would be nice to be able to find and album on a master printed alphabetized list for easy reference. eventually id like an alphabetized song list too.

    Hi,
In case you plan to move to Leopard one day, there is a great sofware called "Delicious Library" that you can download from delicious-monster.com, which does exactelly what you want and more.
It automatically indexes your Itunes Library, show everything on shelves with artworks or as an alphabetic list.
It does a lot more, as it includes a bar-code scanning utility that works with any webcam and find online the name, cover page, characteristics and user's comments from Amazon. It can index everything you want : CD, DVD, Books..
Unfortunatelly it does not run with Tiger...

  • Shuffle songs doesn't seem to work on my ipad mini

Shuffle songs doesn't seem to work on my ipad mini; it just goes on to play the next alphabetical song. Can anyone help?

The info on that is correct - it says :
You currently cannot hide purchases on devices using iOS 6.
You should still be able to hide ibooks via your computer's iTunes, and they shouldn't then appear in the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app (if you don't want ibooks that are in the cloud to show on the bookshelf in iBooks then set Settings > iBooks > Show All Purchases 'off' - hiding doesn't hide them from that, only from the Purchased tab).

  • Songs re-organized!

Hi there, I have a 3rd Generation iPod Nano (8GB), and I used Winamp for my iPod, downloaded a few songs to it and that's it, I went on my iPod and went to "Songs" and all my songs are out of alphabetical order.
    Example:
    -Song with a number
    -Song starting with A
    (goes through rest of alphabet)
    -Song starting with A
(goes through rest of alphabet, it seems like there are 3 lists with different songs, I bet they are organized by bitrate or format, etc, but can iTunes or is there any way to reorganize them by alphabet like the default is? (except for reformating or deleting all songs)
    Thanks...

My personal experience on this, (and I'll preface it by saying that I just got to 67,000 of right over 102,000 songs, audiobooks and videos restored to my iTunes library) is that if you don't manually update your ID3 tags, and that's for every last song, book, or video in your library, you're going to have problems if you ever move it, or back it up and replace it with a new library file. In other words without the original library file, iTunes has to figure out all over again what is what and it does it by the ID3 tags that were in the files to begin with, even if what you had in the iTunes library was different.
This becomes painfully apparent when you import an entire drive all at one time. Entire folders get renamed, album info gets lost, start/stop points are reset, some tracks get turned completely blank (ie: name, artist, title all read "name" "artist" and "title" and nothing more) Playlist m3u's can throw things off too. I always delete m3u files before importing any folders. (Some of my older backups still have them. That's why I'm making this latest backup without them.)
I have successfully backed up 90% of my library with updated ID3 tags and as a result, rebuilding this current library is going pretty quick (2 weeks so far) except for about 9,000 songs and audiobooks that have to be added either a folder at a time or in most cases a track at a time and I have to manually input the info at the time of import or spend weeks trying to figure out what is what and where it goes.
I should be all done by mid-January, and I plan to finish off the ID3 updating before I: 1. burn this latest library to DVDs, and 2. copy it all over to another 500Gb backup drive as a secondary back up.

  • My ipod play all songs, one after the next...

When I click on a song in my ipod and play it, after it's done it goes to the next alphabetical song in my list and starts playing that, and so on. How do I get it to just play the song I select and then stop?

on your ipod select music> select artist>select album>then slect the song in that album to play. It will afterwards go on to play the other songs in the album you selected.
To truly only play 1 song then the easiest way would to place that particualr song by itself in a playlist adn then play that playlist.
Or you can jsut simply press the pause button after you ahve listend tot hat 1 song that you chose to listen tooo.

  • Car Stereo wont play after 4.1

Hello, this is a problem that has seemed to progressively get worse with each iOS update. I know this is probably more of an issue for the maker of the car stereo, but it's also an issue caused by the OS updates. The stereo is a Valor ITS-702.
iOS 2 worked just fine, the artists would show up in alphabetical order and selecting them would bring up all the artists sorted by album/tracknumber.
Then there was the iOS 3 update. Artists still showed up just fine in alphabetical order. However, now when you would select one of the artists all the songs would be in alphabetical order. The trick around this was to create a playlist for each artist. The playlist would show the songs just how it would on the phone or in iTunes. That was an easy fix. This was an issue for both the iPhone 3G and the 1st gen iPod Touch. My old iPod Photo still works just like it should.
iOS4.0 through iOS 4.0.2 worked pretty much the same as iOS3 except for the playlist would show "No Songs..." It would still play the whole playlist, but you couldnt select a specific song without pressing Next or Previous. I've since gotten an iPhone 4 and it does the exact same thing.
Then there was iOS 4.1. Now it will display all the artists but will only play the first artist in the list. For example you have two bands on the phone, "Band A" and "Band Z". You want to listen to "Band Z". So you select "Band Z" and it will show "No Songs..." It will play the first 10 seconds of the first alphabetical song by "Band Z" then start playing the first song by "Band A".
This is a rather annoying issue that has just progressively gotten worse and worse.
Any suggestions on what could be causing this issue?

I have an AVN762EA navigation and audio system in my Nissan X-trail. I have been using my Iphone 3gs (with IOS 4.0) succesfully. Last night I let itunes upgrade my phone to 4.1, and now the AVN762 cannot access my iphone.
Here is a link which shows that many other people are having similar problems with a range of car audio systems. http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2575482&start=0&tstart=0
Is there any way I can reload IOS 4.0?

  • I want iTunes to STOP updating my information, is this possible?  how?

I want iTunes to STOP updating my information.  Each time I open my 21,000 song library in which I have carefully customized 'genre' and 'album' and 'album sort' iTunes CHANGES MY SETTINGS.  I want to stop this unasked for and unwanted corruption of my entries, please.  (e.g. album sort undoes alphabetical song order for an artist, which is unwanted and irritating .. I have ALL of my 'album sort' set as * .. this provides perfect alphabetization .. please stop changing 'genre' and 'album' and 'album sort'.

  • What Order Does iPod Display!?

My mini is driving me crazy. I like to listen to Bible studies when I am going to sleep. I need to listen to the sermons in order. But my iPod keeps listing the files BACKWARD! On iTunes, I set the playlist to display exactly how I want them to play. On the mini-backward. I set the track numbers in proper sequence-backward. What is the mini using as a sort criteria? Certainly not the name of the song. I looked in my song list on another playlist and it is all random and not listed in any particular order.
Can someone tell me by what criteria the iPod Mini uses to sort with? What takes priority? Why would it be listed backward through my tracks?
My iPod Mini has the latest software update.

Yes, I have one playlist that reads "Bible Study" and I want to sort the tracks within it.
    Job 1-4
    Job 5-6
    Job 7-10
    etc.
Here is what I wrote to Apple:
I like to listen to Bible studies when I am going to sleep. I need to listen to the sermons in order. But my iPod keeps listing the files BACKWARD! On iTunes, I set the playlist to display exactly how I want them to play. On the mini-backward. I set the track numbers in proper sequence-backward. What is the mini using as a sort criteria? Certainly not the name of the song. I found it was listing by WHEN it was transfered.
Please fix this bug. Have the playlist list by how we set it in iTunes. This includes regular playlists AND smartplaylists. If on iTunes it lists in track order, so be it. If it lists in alphabetical song name order, so be it. If random is turned on in the playlist, have it list randomly.
Shouldn't this be how it properly operates? Thanks! BTW I have an Intel iMac.

  • Why is music player on ipod frozen? The apps work OK...

My Ipod music player opens, but I can't access any controls. It is stuck either on the top of the alphabetical song list or on the last song I played. The little 'working' turning-circle icon just keeps working. However, I can return to the main menu and all of my apps work. I do have online access and when attached to my computer, I can force the sync, but nothing changes. Diagnostic checked out as well. Does anyone have an easy fix?

Hey Michata, have you tried turning your iPod off then back on? Or a soft reset, press and hold the power and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears, about 10 seconds, then release both buttons. Or a hard reset, go into Settings>General>Reset then tap Reset All Settings. If problem continues, connect to your computer, make backup copies of all your stuff on the iPod to your computer first, then Restore from Backup, last resort Restore to New. If a full restore does not resolve, Contact your Apple store or the Apple Genius Bar set up appointment and have your iPod evaluated for possible hardware issue. Good luck. Cheers.

  • My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from alphabetizing the song list created. I wanted to keep the original order, and somehow everything was alphabetized without requesting it.

My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from automatically alphabetizing the song list.   I had a specific order of songs that I wanted, and Itunes somehow automatically alphabetized them.  Is there a way to turn that feature off, and/or get them back to the original order?   I also noticed that once a playlist has been created, I cannot manually changed the order of the songs from my desktop..  Any suggestions?

That's just the sort order. It's displaying the media alphabetically because you have clicked on the NAME column near the top of the iTunes window.
Click on the little triangle above the column of numbers (usually on the far left side of the main iTunes window) and the media will sort in the order in which you added each item to the playlist.
You can easily reorder songs within a playlist: Click and HOLD on the song you wish to move, then drag-and-drop it wherever you like.

  • How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac? Thanks a lot. Carlo Molinari (Rome - Italy)

How can I do to transfer all iTunes library from my Mac book Pro to Time capsule without to lost the alphabetic sequence of songs & artists? What is the correct way to transfer my 3000 songs to Time capsule, to free the memory of my Mac?
The following are the basic steps to transfer your iTunes Media folder from your MacBook Pro to the Time Capsule (TC). Note: You will leave the iTunes Library, and its associated files, on the MacBook Pro as you will only be moving the media files.
Be sure to shutdown iTunes before starting.
Next, move the "iTunes Music" folder, located in ~/Music/iTunes/, to wherever you want on your TC's internal hard drive. Remember to leave the Album Artwork folder, as well as the three individual library files where they are on the MacBook Pro.
Wait a while. If you have a large library, this will take a bit of time.
Once the iTunes Media folder has been transferred, open iTunes. Note: It will still be looking at your local iTunes Library on the MBP. As such it will think that the iTunes Media folder is still on the MBP as well. However, we just relocated it to the TC. If you attempt to select any song, you will get an error that the song is "missing." Not to worry, we will correct this in the next step.
We need to tell iTunes the media has moved to the TC's internal HDD. To change where iTunes "looks" for the media, open iTunes and go to the Advanced > General tab and use the "Change..." button to tell it where your new "iTunes Music" library is located.
Once this is done iTunes will likely pop up a progress window telling you that it's re-analyzing your library. Let it complete this step.
As a final check to make sure everything when as planned, click on any library file from within iTunes and press cmd + i (or View > Get Info). At the bottom of the Summary tab in that window is a "Where:" section that tells you the actual file path to that piece of media; be sure that path begins with the name of your TC's drive, and not "Macintosh HD."
