Always 5.1 track audio

Using CS5.5 am having a problem with audio where whatever track I try to place stereo or mono audio material on from browser, it always lays it in a 5.1 track.
If I delete 5.1 tracks it just remakes them and puts the material there. The edit works ok, but I end up having to remove the empty mono and stereo tracks and work with 5,1 only. This is not just camera produced stereo but CD tracks and spot effects.
This seems to have happened after I worked up a sequence in 5.1 then found I had to buy a license to burn to Dolby 5.1, something that I was not prepared to do ( and was most annoyed that the license requirement was needed and not stated when buying the programme.. Vegas comes with it included).
This was about 4 projects ago. Since then the audio probem happens repeatedly.
Working generally in 1080P, originating direct from  AVHC cards, but as I say, it does not matter where the material comes from it always goes into 5.1 track and you cannot move it elsewhere afterwards..
Would really like to get over this problem and cannot find similar on the forum....over to the experts, I am a beginner having upgraded from Elements!
Thanks

Hi Stan, have mastered using screenshot to Forum I think!
Thank you for your instructions!
Here are the screenshots showing as best I can what happens when you add material. You will notice that the audio file is shown in the project window as a 5.1 although it is not, its stereo CD track,( see second screenshot of same file opened in Audition,) however on the monitor window it has opened as if it is a 5.1 with all other tracke empty. I have stretched the Project window so you can see the data
The last shot shows some video in place which is also unmovable into the tracks 1  to 3 because it has been labelled as 5.1, it is actually a download of a  ttle fromof a 1940's film, again actually mono material. Thanks for looking

  • Multicam editing with multi-track audio?

Does anyone know how to do multicam editing with multi-track audio?  Apparently, the multicam editor can only see Audio Track #1 in the Source Sequence.  I tried mixing my original audio tracks #1, #2, and #3 (submixes) to the master audio track in the Source Sequence and if I listen to the new Multicam Sequence (the nested Source Sequence) all 3 original audio tracks are there (combined), but when I go to do the multicam edit in the multicam monitor window, I"m back to just Audio Track #1 of the Source Sequence and audio tracks #2 and #3 are missing ???  Thanks for your help!

I have run the gambit of different techniques. The one that is most efficient is listed in Colin Brougham's response number 9
There's a far easier way to do this: after you sync your angles, hold down Alt/Opt and select or lasso just the video portions of the clips, and nest those. The audio stays put, but the video moves into the nest, and you can then enable Multicam on the nested sequence.
One of the best things about this is that it circumvents Premiere Pro's totally BS "Render Required Files" nonsense.
I must admit the ALT lasso tip was one of the best features I have seen. Like a revelation when I discovered it some months ago while watching a tutorial about something not related. As far as the "Rendering required files" That was kicking my but for a while doing multicam editing. If you do edit both audio and video in multicam you might find the "Rendering required files" issue. Basically the problem stems from having a lot of cuts to process at the same time both audio and video. 1080P is a huge amount of data when you multiply it by four cameras plus multiple audio cuts and effects ,(audio gain, Deessing etc.) So Pre-rendering the audio by clicking in the main sync timeline and then at the top Click Sequence/Render Audio. This takes care of the issue when you are cutting multiple tracks at once. It is a good practice to work from a main sync sequence and then copy that to a new sequence  preserving the main sequence as unchanged. I found the solution is to "render audio" only in the master sync sequence this will then pass through to all subsequent copies that are made "downstream" allowing you to easily clean up anything. If you make a mistake you can always start from the main sync sequence and not lose too much time. Takes a little bit of time to render but once that is done you can cut all tracks video and audio like butter. I have been doing a lot of 1080p multicam editing over this past year and had quite learning curve. Most of the work I do is multicam editing by choice it is much faster for me to edit this way because I am used to working in live events where we need to look at all shots at the same time make a "best choice" and keep rolling. Have fun with it!

  • Will Soundtrack Pro allow me to master multi-track audio CD?

Please help! I have been looking for the past 4 days for a multi-track audio editing software that will allow me to burn multiple tracks to a CD. Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a 45 minute message and I want to fade a song in at the beginning, and another song fading out at the end. Then I want to place markers every 10 minutes, split into separate tracks, and burn the whole thing to CD from within that software (possibly I can fudge on this last one by exporting each individual track to iTunes, then making a playlist, but if Soundtrack Pro or some other program can do it all, then that is what I prefer!)
I tried Audacity, and it was close to what I wanted, but when I exported into iTunes the last 20 seconds of every song dropped audio! I have also tried the following and these are the errors/difficulties I encountered:
    • Amadeus II : No multi-track mixing capability
    • Cacophony: kept crashing, multiple error messages
    • Jasmine: unique tape-style interface, but again, no multi-track export
    • Sound Studio 3: good interface, easy marking, but no sound after export
    • Snd Sampler: only one sound can be open at a time
    • Deck LE: wouldn't even open one of my audio files!
So now my attention is on Soundtrack Pro and Logic Pro. Both of these seem like they will have what I need, but I'm going to have to fork over a pretty penny. Which is better and will either do multi-track mixing to CD?
Thank you so much to anyone who will read through my whole ordeal and help me out with their musical expertise and sound audio advice!
    Sincerely,
    Paul

    Hello,
I thank you both for the help you've given, and I have obtained STP and really enjoy using it, but I am still disappointed that it will not allow me to master multiple tracks. For instance in Audacity, there is the export multiple command that splits one long song up according to the markers that you placed and then exports them as several different files. In STP, this same process is amazingly difficult, you have to take the razor tool, cut each section, drag it down to another track, then put a stop song marker after the cut section, then select each track and "export selected". (Do you know of an easier way?) Now for a $1200 dollar program that is just a little bit ridiculous, why cannot Apple just have a command to export by markers? Where can I go to request this feature be implemented?
Here's an example of what I am looking for, with features such as Redbook CD mastering (but this software is too buggy)

  • Music doesn't start when selected from playlist have to push pause then start. Always playing one track behind what is on screen

Music doesn't start when selected from playlist have to push pause then start. Always playing one track behind what is on screen as my I-pad worksorks fine

Same problem here, since upgrading to IOS-5.  Whenever I try to shuffle or play a genius mix (or even simply play an album) the iPod will skip the first one or two songs, play one song and then 'crash'.  I say 'crash' because it selects the next song and then nothing happens - the player isn't paused, and it appears to think it's playing, but the time bar doesn't change and no sounds come out.  Occasionally I've noticed the album artwork is wrong too.
Rebooting does NOT work - I've tried it a number of times.
Is this just an iPod problem??  If so, I would be surprised if Apple do anything quickly about it - they're more worried about iPhone problems I expect, and we (iPod users) are just the poor relations...  C'mon Apple - SORT IT OUT!!!!

  • Split Track Audio Output Problem

I'm trying to make a split track audio output as one requirement of the deliverables list on my current job. Dialog goes left, music right.
But even though I set up my sequence as two track mono, and have pre-panned the tracks all the way to the left (A1) and right (A2), I seem unable to make a quicktime that will play them as discrete tracks.
Inside Premiere, they play back properly -- A1 is coming out of the left speaker, A2 out of the right. No bleed or overlap.
I'm exporting them as quicktime, 2 mono tracks, ProRes 422. But when I play back the resulting quicktime -- voila, the tracks have been re-mixed together without my consent!
I've tried Media Encoder, with the same results.
FYI, In the "Channel Layout" section I've tried clicking both "mono" and "discrete" without any improvement. I feel like the problem might be that I'm choosing "Stereo" from the "Channels" popup, but there is no option for two channels that are not in stereo. It goes from mono to stereo to 3.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. Especially if they arrive soon!  : )
(Using Premiere Pro 2014.1 on a MacPro Quad Core 2.93GHz machine with 16GB of RAM.)

i'm experiencing the same issue since today.
very loud (nearly ear damaging) glitches on crossfades on audio channel. doesn't matter if mp3, aif, or wav.
plus one channel of stereo sometimes randomly gets louder on transitions for a short time.
is still there in export. no matter if directly from premiere or via media encoder. (export as prores 422 with uncompressed audio). disabled native ppro import in AME, didn't help
cleared all media caches and preview files, didn't help.
not using preview files for export.
read alot about this bug being in older version here on the forums, but it is still there in CC 2014 v8.0.1
    i am on osx 10.8.5.
    please help Adobe.

  • Multi track audio support on Apple TV

There appears to be a problem with Apple TV supporting multiple audio tracks. It looks like it has been a desired feature since Apple TV launched and even recently stated as working with the 2.3.1 update.
I'm a new owner of an Apple TV, I'm a little disappointed that the update didn't really add this support (support for multiple audio tracks is stated in the 2.3.1 update description and on the product description here: http://www.apple.com/appletv/whatson/movies.html).
I'm able to be patient since the product is still new to me, but it would be nice to hear some followup or statement on what exactly is going on with this feature (I know, "good luck", but I would think some response from apple would be in order only because they claim it's supported). I've looked around in the store and can't find any content that has extra audio tracks available and any video I create myself doesn't have support either.
So, is this a bug, by design, or did I just get duped into buying a product on false promises.
If anyone finds content in the store that has multiple audio tracks available and working, can you post it here?

Yah, I took note of that. That's really why I created this thread, in hopes that as soon as something with an alternate track is made available that someone would be so kind as to post it here.
But given all the problems everyone has with trying to get a video with multi track audio to work on apple tv, I'm not expecting one until at least another point release (or two or three).
Personally I don't think we've seen one because it simply doesn't work yet (and I want so badly to be proven wrong).

  • Adding audio instrument to 24-track audio template: no MIDI or sound

I've been trying to add an audio instrument track to what was originally a song that started out with the 24-track audio template in Logic.
I don't seem to have any trouble adding an audio instrument track, but when I then choose the audio instrument - and, yes, I have chosen an instrument, not just clicked on the track - I get no sound nor can I see any MIDI connection in the transport window.
Everything works fine on songs based on templates that start out with both audio and audio instruments. So, I'm wondering if there's something I need to add to the environment to allow the MIDI connection? I admit I'm not an expert once in the environment, but a quick glance seems to show the general MIDI already set up.
    I simply want to add a B3 to a band's rhythm track.
    Any help?
    TiBook 800   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

if you are getting midi into logic with other songs then there must be something missing in this song. open your environment to the click and ports layer and make sure there is a cable that runs out of the sum, of the Physical input to the Sequencer input (Record & Thru). there may be a couple other objects there like a keyboard and monitor object, just make sure everything is linked together.
    hope this helps

  • Continue Playing Track Audio, or have it fade out

I am putting together a demo DVD for my client, and after viewing it his complaint was that when he goes back to the menu while in the middle of a track the audio abruptly stops. Is there a way to either have the audio fade out before the dvd goes back to the menu, or better yet have that track audio continue playing until the viewer makes another selection? Thanks for the help.
    Mitch

Clients can be so silly can't they? No...since DVD is a linear technology, the laser must stop then refocus to the menu. During this time you will have an abrupt audio pause. Ever disc ever made is like this.

  • Always need to render audio on clip import

    Hi,
I use Streamclip or to convert my AVI files (from a digital camera) to DV so I don't have to render immediately on import. All works ok with the video, but I always need to render audio on import. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what settings to use on Streamclip and / or FCE?
    Thanks,
    g

Do not convert to DV. Convert to QuickTime using the DV codec. The export to DV setting in Streamclip is for DV Stream and is used only by iMovie.

  • Track audio using AIFF

Hi, I have a client who claims to be using the aiff files of his compressed mpeg2 files(from compressor) in DVD Studio Pro for track audio. The key is that he says that he never compresses the aiff files to AC3 format. I can't seem to figure out how this is possible. Is it maybe that DVDSP is automatically converting the aiff down to ac3 when he builds the DVD? It just wouldn't fit otherwise. Also, I would imagine the bitrate for running a mpeg2 at around 6mbps along with the aiff would be too much for the DVD spec.
    Any ideas?

No, DVDSP won't allow you to continue on. You will see from time to time posts here that run into that problem. They generally go something like this: "DVDSP stops in the middle of building with an error saying the bitrate is too high, what's up with that?" (forgive me for taking some liberty in the quote). What's happening is the user has aiff or wav for their audio, and somewhere in the video stream the two combined bitrates exceed the max allowed. It can be very frustrating, because it can happen anywhere in the stream, and you really have no idea where it's at. VBR encodes with DVDSP/compressor are the most notorious for putting bitrate spikes in the encode. CBR is better, but not immune. The solution is to either re-encode the video at a lower bitrate (not desirable, and takes a longer time and may or may not be low enough); or to compress the audio to ac3 (which generally gives enough 'head room' to get under the max allowed even if there are spikes).
The short answer to your question is that DVDSP won't allow you to make a non-compliant disc (based on bitrate allowances). It also is not very helpful in letting you know exactly where the problem is.

  • Best program for mlti-track audio

Does anyone know what Adobe program would work to create a multi-track audio interface?
The idea is to allow a user on a website to select what tracks are played.
    For example:
A four track audio file of a song including: track 1: lead guitar   Track 2: Rythm guitar   Track 3: Bass guitar  Track 4: Drums
The user could select all 4 tracks...or, if they wanted to play along with a lead guitar...select tracks 2,3 and 4.
Can I do that in Flash? Or what would be the best program for that?
    Thanks!!!
    Dignon

I haven't used the Isotope plug-in, but I use Brian Davies' Denoise which is a stand-alone cross-platform program: I found it much superior to SoundSoap. It's available in a free trial.
Declaration of interest: I have no financial interest in this program but was involved in the beta testing.
Together with the same author's ClickRepair it's possible to get remarkable results: this sample of a noisy 78 was treated with both programs.

  • Why I have to mute Audio Voice Recording Track always in order to subdue the voice recorded when I want to solo other tracks, audio or midi for listening. The other audio tracks don't sound without being muted. Please advise how to deal with this .Thanks

Why I have to mute the Audio Voice recording track  ( the first voice track ) always in order to sudue its recorded sound while I want to listen to other
tracks ( either audio or midi tracks ) in solo ?The other audio tracks with voice recording do not have to be muted in order not to  interfere with other
tracks turned on solo. Can someone kindly explain this phenomenon and any way to fix this ?
    Thanks
    Dan

    Thanks, ATR,
I wll try this--but I still am unclear on how to do what the Manual says is possible: select clips on another track that WILL be moved, if I so desire, so as to remain synched to the main Video track.
    UPDATE:
In the case of inserting Freeze Frame, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Put Video on Vid1 track
    2. Put Music on Sound Track
    3. Ran a few seconds of Vid
    4. Stopped Vid, selected Freeze Frame
    5. Held down Ctrl key while clicking "Insert in Movie"  also tried with holding down Alt key.
Result: a 3 second still was inserted int the Vid1 track.  A corresponding gap was created in the Sound Track.
    6. Slid the final part of the Sound Track to the left along the timeline to re-connect it to the next segment created by the above process.
Result: the video following the final Freeze Frame was pushed to the right end of  Video1 track.
    7. Slid the Sound Track all the way to the left.
Result: the entire Video 1 Track contents were pushed to the right and divided in pieces.
I documented each step with screen shots which I can send if you want them and if I can figure out how to do it.
    UPDATE #2
In the case of inserting a video clip to the Timeline, I just tried both Ctrl method and Alt method, and neither worked.
    1. Locate video in Project Assets
2a. R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), hold down Ctrl, click Insert to Timeline.
Result: Vid clip is inserted on Video 1 track, Sound Track is separated with a corresponding gap.
2b.  R click video in Project Assets (pull-down menu appears), push Alt
Result: pull-down menu disappears as soon as Alt is pushed down.
I can stil drag the Vid clip but it's one more manual step...I love shortcuts!!

  • Satellite Pro L20 doesn't work properly with USB Fast Track audio i.f.

    Hello!
I have used my Fast Track USB on new Toshiba Satellite L40 and I never had problems with it. I could set low latency and I did few songs with it.
Yesterday I bought another notebook, thinking of home recording studio. It's used Toshiba Satellite Pro L20. It doesn't work properly with my interface. When I listen music on Winamp or do anything on Fruity Loops I hear loud clicks, pops, noises. They introduce samples, or they appear during playback or after a sample is stopped.
I noticed, drivers for Satellite Pro L20 are a problem. Its not supported by Toshiba anymore?! The only drivers for chipset are very old and you can download em only from Toshiba website. The chipset is ATI Xpress 200M. Its drivers are with graphic card. Recently I noticed you can download "ATI Catalyst Legacy Display Driver for Windows XP - Motherboard/IGP Drivers 9.11" and CRACK IT to make it possible to install on mobile unit such as L20. Yep its funny but its impossible to do otherwise!
things I have tried and they still not help:
    # drivers replacement, original were released in 2004. I installed recent version.
    # driver settings, low latency, high latency
    # asio and different settings
    # pluging the interface to another usb socket.
    # trying what happens when I use battery and when I use adapter
    # updated bios
    # turned off onboard units such as wifi card, sound card
    # checked IRQ list
    pops still appear.
    my config:
    Toshiba Satellite Pro L20
    Win XP Home SP3
    Celeron M 1,5GHz
    896Mb ram
M-Audio Fast Track USB, drivers: 6.0.2
    Kind regards

Thanks for answer. I still have L40 but I try to run my homerecording on L20. The L40 is now used by whole my family. It's possible to swap them but there's a problem - L20 has Norway keyboard and I'm the only person at home who doesn't often look down while typing. In Poland, we use standard ms keyboard. I'd buy special stickers, it's about only to make special chars get back to their places.
I installed Windows on this computer end set it to best performance possible.
Since I created this thread, guys from M-Audio support tried to solve my problem - nothing helped. I think potential solutions are exhausted.

  • How To Track Audio Level by Keyframe Numerically

    Hi,
I want to change the track volume from time A to time B by submitting numeric values for track volume at time A and B, and let Premiere alter the track volume accordingly when playing back. Basically, how do I update the value of the keyframe numerically ? How is this done ?
When I place the time cursor in timeline and adjust the track volume in audio mixer and then hit the add-keyframe rhomb at the track head, then it creates a new keyframe, but not with the value of the track volume in the audio-mixer. Unless it was the very first keyframe i've created.
I do not want to alter volume keyframes by dragging, that is not working precise enough to even come close to the targeted volume setting.
I also do not want to record live track-slider changes in the Audio-Mixer.
At http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7f35a .html i saw "Adjust track volume with keyframes", but wasn't able to find any " ... Track > Volume from the drop-down menu at the head of the clip in the audio track", seems that corresponds to clip volume again and not to track volume.

Well, you may not be happy with my answer, but it is the only way I know of to enter the level by typing a number.
If you set the Track Mixer for that particular track to "Write" and enter the number you want, let's say -6 dB, then you press the play button on the timeline, when you stop the playback, the keyframes will have been set to that level. You can left and right arrow to get the job done also.
You may find that you will want to move the keyframes around after doing that, and you have to be careful not to overwrite the other keyframes, but it does work.

  • Can you export multi track audio using FCPX?

    hey guys
i can only find export audio under the "share" menu
and it has aiff, aac and mp3, no wav or omf and no options to include as multi tracks rather than a single stereo track or 5.1 surround
do you guys know of a way to export multiple tracks? without muting every track and export numerous times of course

Typed this hours ago and forgot to post it.....
Have actually done that and sent a test piece to the broadcaster. Not sure if I have got the audio tracks in the right order.... from top to bottom would that be audio tracks 1-4, with four at the bottom? I am waiting to hear back from the broadcaster to see if the test piece works as they expect it to.
