An adf bug ? 11.1.1.6.0

I used jdeveloper 11.1.1.6.0.
When i use the generic af:dragSource tag and an af:collectionDropTarget to drag and drop a row from one table,i found that the target table can not be scroll up/down.Anyone has similar experience ?
Also from the demo
http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/components/table/panelCollectionTreeTable.jspx?_afrLoop=2791084922750533&_afrWindowMode=0&Adf-Window-Id=w0#%2Fcomponents%2FdragSource.jspx%40%3FAdf-Window-Id%3Dw0
i can not scroll up/down the target table when i move the data from the source table to the target table.While this is not a better user experience.
If i want the target table have the ability to scroll up/down to move the data to the correct place,which other components should i use ?Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Thanks Timo.
Same issue in the 11.1.1.5.0.
Same issue in firefox 3.6.15,IE8,Chrome
Because our target table has so may data so i need it scroll up/down automatically so that i can move the data to the suitable place.

• ADF Bug? SelectOneChoice in af:column becomes null after refresh

Hello,
I just discovered a serious issue in my code (ADF 11.1.1.4/Windows 7). I was able to reproduce the issue using the following code :
I have a table mapped to a Widget ViewObject listing some widget definitions. On of the column represents the widget type id. I use an af:selectOneChoice and the widgetTypeId is mapped to the WidgetType ViewObject (the category name is displayed)

widgetId++;
vo.setWhereClause("WIDGET_ID="+widgetId);
vo.executeQuery();
}Now the issue : if I open the page, the entire widget table is displayed. I click on 'next' and the first record is displayed with correct name and type. If a do a refresh by hitting F5, the action is re-executed and the second row is displayed, also with correct name and type. But if I select 'previous', I come back to the first row but the type is now set to null(0).
Can you tell me if this code is correct and if yes : are you able to reproduce it? / is this an ADF bug?
Thank you

Frank,
The backing bean is session scoped.
I tried a second solution using af:iterator and af:selectItem instead of af:selectItems :

<iterator Binds="WidgetTypeView1" RangeSize="-1"
DataControl="AppModuleDataControl" id="WidgetTypeView1Iterator"/>

• Lifecycle issue with table binding + read-only attributes: ADF BUG

Hello all,
I have found what I believe to be an easily reproducible bug in ADF that reproduces in 10.1.3.x, but not in 11g (at least not in drop 6). The best way to describe the bug would be to walk through a simple set of steps to reproduce the bug:
1). Create a new application (ADF BC + ADF Faces).
2). In the model project, create a new Entity Object from the Employee table in the default HR schema. Allow JDev to create an updatable view object and an AM as well.
3). Put a validation rule on the first name attribute of the EO (can be anything, really - I made mine so that the first name cannot be "foo").
4). Test everything using the BC tester if you like.
5). In the UI project, create a new JSPX page.
6). Drag the updatable VO on to your page as an updatable af:table.
7). Put an af:commandButton on the page. Bind its Action or ActionListener to a method in a new backing bean. Put some simple code (I used System.out.println) in the backing bean method.
8). Run the jspx page.
9). Put some invalid data in (e.g. "foo" in the first name field) and click the af:commandButton. Verify that you get an error message and that the Action/ActionListener method DOES NOT fire. So far, so good.
10). Now, to demonstrate the problem. First, look at the page definition for the jspx file. Identify the first attribute that is mentioned (in my case, it was the employee id).
11). Go to the updatable view object and make the attribute from #10 read-only or updatable when new only.
12. Now, repeat step 9 - you should see the error message AND also see that the Action/ActionListener method was executed. You will also see in the messages window that ADF attempted to set the value of the read-only attribute, and thus got a ReadOnlyAttrException.
This issue only happens if the first attribute mentioned in the table binding is read-only. A workaround would simply be to re-order the attributes in the table binding of the pagedef so that the first attribute isn't read-only.
Don't ask how I figured this out ;)
Best,
John

Hi Frank,
Yes, I simply scripted it out this way to contrast the behaviour if the first attribute was read-only vs not read-only. I found the issue on a page in our app that was simply drag-and-drop the VO from the data control on the page.
It's quite annoying, because our particular use case that hit this error is a "save" button on the page. If the commit operation doesn't return any errors (and it doesn't in this use case!), we add a JSF message saying "save successful" - then the attribute errors are further added later in the page lifecycle, so we get 3 messages: "Save successful" and "Fix this error" and "Tried to set read-only attribute" - quite confusing to the end-user when the only message they should see is "fix this error."
At any rate, the fix is to simply re-order the attributes in the page definition - that doesn't affect the UI at all, other than to fix this issue.

• Format issue for Number field in af:query. Is it an ADF Bug?

Hi OTN,
Requirement : Format DepartmentId in query panel
I have created a view criteria from Employees table (HR Schema). I have four view criteria items called EmployeeId, DepartmentId, Firstname, LastName and all the items having validation property as Selectively Required. DepartmentId attribute have UI Hints property as Format Type = Number and Format = *0000* and Auto Submit=true.
But in UI, I am not able to do search from af:Query panel. It works fine without setting UI Hints property Format Type* and Format
Step 1 : Enter 123 in DepartmentId field
Step 2 : Click Search Button
Error : Please provide a value for atleast one of the indicated fields

• ShowPrintablePageBehavior is not working inside popup. Is it an ADF Bug?

Hi,
I am facing some issues with showPrintablePageBehavior component.
1. I have placed a command button with showPrintablePageBehavior inside a popup. But I am getting a blank page in print mode. But the showPrintablePageBehavior is working fine without popup.
2. I have a pivot table with a button having showPrintablePageBehavior and these components are surrounded with panelSplitter. But pivot table is not rendering in print mode.
Using JDeveloper 11.1.1.5.0 / 11.1.1.6 - adfbc

Thank you Srinivas,
Point 1.
I wanted to print the content of popup. So I have placed an af:outputText text inside af:panelSplitter component. But this layout is not rendering in print mode while printing from a popup ant it works without popup.
Point 2.
I have downloaded and deployed oracle dvt-demo war into my local wls.I can see the same issue (pivot table is not rendering in print mode) in my local deployed version.
Thanks,

• Adf Bug in Jdeveloper 11.1.1.2

When I created an adf binding as detailed in the below article
http://blogs.oracle.com/jaylee/2009/08/invoking_composite_from_javajs.html
The service was created fine but I got an error below in the composite design
Adapter [adf.binding] missing AdapterType icon20x20 entry
Everything still works fine except for the above error message. I did not get this error in JDeveloper 11.1.1.1

Ok I' think I found the problem.
The WLS now enforces a new complexity algorithm for the passwords whereas
JDeveloper only enforces an 8 character password.
I change the password in JDevloper so that it complied to the WLS rules (ie. 8 characters, at least 1 upper-case letter and one "number" character)
and now and application functions.

• Refreshing/clearing iterator (ADF bug?)

Hi,
I have three cascading SelectOneChoice lists.
List A
List B
List C
The user can select a value in List A, which Populates List B and List C. The user can then select a value in List B, which then narrows down the contents of List C. The problem is that list C now contains the results from the List A event and the List B event, instead of just containing the results of the new query.
I am using EJB3, ADF Faces
many thanks
R

Just realised that it's not a problem of not being able to refresh the iterator - I can - it's that the iterator still contains the data from the previous query... AND then the data from the requery. All I need to know is how to empty the contents of the iterator?
Come on expert Oracles, I'm feeling lonely here :-)

• Workaround to bugs in ADFPhaseListener

I've developed a nasty but perfectly working workaround to two ADF bugs described here:
* Binding container not initialized after navigation: Navigating does not initialize BindingContainer
* Exceptions ignored in ControllerClass: Bug(?): Exceptions ignored in ControllerClass
The solution replaces the oracle.adf.controller.faces.lifecycle.ADFPhaseListener class. The source for this class is available in $JDEV_HOME/adfc/src/adf-controllersrc.zip. I modified the before() method in RenderResponsePhase object (original line 388):
public void before(FacesContext context)
LifecycleContext lfContext = null;
loop:
while (true) {
UIViewRoot newViewRoot = context.getViewRoot();
UIViewRoot viewRoot = getViewRoot(context);
lfContext = getLifecycleContext(context);
// Detect if nagivation occured
// If the view going to be rendered is different from the one that
// has being prepared, refreshed the old one.
if (newViewRoot != viewRoot)
if (lfContext != null)
putViewRoot(context, newViewRoot);
// Create a new context for the new view
Map envMap = ADFPhaseListener.this.getEnvMap(context);
try
lfContext = LifecycleContext.getInstance(envMap);
catch (Exception ex)
if (lfContext != null) {
putLifecycleContext(context, lfContext);
// Execute the INIT_CONTEXT phase
executePhase(INIT_CONTEXT, lfContext);
// Execute the PREPARE_MODEL phase of the new view.
executePhase(PREPARE_MODEL, lfContext);
else break loop;
// Event might had been updated in case of navigation.
if (lfContext != null)
// Execute the PREPARE_RENDER phase.
executePhase(PREPARE_RENDER, lfContext);
} // End of before methodIt reinitializes the context in loop until it is not changed. And ignores exceptions only in LifecycleContext.getInstance method. To avoid ignoring exceptions in after() method of RestoreViewPhase, it needs to be replaced as well (original line 298):
public void after(FacesContext context)
UIViewRoot viewRoot = context.getViewRoot();
String viewId = (viewRoot != null) ? viewRoot.getViewId() : null;
if (viewId == null)
return;
HttpSession session =
(HttpSession) context.getExternalContext().getSession(false);
if (session == null)
return;
// Store the current view root so that we can detect if navigation
// occured when we execute the before RenderResponse.
putViewRoot(context, viewRoot);
Map envMap = ADFPhaseListener.this.getEnvMap(context);
LifecycleContext lfContext = null;
try
lfContext = LifecycleContext.getInstance(envMap);
catch (Exception ex)
if (lfContext != null) {
putLifecycleContext(context, lfContext);
// Execute the INIT_CONTEXT phase
executePhase(INIT_CONTEXT, lfContext);
// Execute the PREPARE_MODEL phase
executePhase(PREPARE_MODEL, lfContext);
} // End of after methodI created the class in my own package and replaced the reference in faces-config.xml.
The line numbers refer to JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4 (SU5). The class is changed in 10.1.3.1.0, so you will need to copy the new source and modify the methods again. But I could not conceive anything better... I hope, that this code will get to the original code of ADFPhaseListener, I don't reserve any rights, so go on, guys!

Question to guys from Oracle: what do you think about including these features to next release of ADF?

• ADF Error Messages

I have a situation, i have a jsp which calls a popup which calls another popup.
When i throw less than 6 adf error messages and i close the first popup it does call the return from dialog listener and the jsp is not re-rendered.
But when i throw more than 6 adf error messages (own field validation errors) on any of the 2 popups, and when i close the first popup, it wont call the return from dialog listener from de jsp backed bean and the jsp is re-rendered.
Does anyone knows why is this happening, or if this is an adf bug or something?
I appreciate your help,
Thanks

Hi
For the feedback that I have from colleagues using ADF, the popup are not trusties and seem to have some problems.
In my current project I'm having similar example problem as you. The return listener are not called, instead the page is re-rendered.
It just happens if I do some particular combination of commands, and for similar combination of commands it works fine. Its just weired.

• [ADF] Focus not getting set on second level dialog/popup

Hi,
While working on a related bug, I've discovered that for every second level dialog/popup(a popup that is invoked from another popup), the focus does not get set to the second level dialog if the first component in that popup is an inputText, unless a user explicitly clicks on it. By focus I mean that on pressing tab, the fields on the previous popup still get selected/highlighted.
This does not happen if the first UI Component is any other; everything else kept the same. I suspect this is an ADF bug; does anyone know of a workaround?
Thanks,

Hello,
we are having the same issue using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 and Internet Explorer 8.
The code is really simple: just a regular popup with an inputListOfValues component inside. Open the popup, open the inputListOfValue's "Search and Select" popup and if you press the Esc key, the first one will be closed, while the "Search and select" popup will remain there.

• Problem with Bind Variable not updatable.

Hi all,
I'm using Jdev 11.1.2.3.0. In my VO, I created a Bind Variable and set it NOT UPDATABLE. Then I created a View Criteria with some other Bind Variables.
I use this View Criteria in a search page, but at runtime I see also an inpunt text for the variable that is set NOT UPDATABLE and I can change its value.
Of course if I try to change the value and I do the search, I get an error.
This is the VO source:
<Variable
Name="UlssVar"
Kind="where"
Type="java.lang.String"
IsUpdateable="false">
<TransientExpression><![CDATA[adf.context.current.sessionScope.get('ulss')]]></TransientExpression>
</Variable>
Is it a ADF bug?
Thank in advance.

Hi,
try selecting the bind variable and open the Property Inspector, under UI Hints, set the "Display Hint" to hide. This should hide it (No bug for this reason)

• Need help with my usecase based on transient ViewObject

I am using 11.1.1.4.0 Jdev version. I need help with my usecase.Been trying it for 2 days but couldn't figure out the issue.
I have a transientVO . In this VO Rows will be populated programmatically. CountryId is an attribute of this VO. I have created a viewAccessor "CountriesVA" from Country VO of HR schema.
I have a LOV for the countryId which is based on this VA ,getting countries from CountryTable.
This is the model part which works fine.
Before the page load i have called a method to create a row for this transientVO.Once the row is created i can see the SOC in my page which i have created as below.
Now i want to insert a row in the transientVO if user selects a country and restrict duplicate entry . (As One row is already created 1st time there will be no rows created.after that rows will be inserted)
The issue is :: Suppose there are 2 countries. A & B .When user does the following actions :
Insert A . Done //as 1st entry
Insert B . Done //as 1st time entry
Insert A . duplicate not inserted
Insert B . getting inserted // the bug.
<af:selectOneChoice value="#{bindings.CountryId.inputValue}"
label="#{bindings.CountryId.label}"
required="#{bindings.CountryId.hints.mandatory}"

System.err.println(duplicate);
duplicate=false;
}else{
rsi.setCurrentRow(row);
if(!duplicate){
//get handle to the last row
Row lastRow = rsi.last();
//obtain the index of the last row
int lastRowIndex = rsi.getRangeIndexOf(lastRow);
//create a new row
Row newRow = rsi.createRow();

rsi.insertRowAtRangeIndex(lastRowIndex +1, newRow);
//make row the current row so it is displayed correctly
rsi.setCurrentRow(newRow);

I read the reply from Andrejus Baranovskis and thought of studying and implementing that in my useCase.Well it worked . I implemented the same Logic but rowIteration was done in AppModule.

9.7.6 What You May Need to Know About Programmatic Row Set Iteration
The problem is solved ,the above links helped me solve the problem.
what i did is i have created a method in appmodule to iterate rows and all the method y operation bindings and my logic works fine ....
MY Advice to all Adf developers ,though i am not an expert but i can assure you to follow the above process for rowIteration.If you use the iterator binding in the manage bean to navigate the rows u'll face issues which are unexpected.
In AppModule :::::
public boolean createRow(String oldValue,String newValue){
System.err.println(oldValue+""+newValue);
ViewObjectImpl vo=getViewObj1();
boolean duplicate=false;
if(oldValue!=null){
RowSetIterator iter = vo.createRowSetIterator(null);
System.err.println("iterating rows ");
while (iter.hasNext()) {
Row r = iter.next();
System.err.println(iter.getRangeIndexOf(r)+" row is "+r.getAttribute("CountryId"));
if(r.getAttribute("CountryId").toString().equals(newValue)){
duplicate=true;
break;
// Do something with the current row.
// close secondary row set iterator
iter.closeRowSetIterator();
return duplicate;
In ManageBean :::::
public void countryIdVC(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
// Add event code here...
String oldValue=null;
System.err.println("Old Value"+valueChangeEvent.getOldValue());
setEL("#{bindings.CountryId.inputValue}", valueChangeEvent.getOldValue());
if(evaluateEL("#{bindings.CountryId.attributeValue}")!=null)
oldValue =evaluateEL("#{bindings.CountryId.attributeValue}").toString();
setEL("#{bindings.CountryId.inputValue}", valueChangeEvent.getNewValue());
String newValue=evaluateEL("#{bindings.CountryId.attributeValue}").toString();
BindingContainer bindings = BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
//access the name of the iterator the table is bound to. Its "allDepartmentsIterator"
//in this sample
DCIteratorBinding dciter = (DCIteratorBinding) bindings.get("ViewObj1Iterator");
//access the underlying RowSetIterator
RowSetIterator rsi = dciter.getRowSetIterator();
if(oldValue!=null){
rsi.getCurrentRow().setAttribute("CountryId", oldValue);

operation.getParamsMap().put("newValue", newValue);

• Weblogic server 10.3.6 or 10.3.5?

Hi
We are currently on web logic server 10.3.5. JDK 1.6 is certified for this.
As part of OBIEE upgrade from 11.1.1.5 to 11.1.1.6.2 we are looking at upgrading web logic server to 10.3.6.
If we do this then we must also upgrade JDK to 1.7.
Has anyone done this? Are there significant benefits to doing so, or should we just leave WLS to 10.3.5 and save ourselves having to upgrade JDK too?
Thanks for any tips,
DA.

• Custom event in popup w/ dynamic region does not reach its server listener

Here's the situation:
I have a fragment taskflow. Inside this taskflow's fragment, I am firing 2 custom client event that is being listened to by 2 server listeners. All of these are working fine when I use the taskflow as a region on a page. But when I use it as a dynamic region inside a popup, only the first event gets processed, the second one(and all subsequent ones) don't reach their respective server listeners.
Additional detail, all 2 custom events are on the same component(an inputText).
Is this an ADF bug or am I doing something wrong?
