Animating graph in motion 2

I'm trying to animate a graph in Motion 2. It is a growing line (curved graph line) Any idea on how to do this? Also, it would be nice to have dots appear on the line as it grows.

    Hi all,
    I am trying to replicate an effect that a previous video editor did in a project, but I can't contact them.
    They made animated text in Live Type, and saved it as a QT movie. When this text is placed over existing video in the FCP project, the text is "transparent", basically it acts like text created in FCP (You can see the background image behind the text, like through the middle of the letter "o").
    I have made some animated text in Motion, but when I save it as a QT movie, and bring it into FCP, the whole 1280x720 screen is covered by this movie, and I have to crop it so it does not cover the background image. It is all black except for the text. And of course the text is not on a transparent layer. Any ideas how I can create this effect with animated text? I've tried messing with transparency and overlay settings, nothing seems to work.

    Just bring the Motion (.motn) project into FCP and lay it over your clip.
    The QT you're exporting has to carry the alpha channel (animation codec, million+ colors), but don't waste your time/disk space with that. Just bring the motion project into FCP.

  • What's the easiest way to do an animated arrow in Motion 3?

    Does anyone know how to animate an arrow in Motion 3 where you would see an arrow snaking its way across a map to illustrate an invading army.
    I don't mean a mask where you reveal an arrow, but instead an animated arrow actually growing in length and snaking its way forward with the spear moving ahead as the body gets longer and longer.

    Yes paint style will animate the head of your arrow.
    *Your pen must be solid brush.*
    look in the inspector for Shape/Style
    check for ending style or something like that at the bottom
    (I'm not in front of the machine , and it's a french one)
    there are 2 cursors called something like: with and length
    twiking this two will make an arrow from the head of your line
    Last Point offset will animate it.
    If my explanation won't fit, try to load an HD model with arrows and check how they've done it

  • Combine multiple animations/moving a motion tween path location

    I have three similar animations that are stalling on preload as it's referencing the data from dropbox. We thought that it might be faster if it loaded only once, so I am now trying to combine the animations into a single scene. I'm having trouble copying and pasting the animation. I'm not quite sure where the problem originates from. I did, originally, successfully reproduce the animation and apply it to the separate elements when making them on separate stages, but now I see one of the elements (I'll call it GREEN) has a motion tween, and I'm not sure why the others (ORANGE and BLUE) are set to X, Y motion. I specifically recall having created them via motion tween, but at least they are still moving the way I created them to.
    When I copy and paste > All, GREEN (with its motion tween) is placed on the stage at X=45 coordinate, and i need the whole path to be moved over to X=643. When I drag, it only affects the current location, plus there are a couple of "points" on the line that don't have keyframes associated with them, so it has been nerving to try and set them this way. Is there a way to do this?

    No problem!
    So do you notice how your blueballoonCopy has those chevron marks on the timeline? That's an indication of duration in a container such as a symbol or audio element. In your case, it's a total 30 sec. of transitions, and it's a symbol. When you want to loop things differently, they should be in their own timelines, i.e. in their own symbols.
    You should do two things to get this set up:
    Convert blueballoonCopy and GREEN_KIDS_BALLOONCopy3 into a single symbol, since they will both loop endlessly from the loopGrn label to the end. Put the playhead over the loopGrn label, then select it and the trigger at the end and cut them (Edit > Cut), and then double-click on the symbol on Stage to edit it and with the playhead at the same place, paste the label and trigger. You should now have the label at 26 sec., and the trigger at the end of the timeline. Navigate back to the Stage timeline, and these two elements will now loop endlessly in the brower.
    Now convert your orange_balloon element into a symbol - that will put all of its animation inside the symbol. If you want the entire animation loop twice, add a single play action to the end of the chevron (duration indicator). If you want only a part of it to loop, use a single play from action instead, and enter the timecode or label to which you want to loop back.
    And now you'll have those two elements looping continuously, and the orange_balloon symbol looping just once.

  • Animation Tween Problem - Motion am I missing somthing..?

    Screen shots, a simple fly-in, keep move slowly, then fly out, but for some crazy reason Premiere keeps creating a tween that does not exist and adding a bounce that looks pants... this is very, very simple animation it surely should not be doing this, or am I missing somthing, equally I'd love to have motion splines can I switch them on as this would likely fix the issue...

    If I add an additional manual tween, it just replicates the problem further, so I end up with two bounces I don't want. Any help would be peachy,

    Well found the linear option etc, right click, but cannot find temporal & spatail, it would just be nice to have a spline on the motion position. To be frank Premiere's behaviour is just being odd in gerneral Ann. It just lost keyframes on the button/Badge element. Well there was none there but the animation still remained uneditable. Going to reload the project, but think it's likely best I pop out to After Effects for the Motion Graphics, or it will drive me bonkers lol

  • How do I render out in Animation codec from Motion 5 ?

    Hi - Just got Motion 5 and I noticed that to render out there don't seem to be as many codec options for Quicktime as in previous versions of Motion. Am I missing something here? For eg there doesn't seem to be any way to render out in Animation codec.
    Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

  • Animated Graphs looking terrible after exporting

    Hello Anyone,
    I've created an graph in Numbers and brought it across to Keynote and applied an animation effect. Then I exported as a Quicktime Movie using a few different Codecs. All look fine and crystal clear when played in Quicktime. But when I import it into FCP it appears okay in the viewer but terrible when in the Canvas even after rendering. I've tried exporting in various formats from FCP, but I'm still unable to get a satifactory result without it looking terrible. Surely there is a way?????

    OK...now for the second part...are you looking at this, and judging the quality of the image based on what you see in the Canvas? That is one of the worse places to judge the quality of the image.

    ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
    The canvas shows you what happens after the codec you are working with has been applied. The viewer shows you the material in its native format.
    1. Disable overlays on the canvas
    2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline

    Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.

  • Animation Graph Options

    Hi Everyone,
    I looked around a little and couldn't find my answer exactly.
    I have a graph with 4 series bars. I want each of these bars to grow one by one (on click), but after each one grows I'd like to animate a text box coming in saying the exact amount.
    Can this be done? On inspector when I click "More Options" I can't exactly drag the number to appear in between each series grow.

    Select the chart on the slide then open the inspector. Click "More Options" to open the "Build Order" drawer.
    Click on "Build In" and select "Grow" effect or whatever effect you want.
    Under "Delivery" choose "By Series". Click the "Set timing and order for each build" box.
    You'll see the timings for each series in the drawer. You can now select your text box, select a "Build In" effect, and drag the text build in the drawer to between the build timings of each series.

  • How do you embed an image inside an animated arrow in Motion?

    I just designed an arrow by using the b-spline tool and selected "arrow" for my end-cap.
    Is it possible to embed an image into my arrow?
    I am working on a WWII documentary about North Africa and I have this map animation sequence of North Africa where I need arrows (armies) to have the British, American, Nazi flags embedded into them. I have no idea how to do this. Please any hlep would be much appreciated.

    Howdy,
    Adam pretty much described this, already. You want to take a flag image (or maybe a tiled grid of a bunch of little flags, whatever), then apply and image mask to it, then make the arrow shape the reference for the mask. One more time for the people in the cheap seats:
    1. Apply an image mask to the flags (Object->Add Image Mask or CmdShftM).
    2. Select the image mask object and view the Image Mask tab in the Inspector.
    3. From the Layers List, drag-and-drop the arrow shape into the Mask Source image well.
    By default, the mask is applied with Stencil enabled (also found in the Inspector), so the mask will be lined up with the position of your arrow shape object.

    I am trying to set up the scale and positon of a clip with motion, and then getting this to change to new positon and scale over a fixed duration. I can find no way of doing this unless I am missing something very obvious.

    Hi all,
    I played around a bit in motion and I was wondering how they managed to get that 'lavalamp' effect in the video in the welcome window of motion?
    (The blue video to the left of the window?)
    What is done to the particles to make the small circles behave like leaves on a windy street while moving upwards? How are the 'northern lights' in the background done?
    Can anyone help me with this?

    cool...Cool...COOL! Good job, Patrick. I made a couple MINOR tweaks. On the "orbit around" behavior", I changed the x velocity to 65, the influence to 1881 and the air drag to .63

However, I would also like to graph its motion beside it (using moveTo and lineTo, you can see these two lines above) but no lines at all appear on the screen. The idea is that on each new frame a portion of the line graph is added (i.e. from the old y position to the new y position, also adding on an equal x increment each time as we move along the time axis.
    Any help on this would be really appreciated - I am very keen to move away from technologies such as Flash, but at the moment I am finding JFX a bit difficult.

    aheem...well! then how about this animation...I think I know what you are trying to do then. If I'm not mistaken, you are trying to do what the Ti-83 can do when graphing.

  • 2D animation. Motion path+Appearing/Dissappearing Object

    Hey everyone, Looking for a simple (Flash is very complex-Power Point is too simple to do what i want) 2D animation software with Motion Path and "Appearing/Disappearing" objects. I have been looking for something that is actually easy to use but everything i find has a learning curve the size of titanic... I'm new to the subject (2d animation) and had no idea where to ask for help :/
    - I made a GIF showing something similar to what i want, it's a very simple GIF but should give you an idea of what i want to make.
    After watching i hope you will also understand why i am not happy about having to learn how to use something like Adobe EE or Flash.

    Are you asking for help in learning AE or are you asking for an alternative animation tool?
    If you want to learn AE, it's pretty complex, but not impossible. I'd go through these resources first: Getting started with After Effects

    hey all this prob. a stupid question but how do you animate just one point in a mask? or a shape like if i have a star and I want 2 of the tips to grow how would i do that with it? I know how to do it in AfterAffects but cant figure it out in motion. Thanks again for the help.

    To animate a mask point simply turn on Record Keyframes (A) and then place the playhead in the mini timeline where you want the move to end and move the points you want to move. Very simple. It's the same as animating anything in Motion by keyframing.
