Annoying International Phone calls!

Is there any way I can block international and withheld number calls? I was being hassled at my old address by phone calls from an Indian call centre claiming to be working for microsoft, asking me to let them check my computer for a fault. I know its a scam so I obviously put the phone down. When I moved, I took out some privacy thing, can't remeber what its called...but I thought this would stop all these calls...but they have started again! Can anyone help???

As keith has said do a search, but use "Nuisance Call Blocker", get more results.
BUT, BUT, BUT, do your research BEFORE you buy, they all have there good points and they all have there bad points, even if the bad point is cost.

  • HT1937 why I can receive international phone calls?

I can receive international phone calls after I updated the IOS 6 to my iphone 4s.. is anyone having the same problem?

Hmm, I wonder what the issue is.  You say "I can receive international phone calls ..."  I think that's perfectly normal.
Maybe you mean you cannot receive international phone calls.

  • Free international phone calls

recently received a letter stating that if you had xfinity voice phone service, you would be able to make "free" calls to Singapore.  Yet when i explored the international rates, they reflected a $0.12 charger per minute??????

  • Phone call scam

I have just received an international phone call from a lady who said she was from the local internet exchange on behalf of BT, Virgin, TalkTalk etc., and everytime I switch on my computer there are corrupted files at the main server. She wanted me to log in to a website so that they could help me rectify this problem.
I asked her if she knew my BT account number because I was suspicious and she then became rather agressive and eventually hung up.
I am positive this was a scam, anyone else heard of it?

what time did you receive the call? did you get the phone number? did you report to the authority?
    Hi whitefalcon
It was around 4pm when I received the call. There was no phone number showing on the call, it just said "international" I have phoned BT to report the call but the call centre operator didn't seem to be much interested and just told me that BT wouldn't phone without using my name and quoting my account number etc.
    Hi again.
I'm afraid that there is virtually nothing BT can do about this. These scammers pretend to be legitimate people, and I have got details about what they try and get people to do (as I pretended to do all I was asked when I had one).
The call could be from anywhere, including internet calls etc. The originating number may not even be fully presented since not all countries have that facility, or can't be trusted to present the full number properly or completely.
The thing to do is either play along and do nothing, or just hang up. You could try asking them for a number to call them back on as you're about to go out.
You can say you use Linux or a Mac. You can ask them how they know that your computer was infected and how they associated your phone number with a problem. Ask them for exact details and give nothing away.
If you don't like playing games with these buffoons, then just hang up.

When you said you have no fax machines on your line, that does include computers directly connected to the phone line?
The reason that I ask is a computer with a dial-up modem (a non broadband modem) that can connect to your phone line, can have software that makes the computer act as a fax machine.

Please help after updating my iphone 4 to ios 5.01 I cannot make phone calls or receive phone calls anymore, please help, I am so annoyed first battery and now can't make calls!

The same thing is happening with my wife's iPhone 4 and we can't figure it out. When placing a call, the screen freezes and she needs to restart the entire phone.
She upgraded to 5.01 this morning over the air while it was plugged in. Immediately afterwards, this problem started happening. We've tried restarting the phone several times and plugged in to iTunes but there's nothing she can do do to fix it.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

annoying phone calls from this number  0390396597 when attempt to reply telstra says it does not recognise number. managed to get through this morning 2am left message not to phone again HERE'S HOPING

  • When making a phone call, the other end of the line hears a strange dial up sounding noise. Its loud and quite annoying. What do i do?!

Loud screechy noises are heard on the other end of the line when my iphone 4s is in a phone call. It has to be my phone because multiple people and myself have confirmed hearing it. Its sounds like dial-up. BUT REALLY LOUD!

I just replied to a similar post and I'll copy and paste my response here. I was having the same exact issue. Here is my possible fix.
Yesterday I updated the OS to the latest release. Then right after that I called AT&T and they reset my sim card. Or something like that. They did some sort of reset.
I then got in my car and drove around to test the phone. Because that is when the problem is worse. FINALLY they claim to be able to hear me clearly!!!!
I think it was the combination of both the OS update and the sim card reset that fixed it. Hopefully..... It has only been one day but so far so good. I'll update this post if things change.
Try this and let us know if this works for you.

    Hi Pauler66,
    Welcome to the community,
I suggest a Safemode boot, and then performing a diagnostics test on the in ear speaker, as it seems your issue is related to this and not the 3.5mm jack.
To get to diagnostics do the following.
Menu > Settings > About Phone > Diagnostics > Phone Tests > In ear Speaker.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Annoying phones calls

I am getting strange phone calls every day from somebody or something that calls me, and I only hear what I can guess is static or something strange (no background sounds - like an office etc) and then it cuts off after 5 or so seconds only to phone back immediately after again with same results.
I tried doing a 1471 on it, and it doesn't even recognise that my number been called as it said the last call was the previous day.
I am on the T.P.S. and have been for ages (years).
Anybody have any clue at all what is going on?
    Thanks,
    Andrew "Richard" Mills

  • CALLER ID not working for International incoming calls

    Regards

You didn't mention what country your Online Number is in.  Not all of Skype's Online Numbers are eligible for use as Caller ID when calling telephones or sending SMS messages.  If your number is from one of these countries (Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Hong Kong, Poland, Sweden, the UK and the US), then it can be used this way.  Otherwise, you can use a mobile number from countries other than Japan or Mexico as Caller ID with Skype, after the number goes through a verification process where Skype sends SMS messages with codes to that number.
To get to these settings, log into your Skype account here on the Skype web site using the "Account" link at the top of this page.  You'll see a screen that would include your current Caller ID settings, and a link to change that.  If your Online Number is from one of those countries I referenced above, just select it and you're done.
    Hope that helps!

  • Why does it take 22 phone calls and leaving BT to ...

I used to have BT broadband option 3.  For this I required a phone line, I made around 3 phone calls a year from it.
Last year in May some bright spark in BT decided to merge my phone and broadband accounts.  I had been paying the correct amount of around 40 pounds a month for my line rental and broadband (+vat) until this point.  When they made this "merge" they upped my monthly payments to 71.50.  (I found this out much later after many many many frustrating phone calls)
I only noticed this overcharging in January when a bill of 71.50 was DD'd from my account.  I then noticed this had happened for most of last year.  I was refunded the 200 pounds my account was in credit at the time.  I asked the person on the phone to set my direct debit to take the correct monthly account.  He said he would.
What I expected was billing like so:
    Feb 40 pounds
    Mar 40 pounds
    Apr 40 pounds
Its not rocket science.  Its not hard.  Am I missing something?  Was my request too difficult?   I had paid monthly by direct debit since I have had a phone line.
On the 21st of January my account was debited £117.70 by BT.  This was on top of the £71.50 already taken earlier in the month.  It was directly before my payday and put me overdrawn with my bank who charged me for the pleasure.  The bank refunded the amount.
I was about to go on holiday and called BT billing who apologised and stated clearly that I could call back in February to arrange the correct billing, that they were sorry and would put notes on my account to ensure no further attempt was made to take the incorrect amount.
While on holiday ..... an incompetant person in BT billing emailed me to say that she would be trying to take the £117.50 from my account "in the next few days".  So, while on my holiday I had to ensure this did not happen by contacting this BT billing department.  I cancelled the BT direct debitat this time.
After calling BT around 15 more times, speaking to various levels of incompetance i was finally told in Mid February  that I had been switched to quarterly billing, but on a monthly direct debit:  I was being charged for 3 months use up front and nothing could be done, I had to live with their mistake.  Could I please pay up the £117.50 or I risked interuption of service ... which was a shame .... as after so many phone calls I had already put the wheels in motion to leave for Sky ....
Calling for my MAC code the poor lady offered me broadband at half price to keep me, at which I had to respond that she could offer it to me for free but I had no confidence that would be what appeared on my bill or what would be taken from my bank account.  The billing department is the sole reason for my leaving.
So, I had left BT in mid February.  Despite this, the billing department still insisted that I pay the £117.50 for the period "up to the 31st March".  On pointing out that I would not pay for a service I was no longer receiving and could they produce a bill up to the 16th February, I am told "oh no, you must pay in advance and then we will kindly refund you the money".
Amazing ... pay up front for a service I no longer receive and hope the company repays me?  Considering my confidence in their handling of money ...  Heck no ...
I am told they will produce a final bill, "within 14 working days" (such speed!) which may ... oh so kind of them .. have the correct amount I owe them on it.
So after a few more frsutrating phone calls where I am demanding a bill, it transpires that BT have been sending my bills to the WRONG address.  It appears that despite using the home move service some years ago and BT moving my phone line from one property to another that BT billing live on another planet and never received this news and were sending my bills to my old property.  I was asked "Can you not go to the property and ask for the bills".   My patience had now pretty much run out.  I just wanted rid of this company.
Today, I call .. yet. .. again .. to ask where the **bleep** my final bill is and they tell me its been put in the post.  It is for the correct amount.   I will be paying it when it arrives.
Its such a shame.  All BT had to do was charge me the correct amount per month for their own services.  They failed utterly.  From all my conversations with them I have an impression of a department in meltdown where the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, let alone what the the feet might be up to .....
I have left BT for good,  I have been left with a very bitter aftertaste.
From the posts on this board, it appears my frustration is felt by many.  I do wonder if any action is being taken internally with BT to correct the mistakes being made?   Would a moderator confirm?

    Hi Oxfordataloss,
Thanks for posting. I'm really sorry you've had such problems with BT, it's certainly not the kind of service we would hope to provide. I'll take your comments on board and if you don't receive the final bill as expected please drop me an email with the account details and a link to this thread for reference.
    Cheers
