Answers Caching Drill Down Filter

Hi
Im experiencing an intermittent issue when drilling down from a report and returning to the parent level report, and then selecting a different drill down filter from the header report.
It seems as though the drill down filter in the first attempted drill down is being stored as no results are being returned the second time and when you go to edit the report it shows the initial filter is still selected.
Has anyone else experienced this? and if so please can you advise of a solution/workaround.
Thanks
James

FYI This issue is occurring on 10G OBIEE

  • Passing drill down filter to a BI Publisher report in 11G

Let's say we have a dashboard with a prompt and a regular Answers report. The user expects the prompt to filter report 1 and then make a selection from the report1 to navigate to report 2 which is now being filtered by both the prompt and the selection from report 1. I looked through the documentation on BI Pub 11G and it looks like if we now navigate from report 2 to a BI Pub report only the dashboard prompt (via presentation variables) will be passed to the BI Pub report. Is there a way to also pass the filters created within report 1 and report 2 to BI Pub?
    Thanks.

Hi. That helped. I get the right value now in the dropdownlist. When defining the dashboard prompt I wrote some custom SQL:
SELECT "A11_DIM_PERIOD"."DESCTEXT", "A11_DIM_PERIOD"."KEY" FROM "promptsource" WHERE "A11_DIM_PERIOD"."DESCTEXT" IS NOT NULL ORDER BY "A11_DIM_PERIOD"."KEY". Now the prompt shows the display values but as soon as I select on and hit apply the dropdownlist text changes to the Key values (whicih is fine for my parameters, because they need to be key values rather than text) but this is unfortunate for the front end user, they will wonder "hey, why did the drop down list value I selected just change". Right now, I dont know why. The prompts work fine just odd that their display data changes from rpd logical column description field to sort field.

  • Report is not showing a prompt for a Charactorstic Filter Drill Down..!!

    Hello Experts,
Recently my project was enhanced with some more new project and mixed it with my project.
Now my issue is before my new project was mixed into this project. We have the option..when a material drill down we come to see the Filter window.
In that my old project, for the users comfortability and for knowing to users that there are more than 200 materials avaialble like that..in that filter they put one prompt message " has more than 200 values ".
But after mixing up the enhanced new project, now..we are unable to see the above prompt message in Filter window..when material drill down.
User requirement is to again users need to see that kinf of prompt in the materils drill down filter window.
Requesting you , please reply me if any body faced this kind of issue in your projects or come to know from ur end.
    Thanks,
    SN.

    Hi,
This Prompt message would have been set in WAD(XHTML Coding section) in your old project. Now , you cross check your Web template for the same. Your issue will be resolved.

  • Drill down issue ON ESSBASE

    Hi Experts,
    OBIEE 11.1.1.6.0,
    the mutipdatasoure is ESSBASE 11.1.1.2
In Essbase databases we use the “code” as the Member name and the “description” in the Alias, when we click the Alias name in answer for drill down horizontally, it will generate the following error message, maybe the Alias column lead to this problem and do not find the exact value in ESSBASE member name. How to solve this issue?
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 96002] Essbase Error: Unknown Member [Dim_Region].[China] used in query (HY000)

    Note:
When we use “code” as the Member name for drilling down ,it will be successful.
In physical layer, we change member name into Alias default in display column area.
    Code:

  • Dynamic filter with drill down in WAD

    Hello Expert,
I am new in WAD and I have a requirement as below:
    Data in Provider:
    Mat1  Mat2   Plant   qty
    M1     M2       P1      10
    M1     M2       P2       20
Report layout in Bex as below:
    Row:
    Mat1
    Column:
    Qty
    Free char:
    Mat2
Initially I open the WAD report, data should filter on Plant = P1
    Output:
    Mat1  qty
    M1     10
Now If I right click on Mat1 (select filter value and drill on Mat2 level) data get filter on Plant = P2, it show as below
    Mat2  qty
    M2    20
How I can achieve in WAD.
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Regards,
    Abhishek

You can restrict the value in variable screen with default value plant as "P1" and added the query to template. Now you can executed the query in portal you drill down through context ment filter -> filter on value then select the value to "P2" and add it then click "OK" it will show only P2 value. http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/44/33eb19e2173ec8e10000000a1553f6/content.htm https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/43/152fa54b315a38e10000000a422035/content.htm

  • Use Of Filter and Drill Down  By Option in Context Menu

    Hi,
We are  on  BI  7.0 patch 14.0
I have the Filter and Drill Down by option checked in the context menu Web item in WAD . However when I preview on the Web what happens is that the characteristic that I am using the filter and  drill down on shows up horizontally as opposed to in a column.
For eg: If I have the following data initially
    01/01/2007     250
    02/01/2007    500.
I keep my cursor on 01/01/2007 and do a filter and drill down by 0calqtr then what I see now is
    01/2007    02/2007 03/2007 04/2007
    instead of
    01/2007
    02/2007
    03/2007
    04/2007.
Each CalQtr will have a key figure Value beside it in the horizontal mode.
This happens only when I pick the characteristic on the Graph. On the Web Item Analysis it works fine. Has anyone faced this issue before. This worked fine when it was WAD 3.5. This affects the presentation of the graph. For Objects that have not been migrated the result still shows fine.

  • Drill/Down don't work and Characteristic is deleted after filter in BEx Ana

Hi All, please help me experts
       I have 2 issue:
1.- When I execute a Query in BEx Analyzer I got the first result, I can add other characteristics just to click on this.. or with context menu.. but later If I try to move de order of columns in the report the function for drill down doesn't work.  Then, I need to click on Design mode and then click off design mode... and the function for drill and down is actived, then only I can click on the characteristics and move to other column into the report. Please if you can tell how can I activate this functionality  without need to move to design mode..
2.- When one characteristics is filter in to the report, example select some values for this characteristics and click on execute, I get the result but this characteristics dissapear form the report.
Please help me I will assign points for the answers.

    1. You will find this option beside ? in Add-Ins. In that Settings --> BW Server Connection.
+ Not I didn't find... for example I saw... File.. Edit...view.. Insert... and others exactly like when you enter in excel ... the only difference it's that I saw activated the tool bar for bex analyzer.. on where I saw .. design mode... refresh..etc.+
    2. If you select the field in Free characteristics and restrict it with a variable in query designer mode, you will get that characteristic in variable screen and you can give the selection and you will not get that charcteristic in the output as you have taken that in free characteristic. Only if you do drilldown accross rows for that characteristic, then it will appear.
If you take that into Rows in query designer mode, then you will get the same for variable selection and as well as in the output without drilldown accross rows. It will be displayed automatically.
+The clear example is:  I have one free characteristic in report, like 0MATERIAL, this characteristics didn't have any restric value... then the user add 0MATERIAL into report just for see more details... later if the user filter 0MATERIAL with some values and click ok, the column 0MATERIAL dissapear from the report +
did you have another idea to solve this?¡
    Thank you a lot.

  • Difference between drill down and filter using navigation attributes?

    hi all,
can anyone let me know the difference between filter and drilldown options using navigational attributes. pls explain with examples for filter and drill down and how it varies.
    thanxs
    haritha

Jst to add up with an example :
Say you have a cost center variance analysis report with cost elements in the filter. ( not present in the default report result )
Filter - You can right click on a particular cost center & say " Keep Filter Value " - it will result in only showing that cost center & you can wish to select other filter value doing " Select Filter Value ".
Drill Down - If u wish to see the cost elements associated with cost centers you can right click on Cost Center & do " Drill Down To - Cost Element " or Drill Across.

  • Table Data Preview tab: Missing Filter Textbox + Drill Down Data Discovery

1 - With Oracle based tables, when I click them and the table preview loads with all the tabs, on the Data tab there is a Preview entry box. I do not see the same with SQL Server or MySQL based connections. Is there a way to enable it? Am I not looking hard enough or is this function only available for Oracle based tables?
2 - I'm having a hard time trying to search for an answer to this next question (too many false positives based on the terms I am using). In other tools I have used (namely DB Visualizer), when previewing data in the Table's Data tab, a user may 'drill down' through values by right-clicking the field and applying a filter from the pop-up (drop-down with the field names, usual SQL comparison operators and a text entry box). I see SQL Developer has something similar with a filter list, but it only seems to prompt values in the buffer (in order, no less) and only uses the = operator (no LIKE). Finally, I notice that this value is not even present in the Filter text box (if you wanted to edit it further, add more, etc). As with my prior question, am I missing some usability/functionality setting/config or does this feature simply not exist in the way the other tool employed it? This feature is what keeps the other tool installed on my machine.

    Hi Jed,
    1) Sorry, the tool just has fewer bells and whistles for non-Oracle database connections. You might try adding this as a feature request on SQL Developer Exchange.
    2) The normal SQL operators such as LIKE, <, and so on, are supported for the individual column filters, but there are some quirks:

  • Passing Filter criteria parameters to drill-down reports

    Hi,
I have a scenario, where my base report prompts a filter criteria for date range (from & to date) based on this criteria, I populate my base report with data's.
Suppose if i have a drill-down, can i make use of the filter criteria value selected in the base report and pass the same value to my next-level drill-down report as criteria.
Please let me know if this is possible. Also, let me know if there is any alternate approach available to achieve the same.
My environment details are provided below.
    BAM (11.1.1.3)
    Report: Summary crosstab
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & regards,

    Hi pypawar,
    Thanx for ur reply.
We are not using heirarchical drilling in our case, we are using another report for drill-down.
I will give some more background for this issue.
We have a scenario where we used the date filter for getting the from and to dates based on which we display our Master report (cross-tab).
Further, when drilling down from the master report to child report(which uses the same dataobject as master); we are not able to pass the dates input that were provided in master report as filter criteria.
While assigning parameters in the drill-down for the child report, we are not able to find an option to pass the date value selected in the master report to child report for filter criteria.
In an alternate approach, what we did to resolve the above issue was to pass the primary key fields of the data object while drill-down. But while passing primary keys, we realised there are cases where large number of values are getting passed as filter criteria to child reports and in some case it fails since there large number values getting passed as filter criteria.(in our case the chance of this value could be few 100's to 1000's). You can find details for this error in CACHEEXCEPTION during drill-down in BAM reports
Please let me know if this is possible. Also, let me know if there is any alternate approach available to achieve the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & regards,

  • Question on the drill down report  in BI Answers

In BI Answers, I can drill down a summary report based on the hierarchy defined in the Repository. For example, I have a hierarchy of 5 levels, level 1 to level 5. Now column level 1, level 2, and level 3 are shown and clickable. Click on level 1, level 4 column and data is shown. But level 4 column is shown after level 1 instead of after level 3. Is it possible that when click on level 1 , level 4 column will appear after level 3?

Don't post the same question twice...
Is rollup possible in BI Anwsers report?

  • Drill Down in BI Answers

Hi , I'm quite new on BI,
having a problem while trying to create some kind of drill down functionality.
After I've created a hierarchical dimension in the repository using BI Administration Tool (
    something like BigGroup >> Group >>Detail :
    Group = <
    Group_name
    Group : sum(SC_X_STRUCTURE_TIME.VALUE)
    >
    Detail = <
    Detail_name
    Detail : sum(SC_X_STRUCTURE_TIME.VALUE)
    >
). I have also set up a preferred drill path.
I've tried to use this repository in Answers, to create a report.
I've set up the "Value Interaction" type to "Drill" for Group_Name, but it doesn't work (value is displayed as text, not as link)
Any suggestions ? or a complete example somewhere of implementing drill down functionality ?
    Thank you.

...was able to get the drill-down hyperlinks to appear; the problem sounds silly now that I understand. Here was my issue in case it helps anyone else in the future:
I had a 4-level dimension hierarchy, with results displayed in a pivot table. The results table had been formatted so that only the top-most level in the hierarchy was displayed in the "rows" box, and the lower levels of the hierarchy were in the "excluded" box. I did that because i wanted the first rendering of the pivot to only show the highest-level rollup values. The problem was that i had included the lowest level of the hierarchy in my request, and had included that in the "excluded" box in the pivot table editor... so even though the lower levels of the dimension weren't displayed, the info was being fetched down to the lowest level of the hierarchy, so the result already contained the finest level of granularity - it just wasn't being displayed. (in other words, there was no need for hyperlinks because the data couldn't be drilled down any further... i had already requested the lowest level of the hierarchy to be included in the query). long story short, i removed the column corresponding to the lowest level of my hierarchy from the request (and from the pivot table display), and the hyperlinks for the higher dimension levels appeared.

  • Poor performance with WebI and BW hierarchy drill-down...

    Hi
We are currently implementing a large HR solution with BW as backend
and WebI and Xcelcius as frontend. As part of this we are experiencing
very poor performance when doing drill-down in WebI on a BW hierarchy.
In general we are experiencing ok performance during selection of data
and traditional WebI filtering - however when using the BW hierarchy
for navigation within WebI, response times are significantly increasing.
The general solution setup are as follows:
    1) Business Content version of the personnel administration
infoprovider - 0PA_C01. The Infoprovider contains 30.000 records
    2) Multiprovider to act as semantic Data Mart layer in BW.
    3) Bex Query to act as Data Mart Query and metadata exchange for BOE.
All key figure restrictions and calculations are done in this Data Mart
    Query.
    4) Traditionel BO OLAP universe 1:1 mapped to Bex Data Mart query. No
calculations etc. are done in the universe.
    5) WebI report with limited objects included in the WebI query.
As we are aware that performance is an very subjective issues we have
created several case scenarios with different dataset sizes, various
filter criteria's and modeling techniques in BW.
Furthermore we have tried to apply various traditional BW performance
tuning techniques including aggregates, physical partitioning and pre-
calculation - all without any luck (pre-calculation doesn't seem to
work at all as WebI apparently isn't using the BW OLAP cache).
In general the best result we can get is with a completely stripped WebI report without any variables etc.
and a total dataset of 1000 records transferred to WebI. Even in this scenario we can't get
each navigational step (when using drill-down on Organizational Unit
hierarchy - 0ORGUNIT) to perform faster than minimum 15-20 seconds per.
    navigational step.
That is each navigational step takes 15-20 seconds
with only 1000 records in the WebI cache when using drill-down on org.
    unit hierachy !!.
Running the same Bex query from Bex Analyzer with a full dataset of
30.000 records on lowest level of detail returns a threshold of 1-2
seconds pr. navigational step thus eliminating that this should be a BW
    modeling issue.
As our productive scenario obviously involves a far larger dataset as
well as separate data from CATS and PT infoproviders we are very
worried if we will ever be able to utilize hierarchy drill-down from
    WebI ?.
The question is as such if there are any known performance issues
related to the use of BW hierarchy drill-down from WebI and if so are
there any ways to get around them ?.
As an alternative we are currently considering changing our reporting
strategy by creating several higher aggregated reports to avoid
hierarchy navigation at all. However we still need to support specific
division and their need to navigate the WebI dataset without
limitations which makes this issue critical.
Hope that you are able to help.
    Thanks in advance
    /Frank

Hi Henry, thank you for your suggestions although i´m not agree with you that 20 seconds is pretty good for that navigation step. The same query executed with BEx Analyzer takes only 1-2 seconds to do the drill down.
    Actions
suppress unassigned nodes in RSH1: Magic!! This was the main problem!!
tick use structure elements in RSRT: Done it.
enable query stripping in WebI: Done it.
upgrade your BW to SP09: Has the SP09 some inprovements in relation to this point ?
use more runtime query filters. : Not possible. Very simple query.
    Others:
RSRT combination H-1-3-3-1 (Expand nodes/Permanent Cache BLOB)
Uncheck prelimirary Hierarchy presentation in Query. only selected.
Check "Use query drill" in webi properties.
Sorry for this mixed message but when i was answering i tryied what you suggest in relation with supress unassigned nodes and it works perfectly. This is what is cusing the bottleneck!! incredible...
    Thanks a lot

  • Issue to drill down from a report

    Hi,
    Our requirement is we need to show three different graphs in a single report representing different data, from that we need to drill down to a new different report  ;
    Two approaches we tried with crystal report are;
    1.     We put three graphs and the table in the single report and tried to implement drill down for each graph. We could group data on the basis of first pie chart data and could drill down. But while we tried to group data for second bar chart grouping is happening only as a sub group of first group. Ie, we cannot group data independently for different charts.
    2.     In the second approach we created different  3 sub reports and added in to a main report. But Crystal report is not supporting sub report to a sub report. Ie, we cannot go to drill down report.
It would be a great help, if you could suggest some solution.
    Thanks,
    Jomy

    Hi,
As per my understanding, you have one report say Parent1 (SA1) and one Report say Child1 (SA2), now you want to pass some values from parent1 to child1.
    1> Create 1 interim report from parent1.
2> In your Child report in filter part use result based on another analysis.
Please let me know if it resolves yourissues.
    Thanks
