Anybody familiar with the details of implementing the Adobe PDF virtual printer?

Hello, all.
We need to implement a virtual printer similar to the legendary one by Adobe. The images processed by it will be detailed CAD drawing.
Can a kind soul point me in the appropriate direction? For starters: what type of data (what format) is the virtual printer expected to receive?
This will be for Windows.
TIA,
-RFH

Well... it isn't really a data format. A device driver (which includes a printer driver) provides a number of callbacks which correspond to the graphical calls made by a printing program. (At least, that's how it was when I looked into it a very long time ago). A driver might be asked to draw lines or boxes, to output text with particular fonts and attributes, or to accept a variety of raster graphics. This is something for an experienced programmer, or team, already very familiar with Windows graphic models such as GDI: device drivers are not easy to develop or debug, and because they run with special privileges; bugs in them have the potential to completely crash the system (blue screen of death) (although I read of something called "user mode drivers" which might be safer).
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/gg463348.aspx is a place where some of this seems to be discussed. I don't know whether you have to sign up with Microsoft. You might, because recent OSs will only install signed drivers.
Updated: if you still want to make a PDF, this is an enormous task, so big that Adobe dropped the two drivers they once had. Adobe don't even write the Adobe PDF driver. Rather, they use the operating system's PostScript driver, then convert PostScript to PDF using Distiller, a tool they conveniently already had. Adobe provide what I think is called a "print monitor" (?) that takes the output from the driver once it is fully formatted. If you can process PostScript you could do the same. (Note: a PostScript interpreter from scratch is a considerably larger task than a print driver, so that isn't an easy option; look at 5-10 person years if the people are sufficiently skilled).

  • Now that I've updated Firefox, when I open a pdf webpage, there's no toolbar with the Adobe save button, print button, etc. It's gone.

Firefox no longer displays the buttons for Adobe functions when I open a webpage with an pdf on it (e.g. a URL that ends in pdf)/ There's no way for me to download them to my laptop. The old version of Firefox automatically showed those buttons. I can't see a toolbar that relates to this. Can you tell me how to get those functions back? Thanks,
    Laura

Try to remove the Firefox plist file (org.mozilla.firefox.plist).

If anyone have the same problem, and have a solution to it, please let me know. The Acrobat PDF printer (from Adobe 6.0) works , but are wery slow.

  • Anyone familiar with "The Standby Wizard for Oracle "

Is anyone familiar with "The Standby Wizard for Oracle " by Relational Database Consultants, Inc?
It is a GUI app that supposedly simplifies and automates the creation, maintenance, and switchback functions necessary to implement Oracle's standby database paradigm for high-availability.
I have a very small IT shop and simplification with data protection is important to me.
I'd like to read anyones thoughts if you have such.

    Hi
I never used this tool. However it is important that you have the right infrastructure, too. A standby database wrong implemented is useless. You can try to call a consult in near you to implement the dataguard.
Does Relational Database Consultants has a documentation about the product?
    Bye, Aron

  • When I sign into iTunes for updates, a secondary username appears and I need to enter a password. I am not familiar with the second user name. Any Suggestions?

When I sign into iTunes for updates, a secondary username appers and I need to enter a password. I am not familiar with the second username. Any suggestions?

Are you using iTunes on your iPad or the actual program on a Mac/PC?
If you are using on your iPad check the ID being used by going to Settings>iTunes & App Store if the Apple ID displayed isn't yours tap it and select Sign Out then sign in with your own Apple ID.
If you are referring to iTunes on a Mac/PC select the Store Menu and check the Account Name next to the View Account text, if this isn't you select the Sign Out option directly above it then Sign In with the relevant credentials.

  • I am trying to download ebooks with with the adobe reader

I am trying to download ebooks with the adobe reader, i keep getting an error message saying it is an unsupported file.  how do i correct this?

What is the format of e-books.
Adobe Reader can only open PDF files.
If you have e-books with epub format, you might need Adobe Digital Edition : http://www.adobe.com/in/products/digital-editions/download.html

You need to buy PSE13. But you can continue with PSE9 if you download and install the free DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will work with yoir existing software(keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.8
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.8
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • I purchased Adobe Acrobat x Pro recently and installed it, I have compatibility issues vision 2013. The adobe pdf converter  plug in stays inactive despite all my efforts to activate it, I need help with this? How can i get the plug in

For MS Visio (any version) only the appropriate version of Acrobat *PRO* provides PDFMaker for Visio.
For Visio 2013 specifically you must have Acrobat XI Pro (updated to at least 11.0.1).
