Anyway to Set Up a Password to Open a Document

I have a Pages document that has quite a bit of personal information in it about myself and several of my friends. It is really the only thing on my computer that I would like to avoid anyone else seeing. Is there a way to set it up so that a password is required to open that document, but ONLY that particular document?
Thanks

Use Disk Utility to create an encrypted disk image, mount it on the Desktop, copy the file into it, unmount the disk image, remount it, enter the password you gave it, ensure that you can access the file, unmount the disk image, burn the file to a CD, store the CD under lock & key, delete the file, and secure empty trash. That removes all evidence of the file from your HD. AFAIK, you cannot password protect files and folders with OS X's tools.

Can I set up safari to automatically open PDF documents from the internet into the pages app?

No - and you can't open pdf files in the Pages app on the iPad anyway as far as I know. You can export a Pages file as a pdf but you can't open them in Pages.

  • Can somebody the form to put a password for open a document please

can somebody the form to put a password for open a document please, I try to put security but appear this error "the document can not to file. trouble reading the document (14)"

    Hi there,
If I understand correctly, you're trying to convert a file but can't because it's password protected? If so, the only way around that is to remove the password protection (which would require knowing the password).
If I misunderstood your question, please let us know.

  • How can I set up a password to open each email account to keep privacy?

    Hello,
Different members of the family are using the same ipad. How can I set up a password for each email account to keep privacy ?
    Thanks

You can not - it's a single-account device, including email, so you can't set up seperate passwords for seperate emails. All or nothing, I'm afraid.

  • Word 2010 prompts for username and password when opening a document on trusted website

    Hi Guys,
We have a website (not sure if the site is a sharepoint site) on our trusted domain that asked for username and password when trying to access it. I added the site to our trusted sites zone and this resolved the issue however when I try to open word documents
I get prompted for usernames and password again if I cancel the credentials box the document opens with no issues.
Below is some of the steps i have taken
    - Tried opening other non office documents (e.g. PDF, JPEG) and they open with no issues
    - Tried to opening the word documents with a system that only had word pad install and not Office 2010 and the documents open with no issues so it looks like it's an office 2010 problem
Can you please advise how I can resolve this issue and if this is a client issue or an issue on the web server thanks

    Hi,
This issue is caused by the Office suit itself. When Internet Explorer opens an Office document, the appropriate Office application is started with the path of the document. The Office application then tries to access the document directly from
the server. This differs from other browsers and other file types. Most browsers download the file and call the application to open the file from the local cache. However, when this occurs, if the opened file is changed and saved,
the changes are only made to the local copy and not to the server copy.
To establish the richest experience possible, the first thing that the Office application does is communicate with the server to determine the server type and what web authoring protocol is available. The application does this by making
an OPTIONS request directly to the server.
As a new process accessing the server, the Office application is required to renegotiate authentication. This method is more secure than a method in which the new process uses an existing authentication that was established by the browser.
    Please try the following methods:
An alternative with full functionality but with a calculated risk
Client approaches that can reduce the impact
Alternative configurations when the web server does not support DAV or reduced functionality is acceptable

  • Why do I need a password to open some documents and were must I get it

Where  do we find these password and how do we create them

    Hi,
You are prompted to enter the password in some of the pdf files while you are trying to open them in Adobe Reade is due to the fact that they are password protected/encrypted.
You can get the password of these pdf files from their creators.
    Thanks,

  • How do I require a password to open an existing document?

In Word Perfect I could "lock" a document by requiring a password to open the document.  How can I do this in Pages?

Inspector > Document > Require password to open
Be aware this is for .pages documents only, it will not work for exported Word/pdf docs.

  • Opening a document window size

Not sure if this is a default or a setting somewhere. Whenever I open a document in Photoshop CC the window is cropping the image and I have to command 0 to make full size to document. Anyone know how to set the open document to the image size as a default? Its getting annoying…thanks

I have made an action to do this. Then in File > Scripts > Scripts Events Manager I have set it up to run this action when opening a file.
Does not work always when files are coming from ACR but normally any other file I open, automatically adjusts itself.

  • Acrobat Pro X Opens Every Document Directly to Page 2. WTF?????

Hello. I updated to Acrobat Pro X and now when I try to open a PDF file from a link on my website, it automatically opens every document starting on Page 2, instead of Page 1 as I have set in "Properties"
When I open the documents independent of the web browser, they open directly to Page 1, as specified.
    What gives?
    Anyone else having this problem?
I think I might punch Adobe Acrobat right in its face as my customers are going to open the docs on my site and go "WTF????????!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!" and then poop their pants.
    What to do?

I was having a similar problem, but only when viewing PDFs that were set to "fit page", and only when viewing in the browser.  "Fit width" PDFs worked fine.
I am running Pro 9 but made the mistake of installing Reader X.  (This could explain why PDFs opened locally were fine, but those opened in a browser are not.)
I finally uninstalled Reader X.  PDFs now open to page 1 properly.  Strangely, I didn't have to reinstall Reader 9... I guess it's now using Pro 9 to view in the browser?
Not sure if this is a bug in Reader/Pro X or just a problem with having different versions of Reader and Pro on the same machine, but I thought I'd at least add a "me too" to the topic.

  • Open Illustrator document continually goes inactive.

I understand that CS Live is dead, but my Illustrator CS5 seems to be always "phoning home" and making my current document inactive until I click on the Illustrator desktop.  This happens any time I pause using Illustrator for just a few minutes.  Annoying!
Is this really a CS Live issue?
Is there a setting that will keep my open Illustrator document from going inactive on me?
    Anyone else run into this?
HP Media Center PC m1170n; XP Pro

It's more likely that this is some other process on your system like a virus scanner or an instant messanger that shifts "window focus" and Win XP's old drawing model doesn't help. I realyl think this is more some hidden taskbar tray app or a suppressed dialog thast does this. CS Live would only be relevant at all, if you ever signed in, which based on your description I presume you never did. THE CS Live dialog is also rather prominent and hard to miss, which would further my assumption that this is not an AI issue...

  • PDF Document requests a password for opening despite not setting it up to do so

I created a secure pdf document that is to be downloaded from a web site. Upon downloading, users should be able to open/view the pdf without having to enter a password, but would need a password to be able to edit or make changes to the document. When testing the document and downloading from the web site, I am prompted for a password even though I did not set the pdf to request one for opening the document.
Can someone please help me undertand what's going on. I've tried a million things with no luck!
    Thanks!

Can you post the file somewhere for us to look at?

  • When I open my computer and put in my password it opens to a screen that says setting up you Mac but at that point it is frozen from there and I cannot get in

When I open my computer and sign in with my password it opens and says setting up your Mac.  But from here it never goes forward and even if I restart I cannot get computer to open

This sounds more like a Windows question, than a Firefox question. When you say that an image shows up every time you open your computer, do you mean every time you turn on your computer, or every time you start Firefox?

  • Can`t open password tab to set a supervisor password in security menu of BIOS. BIOS freezes

few days ago I bought one Thinkpad T60. All is fully functional excepting of one issue with BIOS password. It seems there is no password set previously since I can entry the BIOS menu and set all particular entries w/o any problem. Hovewer when I come to the point to set a BIOS password, the BIOS freezes suddently. Can anybody know what could be the reason for that? Is there some solution how to fix it? Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Also just to clarify, reflashing a bios chip won't change the password or remove it, but if the chip is reburnned, which is often done when remanufacturing a board the entire chip's data is replaced. I don't know if this is possible or not, but since you suspected the system was "hacked", it is possible someone improperly reburned the wrong data onto the chip making the supervisor password option non operational. If (and I do stress the "if") this is the problem, then you can get the board repaired. This type of repair is often required if a bios flash is interrupted and the system becomes unusable, and usually costs $100-200.
Your best option might be to just use the system for what it is, or just replace the system board and be done with it.

You saved it after setting the Password? :
Inspector > Document > Document > Require Password to Open
I just tested it and it shows up ijn The Finder with a padlock on the file icon and does require a password to open.
