Ap.thumbnails file doesn't get smaller

when the underlying project is reduced.
I have a project in which I removed ~ 70% of the files and noticed that the size of the AP.thumbnails file for the project remained constant at 231 MB. I created a new project moved all of the images to it and the AP.thumbnails file is 27 MB. Any ideas why the original one wasn't reduced?
I'm using GrandPerspective to look at the underlying file size quickly, but the shell should show the same.

BTW I care since I'm rsync ing to a JungleDisk that connects to Amazon's S3 service and my Cable upload speeds are abysmal (45 KB/sec)

I would guess that the thumbnails file grows but does not shrink. You have probably inported lots of images and then deleted many of them.

There is an exception in the log file, I guess that explains why the file doesn't get picked up. Not very informative, though :

To avoid this error in the future, follow one or more of these steps:
Do not manually modify message tracking log files. By default, these files are located in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\TransportRoles\Logs\MessageTracking.
Make sure that your file-based antivirus software is configured to exclude file directories that contain message tracking log files. For more information about configuring your file-based antivirus software on an Exchange server, see

  • Swf doesn't get smaller

    Hallo,
I made a Flash 8 movie (Swf) that is 212kb in size.
I received advice that I could reduce the size of my .Swf by compressing its pictures.
I did so, reducing the pictures inside it from 518kb to 183kb with Irfanview but when I import them into my movie/library and save it there is NO difference in size - it stays on 212kb.
    Did I do something wrong?
    Thank you!

Also answered this in the Flash Kit Forum but thought I'd share here as well. There's really no need to rebuild a swf if all you are doing is editing or reducing the file size of images.... assuming you are doing this editing outside of Flash:
Not sure if you are aware of the "update" feature or not.
So say that you use a number of images in your .swf, you import them to the Library, etc.
Then you decide to make some changes to the images, make them smaller, add something to the photo, take something off the photo...
So go ahead and make those photo edits to files that are used in the .swf, but make the edits outside of Flash, resizing them PhotoShop or something like that. No need to re-import the photo, Flash knows where it is...But the edits will not show in Flash until you select that photo from the Library panel in Flash, right click on it to bring up menu, and down at the bottom of the drop menu is "update". Click the "update".
Now your new edited version of the photo will be used in Flash...
this "update" will now include file size reduction as well as any other edits to the photos.
And on another point... I wouldn't worry much about a 212Kb .swf... now-a-days, that's not that large. As more and more highspeed Internet connections become available, the difference in download time between 212Kb and 147Kb, is really negligable. If reducing the size results in a noticable degrade in quality, I would not do it. The download time saving may not be worth it.
I think it's a good idea to plan for at least 1 year+ into the future when designing Web content. You don't want to have to come back a year from now and redo the entire.swf because the quality is so low or the display size so small for viewers with faster and faster Internet connections and larger and larger monitor screens.
    Best wishes,

Attempting to upgarde itunes and I get an error message looking for "an alternate path to a folder containing 'iTunes.msi' location.  I've searched my hard drive and the file doesn't exist.  What to do?

This worked...found on a prior discussion:
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page)...
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
From the link above (near the top of the page)....Under 'download locations'   click on 'download@majorgeeks'
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you just downloaded and ran.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    Restart your computer.
Re-download Itunes (latest version form Itunes website) and install.  It worked!

unfortunately it's not the router. I usually switch on/off the router if I'm not at home. Therefore  I have ruled out from the very beginning the router. And I'd rule out an upgrade of  arch's packages as well.  I installed->upgraded all packages  after a fresh installation of arch,  and then I started the configuration...

After updating os to OSX 10.9.1 I can't open any new pdf files.  I get a message saying It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise. I can still read older saved files but no new ones arriving by email.  Also can't attach a pdf to an email to send out.  Any help would be appreciated.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Problem with file handles : jdeveloper makes them getting smaller

    hello,
I downloaded today jdeveloper 11.1.2.1 for linux and I installed it on my centos 6.2 (like redhat).
    I didn't read the prerequisites.
the installation worked fine, but when I tried to modify the JDialog swing file of a view project, I have an error message telling me there are save file errors, and complaining the files handles are too small.
I think the two errors are linked.
I read some stuff on the net and found a tutorial explaining how to have fs.file-max=70000 in sysctl.conf and 30000 when you type ulimit -n, what is also explained in the prerequisites.
so I ran jdeveloper a new time and found the same error.
    I opened a terminal, and saw that ulimit -n gives ... 1024.
seems that the parameter is changed when I launch jdeveloper.
    can you see an explanation?
    thanks

  • My Pictures are getting SMALLER!!!!

I recently switched from the PC world to the Mac world. I like everything about it but lately my pictures seem to be shrinking. It's not all of them only random pictures, some of them are scans so they should be large and clear. When I first imported them everything was great, but over time they are getting smaller and smaller, and the image quality is very poor. I haven't switched anything in the settings either. Any ideas?

Where are you checking on the size, in iPhoto or in the Finder? Those sound like thumbnail sized files, especially the 220 x 110. You're saying you examine a file one day and it's at one size and then examine it at another time, not having done anything with the file, editing, etc., and it's smaller in pixel dimensions. Is that right? If you're looking at the files in a folder titled Data that resides in the iPhoto Library folder then you're looking at the thumbnail files that iPhoto creates.

  • Lightroom export file size: why so small? How can I maximize image quality?

Jpgs should never be edited, except as a last resort. And it defeats the purpose of working with raw files if you export a jpg, and then edit it.
Agreed. Unfortunately there are many cameras that only output JPEG format files. The camera file (or any other original JPEG file) is your "raw" unedited file inside LR. If you need to send the file to someone else for further editing who doesn't have LR then Exporting with 100% Quality setting might make sense. I say "might" because it's still possible to get very good results using lower Quality setting JPEGs if you only re-save the file one (1) time after further editing. I agree that 16 bit, ProPhoto RGB, TIFF Export files are best for "critical" work and when using 'Edit in Photoshop' from LR.
I suggest taking a look at the JPEG compression image tests on Jeffrey Friedl's Blog. It's a wealth of information! LR's Quality settings range from 0% to 100% or 100 Quality levels. In reality there are only 13 Quality levels, which are the same as in PS.

If someone gives me a jpg to edit, I always save it as a tiff and convert to 16-bit, to minimize furhter deterioration. I realize that this will not be true 16-bit - no information is added to the image - but my impression is that it will withstand heavy editing better, and not end up with a comb-like histogram.
Why not simply Import the JPEG file into LR and do all your editing non-destructively? There's no need to convert the JPEG file to TIFF unless you need to use LR 'Edit in PS.' Lightroom uses a16 bit/color, ProPhoto RGB, Linear Gamma workspace for all images even when editing sRGB JPEG files.

  • Why my files name switch from small letters to capital letters?

    Hi guys,
I've a weird problem working with Illustrator CS6. It doesn't happen all the times but sometimes my files name switch from small letters to capital.
For example the file "file.ai" becomes "FILE.AI"
    What could be the reason?

I'm on a Windows 7 PC, and am having the same problem. Here is what I have discovered so far:
The file name is changed to lowercase only when the following things happen:
The file is opened outside of Illustrator using Windows Explorer ( or other file directory), however, the file must be in the results of a search. For instance, if I type in the search window the word "Dog", all files associated with that query will show in a list. Clicking on an .ai file in that list produces a lowercase file name in Illustrator.
Selecting the same file in the Windows Explorer without a search ( manually navigating to that file) does NOT produce a lowercase file name, or opening the file directly using Illustrator's file system will NOT produce a lowercase file name.
Ive tried this on several different machines in the office and have had the same results. Also, it appears that the length of the file name doesnt have any effect on the phenomenon. I have had this happen with single letter names as well as extra long ones.
Try this out and see if you are getting the same results. I have tried this on several machines here at the office. All of them are Windows 7 ( 64bit) running CS5.5

  • Why does it not get smaller?

Hi guys, new on here so I'll just pop up my question sooner rather than later:
I've got iMovie HD 6.0.1 and editing a LONG movie from my around-the-world-trip. After doing a seriously too-long job on importing around 1,500 separate clips (from a HDDV-camera that was not looking to co-operate) I had around 5 hours of material.
This file made about 48 GB on my 95 GB hard-disc.
I didn't have much space left when I started editing but was sure the file would get smaller as I "clipped away" more and more from the film.
I have finished editing for now, and reduced the film with almost one hour, now at 4 hours and 10 mins. The file, however, has gone almost 10 GB bigger, and I only have about 4 GB of free space left.
Why on eart has the file got bigger rather than smaller after cutting down the film? I have not made much of "special effects" on it, and I have emptied the trash-can all the time.
As it doesn't seem to be arranged that iDVD manages to split the film up, I will have to export it out on DV-tapes, then delete the whole project - and then import it back in one hour at a time, to burn DVD's of Part I, Part II, etc.
Any explanations, and hopefully solutions on why the file size has not got smaller are welcomed!

'non distructiveness' is the keyword, using it in the searchfield, upper right on this website, will spit out a few dozend threads...
    in basic:
you import 1 Gig of video...
you haven't set in iM's prefs, to 'segment' the import...
you crop a 30sec piece out of this beast of film...
    30sec dv = 100MB...
    < noise of a BUZZER! >
    wrong..
that clip has still a 'connection' to its import.. the 1Gigger mentioned above..
if you copy/paste that 30secs into another project, you would copy 1GB of data...
    no workaround for that.
    * import wisely, just what you need
    * set iM's import prefs to some smaller size... e.g. 3min... larger imports get split, but you wouldn't notice while playback...
    * iM is a consumer product.. 5h? ... phphewww... how to you keep 1500 clips in mind?? and: 5h/1500 clips = 10sec each clip..? that's no movie, it's a slideshow ;-))
    * iDVD need 10 - 15GB free to work smoothly... use an ext. drive for your iM projects..
    * a dvd-r fits max. 120min... why not producing 'segements'/episodes, and not an 'opus magnum'?
    what I would do....:
do paper-editing first.. select your imports while watching the tapes on a TV... write down a script ... segment your project into at last 5 parts... create an iM project for a part.. import just for that part.. export final part back to tape... import parts into new iM project/iDVD... be a happy film editor..
