Aperture 3 Shutting down

I have Aperture 3. It keeps shutting down.
I "believe" I have a bad file somewhere. In addition, I can't turn off faces. (I go to pref, general, and uncheck, but even though it unchecks-aperture is in the process of shutting down and when I open it back up for the brief time it will open, it is still checked.)  I read that it was helpful to screenshot the warning. Please help.  Thank you so much.

Thanks Leonie. Here is a copy and paste of the problem report.  The Shift works sometimes. I am pretty sure where the errored file is (a project folder of 700+) I just need Aperture to stay open enough for me to export them...then I can delete the project, right? I am assuming I have a corrupted file.  Thanks again. (I will add more of the text too)

Aperture 3 shuts down every time I try to use it after only using it for one minute. Aperture closes then a pop up screen asks if I want to reopen Aperture. If somrone at Aperture didn't keep pushing a stop button for it to close,Apple wouldn't need to ask the stupid question"Do you want to reopen Aperture?" to begin with. Anyone out there having the same annoying problem?? I like Aperture or used to anyway, but if this nonsense continues, I will be forced to buy some other editor besides "No hanging fruit - Adobe photoshop CS5" or "I don't like you so I'm shutting down - Aperture".

    Hello,
sorry to hear about your troubles, but we will need to have more technical information about your problem to be able to help you:
There may be several reasons that can cause Aperture to crash on start up:
You may have imported an image (or video) in an encoding that Aperture does not support, or that is larger than 2 GB, or that is corrupted and Aperture cannot process it
Your Aperture Library or Preferences may have been corrupted
Or you are having a system wide problem with your machine.
Or you may simple be running out of disk space.
It would help, if you could post the crash log from your last crash. Also, more details on your Aperture Library: Is it managed or references? how large is it? Is it on your system drive or on an external drive?
What have you done, shortly before the trouble started? Have you imported new images or videos? Did you install any plug-ins or any new software, lile Final Cut?
Try, if you can get Aperture to launch, if you defer the generation of Previews: Hold down the SHIFT-key immediately after you start Aperture to prevent preview generation for that session. If a damaged image in your library is preventing normal opening, this may allow you to start Aperture. If this succeeds, try to identify the broken image or video among the images you recently imported and remove it from the library.
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Everytime I crop a photo in Aperture it shuts down, then restarts

When I crop a photo in Aperture, as soon as I finish with the Crop..and hit Apply I get a Warning Pop Up:
    Aperture quit unexpectedly.
Click reopen to open the application again. Click report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
When I do reopen the Crop was effective just the way I had cropped the photo and all is fine until I crop again...
    Best Regards,

Repaired database and all is well now...

  • Computer shuts down when using Aperture

Hi, does anyone knows what cause Mac to shut down? It first happened when I was using 1.5, stopped behaving this way for a while but now its back shutting my Mac down again. Tonight, it shut down when I was making batch adjustments to several images. When I turned my Mac back on and went back to the same Aperture project, it shut down again. I did this a few times but always the same result.
What is causing Aperture to shut down my computer? Could it be due to lack of memory or something more sinister?? Please help folks.
    Mike

RAM anomalies immediately came to my mind too.
Note that 3 GB is a very limiting amount of RAM for a Mac Pro anyway. RAM is inexpensive now. I suggest that you add 4x2GB matched RAM; one good source is OWC: http://otherworldcomputing.com/. The new RAM should be installed on the top riser, old unmatched RAM removed or installed on the bottom riser.
Make sure that Aperture and the OS are fully version-current. Immediately prior to and immediately after every installation of any kind (essentially anything that asks for sysadmin password) I recommend repairing Permissions. Note that repairing Permissions at other times does not have the same effect as immediately prior to and immediately after installations; i.e. repairing Permissions is not some kind of magic fix to use after problems present.
On the Photoshop forums for years there have been many instances of some folks getting poor or unstable performance out of setups that other folks get good performance out of. We see the same thing here on the Aperture forums. The suggested protocol of repairing Permissions is one of the routines that many of us with long term good Adobe performance have tended to follow.
There are many tens of thousands of files with Permissions settings. IMO maintaining them in a consistent state immediately before and after each installation of any kind is a potentially useful protocol with no down side risk.
    Good Luck!

  • Aperture shuts down while using crop tool

My wife is having problem with Aperture. Narrowed down to that it occurs when cropping a photo. Aperture just shuts down and asks if you want a restart. If restart or say no and launch, it recycles to shut down again. If you are fast and change projects as it starts, it will open and operate OK until you go back to that project that caused the shut down. It is not consistent to only one project (equal opportunity) so it appears it has something to do with the cropping tool. Work around (getting old)... delete image that was cropped from library or rebuild all from vault. Neither causes extended remediation.
Have run disk warrior. Asking before I uninstall and reinstall Aperture.
    Thanks

I use Aperture several hours each day, and Aperture would sometimes crash while I'm trying to crop and also browsing through images. When this happens, I usually have to restart my machine to get Aperture working again without crashing, I've yet to find any permanent solution.
I think it happens more often when I'm working with large files (the images that have been edited in Photoshop and saved back to Aperture, 72MP files), but I have seen it happen to my plain RAW images as well (12MP files), but it doesn't happen as often as it would with the Photoshop files.
I really hope they resolve these issues soon...

  • Aperture shut down during import

I started the import of photos from iPhoto to Aperture. Aperture shut down in the process. How do I upload only the photos that did not transfer? I tried import again, but it appears to want to upload the entire library again..

Have you done any work in the Aperture Library?  If not, just delete it and redo the import into a new Library.
This may be a good idea anyway, until you determine what caused Aperture to shut down during the last import.  Aperture allows you to easily merge Libraries.
Make a back-up of your iPhoto data first -- after confirming that nothing was harmed when Aperture shut down while importing.
Also, if you haven't upgraded your OS to the current version (you have 10.7.1 listed), you should.

  • Aperture quits, after I uploaded Raw files, the computer shut down during

I am using Aperture 1.5.6. 2j2.. I put in a flash drive in my lexar unit to upload raw files to a new project, I saw the thumbnails images were there, filled in all the information clicked upload.. left the room, came back and the computer was off.. Not sure why.. turned the computer back on and aperture opened, when clicking on the interrupted project, a window opens at the top of the screen for a second and then aperture shuts down, I did a png capture after several attempts to read and the message reads "project untitled 3 is in an inconsistent state, please wait while the inconsistencies are resolved". I can't delete the project because aperture shuts down as soon as I click on the project. What can I do to delete the project? also I tried to upload the images again and it wont upload and get this message, master did not upload, it keeps spinning, I tried another card from the same shoot and the same thing.. Is this a Aperture problem, or could the cards be corrupt from the camera? This was a paid shoot and I have another paid shoot, Tomorrow which I'm canceling until I find the problem.. Also how can I get my raw files off the flash drive? Help my photographer Friends.. I'm going to see if I can upload a card, with images that I know worked..
Oh one more this my Aperture library in on an external hard drive, I have had no problem so far,, until now, that is.

update.. I opened Aperture on my mac book pro, they uploaded fine, so I guess in the external Hard drive. But still my question remains.. What can I do?

  • Opening aperture 2.1.3 shuts down computer

When opening Aperture 2.1.3 it suddenly shuts down the computer once it has fully started up, a problem I have never encountered before. Any suggestions to what may have happened and how to get it fixed?
    Cheers

There us no crash log, the whole computer just shuts down, zap out. No log gets written.
I tried to re-install Aperture, it loads and as soon as it is finished starting up the whole computer shuts down again. It only happens with Aperture. Before it was running ok.

  • Aperture won't shut down

I cannot close/quit or force quit Aperture. It wouldn't even let me (Shut Down) my computer. It said that Aperture "Stopped" the shut down because I need to close Aperture first. No matter what direction I go to try to access the "force quit" option, it is NOT an (Available) Option. So, I just turned off the power to the computer, since Aperture kept aborting my attempts to shut it down. It has "high-jacked" my computer...Heeelllp!!
Oh, and even AFTER I manually turned the computer off, when I turned it back on...Aperture it STILL open & unresponsive to ANY command...still open, still no way to quit or force quit.

When you "turned off the power" to the computer do you mean you unplugged it (desktop computer) ?  Or did you simply press the power button once ?  Or did you hold down the power button for a number of seconds to reset it ?
If you actually shut off the computer when you turn it back on you will see the whole boot sequence ... I can't imagine Aperture will remain in the suspended state at that point.

  • Aperture shuts down when switching program

    Hello,
For no obvious reason Aperture shuts down whenever I switch to another program such as Safari. What can I do?
    Thanks, Matt

What OS and App version are you using?
What messages are present in the Console when that happens?

  • Aperture shuts down when in one of my libraries. It works fine with other libraries. I have "repaired" that library numerous times but it does not help. Can someone help?

One of my Aperture libraries repeatedly causes Aperture to crash and shut down. I have gone to the repair page and "fixed/rebuilt" the library but the program still crashes. Other libraries work just fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am using the latest version of Aperture, although this problem began before I downloaded the most recent update. I am running on a 2009 MacBook Pro

Have you tried running Aperture on this library with preview generation deferred?
If not what you need to do is press & hold the shift key as soon as you start Aperture until it is all the way up. See Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics, Defer preview generation (about 2/3 rds of the  way down the page)
This won;t be a permanent fix but will tell you if there is a corrupt image in this library. Post back the results and we'll take it from there,
    good luck

  • Aperture shuts down after cropping

When I crop a photo, Aperture distorts the photo, locks up, then shuts down.  I have cropped before without problem.  What am I doing wrong?

If your profile is correct and you are running Aperture 2 on Mavericks then you are doing nothing wrong, Aperture 2 does not work well with 10.9 (or any OS since 10.7)
You're best course of action is to upgrade Aperture to the latest version (3.5.1).

  • Can't shut down, some applications don't close and others don't open

I installed Leopard about 3 weeks ago as a clean install not an update. Since then, I have frequent problems shutting down and con only do it manually. I also have some applications - like Firefox - which won't close - the blue light in the dock stays on even after I force quit. Other applications won't open - like Aperture - which seems to get stuck on the serial # screen and never gets further. I have also been getting the dreaded spinning wheel.
I was having this issue on Tiger but I am not sure if it is related to the same problem. It seemed to have something to do with Event Handler...but I am also getting messages similar to one I used to have. "Third Party Client Null - can't create semaphore lock". I am also getting a new message: "Please convert the following to launchd: etc.....
    Please help if you can...thanks

By clean install, do you mean "erase and install"? Did you reinstall the problematic progarm ("Event Handler")? If you did reinstall it, do you know if that particular program is Leopard compatible?
Also, what kind of system do you have?

  • How do you shut down a computer safely when Finder is not responding?

I've been having some problem with my Mac OS X lately where Aperture has been "not responding". Stupidly, I used forced shutdown of that program until I learned how bad this is.  So today I'm working on my mac (trying to learn what's wrong with Aperture) and the  beachball for Finder starts spinning and the program is not responding. How do I restart or shut down without damaging anything? I could "force quit" but don't know if this is bad for Finder, as it is bad for Aperture.  Help!

    Hi suzyfromks,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If a single application is unresponsive, you don't have any other option but to Force Quit.
Then I would suggest quitting your other open applications normally, and starting the computer in Safe Mode as explained in this article.
Mac OS X: How to troubleshoot a software issue
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1199
Regarding Aperture, I would suggest making sure you have a Time Machine backup of your computer, and follow these troubleshooting steps:

I hope this information helps ....
