Aperture Cross-Processing Effect

Hi Guys,
Does anyone have any good presets for creating a cross-processing effect in Aperture? What about bleach bypass?
Thanks

I've downloaded from that blog...coffeeshop blog...before without any issue. Grant's tool's appear clean. I've installed those and a lot of people on this forum have through the years without complaints of infection.
Truth told I haven't had any problems with any photoshop actions, patterns, layer styles, or brushes that I have downloaded. I've downloaded a lot through the years and only recently have I got alerts from my anti-virus when looking up anything Photoshop related.  So, far I'd say it's doing an image search to find something Photoshop related like a tutorial that is more likely to lead you to something nasty. I like doing an image search to see the result but am going to have to break myself of that habit.
Being on a Mac, you should watch out for video more these days with the cross-platform java trojan that's currently out there. I'm on a PC so I use anti-virus which detected and removed it a couple of weeks ago.
I've never used element+ so can not say how good it is but if you look up elements+ reviews you'll find people who downloaded the trial version from cnet and bothered to rank it and write a review were very negative in their comments about the program...1 out of 5 stars.

  • Cross-processing effect in Elements 8 for Mac?

I'm doing a free trial of Elements 8 on my Mac and am looking for a way to render cross-processing effects. I know that if you have a Windows PC, you can install a plug-in called SmartCurve which will enable to you to make the color adjustment curves demonstrated in this tutorial:
    http://carlzon.deviantart.com/art/Cross-processing-tutorial-28658861
It's not available for Mac, however. Is there a way for Mac users to create color adjustment curves in Elements, or another way to somehow render faux xpro effects?

  • Aperture cross-processing plugins

I've seen images with these really neat colours in their photographs, and was wondering, is there any special plugins for Aperture that you can get to give you an automatic cross-processed look or even a pastel look? Other than meticulous tweaking with Photoshop, is there any faster way to accomplish this? Any cool plugins you would recommend?

My Advice - Don't buy Tiffen's DFX product for Aperture.
Functionally I like it, but I just had an experience you may want to know about.
On July 21st I bought a copy of the DFX product for $299 - i thought it was really expensive and still think it is..... However, it just got worse... My HDD crashed and I just rebuilt it. I tried to load my license and it would not allow me to. It suggests I call Tiffen - I do and they tell me that I must have downloaded the new V2 product that was released on August 18th (<30 days after my initial purchase). I check - only V2 is available on their web site, so that's what I downloaded. In addition, the Apple Aperture plug-in page is how I located the plugin and that took me to V2.
So - Tiffen is going to call me back and tell me how to find V1 and load my License code, but they will not provide a free upgrade to V2. I can buy an upgrade for an additional $89.
Basically, I find this behavior despicable - launch a product on March 31 - sell it for close to 2X the price of the host program Aperture - update is 5 months later and charge an additional $89....
I was glad Apple was not being over controlling with these plug-ins, but I now wish they were.
I hope to get my v1 copy working again and then will never buy another produce (physical or SW) from them again.
I hope this helps you decide which company you want to invest you hard earned time and money in...
Probably should have bought NIK SW tools

  • Cross-processing in LR4

For some reason, I have this idea in my head that LR4 allows for cross-processing (where you can edit the curve for each of the R,G,B channels individually). Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, how it's done? I can't see how to do it by fumbling around the interface.
Also, I keep hearing about a "point curve" in LR, but I thought it's a tone curve. Maybe cross-processing is done in this "point curve" I have yet to find?
    Yes, I'm very LR ignorant.

    Thanks, I see that now...
@johnbeardy: I've tried to use Split Toning, but so far I'm striking out at coming up with anything that makes sense for the type of work I'm doing (portraiture, wedding).
@web-weaver: Those presets are a bit too strong for my purposes. Tried them out last night. I did come up with some of my own based on curves I've used in the past. Still tinkering...

  • After effects error: exception occurred while processing effect "Pixelate". ( 25 ::0 )

I'm using Adobe After Effect CS5.5 and I'm having a problem with the following errow message:
    PROBLEM / ERROR MESSAGE
After effects error: exception occurred while processing effect "Pixelate". ( 25 ::0 )
    SCENARIO
It happens when I apply pixelate to text and have the text move onscreen from offscreen...
To clarify, let's say I apply the "pixelate" effect to text and move it off screen. Then, I place a keyframe and move 10 frames down. Next, I place another keyframe (ten frames past the 1st keyframe), and I move the text to the center of the screen. When I play the comp, the error appears as soon as the text is first visible in the preview window (onscreen).
I've already tried the following websites, but none of there solutions work:
    http://myleniumerrors.com/2011/03/17/25-0/
    http://www.techyv.com/questions/error-when-reusing-compositions-adobe-after-effects
    Any thoughts?

I actually got it somewhat working...
    Here's my System Specs:
    Mac Pro
Processor 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory 12 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
    @Mylenium
I tried turning off Adaptive Resolution and/or turning of OpenGL. Nothing changed.
However, when I opened a new comp with only the text layer in question and tried messing with the keyframes, I found out something. If I move the keyframes closer (thus making the animation faster), the error didn't appear. But when I moved the keyframes farther away, the error appeared.
Ideally, I want the keyframes to move at it's original speed (not faster or slower).
    Any thoughts?

  • Cross Processing in Final Cut Pro...

Hi everyone, I have been trying to figure out how to cross process in final cut pro without buying a plugin. I searched around and have seen the plugins, but they are not the cross processed look that I am lookin for. If anyone knows how to do this in Final Cut, please let me know.

Between the "Bleach Bypass" filter available here (Well worth the money for the whole set but there is there is a demo version too).

  • Process Effects in Multitrack Greyed-Out...

How do I use the Process effects, if they're greyed-out?  I remember not having this problem before.  There was even a real time buffer that would show me how well my system was handling the effect and a way to lock the process to the track so it would be less CPU intensive.  I'm using Audition 3.0.  Were these features only available in previous versions?

    I figured it out!!!
Apparently Pitch shift does not work on files in the 22kHz range.  I upconverted my waves and am now in business!!!  Yay!

  • How Do You Apply Process Effects To Multiple Clips In A Multi-Track?

A multi-track sequence brought over from Premiere, I have over a dozen clips from a funeral service video that need noise reduction.
But, because it's a process effect, I can only work on one clip at a time. Furthermore, I may need to apply several passes of the NR effect to eliminate the noise without sounding weird.
How then do I apply that effect (and its parameters) to the rest of the clips in the sequence?
In Premiere, you can copy and paste effects (and their parameters) from one clip to another. There is no such thing in Audition that I can see.

    Hi, Alex.
It seems you want to do some broadband de-noise processing. While one can do a noisefloor sampling from one clip and apply it to others (great for when you have multiple takes from the same setup), it may be best to noise sample each individually if the mic has moved position enough to cause the tonal characteristics to change.
An example would be if on-screen talent is walking in an outdoor location. In one part of the location, a particular section of the clip has a lot of BG traffic noise. Another recording has a fountain in the BG - while it still may have some of the traffic in it, the predominant BG noisefloor is "strong fountain/weak traffic", so like others have mentioned, it makes more sense to make a new BG sampling to match the characteristics of this clip.
All that being said, here is how you BATCH PROCESS / broadband de-noise a bunch of clips, it's a 4-tiered / 21-step process when starting from scratch.
NOTE: there is a manual cheat after the Batch Processing lesson - skip to that if you wish
(WARNING - this type of processing is most successful if the file has been EQ'd or gain boosted (if needed) before processing. This is also true for the noisefloor sample. It should be taken from the pre-adjusted clip so that it all matches level)
    1) find / open a source clip that best represents the BG noisefloor you wish to sample as your broadband source for processing,
then in the WAVEFORM editor window press alt-shift-C to save this selection as a new file - give it a unique name that represents its function
         a. ideally, this selection will be more than 5000 samples
         b. should be free of non-BG noise sounds (Dx, footsteps, mouth sounds, it should sound like a very short ambiance loop)
    2) with your new sample saved and your source clip still open in the UI:
         a. load your noise print file
         b. adjust the Noise Reduction and Reduce by  sliders (I suggest you start with a noise reduction value of 100% with a reduce value of 3 to 6 dB)
         c. under Advanced Settings, set Spectral to 0%, Smoothing to 20, Precision to 7, and Transition width to 2dB - these settings
are like painting not with a wide brush but with a thinner brush, which means less cancellation of frequencies you want to keep and less artifacting
         d. toggle on/off the Output Noise Only function to see just what you are subtracting in your process - a great way to make adjustments until your
noisefloor-only sound is free of Dx and other Production sounds
         e. optional advanced step - in the process UI Frequency window, you can draw a curve to select the frequency ranges that will be processed - this is another
way of "thinning the brush" so that you are NOT processing where it's not needed in the broadband range - i.e. hiss from a low-quality mic,
             open the FA window [alt-Z] to see realtime Freq. Analysis on playback of your clip with the processing;
adjust your settings and the curve in the window to counter the frequency range of the noisefloor - this process is like alchemy, wicked awesome
         f. once you're happy with your settings,  click the Save Effects Preset button (down-arrow on hard-drive) next to the Presets pulldown button.
do NOT apply your process yet - that's the next step
    3) now, you're going to create the Favorite that the Batch Process will use to process your clips
         a. select Favorites / Start Recording Favorite (every user function of the software is now being recorded into a macro)
         b. in the Noise Reduction UI, click the Load Noise Print button and select your saved file
         c. now, select your preset from the pulldown menu
         d. click the Select Entire File button below the UI Freq. window
         e. click Apply
         f. click Favorites / Stop Recording Favorite
    4) now, under EDIT, select Batch Process
         a. select your new Favorite from the pulldown tab
         b. drag and drop the files into the Batch window or load them from the Load button in the upper left of the Batch window
         c. click the Export Settings button in the bottom left
         d. set any pre/postfix labeling additions (this works a lot like Adobe Bridge's Batch Rename tool - amending the original filename to differentiate
         e. set a NEW save location to isolate the files
         f. set the format / type / bitrate  (best to keep the original format or a higher quality); when finished, click OK
         g. in the lower right corner, click the RUN button and watch the magic right before your eyes
    [HERE IS THE CHEAT]
Now that you're learned the magic of batch processing (FYI a new favorite can contain / execute multiple existing effect processes), here is what I recently did in a doc with interview footage - guys in front of a green screen with a less than perfect sound environment.
    1) in Multitrack mode, double-click your clip to process
    2) in Waveform mode, select the noisefloor area to sample and type shift-P
    3) type ctrl-shift-P to open the UI - adjust your De-noise settings for ALL of your processing
    4) type ctrl-A to select the entire file
    5) click Apply; type ctrl-shift-S to save this processed file (I add "_PROC") as an alternate to the original which still exists should you want to go back to it easily - the ALT file will be in the multitrack timeline
    6) type G (de-select I/O area) then type F12 key - returns to Multitrack mode
    7) double-click your next clip to process and repeat steps 3-7 until finished (you won't need to tweak the settings in 3 after the initial step 3)
    In 3-5 minutes, you're Done!
I discovered another layer of coolness within Audition regarding CLIP Effects Racks where one can setup a stack of effects, save as a User Preset, and apply them to either an individual clip, a set of clips, or to a track.  This is great when you want to apply, for example, a Parametric EQ for filtering an outdoor location or boosting a lav mic's High Freq. Shelf for addition sibilance PLUS a Tube-modeled Compressor to handle dynamics...you spend a lot of time tweaking the settings "just right", and now you want to apply to more than one clip on a track.
In a short film I'm working on, I use this technique to apply EQ and Room Ambiance (reverb) to camera perspective changes on a single track of ADR for off-camera Dx.  I place the Dx in a track. Splice on the camera edits to make unique clips, select the Audio Perspective preset I made for each camera angle, and Voila!
    Have fun!

  • Cross Dissolve Effect

If you have a bunch of clips connected, is there a way to apply the cross dissolve effect to all of the clips at one time?

    Yes.
Select those you require in Timeline and drag them to the Canvas Overlay that says Overwrite with Transition.
You will require Media Handles to be attached to the clips for this to work.

  • Aperture 3 - processing speed increase

I have a large Aperture 3 library and am in process of purchasing a new iMac.  Which would give me the most Band for the Buck?  Fastest i7 processor?  16 Gb Ram?  or Graphics card with 2 GB?  Might not be able to afford all three, but which is most beneficial?

Any system you buy now will beat the pants off any system that's been out for a few years. So whatever you do you're going to get improved performance.
Memory is important 8gb is the minimum you'd want. Apple over charges for memory and adding to an iMac is really simple so get the minimum from Apple (4gb) and upgrade later.
If you're looking at upgrading to 2gb of graphic memory you're talking about the 27inch 3.1ghz iMac. It comes standard with 1gb of graphic memory. If you're not going to do a lot of heavy video editing, lots of effects and transitions, stuff like that or if you're not a gamer then 1gb is sufficient.
The only two systems that have a cpu upgrade are the 21.5inch 2.7ghz and the 27inch 3.1ghz again. Of course the 21.5inch doesn't have the graphics update so I don't think you are referring to this box. If you are then yes here I would bump the cpu.
If you're looking at the 27inch then you're going from 4 cores and 4 thread to 4 cores and 8 threads plus the bump in clock speed. Here I think the decision rests on how long you intend to keep the system. Current software is just starting to make use of all that extra power in 3 or 4 years you'd expect more software making use of it. So if you turn over machines in a year or two I'd stay with the stock cpu. If you plan on keeping the machine over 3 years I'd go with the upgrade.
I'd also go with the 2tb disk. Having the Aperture library on the internal spindle is the best way to go. If you need to you can always move the masters to an external drive at some point.
One thing not on your list is an SSD. A lot of folk here swear by them. I have no personal experience so I can't say but it does seem interesting.
    good luck,
    regards

  • Aperture 3 Processes Original RAW Files into a Grainy Mess

I just installed Aperture 3, updated to 3.0.3, and imported a few of my photos (taken with a Sony Alpha) from iPhoto 09 and a few from a Canon 5D Mk II. My iPhoto Edited, Raw files process, load, and the original appears. However, my Original RAW files continue to process and look extremely grainy. What can I do?

Do you have some sort of import preset set?

  • Aperture RAW processing too dark?

I recently imported a set of pictures of my daughter into my Aperture library.  Everything went smoothly and looked great with the previews looking like I expected.  I even went through each picture one by one and flagged the ones I wanted to edit.  After editing a few I went back again and looked at the unedited pictures to see if there were any more i wanted to flag and edit.  Upon doing this, I noticed that after Aperture finished "Loading..." a couple pictures, they automatically got significantly darker.  A couple of them to the point that adjusting "Exposure" to the highest setting makes it barely acceptable for use.  On one picture I noticed got even darker after the 2nd "Loading..." process.
As a test I exported the originals to my desktop, loaded them in Lightroom, and voila, the pictures are back to their "non-dark" selves.  Therefore, I believe this is an Aperture issue and I have no idea why re-"Loading..." the RAW originals would make an image even darker.  I've attempted to reprocess the originals but it pops up that none of the images need reprocessing.
    Any suggestions?

Are you using any in-camera post-exposure processing?
(Added:) Have a look at Keith Barkley's  User Tip regarding setting your camera to get the best exposure in RAW for Aperture.

  • Aperture 3 processes same 519 images on startup

Every time I open Aperture 3.2.2 it says "processing" and I open the activity window and see that it is processing 519 images.  It gets through all 519 and then the processing stops...but after I quit Aperture, the next time I open it it goes back to processing those same 519 images.  It moves through them relatively quickly (about 5-7 minutes tops) but I can see that it's going through the same files again and again.
I think this might be related to an issue I'm having with Apple TV 2 seeing the latest edits I've done to photos.
I have it set to share previews with iLife / iWork.  I also have my projects set to "Maintain Previews For All Projects"
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Well I'm lucky in that the processing of the 519 images doesn't prevent usage of Aperture.  It completes the processing of the 519 images every time.  I've looked at some of the images that it's re-processing....should I update previews / regenerate previews of them?  Or what exactly does processing entail?
    Thanks.
