Apex+Cocoon PDF Printing issue  on printing Large Reports

Hello All,
I m in a real hard situation with PDF printing in apex.. The application manages to push the report into PDF with lesser record reports but for Large reports, it says File corrupted when i open the downloaded PDF file..
I use Apex+Coocoon and fop printing. I found from some forums as this issue was with Java Heap size being lesser and asked me to increase the size.. so i increased the size from 128MB to 1024MB and my server settings allows me to set 1550MB at the maximum..
If i cross this limit the TOMCAT server stops from running...
But all of the above was not much fruitful, since it throws again the same errors if report rows crosses 6000+ rows, can any one help me out, do i need to check any other settings to make my large reports printable in PDF.
My application needs to print around *20000+ rows each report may have at least 20 columns* to get printed...
Much awaited for your assistance

Matt,
On this note, it probably also makes sense to mention that with APEX 3.1 we introduce a PL/SQL API that gives you much broader control over what is generated how and the method it's made available to the client. You'll get the ability to retrieve the PDF in a BLOB directly on the server, store in your own tables for later download or send via email attachment. You'll also get the ability to write your own download process using after-submit page processes. And you can have combinations of your own XML with your own stylesheets, or combine report queries with customer stylesheets at runtime, or just simply retrieve the results of pre-defined report queries / report layouts in BLOBs.
I'll talk about this much more on my Blog once 3.1 is out, and will provide whitepapers, how-to's etc

Marc

  • Printing issue in Commercial Invoice Report for Oracle Reports Version 6i

    Hello All,
I am working on modifying rdf for Commercial Invoice i.e. WSHRDINV.rdf for Oracle Apps Version 11.0.3 to display Customer Part and Customer PO as the seeded report do not print Customer Po and Customer Part in its output. I am done with the modification too but I am getting a minor issue regarding Printing the Customer Po and Customer Part. As per the requirement i need to switch the places of Customer Po and Customer Part. But when I switch its places and when only Customer PO is available against a Order Number, the Customer PO is getting printed in place of Customer Part. I tried changing its properties too. But still getting printed in place of Customer Part.
Here, Customer Part is under different group and Customer PO is under different group. And Customer Part repeating frame comes under Customer PO repeating Frame.
Can anyone please suggest why Customer PO is getting printed in place of Customer Item when only Customer PO is against a Order Number and not Customer Part.
    Thank You

    Hi Gregor
i am using the Developer 9.0.4 and i too have the same problem. i have seen your posting and made the required changes as required. but here my page sizes differs in my case
    i have mainly 3 sizes
    1. Width = 8" (77)
    Height = 6 " (36)
    2. Width = 9" (84)
    Height = 8 " (48)
    3. Width = 11" (90)
    Height = 6 " (36)
i have used the dflt file and created the replica of those with the required sizes. i have no problem as such with the width of the print. But height of the paper size is not taken as required. its by default taking the paper size as width = 9" (80) and height = 12" (72)
Can u let me know how to get the desired output of mine.

Andreas Weiden You use thisI'm pretty sure i never used "Oracle Reports Remote Printing Utility 1.3.4" ;)
In "WHEN-TIMER-EXPRIED"Why do you have to use a timer for this. I don't think its necessary.
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('c:\temp\'||:GLOBAL.PrintOutPut,'_blank') ;Web.SHOW_DOCUMENT shows a WEB-url and c:\temp\ definitely is none.
I am trying to use "Oracle Reports Remote Printing Utility 1.3.4 (ORARRP)"And where do you use this? I don't find any call in your code..

  • Epson R2400: Printing Issue: Dark printing after 10.7?

This question goes out to all of the Epson R2400 printer owners whom, if you're like me and have had one for a while, seem to have printing issues after every little change in the OS:
In Brief: Printing to the Epson R2400 via USB direct from iMac was printing well; outputing from InDesign, PhotoShop, and Acrobat Pro (all are CS5). I am not 100% sure because this is not a printer that I use daily, but I believe that I am having these printing issues after upgrading to 10.7.2 from 10.7.1.
The issue is that an output is very dark overall, or (after tweaking settings) will have a dramatic color shift to heavy magenta/black. In general, my traditional printer settings no longer produce correct outputs.
Anyone that has any suggestions or similar issues, I would like to hear about it.
    Notes:
    1. Yes, I completed all of the tradional voodoo magic: I cleared the printer caches, removed the printer, setup a new printer, updated the drivers via Apple software update, then once that didn't work, updated the drivers from Epson - even reverting to the older v6.5 drivers. I'm now back to the v8 drivers from the Apple software update.
    2. My printing tests are being conducted using a standard color test file that I've used to calibrate color on this Epson R2400 for years. I generally know that when this file doesn't print correctly something is afoot.
    3. My first attempt at correction was simply checking head alignment and completing a general cleaning of the heads. Didn't help.
    4. General question: Does anyone know of a compatible printer manufacturer of similar quality of output that actually cares about Mac users? Epson just never seems to really care about keeping their Apple drivers up to date or making sure that they work properly. Humble opinion.

Ok. I believe that it all comes down to the use of a third-party ink.
I didn't realize that there was a switch to a "refill" ink (to save money it appears) on the light-light-black and magenta. Switching back to Epson ink cleared the matter up.
I guess sometimes it's the simple things that elude us...

  • Lightroom printing issue with print server

I have a DP-G310 print server set up. It works fine with every programme but Adobe Lightroom. When I click print after a while I get the message failed to print. All my other programmes print ok, IE Word, Wordpad, Indesign CS3, Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3. The printer I am using is a Canon i9900. I also use a HP cp1700 set up on the same system the same way and has the same problem with Lightroom. If I turn the computer off after the page failed to print (not restart) and then turn the computer back on, it prints. Lightroom prints ok when I connect with a normal USB cable. I am using windows XP, 2gb ram Lightroom 1.4 .1 The same thing happens with Lightroom 2 Beta. Any ideas would be welcome.
Just in case anyone has a similar problem, this isue has nothing to do with Lightroom. By trial and error I discovered the problem was caused by my internet connection and was initiated by Lightroom connecting to the internet checking for updates. If anyone has any ideas how I can sort out this conflict so I can use Lightroom and print wirelessly at the same time as being on the Interenet I would be grateful.
    Thanks

  • APEX - Cocoon PDF Generates as attachment (issue)

    Hello,
[bumped as issue has come to light again, does anyone have any ideas???]
We have Application Express 3.01 with PDF printing configured the Apache Tomcat + Cocoon way. Our APEX instance runs over https on an internal network.
Everything works with no issues, except that in the environment that we are running, browsers are IE configured with an advanced option "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" set (for security reasons related to another application).
PDF's are served as attachments, this means that when you click the "Print PDF" link you are presented with an Open/ Save dialogue. If you click "Open", the file fails to open (as it has not been saved to disk). Everything is fine if you click "Save" then subsequently open the file. It's the same deal with CSV files using the standard APEX CSV generation. If we turn off the security option in IE, it all works fine, even the "Open", but rolling this change out to users is not an option.
This issue comes down to the HTML that the PDF document is being wrapped in. The content-disposition must be being set to "attachment", whereas in this situation we would prefer it set to "inline" which would mean that the PDF opens in the users' browser.
We have tried adding a map:act type="set-header" line to the sitemap.xmap to set the content-disposition but it seems to have no effect, presumably because APEX fires off XML and FO to cocoon, gets back a PDF then generates the HTML to send back to the user.
    Other methods we've considered are:
    - Apache mod_rewrite entries to rewrite the content-disposition on the Apex web server.
    - Adding a before header application process to try to intercept the html and rewrite it manually
Neither of the above are getting us anywhere, does anyone have any ideas? If no-one has any ideas, can you explain how you get from posting a FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R request to getting back a PDF and whether there's anything along the way that could be tapped into?
Many thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Matt

  • Apex long time waiting! APEX + COCOON = PDF Carl's blog

    Hello!
    Help me, please!
I need to print reports in PDF.
    What I did:
    1 I installed Apache Tomcat 6.0.14
    2 I installed Cocoon 2.1.10
All works fine! http://localhost:8080/Cocoon opened OK
    3 I copied fop_post to \apache-tomcat-6.0.14\webapps\cocoon\ , now I have apache-tomcat-6.0.14\webapps\cocoon\fop_post\sitemap.xmap
4 In apex I choose : Oracle BI Publiser - Standart Support
    print server host address 192.168.1.112
    print server port 8080
    print server script \cocoon\fop_post\
Now I make simple report consists from 1 column from a simple table like emp table, and choose.
    Output format - PDF
Report Layout - Default Report Layout
    Apex is English.
I read that can be problem if I'll write use point in (example) 0.5 and everywhere I used 1.
When I run the programm and click print button I have error message : Acrobat could not open 'a[1].pdf' because is either not a supported file type or because
the file has been damage ......
I saved this file and opened with text editor but there was nothing and size of this file is 0 kb.
HEINZ, show me to slash/backslash and after I change to /cocoon/fop_post/ appear new problem: now APEX LONG TIME WAITING AND DO NOTHING.
PLEASE, explain me where is problem and how to solve it?
    Thank you!!!

    Hello,
It's seems that the version of Apache coming with Oracle 9.2 is used instead of Apache-Tomcat is a normal behavior?Ok just so this is up front , what Oracle ships and my Cocoon setup are two different things and shouldn't effect each other.
The only place the Cocoon server and APEX should touch is the print server URL set in the Instance Administration . The link in the page should look like it goes to your APEX instance, the first one, because what it does is tell the APEX instance to post the XML to the print server
When we manually change the port number to So your doing this by hand and trying to use in a browser locations bar , this will not work it's not supposed to work that. Or did you actually change your print server URL in Instance Administration
What do your Tomcat logs say? If they don't say anything then the XML post isn't even touching Tomcat / Cocoon.
I'll try and help out as much as I can but I've done multiple installations of Cocoon and APEX and each has worked everytime as advertised, well one didn't work and that was when I messed up the URL in Instance Administration and most people that's the problem they have, either wrong/extra slash's or misspelling or just forgetting to do it.

  • Printing issues when printing to Server 2008 R2 Print Server

We have a problem with netwok printing that encompasses many different areas and versions of Windows OSes so I will be posting this in a few different places.
Let me lay this out for you. We have a single Server 2008 R2 print server with 300 printers of various models. This print server has both 32 and 64-bit drivers installed for every printer. For the HP printers we are using the HP Universal Printing PCL 6
(version 61.94.3.37) and for the Ricoh printers we are using their PCL6 driver for universal printing version 3.5. All drivers run in Isolation mode and no printer gets published to AD.
We have a mix of Windows clients printing to these printers, both XP Pro and Windows 7 32 and 64-bit.
Now for the problems: The other day one Isolation host on the server went crazy, processing was hitting 100% and memory was fluctuating and growing a lot. After investigating a little that isolation host was having issues accessing the Ricoh Driver (which
was 3.4 at the time). In an attempt to resolve the issue we updated the driver to V. 3.5. This seemed to fix the isolation issues and things calmed down however this is the beginning of many other issues for the clients. Both Windows OS versions (XP and 7)
don't seem to be either downloading and installing the updated driver and/or doing so correctly. Clients are now experiencing extremely slow printing, applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel and others open slowly and it can take 2-3 minutes for print dialog
boxes to open. In all cases it seems that we have to have a tech delete the printer(s), delete the driver and then re-install the printer to make things better but for some reason, which is really unknown, this process doesn't work for every machine and on
some we can't even remove the old drivers at all without booting into SafeMode and doing it that way.
With all of that said, are there any suggestions as to why the clients aren't downloading and installing the drivers from the server correctly? How to avoid these issues when we need to upgrade the drivers on the server in the future? Most importantly right
now, are there any recommendations or scripts on how to force the deletions of the printer, driver, reset the print spoolers and then re-add the printers in a more automated fashion?
I have played with both wmic, pnputil and printuidll and am trying to put something together but without a set solution that will work consistently it becomes a lot more difficult.

We are experiencing a very similar issue.
Windows Server 2008 R2. Printers are deployed over group policy.
Clients range from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp environment also connects to these endpoints.
We have A wide assortment of HP printers, and Ricoh Printers.
For the ricoh's we have been historically using the PCL6 drivers for the individual device type (not universal print). Up till recently, it all was working fine, until about some time in the middle of june, when everything just seemed to go crazy.
The issue was resolved by moving off from the PCL 6 drivers and using the PCL5e driver counterparts on all of our ricoh printers.
It would crash XenDesktop applications, it would crash office applications.
The print spooler would lock up, even if the ricoh printers were not actually used, just as long as they were loaded.
Even after loading PCL5 on the servers, some of the clients would simply not download the PCL5 version of the driver from the print server. In order to resolve this, I have created the steps below. Be advised, this may possibly cause damage on your system.
We just found it worked great for us. Local printers will likely have to be manually reinstalled after this.
    Directions
    Stop the print spooler
Open C:\Windows\System32\Spool and delete the following
    All files in SERVERS
    All files in PRINTERS
    All files in drivers
    All files in prtprocs
    Start the print spooler
Open a command prompt as administrator, and run the following command
    Cscript C:\windows\system32\Printing_Admin_Scripts\en-US\prndrvr.vbs -x
This should further delete all print drivers.
Open a command prompt as a standard user (not administrator) and run the following
    Gpupdate
Now wait. It takes a while, but the printers will slowly start to repopulate.
I am still not sure what is going on with the PCL6 drivers for ricoh, and why this issue is happening. I'm guessing it has something to do with the Ricoh auto update that is included in their pcl6 drivers. Maybe some sort of auto update happened recently.

    Hello
I have issues printing over my wirless network using a mac and printing on C5100 all in one. When the printer is running and I start up my mac (running 10.8.3) I can print the windows documents. However if the printer is switched on after the mac is switched on it can not find the printer.
I reinstalled the all the drivers on the mac and set a fixrd ip adress for the printer but both doesnt work. same issue with a second mac laptop also running 10.8.3
Anybody an idea what this could be?
    Tahnks in advance

I am thinking the router does not support Bonjour (otherwise known as mDNS).  Macs need this service to be able to find the printer.
Get into the router settings and look for Bonjour or mDNS and make sure it is enabled. Also, make sure the multicasting is enabled in the router.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try changing your default paper size in System Preferences...>Print & Fax>Printing.
Is there any reason that you are still using 10.4.1? The current system is 10.4.10.

  • Cocoon pdf printing

    Hi,
I have followed Carl's very concise blog on using cocoon for pdf printing. http://carlback.blogspot.com/2007/03/apex-cocoon-pdf-and-more.html
I have tomcat and cocoon up and running on linux (NOT a five minute task on linux unless you are a sysadmin, with all respect to Carl). I have my apex (3.2 on XE ) install pointed to it under Manage Service> Instance Settings > Report Printing.
Now I'm trying to get reports to use this plumbing, but I'm not seeing a builder dialog under Print Attributes> Printing anything like Carl shows in his viewlet. I get only settings for Response Header and Content Disposition, but Carl is showing Enable Report Printing, Link Lable, File Name, Output Format, and Report Layout.
How does the builder decide when to display that kind of Report metadata? Does it have to connect to the print server or "know" that it is up to prompt for that? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Sorry, it was a silly problem:) You have to be logged in as admin to 'see' the 'instances' tab. maybe in all the tomcat/cocoon build/config issues, this simply got off my head!
now, the problem of print server config is over, I have configured the same. the 'print' link is available now in report region, when I run the report. but when I click the 'print' link, it is taking ages...or rather it is still processing...!!
Can anyone please point out to me now what is the problem...?
    thanks.
