Apex hosting

Hi,
I'm in the process of creating a site with Apex that will generate some $'s for the person I'm building the site for. As apex.oracle.com can not be used for commercial sites I will have to find an Apex “ISP”
I’m looking for a hosting plan that can start low, in price, bandwidth etc, and grow as the visitors and needs increase.
I’ve contacted a few of the hosting sites listed on the [Apex hosting page|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/apex_com_hosting.html] but have not heard from them after 5 days.
Now I know the potential $’s they can earn from me is small, but I do find the long time in replying disturbing. What if my production site is down? Will they then take 5+ days to respond as well?
I also find that some of the sites mentioned on the Apex Hosting page contain no information about the Apex hosting except a short sentence that they do provide it.
Ok that is my gripe out of the way.
Can anybody suggest a reliable affordable, Apex “ISP” ??
Kind regards
Johannes
Ps. I know I’m being cheap but my budget is +/- 7.50 Euro p/m. The guy I’m building the site for just got declared bankrupt and I’m building it for him out of friendship and I wil pay hosting costs for the 1st 2 years.

Rob,
Just to clarify, I have nothing to do with Apexskins at all (other than hosting it for the owner), so I'm not sure which themes you're referring to?
Thanks,

REWARDS: Please remember to mark helpful or correct posts on the forum, not just for my answers but for everyone!Hi John,Sorry, I didnt mean to suggest you were. I was just explaining one of my (minor) exasperations when I was looking for some custom themes. Having bought your book - and learnt from many of the constributions you and your co-conspiritor have made here, when I was looking for alternate themes I scanned your website first. I saw this...
^Template Factory^
^Whether you want a completely customised look and feel to your application or you just want a change from the standard built-in themes and templates that are shipped with Application Express, our experienced APEX experts together with our talented graphic designers can come up with the design that suits your needs.^
^You can either give us a specific design or idea to work with, or leave it completely up to us to come up with a unique design for you, alternatively you may wish to use one of our custom designs from our library.^
I like the idea of being able to browse a library and possibly buy. But I was unable to do so on the site. So I looked elsewhere, and as I say, eventually made purchases from both www.apexskins and www.apex-themes. I didnt realise you were the host.
In any case, this was more a case of me being frustrated at not being able to do what I wanted when I wanted, and not meant to be a damning criticism.
Keep up the good work - you and many others in this forum have improved my own skill sets, so thank you!
Cheers,
Rob

  • (( APEX host needed - Suggestions? ))

    July 29, 2010
    Hello,
    I am new to APEX.
    I am learning APEX with
    APEX.ORACLE.COM
    I would like to find an INEXPENSIVE APEX HOST--
    that is a GOOD HOST.
    I would like to spend $10 month.
    (Maybe $15 or so if necessary.)
    Is it possible to get a GOOD HOST in this price range?
    I would like to get FEEDBACK
    about HOSTS people are using.
    Information like this would help me and a LOT of new
    APEX users:
    WHAT HOST are you using?
    How much are you PAYING?
    How GOOD is their SERVICE?
    Do they have PHONE SUPPORT?
    How fast is their EMAIL / TICKET support?
    Is it in the U.S? UK? India? Where?
    How much do you LIKE them?
    Do they have any MAJOR LIMITATIONS?
    Are they RELIABLE?
    Is there anything you DON'T LIKE about them?
    What do you LIKE MOST about them?
    Your answers will help me and A LOT of other people!
    Thanks for your help.
    I really appreciate it!

    Hi
    We have been using http://www.maxapex.com for last 2 years. Very satisfied. Initially we hosted our Issue Tracking system at MaxApex. After that we hosted several applications for different clients. Everyone satisfied.
    Their hosting plan starts with $10/month for 25MB. Support is prompt. They have gone extra mile for us many times if we need anything special. Servers are in US.

  • Apex hosting 4 gbytes price per year?

    Hi all,
    Where can be found apex hosting with stable
    IP address, 4 gbytes, minimum one year?
    thanks in advance
    Gordan

    I second the idea to not judge service by website design. I made that mistake. I first signed up with someone who's website design is very professional. After dealing with their support staff, it became very apparent that they don't really support APEX. Here's an excerpt from a trouble ticket to see what I mean:
    <em><strong>My Original Problem</strong>
    Can't execute stored procedure as URL
    I've been in contact with you via email on this. I have not receive any reply for the past few days. Thought I'd switch this to a trouble ticket to get some visibility.
    In my last email, I said:
    What I'm trying to accomplish is to store data in a BLOB column in the database. Then using some HTP calls in my package, it sends the data back to the browser (Denes Kubicek's method). This allows me to use simple html tags in the apex pages to go directly to the URL for the package. I've tried several other methods, but this is the only one I've found that gives me such precise control over how the data gets presented on the page.
    I'm just wondering if you can help me with this or not.
    You can see what I'm talking about on page 2-21 and 2-22 in the Oracle Application Express Administration Guide Release 3.1.2 E12856-01.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10513_01/doc/appdev.310/e12856.pdf

    Re : Can't execute stored procedure as URL
    Hello,
    We are not sure what is it we need to do. We beleive this is more application design issue rather than APEX hosting issue
    <strong>My Response on 11/3/2008 10:18:50 PM</strong>
    Re : Can't execute stored procedure as URL
    I think I made a mistake by including the information that I used to fix the problem on my development server.
    Going back to my original problem: I am receiving a 403 Forbidden error with the following URL: http.www.somenonsense.xyz/pls/apex/my_package.jpg?img_id=31
    This is a permission issue on your server.
    <strong>Their Response on 11/4/2008 1:17:53 AM</strong>
    Re : Can't execute stored procedure as URL
    Hello, unfortunately this procedure does not work in our environment.
    We are seeing [Tue Nov 04 01:06:47 2008] [error] [client 24.46.67.250] mod_plsql: /pls/apex/mypackage.jpg HTTP-403 It is forbidden to call this procedure directly from the browser!
    You are the only client asking this change, therefore we can not risk breaking working APEX for 1 request.
    If you'd like money back , we fully understand</em>
    I'm sure that the hosting company's many other hosting services like mySQL are better supported, but I'd never go back to them as an APEX hosting site. So, I would suggest that you contact the support of any hosting site you are considering for APEX and ask some questions. I did this with maxapex and got very good response times from them. I actually was able to hold an email conversation with their support over a number of days. That might mean they're a smaller company, but APEX is the only thing they do, so they know it really well.

  • APEX_MAIL support on Oracle's free APEX hosting site

    Did anybody know the status of APEX_MAIL support on Oracle's free APEX hosting site (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=....)?
    I tested the following 'after submit' process in a testing APEX page without any error message.
    begin
    APEX_MAIL.SEND (
    p_to => 'my_email_address',
    p_from => 'my_email_address',
    p_body => 'This is a test from APEX form button -- number 5',
    p_subj => 'Test Subject ');
    end;
    But I did not receive the email.

    I tried different hotmail and yahoo mail addresses.
    If p_to and p_from were the same hotmail email addresses, the emails would be lost.
    if p_to and p_from were the same yahoo email addresses, the emails would be received.
    This is something caused by hotmail.
    The test can be done in SQL commands screen.
    APEX_MAIL.PUSH_QUEUE ('localhost',25) did work beautifully.
    You could see the message as follows in the SQL commands screen.
    Pushing email 4600499720366254834

  • APEX hosted site slow response issues

    Hi,
    Is anyone else experiencing slow response issues when navigating through the hosted (apex.oracle.com) APEX site. About a 2-3 weeks ago we started noticing that it takes a long time to log into the site as well as navigate through anything
    This might sound odd but often times how we would workaround it is by repeatedly "re-clicking" a link or a button to get the page to return. Whenever the site is slow in respnding we wound see "Waiting for apex.oracle.com" in the browser's bottom console.
    We see the same issue with IE or Firefox and its only the apex.oracle.com site that has this problem.

    As I posted on another thread:
    Sorry for the lack of a reply here. With the long holiday in the U.S. and then my past two days of this week, spending at least a half a day each on apex.oracle.com, I haven't been paying attention to the discussion forums. I was unaware of this active thread.
    Don't worry Ben, I'm not going to say "It's fine for me". TKyte had identified a bug or two in Ask Tom over the weekend, and I tried to fix them on Monday morning. What should have taken me 10 minutes took me two hours.
    This has been my top priority for the past two days. There are some networking issues still being researched. A configuration change was made earlier today which seems to have alleviated the issue, but I'm not convinced that it will be a permanent fix.
    Understand that this has not been a database issue nor an Application Express issue. Every time the performance was glacial, both yesterday and today, I examined the database and there was hardly anything going on. It was a hardware (filer) issue a month ago, and it appears to be either firewall or network card or network issue or all three. Regardless, I am embarrassed for Oracle's sake - this should be our flagship for Oracle Application Express, and the past month or two of poor performance can only serve to dissuade from using Oracle and Oracle Application Express.

  • Problem with Apex hosted SQL Workspace

    Hi,
    I am having trouble with using currval on this site in SQL workshop. I have a demo table and have defined a sequence via sql. I successfully insert a sequence_name.nextval but when I try to add a related child record with current value of the sequence I keep getting this:
    ORA-08002: sequence ORDERS_ORDER#_SEQ.CURRVAL is not yet defined in this session
    I can check on nextval from dual and I can select the currval from dual also but when I try to use the currval in an insert, I get the same error above. Also, sometimes I get the same message even when selecting currval from dual. Seems like a problem with Apex at this hosted site. Or does Apex SQL workshop have issues with currval.

    Scott, Can you explain a little more about the difference between a hidden item that is set to display never & the other type of item which I am assuming is "display as text saves state" and display never?
    When I viewed the source for both of these I could not see the items in source code.
    Also for an item that is passed into a popup I am exposing hidden item's identity is there a different way to pass values... here is my example:
    <!-- Begin of popup for DNS_NAME -->
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    <!-- window size was 800*600 -->
    <!-- window size was 400*300 -->
    function popupPage(url) {w = open(url,"winDnsName","Scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=500,height=450"); if (w.opener == null) w.opener = self; w.focus(); }
    //-->
    </script>
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function callDnsNamePopup (IPId) {
    var IPId = document.getElementById('P103_IP_ID').value;
    var url;
    url = 'f?p=110:106:2066309280674317::::P106_IP_ID:' + IPId;
    w = open(url,"winDnsName","Scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=800,height=600");
    if (w.opener == null)
    w.opener = self;
    w.focus();
    </script>
    <!-- END of popup for DNS Name -->
    At the same time if I set an item as hidden and display never I cannot use it with a call to a popup...

  • How to hide or mask the url in APEX Hosted environment

    Please anyone help me...
    Regards
    Pavan

    Hello Pavan,
    You should not use http://apex.oracle.com/ for production applications
    Hiding app_id, session_id etc. from URL - it's been discussed several time in forum, see Nicer URL for an Oracle APEX application | Inside Oracle APEX by Patrick Wolf

    It would be much appreciated if you could fix it a.s.a.p

    for example :
    begin
    apex_mail.send(

  • Oracle Apex Hosted Account

    Hello, all,
    Does anyone know if the Oracle-provided environment for ApEx times out after a certain number of days? I was working in the environment today, left it and when I tried to go back in, my credentials wouldn't work. Or is there some other reason for the credentials not to work (a down server, for example)
    ThX!

    Hi, thanks for your response.
    I'm not adding any new rows, I'm just trying to change the values of the textarea fields in the tabular report when the user chooses to load his/her saved parameters. The default for the textarea field in all rows is null, because I assume users will want to start building the report from scratch. However, when the user clicks the button to load his/her saved values, I want to overwrite the null values with new values. How can I do that?
    Thanks,

  • Installing APEX on a website hosted by an external hosting service provider

    I have an external hosting service provider who provide hosting service based on LAMP stack. Has anyone on this forum installed APEX on the servers of these hosting service providers..
    Would appreciate inputs.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    APEX requires an Oracle DB to install into (and run), so you can't use MySQL or any other database.
    However, the good news is that there are already hosting providers who provide APEX Hosting, there is a list of some of them available here -
    http://wiki.shellprompt.net/bin/view/Apex/HostingExamples
    I run one of those Hosting companies (Shellprompt), so feel free to contact me directly if you need any more information ([email protected]).
    Hope this helps,
    John.

  • APEX vs PHP hosting cost

    Am new to APEX so please pardon the ignorance. Am trying to decide on a platform for a small application i have to build for a potential client.
    As a long time Oracle developer, I was able to pickup APEX very quickly and was excited at the prospect of not having to learn a new language like PHP.
    However, hosting services for APEX applications seem to be extremely costly compared to PHP/MySQL.
    How are organizations able to justify the cost ? Or am I missing something ?
    Thanks

    I have some sympathy here. I help run a dog training school. We are all volunteers, we make no money and we all have day jobs.
    I want to put some of the training schedules, notes and class lists on the web so that the instructors don't have to keep their own manual notes. I'm paying £6 per year to host my mySQL database and PHP.
    However my heart is broken with the thing. I have a day job, and I can't spend the time on it. Yes there are tools out there that can help generate the code, but nothing compares to what APEX can do. I just can't be bothered coding all the HTML and PHP. Then I've got to make sure it's secure, ugh!
    However for a 12 person system I can't go and ask them all to help pay for APEX hosting.
    If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Maybe if someone from Oracle is listening they could alter the terms of using apex.oracle.com so I could host the app there, I don't mind backing it up myself, it will only change a couple of times a week. Make it that no person identifiable data is loaded and that it can't be used for commerical purposes. Think of the take up it could bring to APEX.

  • Great Apex Shared hosting at affordable prices

    A few days ago I was feeling pretty down about being able to find and affordable a GOOD Apex hosting site for my production app as an alternative to apex.oracle.com, but I now found a company that I really feel good about.
    I've only been with them for a few days but I just have a fantastic feeling about them. They are small but boy their response/service up to know has simply been fantastic. Don't expect 24x7 response; but then I didn't have to wait longer than 6-7 hours for a reply to my emails. They are at GMT+2 and I'm at GMT+1 so depending on your location your "mileage" might differ, but they always do respond.
    In a email I got from them they said:
    "As a I mentioned, for our initial foray we are seeking to simply place a small number of clients on the server and it keep it undersold in terms of resources. The goal is a small, but viable, number of happy clients with enough "elbow room" to avoid resource issues. As a new provider of shared hosting, *we can't afford customers who are unhappy or dissatisfied with the product.*"
    Now that is what I want a small shop were service still counts.
    Curious to know who they are, go see [Application Outsource UK|http://www.application-outsource.co.uk/APEX_Hosting.htm] , but hurry, remember they limit the # off clients per server.
    ps: just remember you cant import an App export from apex.oracle.com into a older version of Apex. So you might have to wait until Apex 3.2 is available & Application Outsource UK can upgrade. I was lucky I made a backup before Oracle did the upgrade :-)

    "+RE: Hosting, yes, but those companies are using a FULL VERSION of the database.. The XE product can be used in applications and such, but I don't believe Oracle released it to allow OTHER companies to offer hosting services with it.. I maybe wrong..+"
    the company mentioned by the op, application outsource uk, is one of the companies listed on the oracle site. so is maxapex, which also uses xe (and whose free account i have used and was pretty impressed with).
    afa licensing, i can only assume it's kosher as it says right there on the oracle site that they are using xe.
    i guess this topic is better under licensing...

  • Deploying APEX application with web host

    Hi guys,
    Whats the process of deploying APEX application with a webHost?
    We got a good deal from a web host with dedicated database, it still being processed.
    Currently we have a domain name hosted elsewhere (non APEX host) . What I am planning to do is, create a subdomain with our existing web host and point it to the IP address of the DB machine the apex host will give us.
    So I am guessing the process will involve:
    1) getting the IP address of the database machine
    2) configure the my existing web hosting setup to create a sub-domain and make it point to the IP address (for example 174.184.223.441)
    Would I need Port number of the machine running Oracle DB with APEX and the local IP address (the one starts with 10.0.0.xxx) etc?
    Would be grateful if someone can share what you did given you already have a domain hosted and need to create a subdomain to make it point to another APEX host.

  • Hosted or cloud ? Apex...

    We are planning to put our application in a hosted or a cloud environment..
    Can any one tell me the cost involved..We do have oracle xe to accomplish this...
    We are looking for cheap cost... We dont need huge expense..And we also have a dba in our team..
    I solution is envica ..Though it is not cloud ..But there are advantages ..They have some plans which states 20 dollars a month..
    Quite ok...
    Dealing with envica or others we will have support , no need for a dba ,etc so we can reduce cost..this manner
    How is it with amazon..Amazon will be cost effective if we have huge data..
    We also use jasper for reports..
    Let us know who has more information about it...
    When we are going to cloud what are the cost consideration to take around. .
    Also looking for cheapest cloud implementation..

    Hi,
    >
    How is it with amazon..Amazon will be cost effective if we have huge data..
    We also use jasper for reports..
    >
    Depends on how huge is the data.
    XE limits of 1 GB RAM and 11 GB tablespace apply on the cloud as well. You will need to setup the Jasper + Integration yourself. You have to manage your EC2 Instance yourself as well. Moreover, you will need at least 3 or 4 GB RAM on the instance to run XE + Jasper.
    Please take a look at this page, if you have not already done so.
    So you need to check if this is big enough for you (certainly not huge data). If you deploy SOne or SE on the EC2 instance the cost starts climbing up, license + bigger EC2 instance.
    Apex Hosting Service providers offer you Oracle 11g SE as well as EE. But the cost goes up significantly when you ask for more Db space. At some point it will become cheaper to have your own co-located server purely on the cost front. Cloud will be cheaper than co-located. There is also the CAPEX vs OPEX aspect for "huge data" as the amounts involved are bigger.
    As a side note, avoid XE on VPS.
