  • Need advice on arbitration or small claims court in illinois

I switched to Verizon in May of 2014 and it has been one mishandling after another. My story is long and filled with many Verizon employee mistakes and website errors (which I blame on incompetent upper management), but this blogpost will be concisely about the most urgent current issue, which is billing.
I have 2 cell phones and 1 tablet, the first two having had 2 ported numbers and the tablet having a newly assigned number.  They are all supposed to belong to one account.
Through no fault of my own, I have been given * 3 * account numbers:  0688.........01, 0288.......01, and 0288.........02.
I have been paying off two of them because, as part of some of my original mishandlings during order and activation, I thought one bill was for the two cells and the other was for the tablet.  In the meantime, I did not know that I was receiving the third bill, with mounting charges for --- well, for whatever, at this point, I don't even know anymore.  So now I'm getting this third bill that's $300 and telling me I'm past due and I'm getting messages that are threatening to cut off my service.
Because all of my problems with Verizon have become a mess of confusion, I have only recently realized that the two bills I was paying were associated with two numbers that Verizon gave me that aren't even attached to a device... i.e. I've been paying bills on "limbo" numbers and not paying the bill for the proper account.
Every time I contact Verizon for assistance, they misguide me or offer a suggestion that not only does not solve my current problem but in fact creates new ones... today, customer service wouldn't even answer a phone call or an online chat.  I've been reading many comments from this user site and hear a lot about how arbitration would not be my best option but I don't know if a judge will hear my case in Illinois if I don't do that step first...
Can anyone offer information to help me... I'd much rather go to court than arbitrate.  It would be to prevent Verizon from shutting down my phone service for money they claim I owe them that I don't, to obligate them to honor promotions to which they are now claiming I am not entitled because they have no record of the transaction, and to possibly credit me on funds that I may have overpaid since all this mess started.  A bonus would be to return all their phones to them and void my contract and just start from scratch with another company.

Arbitration is a fools effort. It is known that companies that pay the fees for arbitration win over 90% of the time. So go to the small claims court or local civil court and summon Verizon for any monies you believe are owed to you. However when you file you must submit copies of factual monies owed. Proof not word of mouth.
You also pay a fee which you can add to the filing as well as the lost wages per hour to go to court. The court clerk will assist you.
However you must send a certified return receipt letter of dispute to the address on your invoice. You must list everything you believe you over paid, you must show all payments as to what you believe is not actually owed but have been paid.
If you have the documentation you stand a great chance of winning your case.
Verizon will call and try and settle. Agree to noting until its in your hand (the money) and sign no waivers in advance since if they renege on the deal you will lose in court.
    Good Luck

  • Has anybody taken bt to a small claims court?

Line went down in the storm on the 27th oct cant tell you how many times I had to call them but it was every day from the 4th nov until the 12th and sometimes morethan once, everyday they said it would be fixed the next day and it wasn't, often they said they would call back and didn't. They got it working on the 13th but it has cracking on the line, told them it wasn't fixed properly and they made a appointment to come back out on the 16th no surprise they didn't turn up. Now they have been and say they cant find anything else wrong and will charge me £129. for coming out!! Oh and have offered me £25 for not being able to use the line and bb for 16 days! Unbelievable I've had so much hassle trying to get this sorted. They behave like this because they can the only way this level of service will improve is if it costs them can anybody advice if they have made a small claim against them and what info I will need to put together?

The company I work for has given me an iPhone, but I haven't been able to download any apps. I've created an apple ID account, it claimed that it had been verified, but everytime I go to download something, it verifies again and claims there's an error. I've tried this now with 3 different emails, and the message reads: go to the iTunes support page. I've emailed Apple, and they were extremely unhelpful. I was given the most vague responses by Bidyut from the iTunes Store Customer service team. I would just like to be able to use this phone since I'm paying for it.

It might be helpful if you told us exactly what the error was... If you don't give us specifics, the best you're going to get is vague responses.

  • Where is fleet management capability and Apple's easy claim to that market share?

Where is fleet management capability and Apple's easy claim to that market share?  Are they any ways to track an iPhone's path (meaning stops and history) or any idea when it will be possible to do so?
Our company desperately wants to jump ship from Blackberry.  There is nothing helpful about their interface capabilities and we are slaves to a painful BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server).  We would pluck down the money for seven new iphones in a heartbeat if they could replicate the functionality of Field Force Manager, which allows us to track the entire path of a remote employee throughout the day.  It is my undersetanding that either the laughable Apple policy on "replicating functionality that we already provide" or their policy on turn-by-turn directions prevents anyone from creating an app which would do this.  I'm guessing that running GPS apps in the background would also prevent this, although recent updates seem to allow apps to run in the background to a certain extent (i.e. Pandora).  It would also be a battery hog, but that is the owners choice.
It would be a flick of the wrist for Apple to incorprate it into iCloud, but apparently they don't want another couple of points of smartphone market share.

    Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with my Mac OS X 10.7.5 mac book air , there are constant pop pups and small windows with ads blinking constantly opening up on my safari in front of everything?? it is constantly interupting me and makes me mistakingly click on it then another new windows open behind the one im using..
I am not too sure if thats a virus or trojan.. I always thought that macs didn't get virus? this looks like one to me… any experts around? please help me fix it with your instructions? really don't know what to do... thanks

Those are not viruses. You have probably installed some malware:
The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using Dr.Web Light from the App Store. It's free, and since it's from the App Store, it won't destabilize the system. If you prefer one of the better known commercial products, then Thomas recommends using Sophos.(Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.) If you already use Sophos, then be aware of this if you are using Mavericks: OS X Mavericks- Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause unexpected restarts
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

After some advice, I am new to Apple and looking to purchase either the MacBook Air 13inch with 256GB and 8GB mem or the MacBook Pro 13inch with retina 256Gb and 8GB mem. I am an assistant principal in a primary school and also studying my masters at university. I don't play computer games and I don't watch movies. I do store photos and videos of my kids and music on iTunes. I also like browsing the net with numerous windows open, check email etc. I am really wanting long battery life as I do a lot of my work on the couch - not close to a PowerPoint. Would the air do the trick or will it soon be outdated as Apple move towards retina display? Both air and pro seem very thin  - almost the same? And not much difference in weight either so both very portable which is also a necessary requirement. Just can't help dreaming about that 12 hour claimed battery life. Any helpful advice/opinions, very much appreciated. Thanks

It's not likely that you'll get 12 hours in reql life. Those benchmarks are set under very strict controlled conditions. Kind of like mileage per gallon claims on cars. If 16GB of ram is an option at all I'd highly recommend you get that. As far as storage 256GB isn't alot, consider storing some things on an external thunderbolt real

  • How can I change a PDF document to have an enlarged text area and smaller margins?

I've just been reading a long discussion initiated by a guy who wanted to recompose a PDF file to print in fewer pages. I'm not asking about that. I'm aware that Acrobat Pro 9 will not recompose the pages of a pdf for you; as someone said, it's not a word processing program. I want to copy a PDF to a new file with an enlarged text area and smaller margins, so I can read it more easily. My eyesight isn't so great.
I'm trying to print a decision of the US Supreme Court, for my study. The problem is that these PDF files of such decisions are composed in 10-point type with generous margins, in folio-size pages smaller than 8 1/2 x 11". When you open PDF files of these decisions, you get extremely wide margins and relatively small type. Essentially, I'd like to re-rasterize the document so it prints on my 8 1/2 x 11" paper in a larger apparent type size, but in the same high resolution as the original. By the way, the decision I'm working on is almost 200 pages long, so I don't want to do this, obviously, in a page by page manner.
I guess I could do this in Photoshop, by blowing pages up and cropping them. Photoshop does a good job of eliminating the jaggies when you do this. But it would seem better to re-rasterize the pages from the PDF source file. So would any reader be kind enough to explain this process to me? (I'm fairly savvy in Photoshop, Illustrator, and computer printer concepts, but a complete newb in Acrobat.)

If you just want this for printing, one thing you can easily do is crop all of the pages to remove the margins. For example, you can rop 2" off the left and right sides, and 1.5" off the top and bottom. Then print using a Page Scaling of "Fit to Printable Area".
To crop in Acrobat 9, select: Document > Crop Pages
be sure to select All for the Page Range.

  • Ok..... I am frustrated with Apple and my Ipod!  :(  Advice please.

    Hi all,
This is a long post so bear with me. I have had an Ipod Mini since June 2005, so it's not that old, but its over a year.... I have noticed lately that the battery was not holding it's charge like it used to. Instead of the normal 8 hours(I believe it's 8? for Mini's), it lasts about 2 to 3 hours!! I always charge it for 5 hours or more until it says "charged". And then after a few hours, I get a message on my screen that says that it needs to be recharged or even worse, it will totally shut off on me. So I signed up for the battery replacement and paid the $70 charge (yes, 70!!)
Now my concern is this. I did not do any troubleshooting prior to placing my battery replacement order, like is advised on the Apple website like charging it fully and letting it play continuous, as I already knew that it was not working well... so why bother. I decided to try it, out of curiousity and I charged it 5 hours, and its playing as I write this on shuffle and so far, its been playing non stop for 4 and half hours! All of a sudden its working well.. so it seems. The battery indicator says its about half way... (although I have read that the indicator can be misleading and inaccurate) but I was wondering this. Should I cancel my request and wait til my Ipod is totally wasted and no longer works or just keep my order.. and get a replacement? I was ready to send it in.
I know logically it does not make sense to not send it in for a new battery as first of all, its over a year old and I have read on these forums that average lifespan of an Ipod batter is about a year and half? So I should just send it in and GET IT OVER WITH, lol as it will soon crash. Here it is in front of me, playing well, going on 5 hours now and still... it is doing well. Can anyone answer why? LOL The only thing I can think of is that when I use my ipod under normal circumstances (changing songs constantly, fast forwarding, the backlight usage, etc), it WILL use more battery power...... than just playing songs on it as I am doing now, without touching or manipulating it. Because I am really surprised that all of a sudden, its working so well.
Has anyone had an Ipod Mini that has lasted them longer than a year and half? I feel like just cancelling my battery replacement order and waiting.......
Any feedback? I dont even know if the order can be cancelled as I did it last Friday. I just spent a half hour with Apple, talked to a rep, finally after being on hold and being disconnected twice! and he said to just keep my order (he did not even know if the order can be cancelled! these people are clueless!) as eventually, I will need a new battery and better now than later, was his suggestion. By the way, I can't believe that most of the people there have no clue as to what they are doing! That is so frustrating... not to mention, being disconnected twice, when one is already on hold for 10 to 15 mins each time!
ughhh... dilemna dileman. Sorry again for this long post. Anyone can offer me advice, I would be so grateful.
    Ipod Mini

    Hi, Thanks for the reply.
I agree.... Apple makes these claims about 18 hour playback times, but people dont realize that that is when its just playing back, as I am doing now.... but I fast forward songs and skip songs like a lunatic and it's no wonder it only lasts about 3 hours now. But I do believe that the battery is losing it's power, so maybe I will just keep the order and not cancel it. I know that in another few months, it will probably not play as good as it's supposed to. I just found a link that shows the playback times for diff. ipod models:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/ipod/iPod_mini.html
and I found out mine is a 2nd generation Mini.... so they say 18 hour playback time. MIne now is no where near that. LOL More like 5 hours at least... and that is without using under normal conditions. So I will just keep my order for now.
One question.... does anyone know if they will send me the same one, just with a new battery? Or a totally different Ipod Mini? and if they do send me a new Ipod mini, will it be refurbished? Anyone have an problems with a refurbished Ipod replacement so far?
    Thanks all.

trying to update apple tv (small black box).  how do i do update?  can't find system settings. i see system preferences no mac pro.  does apple tv need to be plugged into hdtv for the update or PC.  If PC, how?

You have to do it on the Apple TV itself while it's plugged into a TV so that you can see its screen.
    I quote
How to update software on your Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation)
Learn how to update the software on your Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation). It's always a good idea to have the latest software on your Apple TV.
    Update your software
Select Settings > General > Update Software. Apple TV checks for an available update; if one is available, a download message should appear.
Click Download and Install to start the download process.
Do not disconnect your Apple TV during the update process. The Apple TV status light may flash slowly during the update and restart process. This is expected behavior.

  • What do you have to take to the apple store to claim warranty

what documents do you have to take to the apple store to claim warranty?

You should not need any kind of documentation to prove your warranty. If you purchased your mac less than a year ago, you are still covered under the minimum warranty which covers 90 days of telephone support, and 12 months of hands on support. (Its on you to take it to the Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider for the free support.)
If you purchased your mac without the AppleCare Protection Plan, and less than a year ago - you still have the option to purchase the APP here http://www.apple.com/support/products/
If you purchased your mac with the APP, but have not yet registered it, you can do so here http://www.apple.com/support/applecare/register/
Additionally, if you purchased your mac without the APP, and your minimum 1 year warranty has expired, you can then Pay Per Incident, and here is the pricing list for that http://www.apple.com/support/products/pay-per-incident.html.

  • Apple says small number of Apple TVs have WiFi issues, opens replacement program

I have an AppleTV 3rd generation with issues of connectivity when I use the Radio. Every 10 or 15 minutes disconnects from showing an error on the screen, I research on the internet and apparently there is a program to replace some devices due a known malfuncion with the WiFi.
I always blamed to my cheap router and the poor internet connection I had in my former country Argentina. Now i moved to Chile and i have a nice Cisco/Linksys router and the issue persists.
Please check the links below about the replacement program:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2034731/report-apple-replacing-some-third-gen-ap ple-tv-units-with-wi-fi-issues.html
    http://9to5mac.com/2013/04/15/apple-says-small-number-of-apple-tvs-have-wifi-iss ues-opens-replacement-program/
I would like to know if this program exists and also if my device is under this program.
The serial number of my AppleTV is C0*****RHN.
    <Edited by host>

That program was from over a year ago, it is no longer running. It still required proper troubleshooting to occur. It wouldn't have to do with an internet connection as this an issue with the local/wifi network, a cheap router will impact performance but there are other factors.
Using ethernet will help to see if there's a wifi issue. Get a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar, look for signal strength and noise.
If your network looks ok then I would take to Apple for testing, if it is found to be defective then they are usually good about replacement.

  • Onscreen Keyboard gets smaller and smaller

    Dear Reader.
Because of impairment I heavily depend on onscreen keyboard. But strange things happen with lion: the onscreen keyboard got smaller and smaller. Now it is this tiny, that I even don't have access to the + button to restore the size. Only close and minimize buttons are visible due to small width. Closing and even restarting does not help at all. I don't see any chance to reset to default size.
Please help, if you know about,
I googled very much and didn't find help
    Thanks

If you can't drag the edge then I think deleting the plist might be the next thing to try.
Open a finder window and on the menubar select Finder > Go > hold the option key down to expose Library > click Library.
In the Finder windows for Library go to the Preferences folder and find com.apple.KeyboardViewer.plist and either drag it to the desktop or delete it.
You might have to logoff/logon.  The system will create a new plist of the default size.
