Apple Recommended HP airprint printers B110 and B210

This discussion concerns the Apple recommended airprint HPprinters. Others may wish to help determine whether this problem occurs with other routers.
System imac OSX10.6.8 & Macbook OSX10.6.8, ISP talktalk.net, router ISP supplied D-Link DSL-2740R
Our old HP printer took a dislike to red ink and things turned green on photographic prints- literally green elephants! Having a couple of IOS devices it seemed logical to replace it with an airprint capable printer(http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/airprint.html)and so we purchased a wireless HP photosmart all-in-one B110a printer which in the UK was on offer. This connected to our LAN without difficulty and was accepted by the system preferences printer add on. For a cheap printer it was not too bad in printing photographs, but there was a problem.
After turning the printer on it would be found by the printdriver for about one minute then it would go “offline”. Anything in the print queue would print during the favoured minute but one minute after the last print it would go offline.
The problem is present in several discussion groups online.Remedies obviously follow the line of ensuring all software is up to date. This I had done by down load from Apple, Hewlett Packard and also hitting the update button on the printer it self. As others had discovered this made no difference. HP’s customer service, which in the UK costs 5p per minute even when you are asking about a brand new printer, insisted that the printer was faulty so we exchanged it for another one. Same problem though the new B110a printer was significantly better at photograph printing! So we returned the second printer and looked elsewhere.
The next cheapest printer in Apple's recommended list is the HP Photosmart Plus e-AiO (B210a) – note I think the numbers differ in different countries. This cost more than twice the previous printer but after connection exhibited the same problem even after ensuring all software was up to date. Digging through internet discussion sites suggested various problems might exist including a failure of Bonjour or that various ports might be blocked etc.
A program called Bonjour Browser (www.tildesoft.com/) reveals bonjour clients on a LAN. The B210 printer was clearly visible so bonjour appears to be working. In addition the printer has an on board web page for programming the printer. This was available even when the print driver was unable to access the printer and stated “offline”.
System preference print page records the status of theprinter and that states printer is busy. It seems likely that about one minute after turning the printers on they are returning a busy signal to the print driver.
I installed an old b/g Netgear router on the system and with that the B210 printer does all that it says on the box even working without problems with iphone and ipad airprint.
The internet also has many reports of similar difficulties with the UK BT supplied router. It appears that some otherwise perfectly good routers have compatibility issues with HP driver software.

We're just users here, so none of us would be able to answer your question in any way. Sorry.
But, there are 3rd party Apps you can buy in the App Store, that will certainly permit printing to a wireless printer, without having to go through your home computer. Printopia and Print Central are two you could buy......

Does anyone know (or is it written anywhere) just how many is 'serveral'? Is it decided on the fly? Or does it depend on the phase of the moon?

Sounds like a really good system but it seems that a bit more thought should have gone into it, no? Or at least the explanation could be clearer.

I sort of agree with this new "Helpie-ette" deal. I wonder why while at this portion of the UX they didn't address the ongoing issue of the "irrevocable nature " of the OP awards of the traditional Green Stamp and Gold Star - I have made the mistake (once) but I see the silliest things marked Solved frequently. THAT is bad for business in that it gives false visual info and false statistical results.
We'll see... BTW, the [People] TAB itself is the only new thing (the CONTROL in the TAB bar) - the URL has always been alive and well if one knew to add " /people "

I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past? Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Very glad you added that bit of information because I see different problems similar to this. I want to share with them what you did and hopefully you not only fixed your specific problem but you can lend some more advice to others with problems like this. Thanks!

You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new windows installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup! (Windows tip). For a Mac use Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner.

Why is the sound of my new ipad cutting out intermittently and what does Apple recommend to solve the problem in lieu of any updates? All of a sudden without changing any settings, the audio on my NEW ipad cuts in and out on applications/ games, keypad noise and lock sounds. The rocker button only seems to work while the sound is intermittently being heard before, after a few seconds of noise not doing anything when sound goes off.
This is highly frustrating as I've noticed others posting about such issues as far back as April. Anybody had the same thing happen to them? Is this likely software (ios6) or hardware issue? What are the solutions Apple???

Apple has no physical stores of their own in Dubai, so unless you mean that you purchased from the online Apple Store for the UAE, you purchased from a dealer, who may or may not have been authorized. You can check the expiration date of the warranty on your iPad yourself by entering in the serial number here:

If it does indeed show the warranty has expired, then what you need to do from here will depend on who you purchased the iPad from and when you really did purchase it. Perhaps you actually purchased it in August and are just misremembering? Check your receipt. If you confirm that you did purchase within the last calendar year, tell us exactly where you got it and we can probably offer advice.

What should I do?

The first thing you should do is re-write your post to make it a bit more understandable. I got you have an Epson printer connected to your PC, however after that your post doesn't make any sense. Are you attempting to print from your iMac, if so then you need to download and install Bonjour for Windows on your Windows machine. Then set Windows so it has printer sharing turned on and then on the iMac simply follow Apple's instructions for adding a printer.

Appreciate the suggestion and tried it, but still, no joy. I even had another iPhone brought into the network and it found the printer, no problem. It's just this one iPhone 4s. Sounds like a trip to the Genius Bar for me!

The MI424WR does not have a bridging option, and neither Verizon nor Actiontec support attempting to bridge it.
The desire to bridge the MI424WR is based on a misunderstanding that it is a modem as well as a router. Actiontec does produce DSL Gateways that have a Transparent-Bridging option, which bypasses or disables the router function and allows the Gateway to act simply as a DSL modem, when it is enabled. Many consumers do not realize that with FiOS, the ONT (typically outside the home) is the device that handles changing the FiOS signal from Fiber to either Ethernet or Coax, and that the Router is just a Router, and if it was bridged or bypassed, it would be a device without a function. For most Verizon FiOS customers their service would completely stop if the MI424WR was bridged, because the Video on Demand service is dependent on it to work.
If your ONT is connected to the Actiontec MI424WR router via Coax, the MI424WR is required due to the Coax connection. But if the ONT is connected to the MI424WR via Ethernet, then in most cases some other router can be substituted for the MI424WR, and it can be removed."
So it looks like I will be calling Verizon support to see about getting the Ethernet connection installed and getting another modem...

I checked the iOS AirPrint 101 website first before I bought my brother printer model to make sure that AirPrint is available but it does not work. Of course the brother printer salesman said that my model can do ipad2 AirPrint just to sell the unit. So I made sure that it is possible first so I went to check it in iOS AirPrint website and when I saw the model in the list, I bought the brother printer immediately. Why?

You're sure that you set the printer up correctly?
Did you try restarting the printer and the iPad?
Have you looked for a firmware update for the printer on the Brother website?
Does the printer work with your computer - assuming that you have a computer that is?

i have read many articles for this problem but there is no solution, some say restart the router, others say uncheck the option to sync iphone over wi-fi, others suggest not hitting the "done" button after setting up homeshare on itunes, NONE of them work. The HP PhotoSmart 5514 is on Apple's list of AirPrint printers, so it should work. <iOS: AirPrint 101>
One problem might be that your WiFi router does not correctly handle Bonjour data required by AirPrint. Contact the router's manufacturer to see if there is a change to its setup or a firmware update that will solve the problem.
I had a printing problem several months ago, where the WiFi had jumped to a neighbor's WiFi that happened to have the same name. There are a LOT of WiFi routers out there named "Linksys"!
