  • Apple + Tab between programs not working properly

I've never had a problem with tabbing between programs until the past week. Specifically, it's tabbing from any program back to Firefox. I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on an iBook G4 and Firefox version 2.0.0.14. Basically, what is happening when I tab to Firefox is that Firefox becomes the active program (the program appears in the top bar) but the browser window doesn't show up. The only way I can get the window to show up is to open a new browser window followed by closing it (or by pressing F9 and selecting the window manually), then the original browser window becomes the active one. Has anyone ran into a similar problem? Or more importantly, does anyone have a solution?

I can confirm it IS NOT the remote. We have 4 ATV G2 here and all the remotes work fine for three of the boxes. One box, even after factory reset, will not allow any of the remotes to scroll/select up direction in menus. Again- multiple remotes that work fine for other ATV boxes will not work in the up direction on a single ATV. Definitely a problem after latest update on at least some of the hardware!

  • Can I use Apple Volume Purchasing Codes with Apple Profile Manager?

I am using Apple Profile Manager (on OS X 10.8) to manage some iOS devices.  I would like to be able to push apps to users using Profile Manager, however, I cannot seem to find a way to import an Apple Volume Purchasing Program redemption code spreadsheet.  Basically, I am looking for a way to deploy apps to the devices without the users having to purchase them using their own Apple ID's.  I've done some research, and I have determined that this funcationality seems to be included in Apple Configurator.  I am wondering if I can do the same thing in Profile Manager.  I would rather not have to change my MDM solution, if at all possible.  Thanks in advance, I appreciate it.

    Hey JTShelatz,
just push you Apps with Profileservice. But just the amount of purchased licences .
Thats how I understood Apples VPP deployment strategy.

Depending where you are, there can be slow downs on the servers.
You just have to keep trying. I tried 3 times to get the Mavericks upfrade and eventually had to go to the Apple Store.
Where they gave me a copy of the previous version!

I have a iphone 5 and I can login with my apple id to purchase music. However, when I try to login into icloud using the very same username and password that I use in the apple store it does not work to enter icloud, so what what gives???

I could do that, however when I select the icloud button (or whatever the heck it is) I am asked to enter the apple id and password. So if you are suppose to create another one for icloud you'd think it would give you the option at this point which would be logical.

We wouldn't know that answer.  You'll know when you take in to the Apple store to have it looked at.

  • My Bose SIE2i volume control does not work. (pause/play does work). This is the secone set - the apple store in Sydney replaced the firsat set that had the same problem. It was working OK and has stopped.

My Bose SIE2i volume control does not work. (pause/play does work). This is the second set - the apple store in Sydney replaced the first set that had the same problem. It was working OK and has stopped.

Thanks again V.K. I did check the layout, and it was listed as alphabet when I inputted the password. So that doesn't seems to the the issue.
Just finished a truly mystifying experiment, but I put in a shorter password in the way mentioned earlier and it worked. I then systematically kept increasing the characters of that password and it seems that if the password starts to exceed about 16, it stops recognizing it. I am fairly sure it is not the password itself since it never gives an error when typing in the verification password. So unless I systematically make the exact mistake twice at the setup screen, and then don't or make a different mistake every time at the login screen, I don't think its my typing skill.
So problem solved for now, but I am still a bit worried. Maybe I should completely reinstall and use a shorter password.
Is there supposed to be a length limit?

  • With the Volume Purchase Program, what happens if a device needs to be reprovisioned?

In the event that an end user leaves the company and turns in their iPad, we want to be able to give that iPad to another end user. Will we need to buy another code? Or can we have that app downloaded to the same device with the IMEI or Serial Number (or any other static info for that matter)?
If not, what is the solution to this? I'm certain we are not the only company facing this issue. If we have corporate owned iPads which we deploy Applications to using the Volume Purchase Program (along with an MDM solution), how can we use these codes for more than one user? Or are we simply forced to purchase code after code for any new user using the same iPad?
    Thank You

You might have problems if you try use:
    Lion Internet Recovery
If you happen to encounter a situation in which you cannot start from the Recovery HD, such as your hard drive stopped responding or you installed a new hard drive without Mac OS X installed, new Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion automatically use the Lion Internet Recovery feature if the Recovery HD (Command-R method above) doesn't work. Lion Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's Servers. The system runs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to ensure there are no hardware issues.
Lion Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, enter the WPA passphrase. Next, Lion Internet Recovery will download and start from a Recovery HD image. From there, you are offered all the same utilities and functions described above.
I think that check user acounts before allowing a download.

  • Volume Purchasing Program -- how to use in practice?

I have been pointed in the direction of the Volume Purchasing Program for Business described at http://www.apple.com/business/vpp/ .  I'm kind of trying to wrap my brain around this -- so far my "solution" to dealing with the AppStore is to find some work-around to the AppStore when there is software or a software update that an employee needs for his/her work computer.  (The most common work around being convincing the colleague that they can live without the software!)
On the VPP webpage it refers to this document (http://images.apple.com/business/docs/VPP_Business_Guide_US_6_4_2012.pdf), which purports to show Apple's "solution" to businesses buying software for business use.  If I understand the concept correctly, we will have one email address, with one account, for all of the computers in the business.  So I set up an email account, example [email protected], attach it to the VPP as the AppleID, and all the bills go to there.  Suppose I need to buy seven copies of Keynote for my seven Sales Department laptops.  I go and make the purchase, which generates a single charge of $139.93 ($19.99 times seven) for all of the purchases.  And I get a code which can be used seven times to install the software on the seven computers.  Ok, so far so good.
Then it gets a little vague.  The documentation describes four ways to install the software.  First way:
Email the redemption URL directly to users. Users simply click the URL, either from their mobile device or from a Mac or PC. iTunes opens the app page in the App Store. The redemption code is automatically entered, enabling users to immediately download the app after authenticating with their Apple ID.
Now we come to a full stop with cartoon special effects.  WHOSE Apple ID?!?!?  These are company-owned computers running company-owned software for business purposes.  Employees come and go.  Employees change jobs.  Jobs functions get reorganized.  Hardware and software get re-deployed to follow along with operational necessities.  Suppose the seven sales reps get new computers, and four of their old laptops go to delivery drivers and the other three get put on a shelf to canibalize for parts -- the seven copies of Keynote have to end up on the new computers, and need to be OFF of the old computers.  Suppose Larry, Curley and Moe are in a department that gets reorganized.  Larry leaves, and Curley takes over Larry's spreadsheets while Moe takes over Larry's presentations.  So Curley needs Larry's copy of Numbers moved to his computer while Moe needs Larry's Keynote.  How does that work?  Does Curley's machine end up with needing Larry's Apple ID to update Numbers and Curley's Apple ID to update Pages, with Moe's machine needing Larry's Apple ID to update Keynote and Moe's Apple ID to update Pages?
There are 3 other methods to distribute software listed in the doc.  #2:
Post the redemption codes and URLs to an internal website, such as a company intranet page. Your business can also create websites to manage the distribution of redemption codes and URLs. Notify your users that the app is available, then direct them to an internal website hosted on your company intranet to initiate the download. You can also build an internal app catalog that provides a web-based portal for employees to install apps directly from their device.
This one doesn't mention Apple IDs for installation, but I'm suspicious that it will want an individual Apple ID per device, too, just like the email distribution.  The wording "their device" is a little ominous...
    Next method:
Use a third-party Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution to centrally manage codes. Many third-party MDM solutions provide tools for IT administrators to upload the spreadsheets into a management console. These solutions help distribute codes to authorized users and keep track of how many devices have redeemed the codes provided. Check with your preferred MDM partner to see if these features are supported. To learn more about Mobile Device Management solutions for iOS visit www.apple.com/iphone/business/integration/mdm.
Anybody know of a third-party solution that manages business software on business devices?
    Last Method:
Use Apple Configurator to install apps on new or supervised devices. Apple Configurator on a Mac makes it easy to mass configure and deploy devices that are centrally controlled. Redemption code spreadsheets acquired through the Volume Purchase Program can be imported by Apple Configurator, tracking the number of apps installed on each device. To update deployed apps using Apple Configurator, you must reconnect to the same Mac from which the apps were installed. Learn more at itunes.apple.com/us/app/apple-configurator.
Looking at the documentation (and the two scathing reviews!) this doesn't really work very well, AND it can only push software to iOS devices, where I need to mostly install on my 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 machines.  And it specifically mentions that each piece of software creates a one-to-one relationship between the managing computer and the managed device.  Suppose my boss installs Keynote on machines 1 & 2, and I install it on 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7.  Then he install Pages on machine 1, 4, 6, & 7 and I install Pages on 2, 3, & 5.  The seven machines have 4 different permutations of who installed what.  That's with only seven machines, two admins, and two pieces of software -- imagine 70 machines and 20 pieces of software!!!
Does anybody know how to make App Store software purchases work in a business that has business operational, security, and licensing issues?

Looking at the examples posted in the documents, there are examples of qty 12 and qty 10, and no mention of minimum purchases.  There also appears to be no price break for apps purchased through the program.  So this is different from the 20+ program where you are getting volume discounts.  Clearly it's more valuable for the 20-and-over market -- can you imagine creating and managing 500 accounts with 500 separate bills when you buy 500 copies of a 99-cent app?  Aack!
The default way that the App Store is set up is totally oriented to individual private purchasers.  The Apple ID is permanently linked to the app purchased, and you must know the username and password of the Apple ID that installed the app in order to update that app on that device.  Oh, and you can't just use one Apple ID and password for every machine in your group.
I'm thinking of creating a naming scheme for Apple ID's -- one for each machine.  I'll create an email address for each machine and then that becomes the Apple ID for that machine's App Store purchases [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc.  Give them all the same password.  Then all I have to worry about is if I need to shift around software and recombine them so that I end up with multiple Apple IDs on single machines...

  • Are schools required to use the Volume Purchase Program?

    Hello,
I am involved in providing a brand new school with iPads for students. The volume purchasing program lets businesses and schools download apps in bulk. However, one must pay for every app for every app one each device (even with bulk discount). However, I don't see why I can't set up all the school's iPads under one Apple ID without the Volume Purchasing Program. Is there anything that prohibits me from doing this? Going about it the second way saves a lot of money for the small school we are building.
    Thanks!

  • Can I use volume purchase program for inApp purchase?

I want to offer an upgrade for my app which will be free? I also support some educational institutes which buy apps with volume purchase program. I need to know if it is possible to do a bulk in app purchase using Volume purchase program.

In-app purchases are not currently available through the VPP. Whether Apple will ever come up with a system to allow VPP in-app purchases I can't guess. You may want to consider making a "premium" version of your app that includes what would normally be an in-app purchase and then make that version available via the VPP.

  • HT5188 Can in-app purchases be made using the volume purchase program?

Can in-app purchases be made using the volume purchase program? I'm an authorized facilitator and able to redeem using VPP in iTunes but want several in-app purchases that are not available outside of the app. Is this possible for the program manager to allow?

    Found an answer!
At http://www.apple.com/education/volume-purchase-program/faq.html, I found the following:
Are all apps in the App Store eligible to be purchased in the Volume Purchase Program Education Store?
All paid iOS apps are available through the Volume Purchase Program. This does not include in-app purchases.
