Approach for user to view documents of other geo than he is part of

Hi All,
In our KM landscape, every document is assigned to some geograhy for example North America.
Every user account has attribute Geography which may have one or multiple values.
Our requirement is :
for example Once the user belonging to North America geography logs in to portal, he will be able to see all docs which belong to North America.
He should be given an option to select Latin America(through custom development ) and once he selects other geo, the documents belonging to that geo should be shown..
This is technically possible
My question is what are the eligent and possible approaches?

Hi,
For this purpose, you can also use the KM Search Iview and have different search results depending on different user geograpies. Here you can also allow user to select different geograpies of his choice and Iview will show respective results.

You can also create a custom component, which will use KM Indexmanagement APIs for searching with TREX, to show different documents depending on user geo choice.

Edit: I should add we tested and indeed it's with all pdfs not just ones coming through engagement.

This problem was solved; the above note is just an aid for users experiencing similar problems.

SharePoint 2013 allows downloaded even for users with "view only" permissions

I have a new on premises SharePoint 2013 server and assigned a single user "view only" rights to a document library. In the "permission levels" window, this permission is described as "Can view pages, list items,
and documents. Document types with server-side file handlers can be viewed in the browser but not downloaded."
Once I gave the user that permission, I noticed he was able to view documents in the library but the "but not downloaded" part does not seem to be working. The user can still download documents to his local desktop and SharePoint does not prevent
it. The "download a copy" option appears and the user can use it.
My goal is to make all documents in this library such that users can only view them in the browser and not download a local copy. How I do that?

Not entirely positive :-)
However, you have no server-side handlers in place today without WAC installed, so that portion of the View Only permission wouldn't be applicable.
Note that WAC must be installed on its own server and if your SharePoint server is extranet or public facing, it needs to have a valid, public SSL certificate. Also, WAC should always be run over SSL regardless if it is public facing or not as the token
sent between the SharePoint server and WAC is the same as having a username and password for the user making the request.

Configure Drop off library with no permission for users on target document libraries

I have configured content organizer feature and created 3 rules with 3 target document libraries.
Users have only permission on drop off document library.
When they upload, document is moved to target doc lib, but pop-ups message saying you do not have access to view.
Is there a way to stop that message from showing?
We do not want to give permission for users on target libraries.

As per my knowledge, you cannot supress this message
However, you can create a redirection script on Upload.aspx page which will redirect users to home page once document uploaded.

How can I allow Contribute Users to save documents somewhere other than "docs"?

Our website was rebuilt by an outside company, who took my file structure and dumped it into the new site (I use Dreamweaver and our staff uses Contribute for their little niche of the web). We have a large site with multiple folders within the site. Those folders have several folders below them to sub-divide the tons of info we have to keep straight. However when I set up the parameters for the Contribute users, I only seemed to have one option to save documents (the "docs" folder).
I need for Contribute users to be able to save documents/files deeper in the file structure. How can I do that?

The answer depends on how "good" your Contribute users actually are. By default, Contribute always places documents in the same folder as the page in a "documents" folder. I see two potential options: (1) the user(s) needs to go to the where the document needs to live and place the link at that level or (2) you can show your user the "Publish File From My Computer" (under file, in the third section) which would allow them to place the document in the correct location and then link to it from whatever page is appropriate. Personally, that would be a last choice.

How to restrict payroll users from viewing IT0002 or other personnel data?

We need to device a authorization for payroll users in such a way, that they are allowed to access and edit IT 0014, IT0015, IT0580 to IT591 but they are not even allowed to view infotype IT0000 to IT0007.
They will still be allowed to do payroll processing of all employees.
Problem is - if we disable PA20 to PA40 transaction for these users, then they will not be able edit IT 14, 15 etc and vice-versa.
Please advice how can we do this.

Am just wondering like this -
for a User who will update IT8 etc infotypes and run payroll for all employees:
Allow infotype access to all Infotypes via P_ORGIN/P_ORGINCON and then
exclude Infotype access to IT0000 to IT0007 via P_ORGIN/P_ORGINCON
Does Payroll run after the above if executed by this employee? because in my view the user has access to IT08 and other payroll related infotypes and hence should run (but I think IT0, IT1 &2 might also be required for for various reasons for payroll to run - not sure);
Or probably you might need to think of executing/triggering the Payroll process via Batch process (thru a batch user Id which has access to all)...because it wont be a best practice to have manually initiate the Payroll process...

Drop down list properties availble for user in card / document

The need is to define some custom properties for documents in the document directory and to let the user fill up the properties using a drop down list (using the edit option for the card)For example we wuold like to add a properties name departmentwith the following values related to it : Department A , Department B ... so the user should be able to choose from a list. Plumtree offers in the main property setting to define a drop down type for the property and to assign values to it, but from our understanding/findings - these are not accessible to the user but only for admin purposes (defining properties to document types ).Is our understanding correct ?Perhaps someone has already addressed this issue and developed some connection between the drop down values and the edit card page to make the values available to the user ?

Have you check that user permission on both lists? Also ask him to try in different browser or in different machine.

Adding Navigation Buttons for Users of PDF Documents

The default for Acrobat Reader (and even the Pro version)
seems to leave the Forward and Back navigation buttons OFF the
Acrobat Reader tool bar. You have to deliberately go into the Tools
- Customize Tools menu and turn on these two buttons in order for
them to appear in the tool bar. This creates problems for readers
of your PDF documents if the readers of your documents aren't very
computer savy. If you have links in your PDF document so readers
can navigate around, not having the Forward and Back buttons up on
the tool bar as a default makes these links almost useless. The
reader has to know how to turn these two buttons on and some
readers may not have a clue how to do that.
My question: Is there a way to put 2 navigation buttons on a
reader's toolbar AUTOMATICALLY when they open your document--ie,
something embedded in the PDF doc that automatically turns these
buttons on for the reader so they don't have to do it
themselves?

Keyboard shortcut for full page view (and many others) removed

After updating Acrobat from version 8 to 9 I had to learn that a lot of keyboard shortcuts were removed from Acrobat and there's no way to customize then. I was using all shortcuts for zooming, in particular the nearly Adobe-wide CTRL-0 to see a full page. This just does not work anymore -- what's the reason?
Is there any other way we can configure shortcuts? For me it is not acceptable to use the mouse for this.

[BO XI 3.0] view document instances count is wrong

If a user does not have the "View document instances" right and there are schedules set up for a particular report to go to other users then the count showing in InfoView is not zero, it counts all the recurring and successful instances even though that user cannot see them!
I can't see this mentioned in fixed issues manuals for FP1, FP2 or FP3, and I can't find a fixed issues manual for BO XI 3.1
What we want to happen is when a report is scheduled back to default destination ( i.e. public folders ) then we give the users the "View document instances" right and then the instances count would alert them to click the "view latest instance" option rather than just double clicking as they used to do in V5.1.9, but given that it counts other users schedules as well then that does not seem to be much use to alert users
I know there is a global option to "open latest instance" but that fails because if there is not a latest instance then it does nothing when you double click
anybody got any ideas about this?

Remove encryption for users?

Hi,
Is it possible to remove the possibility for users to encrypt documents, both using certificates and password? I am a aware that a combination of removing DigSig.api and PKKlite.api, and setting FIPSMode will do the job. But is it a better way of achieving this?

I removed the beforementioned plug-ins, but unfortunately this interefered with other critical Acrobat plug-ins. I created a pdf with buttons and actions, saved the document and closed Acrobat. When tried to open the document with Acrobat Pro the program would crash. After I reinstalled the plug-ins this behaviour stopped. Do I really have to sacrifice program functionality and reliability to keep my users from encrypting documents?

The POP server rejected the password for user

Hi Im new to this forum but need help! I can usually fix most things on my mac but the last 2 weeks mail will not recieve any incoming messages as is just says "The POP server “mailin.macmail.com” rejected the password for user “****”
I have looked at other postings and tried keychain etc but nothing will work. This happens with 2 accounts one from macmail and one from NTL (my ISP) I can send mail fine (no password) and can go on to webmail and get my messeages fine on both accounts.
Does anyone have an answer for this?

Sorry I can't be of help, I know of others with this problem. In my case I have two accounts that don't work in Mail whilst the other accounts do. I suspect it may be a bug as I've been looking for a solution for sometime. My current solution is to collect the mail on those accounts with an XP netbook which is probably not very helpful!
I have also tried the Keychain repair and at least for a short while it looked as if it had fixed it.
Any ideas anybody before I go through the hassle of reinstalling everything?

LVFontTypeDef.ctl "Size" has other datatype than size of property size

Hi,
the Datatype of the property size of an control (for example caption --> size) has an other datatype than the size in the used LVFontTypeDef.ctl.
Here we have a difference between u16 --> datatype of size of LVFontTypeDef.ctl and the property size of caption or label or anything else --> u32
Whats the correct one? Hope its u16.

Does it matter? Whether it is a U16 or a U32, the largest possible number is still way larger than any reasonable font size you'll ever use.
From where did you get the context help that shows font size as a U32?
Okay, I see where the other Font.Size came from. It seems like the Font Size is sized as a U16 when it is a part of the Caption.Font cluster, but becomes a U32 when it is Caption.Font.Size as a property node.
It seems like a very inconsistent definition of that property and probably should be flagged for investigation by NI.

What is the minimum permission level that allows users to view draft documents, other peoples' draft documents?
Normally a person creates a draft document and when they are ready they publish it and the Approver approves it. However, what if a power user needs to be able to see all draft documents. Not just their own but other peoples'. What is the minimum permission
level that allows then to do this?

here I have two WFS servers and they configured with load balancing in F5 .
when I enable both servers in F5 I receive this error messages in 2nd server,

Do you have antiVirus installed on the sharepoint servers?
These folders may have to be excluded from antivirus scanning when you use file-level antivirus software in SharePoint. If these folders are not excluded, you may see unexpected behavior. For example, you may receive "access denied" error messages when files
are uploaded.
Please follow this KB and exclude the folders from Scanning.
