  • Free Phone was not Free and no Customer Service

Why was I Charge a $30.00 upgrade fee when I received my new Commando 4G LTE phone.  The ad said it was free?  $30.00 ain't free!  I saw nothing in the add that said I was going to pay an extra $30.00.  I did buy an accessory package for $49.99, but my bill came to $79.99 plus tax, I believe this is false advertising.  When I called the number "For questions on your billing", I was on hold for 30 minutes and hung up, as I got tired of waiting.

Paying $30.00 for a free phone IS NOT FREE!  I don't care what you call it, it ain't free!
I've been with Verizon since they took over this area's Alltel customers and have never been charged for a new phone.  You're not going to build a very loyal base when you keep adding fees and raising cost ,  you can bet I'll be looking at other cell phone services in the future.  I just had my WiFi go from $10.00 to $15.00 a GB and now this.  I guess keeping your old customers isn't important anymore.

  • $350 free phone?

A Free Phone that I am paying $350 for - What kind of business practice is that? Customer Service manager that promises problem is fixed and then new manager refuses to honor agreement? Oh and by the way your 30 day change period has lapsed. Hours on the hold? Disreputable Verizon authorized dealer?  Read on...
My daughter’s cell phone (removed) screen cracked in March and she needed a new phone. We went to the Verizon store in Rockville and looked at several new phones. The salesperson told us she could upgrade immediately with an Edge agreement, but I wasn’t willing to pay for something that would be free on her upgrade date. Her upgrade wasn’t until June 25th, so she patiently waited and counted down the days until her upgrade date.
On June 25th, I took off the day from work to run errands and take her to get her new phone. We had planned to go to the Verizon store on Rockville Pike but we were in Wheaton. She googled verizon locations and it identified a store 5 minutes away. I was surprised as I didn’t remember that location, but as we pulled up, there was the large Verizon name on the store front. She looked at several phones and opted for the new version of her phone LUCID 3, which I confirmed with the sales rep was included as a free upgrade. We purchased a screen protector, signed the paperwork and left the store.
About a month later, we received our monthly verizon bill. It was more than the usual amount so I looked at the details. I was shocked to see Edge agreement charge for $17.49. It was a Saturday, so I called Customer Service immediately, since I don’t have time to call during the week. The agent informed me I had signed up for the Edge agreement and would have to return the phone to the store to cancel the agreement. I said that this was not acceptable as I never signed up for the agreement. She then informed the store was Cellular Connections, not Verizon. I asked to speak to a supervisor to see if there was another option, but was put on indefinite hold. Over 1 hour later, the agent picked up the phone to see if I was still on, I told her I could no longer hold and hung up.
The following Monday, I called Customer Service again. I told the agent how unhappy I was with the service I received on Saturday and how Cellular Connections had somehow bamboozled us into an Edge agreement, all the while telling us we were getting her free upgrade. The agent confirmed that the Lucid 3 my daughter got should have been free on June 25th and that it didn’t make sense for us to sign up for an Edge payment plan of over $300 for a free phone. I explained that between my working and my daughter taking summer classes it was very difficult to back to the store. She spoke with her manager and after 15 minutes said they had figured out a way to cancel the plan. The conversation took over an hour of time, but I was relieved to finally speak to someone who got it. She and her manager completed the necessary forms and said I would see the change on my next bill.
So imagine my anger when I opened this month’s bill and not only was there not a credit, but another charge for the Edge agreement. I called Customer Service and spoke with Amy. I told her I was very upset to be making this call as I had already spent 3 hours of time on this issue. I asked her to read the call notes and if the agent I had spoke with previously could call me back. She said that wasn’t possible but there was no need as I only had 30 days to cancel the Edge agreement and that time had expired. I told her that the agent had thought fixed the problem so maybe she could help me. Amy rudely told me, “Obviously she didn’t” as you are still on the Edge agreement.
I asked to speak with a manager and she told me she was a manager. I asked to speak to her supervisor but she wouldn’t transfer me. After about 30 minutes of getting nowhere, I hung up, very upset.
We have 6 cellular phones on 2 Verizon Wireless accounts and I am very seriously considering taking our business elsewhere. We have been with Verizon for over 20 years and never been treated so badly.
Cellular Connections represents itself as a Verizon store, but they are just a licensed dealer. The sales rep. sold me a phone for over $300 that should have been free.
Customer Service was unwilling to help solve this problem. Furthermore, the call notes reflect that the 2nd agent cancelled the Edge agreement and attempted to refund the charges. The 3rd agent/manager (Amy) very rudely said Verizon is unwilling to honor what the previous manager promised.

I am so fed up of reading quotes like....
sprmankalel     Aug 16, 2014 11:43 PM    (in response to afreibaum)
Another case of not reading what you're signing and then it's someone else's fault.
sprmankalel could cut and paste this quote into almost all his comments.
The point here is the Verizon Authorised Reps. making statements that are false.
Why do it? Just state the fact that the customer is getting nothing and you should have read your contract......

".....Just like I believed the customer service rep ......If you state something as a rep of Verizon, we believe you and rely on the information. When I spoke to the customer service rep who had figured out how to cancel the agreement and told me it had been removed from my account, I believed her too. ....."
Even if a contract was signed an oral agreement later should be legal.
If you state something as a rep of Verizon, we believe you and rely on the information.

  • Using hands free phone thru mp3 connection?

i have been currently using my curve 8330 in conjunction with a parrot bluetooth system for hands free phone. worked great..  unfortunately last week driver ran a red light and totaled my 05 honda element.  just bought a 2008 Ford Escape XLT.  does not have the microsoft sync system but does have an mp3 input jack.  i know my blackberry will work as an mp3 player but can i use the phone funtions such as voice dialing and hear the audio thru my audio sytem without purchasing another parrott system? much appreciate your advice.

Actually you can talk with the iPhone still connected to your car audio. I owe an '06 Nissan Armada with an auxiliary jack included. Sometimes I will use my Apple BT. Here lately, I've been using nothing other than the iPhone plugged in and talking. I can hear the person I'm talking to and vice-versa. I always knew I could talk using the BT, but I just found out two weeks ago, that I could talk and listen without a BT, at all. The only thing you'll need to do is, make sure to decrease the volume of your system, in order to avoid any feedback. It'll work just fine, if you do it right. trust me.

  • Mobileconfig for unsupported carriers on SIM Free phones

Currently my company has several branches outside of the United States. We purchase SIM Free phones to use on unsupported carriers when a supported carrier is not available locally.
We also build mobileconfig files to control security, VPN, Exchange access, and APN configurations. All of the services we subscribe to includes tethering. We have access to the tethering APNs and when configured manually, it works flawlessly. The problem is when we create custom profile configuration, the tethering disappears but the data access still works. Today, our config files has no APNs which leaves the configuration open for individual users to enter manually. We would like however to include all of the configurations into one profile or multiple profiles pushed to the phones to include the carrier data APN, Tethering APN, and all of our internal configuration. Is it possible to do via mobileconfig files?

How Nokia and MS can test and approve something to a point that is ready for a carrier but not have it ready for non carrier based phones is really strange. Considering the carrier versions are based on the sim-free versions initially, before Nokia and MS make changes to suit the carriers. There should be no reason why they should still be testing the sim-free version completely around the world.
Who knows? Welcome to the mysteries of large multinational corporations. Gets even worse when there are 2 of them involved. I presume the same team/teams can only do one thing at a time. As they are prioritising their large customers, us minnows have to wait till they are done first.

  • I got a Sim Free 64GB Iphone 5 from Carphonewarehouse in UK n gifted the same to my Bro in law in India. He inserted the nano sim and can see the carrier and 3G symbol but the phone asks for activation. Its a SIM FREE phone, why cant he use it?

    Hi,
Please help me with this as the phone is currently lying as a dead paperwieght with my brother in law. The phone, even though bought as SIM FREE, keeps asking for ACTIVATION!!!
Does it mean that I need to activate it with a SIM of one of the carriers that offers a contract and then I am free to use it with any SIM anywhere in the world?
Please assist in as much detail as you can.
    Thanks.

    Hi FelipeV,
Thanks, tried that.. half their numbers keep going busy and when they do pick up they are unable to assist.
I called up APPLE in UK as well, no help there either..
but.. I say.. its a SIM FREE phone for crying out loud, what is this ACTIVATION nonsense??
    Thanks for the suggestion anyways.

  • Any hope for quality basic phones?

I'm out of contract, just got done browsing for a basic replacement phone and am disappointed with the current offerings. I feel that was marketing and intended. I've been a Verizon Wireless customer since 2001 and I was grandfathered in once they bought Alltel. I like to use Verizon because I get good reception in my area on their voice network and many of my family and friends use the service, so we have free mobile-to-mobile calls and texts. I say free, but I consider it a bargaining chip that came as part of the fee in the plan that I pay for every month.
I do not want a "smart phone" my lifestyle doesn't need or desire it. I have computers at work and home and all my typical haunts, I don't want to carry around an additional Internet device in my pocket (yes I know basic phones can access the net too in a limited way, for a premium). Being constantly online isn't desirable to me. I don't want to be GPS tracked, or browse the Internet on a tiny little phone screen. I like my old voice and text plan, the price is right. I'm not inclined to pay at least an extra $30/month to start a service that I don't want and just open the door for data overage fees - Just to have a decent phone! It's a despicable and ethically embarrassing corporate strategy.
So without getting into the profit motivations for phasing out basic service plans by only offering smartphones, why can't we have:
    Long battery life
    modern tablet style ergonomics
    decent reliable OS
    possible wi-fi if desired
    Good camera and flash
rugged enough to last at least the duration of a 2-year contract with normal wear
    Good sound quality and antenna
Technologically we already nailed it, have been there a long time but instead you try to force us to commit to these expensive bells and whistles many of us don't need or request. In this day and age I feel that basic phone service is a need, so why not do it right and excel at it? You probably don't make as much money off of it, but I'm still happy to pay like I have been if you would just sell a reasonable device for me to use. I'm tired of being made to feel like a second class citizen in the Verizon store with my old flip phone because I just want options, and my requests are fundamental, only basic service and good performance with my phone.

    That tired old argument?
I don't buy this supply side excuse. All these phones are useless without a service provider. Most are locked to providers. The manufacturers sell what the buyers want and the real buyers are the carriers, who then resell to the consumer.  The carriers want to pay the leases on their new networks and maximize profits, so they need data plans. Many consumers want these features and many do not (jaymeson). My gripe is with the quality of Verizon's non-data plan phones sliding backwards...
In my business, satisfied repeat customers are the majority of clients. Did Verizon not make profit before the smartphone hype? Verizon is diversified and very large, they tend to trample the individual consumer and it's their way or the highway. I had an experience in what was called a "corporate" verizon store yesterday. I wanted to evaluate my plan and make sure they had count my promotional minutes. The new alert system I learned is based off only your plan minutes and so before knowing that I got nervous when texts came in that said that I was reaching my allotment early. I thought they dropped my promo. I went into the store to sort this out face-to-face. It was quiet, there were three salesmen standing in the corner twisting their thumbs and doing nothing while I waited half an hour to be seen by someone. After authenticating me with my account, supposedly they couldn't pull my plan up on their computer and rudely kept pounding the mantra that I had to call customer service! Total waste of my time.
I've ended up ditching Verizon and ordering a nice new out-of-contract smartphone (best bang for buck feature-wise) and it should be here in a couple days. I'm activating on a different network, not as expensive or fast, but I don't need the download speed perks and will block most of it. The prepaid as suggested by Weth provides the freedom that I want. I'm only remaining on Verizon until I get the new phone in to activate and port over my number. If I like it the business contract phones will follow.
I'm going to consider this thread closed. I learned there is NO hope for quality basic phones on verizon. Thanks for participating.

  • 30 day (total 12 hr) duration failed attempt to give verizon MORE money for a new phone

I cover family phones and mifi devices in 3 states: TX, MD and CA. My brother is long overdue for a phone upgrade and we finally decided to do it.  He lives in TX and I'm in CA which means that to VZW one of us must live on the face of the moon because no matter how hard I have tried to buy him the new phone and sign a new contract the effort has failed.  1st I set it up, gave him the authority per phone consultant and he tried to walk into a storefront and go through the process.  The people he spoke with were entirely unable to compute the concept, refused to take his money and gave him no guidance about how to proceed. We tried this approach twice.  Next I called VZW and authorized everything on my end (2nd time but 3rd try) and after a good hour of discussion with "whoever", he went back to the store.  It is as if none of my conversations with VZW had ever taken place,  Nothing was documented and my hour(s) of hold time and discussion were simply wasted.  Contact with VZW must have just been blather with another know-nothing respondent.  Tried yet again using the online ordering option and my account access was closed for fraud (???) because my brother lives in TX and I'm in CA. Notwithstanding, VZW autopayments went through, they were happy to take the possibly fraudulent money.  Crazy.  Now I'm deeply into long conversations with VZW phone respondents using reference numbers and requesting supervisors (so they say) and the first one of these was guaranteed to work-- no question about it-- promises to personally follow through, etc.  No phone sent to my brother.  Nothing.  So I called again, repeated all the steps with double triple checks of credit card numbers (none of which were ever invalid as demonstrated by the charges that went through without difficulty) double triple checking addresses and which numbers are connected to which phones.... From VZW profuse apologies and promise to overnite phone-- gee whiz--- about 28 days late.  Today I have an email saying that phone won't be sent until I press a button and authorize/accept the agreement.  Which I did verbally on the phone previously and which I also did by punching a bunch of things into the phone service I was transferred to precisely for this purpose.  In fact, I was carefully instructed to do this immediately so that the phone COULD be sent right away.  So today no overnited phone will arrive.  After placing another 2 calls to VZW today (the first was simply cut off) I was told a supervisor would call me in 48 hrs by someone who seemed to take a little bit of pleasure in reinforcing multiple times that no one could get back to me today.  Huh?  I've got to say that in all of my years dealing with incompetence and lies (this is what you call a promise that you know will not take place VZW) this has been the worst experience ever.
Not incidentally, I am responsible for the business phone operations for a large organization and will make sure that we are no longer VZW customers when the contract is scheduled for renegotiation.  If VZW can't deal with family plans why should I trust them with our corporate account?  Shocking degree of ignorance, indifference, inefficiency and poor management strategy demonstrated consistently-- among other things.  VZW should assume that the way individual customers are treated may impact the bottom line in much bigger ways than it might appear.

this I also understand and fundamentally approve of.
However, we sorted out these issues (multiple times) and the charges went through at the various addresses, in other words the money WAS pulled, but no activity was forthcoming.  You can't have it both ways.  Fraud you shut down.  Money accepted should equal services provided and the equipment that it has paid for.  This was a comedy of errors that became unfunny after about the 5th phone call and 10th email.  No one is laughing in my household anymore.
As you suggest, I like my services to be protective. However, I do not like talking to people on the phone who make promises they can't/won't deliver on.  In particular I do not like paying for things that are then denied me due to system failure of any kind.  When that failure is pointed out repeatedly, and corrections are "guaranteed: and nothing changes I'm stupefied and enraged.
Errors happen.  I'd expect that once maybe, twice on occasion when there is a good explanation.  Multiple times over 30 days.  Unacceptable.
    Thank you for your interest.

Get onto the integrated iOS + Mac OS and end support for "legacy" Mac 10.8 and earlier.
Force older hardware users like me to upgrade to new hardware which is where $$ are.
Make apps work across tablets, phone, and computer with similar (though not the "same" app, but able to read and use the same file format).
    Simplify.
I don't think anyone incl. Microsoft knew Windows 8.1 was going to be a free upgrade, I didn't and read that it would be more like $30.
No OS is ready for everyone on the day it is launched. iOS 7 is now 7.04 and climbing, Mac OS tends to really not be ready until the last patch and version is out, often a year or more after it was first issued. Ship it, then plan to fix the bugs left in or that surface.
www.macperformanceguide.com is saying "No" to Maverick for now. Of course there will be no "No" on new Mac Pro 2013 6,1 when those ship (Late Jan? )

  • Can someone help me with the March 2014 Promotion for a free iphone 5c?

Extremely disappointed in a promotion I took advantage of way back in March 2014 for a free 5c iphone.  I purchased the "free" phone and was told I would see the $200 credit on my account in 1-3 months.  Time ticked on and I never did see this credit on my monthly bill.  I phoned the Verizon number and spoke to someone who tried to research this issue.  He told me best to go to the store where I purchased the phone.  Went to the store but was told to contact the manager and district manager via email.  Did that attached a copy of my order and credit card statement showing the purchase of the phone.  Seemed pretty straightforward according to the manager - especially since he too remembered this promotion.  Needed to talk to Verizon corporate and the promotion number.  No one seems to know of this promotion - as noted in this community.  Have had a run around for the past 2 1/2 months on this with the store manager.  After having to reach out again on the status of this issue I was told the best they could do is give me a $100 credit for merchandise in the store.  This is not acceptable.  My family has been a long standing good customer of Verizon and I am very ready to jump ship.  All I want is the promotion that I was offered. It appears that many people had this same occurrence happen to them.  Some seem to have had it resolved.  Can anyone at Verizon help me on this?   Does anyone know the promotion code so that maybe I could do the job that Verizon isn't doing!

Phone was purchased at the Verizon Store in Alpharetta GA on Rucker Rd and Crabapple Rd.
I contacted Ryan << removed >> via email per the sales guy at the store's sales guys recommendation.
Ryan had me working with the store Manager, Keith << removed >>.  Keith worked hard at first but as of late has dropped the ball on getting this done.  I only get information when I reach out to him....either calling the store, emailing or visiting the store in person.  Usually, he is busy (naturally) and makes a call to someone at corporate but the person on the other end isn't there.  The response he seems to get is this is not a valid promotion.  He in person has told me that he himself remembers this promotion.
I don't want any other equipment/devices from the store.    I really just want my $200 bill pay credit.
I was in the store on 3/31/14 but the phone had to be ordered since it wasn't in stock.  It eventually shipped to my in the end of April.  I have attached the email for validation.  Also in there are the other phones that were purchased on my credit card for verizon.  You will note I did purchase a 5s on the 3/31/14 as well.
Please keep me in the loop on this...and let me know what you find.
I will be so appreciative if you can get me the promotion number and/or credit our account.

  • Legitimate request for a free upgrade to Windows 7

I am new to this forum and am incensed by the attitude of Toshiba customer support staff towards my legitimate request for a free upgrade to windows 7, below is an email I have written to them which I would appreciate your comments on:
    To whom it may concern.
I am writing to express my displeasure with your response to my legitimate request for a free upgrade to Windows 7 seeing that I have recently spent over 1000 of one of your products.
After having multiple issues with the Vista operating system, I phoned your customer support on the 4th of December and had a conversation with a male employee who was unable to satisfy me as to why my machine was not entitled to a free upgrade to Windows 7 as mentioned on your web site.
He offered to pass me up to a supervisor which I accepted and was connected to a female member of staff who tried to explain that my model was not included in the "promotion". I could see no sense in her explanation, in context to the facts that my machine was of the same age and family as those been offered the "promotion"
This employee was again unable to answer or understand my question and said she was not technically minded so I asked her to put me through to her supervisor and after 10 minutes holding on the line I got to speak to Alistair Cook.
Mr Cook explained the "promotion" to me but could not explain why my model was excluded so he said he would call me back when he found out why. This he did some short time after and reiterated his earlier account with no further clarity. He said he would do more research on the matter and email me the findings.
This contacting your customer support office took a total of 48 minutes on the phone.
Vista is to all intents a failure, a fact you accept by your offer of free upgrades to your recent customers, so why discriminate against some consumers and not others.
I am a long time user of Toshiba computers, this Qosmio is my third laptop and I have always been satisfied with the customer support, not that it was greatly needed. So I again ask that you do the right thing and provide me with my principled entitlement.
    Yours sincerely.

    Hi mate
    Very interesting point of view.
But fact is that not all Toshiba notebooks are verified for a Win 7 upgrade.
    Why???
Well I have checked the Toshiba European page
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com -> Windows Upgrade 7
and there I could find a FAQ list.
One of the FAQ provides this info:
_What requirements do I need to satisfy to take part in the Upgrade Program?_
+To take part in the Upgrade Program, you must satisfy the following three criteria:+
+1. You purchased your Toshiba computer between 26th June 2009 and 31st January 2010.+
+2. Your Toshiba computer is one of the model series to be verified on the Toshiba page.+
+3. Along with your Toshiba computer you purchased a Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, or Windows Vista Ultimate operating system.+
It looks like several criteria must be satisfied in order to participate in Win 7 upgrade program.

If I buy a sim free phone here and take it to the Ukraine with me, can I get a card there in the Ukraine to use the phone with.  If that is possible, when I return to the states can I get an AT & T sim card and the same phone work in the states?  Thanks in advance for your help.

If you buy an unlocked phone, it will work on any compatible GSM network anywhere in the world. If you buy an unlocked phone in the US, it will not work on LTE networks outside of North America. The warranty is also only valid in the country where the phone was originally sold.
