ARD 3.3.2 Client Computer "OFFLINE" HELP?

Hi,
I have ARD 3.3.2, my master computer is a macbook pro and my client computer is a macpro
The macbook pro is connected via wifi
The macpro is connected via GIGABIT ethernet
This set up has been working amazingly for weeks and all of a sudden tonight i cannot connect to the macpro, iv'e even tried my free chicken of vnc app to connect and thats coming back with permission errors, and that always works.
ARD app is saying the macpro is "offline" Iv'e unpluged the router, restarted both machines and no luck. The internet is working fine on BOTH computers.
The only thing I can think of is that my macbook pro is on 10.6.5 and the macpro is on 10.6.4 but as its too late this evening i wont be able to update the macpro till tmrw
P.s Remote Desktop management is still switched on in the system prefs, i even turned it off then back on but no luck
Help, thanks

Have you tried deleting the client in ARD and then try to add it back? That seems to fix quite a few problems like this.
I have a similar (or possibly the same) issue with one of our client computers. It has been working fine for months, but last week or so it appeared offline. When I tried to delete it and add it back, I couldn't. It didn't show up in the "Scanner" and when I tried to add it manually with the IP address it saw it, but authentication failed. And I'm sure I have the correct username/password because I have another computer with ARD that can see it and control it just fine. And I've even deleted it and added it back on that computer with no problem. It's really strange. I haven't been able to figure out how to get it working again.

  • Need help restoring a C: (boot) drive on a client computer

What is the best way to restore the c: drive on a client computer?  The SSD died so I have to start with a new drive.  Can I plug the new drive into another client that is working and restore the drive from there?  Or, do I need to install
the OS on the new SSD first and then attempt a restore?
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

If your old SSD drive died and you will add new drive to the system. You need to install windows on it. You can only clone the SSD's if the original drive is working. You should add the new SSD in to the computer built it and once up and running if the died
SSD access able copy the data across.

  • Windows Server 2012 Essentials (not R2) - all client computers offline

The server is Windows Server 2012 Essentials (not R2). I have had this problem ever since I first installed the Windows Server 2012 Essentials server in the summer of 2013 (before R2 was released). The Windows Server 2012 Essentials server shows offline
for all Devices under Dashboard. (Allow me to add that I just installed another site with Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2, and it was a breeze - all of the computers at the second install site are online.) I have one Windows 8.1 Pro client and the rest
are Windows 7 Pro clients. The problem occurs on ALL client computers.
I have removed computers from Devices in Dashboard on the server, rebooted the server, changed the client computer to a workgroup, rebooted the client computer, and reinstalled the connector software on the client computer. Same result. I
have tried this on a Windows 7 Pro client and a Windows 8.1 Pro client with the same results.
After running the connector on a client computer and waiting for the server to update its Devices status, if I look under Devices on the server Dashboard, the Windows 8.1 client computer will say online but within 24 hours it goes offline again. The
Windows 7 client computers never show online. Both computers stay offline - they NEVER show an online status (referring to the status under Devices in Dashboard).
I should make it clear that the clients can access the server shares with no problem. File synchronization works great. The clients can ping the server and the server can ping the clients. But client backups on the server fail.
One of the most troublesome things about this problem is that it prevents the client computers from being accessed remotely using the website setup by Anywhere Access. I can login to get remote access to the shared files on the server, but
the only computer that says "online" is the server. All of the other computers are "offline".
The server and clients are only using Windows firewall. The clients all use Microsoft Security Essentials for their anti-virus.
I used a troubleshooting tool that tells me that there are problems with port 6602 on the server, but the clients are all fine with port 6602. I know port 6602 is important for using Anywhere Access but I am still trying to find out more details on that.
I have checked all of the firewall settings related to port 6602 on the server, and the firewall settings look like the standard Windows settings for this port. I used netstat to find the PID associated with the port, and I looked up the PID to find the service.
    That all looked standard, too.
I have been working on this problem since the summer of 2013!! Does anyone have ANY suggestions?!!
    HELP!

    Hi,
Just addition, please check if all necessary Windows updates are installed on those
    “Offline” client computer.
When connect client computers to the Windows Server 2012 Essentials server by using the Connector software, there
will be LAUNCHPAD on the client computer. Was this LAUNCHPAD grayed out? Please check if can access Shared Folders via this LAUNCHPAD. Meanwhile, please ping the Windows Server 2012 Essentials via IP address and server name when client computers show as
    Offline. Any find?
Get Connected in Windows Server Essentials
In addition, please follow the path on Server and client computer:
%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs. Did you check any relevant Server-side logs and
Client-side Logs if find more clues?
    Windows
Server Essentials 2012/2012 R2 Log Files
If any update, please feel free to let us know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot have multiple users logged in at once on a single client computer

I am running OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard Server on a Mac Pro, and have two iMacs (27.5") as clients in my workgroup.
    Computer A : Server
    Computer B, C : Client machines
The problem is that when user1 is logged onto the server network drive (/Network/Servers/ComputerA/Users/~user1/) from a given client (say ComputerB), it is not possible to login another user (user2) onto the server network drive from client Computer B.
It IS possible however for user2 to log in from another client machine (ComputerC) without any problem and access his home directory.
Similarly it IS possible for a local user to log onto ComputerB while a network user is logged onto the central file server.
If user1 is logged into ComputerB, and user 2 is logged onto ComputerC, if user1 ssh's over to Computer B, he can log in, but he cannot access his home directory, getting the following error:
Could not chdir to home directory /Network/Servers/nplab0/Users/chris_dimattina: Permission denied
    -bash: /Network/Servers/nplab0/Users/chrisdimattina/.bashprofile: Permission denied
and gets sent to the root directory of ComputerB.
    Any help would be appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Thanks!
What can I do to fix it? Should I use NFS protocol instead?
I basically want to make my workgroup into a standard UNIX workgroup where lots of different people can be logged in and running jobs on the same machine.

  • Issue with re-connecting a Client Computer to the Server Essentials R2 2012

I have an issue re-connecting a Client Computer to Server Essentials R2 2012.  The Client Computer in question was connected to the Sever originally.  I started getting Error Messages indicating that I was running out of storage room.  I
had been wanting to re-configure this Server with additional Hard Drives for some time, but something else always came up first.  Now, I was forced to address the problem.  I shut down the Server and added additional Hard Drives and while I was at
it I replaced the original Hard Drive that the Server Operating System was on with a much smaller Hard Drive, and reinstalled Server Essentials on that Drive.  Everything was working fine and the Server Back-up went fine to an external Hard Drive.
I was ready to re-install my Client Computers.  I started with my primary Production Computer first.  The Connector Software seemed to install fine, but as I moved through the Connection Wizard I received the following Error Message:  "Cannot
connect this computer to the network.  This computer is already connected to another Windows Server Network.  Before connecting this computer to the Windows Server Essentials network, you must remove this computer from the current network.
To resolve this issue, contact the person responsible for your network".  I am the Administrator.  I removed the Connector Software following the instructions in the "Troubleshooting connecting computers to the Server", but I continue
to get the Error Message whenever I attempt to re-connect the Client Computer.  I have not attempted to connect any of the other three Client Computers yet as I need to resolve this issue first on my primary production machine.  Where am I going
wrong?  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi PARADOX-RED,
Based on the error messages that you provided, please remove the connector software from Control Panel completely. Then, in the problematic computer, please locate
to: Control Panel-> System-> select Change settings. And select the Computer Name tab in the System Properties dialog box, click
change button. Then in the Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog box, please take the computer out of the domain as a workgroup, and rejoin in new domain.
Please check if this issue can be solved. If it still exists, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • 2012 R2 RDS Shadowing from Server Manager - how to view client computer names

    Hello,
I have a 2012R2 RDS session based deployment. We have a few generic user accounts for a production environment where a group of users uses the same username to start multiple RDS sessions. This creates a bit of a challenge when support has to shadow one
of those sessions because they all appear with the same name: domain\username. The Connections pane in RDS (Server manager) does not list client computer name, which would be the distinguishing factor. The old version of the RDS console (remote
desktop manager) had this information. Citrix appears to have it as well. Is there a way around this limitation in 2012R2 Server Manager?
    Thanks

    Hi,
As far as I know, there are two ways.
    1. Use the Task Manager. In the Users Tab, you can see the client name.

    2. Use the Terminal Services PowerShell Module. With the Get-TSSession in PowerShell, we can get the detailed information.

I have a Windows server 2008 R2 and I'm using backup feature to backup all computers in the network on it. Recently I ran into an issue and had to re-image my Windows 2008 R2 server  and had to restore 2 of my client computers but now I can't restore

  • Client computer able to connect server by wan?

    Dear all
Client computer able to connect oracle Database Server by wan? (not in lan)
    at client computer's tnsnames.ora
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 203.222.222.222)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = kennam) (SERVER = SHARED) (SERVICE_NAME = kennam)))
    like this?
    did anyone tried this?

Justin, doesn't basic client come without any EXE's?
As far as I recall, it is just the OCI DLLs and one
or two message files. SQL*Plus is a separate download
and I doubt that tnsping is part of it.Are you talking about the Instant Client? That's more for application installers to bundle with their apps. I'm talking about the full-blown Oracle client (which is a multi-hundred MB download) that is more commonly installed out there. Ideally, of course, Oracle would be able to come up with some sort of middle ground between the two, something that isn't hideously bloated but that doesn't contain every possible bell and/or whistle.
For me, tnsping is very much a piece of useless
software. The name implies "testing the TNS alias".
It does not. A tnsping on a TNS alias can work, and
that exact same alias can fail to work when used via
SQL*Plus or another client - simply because tnsping
only validates that there is a Listener on that IP
and port. It does not validate anything else in that
    TNS alias.
So what's the point..? One can just as well use
SQL*Plus to "ping" a TNS alias (using dummy username
and password) as this will also confirm the rest of
the data in the TNS alias. While tnsping isn't the most useful tool on the face of the planet, it does identify problems where you have multiple tnsnames files (i.e. multiple Oracle Homes) and the tns alias you just added is in the wrong file or cases where the tnsnames file has some sort of non-obvious formatting defect. Most of the time, folks have problems with the server and port in the TNS alias, so it does catch (in my experience) the majority of configuration problems.
Of course, you could also use SQL*Plus with a dummy username & password. If you're trying to help someone else debug a problem, though, particularly over the phone/ in forums, telling them to use tnsping tends to generate a lot fewer questions than telling them to use SQL*Plus with a dummy username & password. Particularly since lots of people assume that they can substitute their GUI of choice for SQL*Plus because 99% of the time they can, but in this one case you really, really mean SQL*Plus. Particularly with SQL Developer out there that can bypass the tnsnames file entirely using JDBC.

  • I installed the latest version of ibooks on my ipad. I have about 50 different collections of scanned pdf's. I can only view up to the letter M. Any idea where the rest went? These are client files. Help!!!

I installed the latest version of ibooks on my ipad. I have about 50 different collections of scanned pdf's. I can only view up to the letter M. Any idea where the rest went? These are client files. Help!!!

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Applying mcx settings to a client computer (leopard)

I am starting to play around with managing client computers from my leopard server, and thought I would try a simple test. In WGM, I created a new computer account in /Local/Default, but my changes don't seem to propagate to the client computer. I have checked the mac addy and it is correct. I have rebooted the client computer a few times, and it has not received the changes I have specified. I have looked at the client in System Profiler > managed clients, and it reports "no information found"
The only services enabled on my server are AFP, SMB, and firewall. Is there a setting on either the client or server that I am forgetting? The leopard user management manual is very skimpy regarding computer account setup...
    Thanks in advance

I set Workgroup Management up recently and got it working. Your server needs to be running the Open Directory Service and the client needs to be connected to that service before WGM can do anything useful.
My set up is more complex because I also have a Windows Active Directory Server. Nevertheless, this reference may be a helpful. It told me exactly what I needed to know for my set up.

  • ARD 3.1 and ARD Not Active on Clients

I have ARD 3.1 installed on a PPX X-serve running 10.4.8. The client I am managing are core duo minis also running version 3.1 and 10.4.8.
Lately when ever I try to see the clients throuh ARD I get the message that ARD isn't active on the client or the client is offline.
I tesetd this on site and ADR is enabled on all the clients and all had working ip connections.
    Any ideas where to start?
    Thanks,
    Eric

Yea same here....our machines (250) can be sitting at the login windows and ARD is running and I can do pretty much anything with them that I want using ARD on them. Thats on a local network though....not using wireless, not that should matter though. Also using ARD 3.1.
When you have users logging off at the clients ARD Agent or something with ARD shutsdown for a moment until the machine gets back to the login window and then the Agent should restart and be waiting for ARD like normal again.
    Thanks,

  • ARD 3.2.2 client update: new lab problems

I've been using ARD for years to manage my Mac labs. Sometimes it worked well, sometimes it didn't. I even beta tested it once so I am aware it's not Apple's most glorious piece of software.
My latest problems began after updating the clients to 3.2.2 (using ARD, of course). (Clients are running both 10.5.4 and 10.5.5.) I can see the clients in the Scanner list (without the ARD version listed for some reason), activate them in the list (after some difficulty), observe and control them -- but I CANNOT perform the other tasks listed under the Manage menu (copy items, empty trash, restart, etc.). If I attempt to do so, I am told they are Offline (when they obviously are not, since I can observe/control them) and that the task is not supported.
Reinstalling the 3.2.2 client updater manually at a workstation does not fix the problem, nor does repairing permissions. Client settings under the Sharing System Prefs panel are the same as they ever were (ie, I am allowed to do the things I am attempting to do).
I have tried this with ARD admin 3.2.2 from an Intel iMac set up as a Leopard Server, as well as from a station in the lab itself. Same problems.
Other more advanced tricks have been discussed in other threads here, but I have never had to go to those lengths to get ARD to work. IMO the 3.2.2 updater messed something up.
FWIW, here is the results of my permissions repair on a station where I used ARD to update the client:

    Permissions repair complete

    Hi,
You mentioned the machines are all from a single image. I realize you are an experienced ARD user. However, there are quirks in this app at any stage of development. I'm sure you already applied a unique name to the shared network name and have no DHCP conflicts as well as checked that all the accounts, not just the admin account that permissions are checked. Although you may have all the correct ports addressed and configured, there is no accurate accounting for the gremlins. These play havoc across the network. Sometimes the only thing you can do is go to the machine and walk through the settings as if it was the first time. I can't tell you how many times a problem has resolved itself after just logging into the admin and redoing the settings. I mean the exact settings that are already selected. Sometimes the settings were actually wrong, even ones that came from an identical image. Like forgetting to select the observe and control selections in the sharing options for all the users. Other times it was simply deselecting and reselecting the options and restarting that snapped the machine out of the funk.
Aside from the occasional discovery of admin setup issues, I live by the motto "the simplest solutions are usually the best, and should be tried first". Glitches do happen though. Sometimes running the scanner and reselecting and dragging the same machine into your user lists can refresh a connection that is not acting properly. I have detected countless quirks that cause strange side effects. Do a get info on the specific machine and delete the IP, then make sure you have the "name".local in the DNS name field. Re-enter the admin or try a user account name in this experiment and test this. This has given me clues to setup issues before having to go to the machine. I know this stuff sounds simplistic but it has solved most of my issues.
    Good Luck

  • Take laptop & printer to client, need to print from client computer using my printer

I nstalled my HP Laserjet 1102w to my laptop with my ips address to work wireless.
I take my laptop & printer to client's location and need to print from their computers using my HP Laserjet 1102w.
I network in to their ips address using my laptop to.
Could not install my HP Laserjet 1102w on their computer & print from their computer.
How do i print from my HP Laserjet 1102w using their computers at their location?
    Thanks!

    Hi debitacct ,
    Thanks for clarifying that information.
You would have to restore the printer's defaults and reset up the printer on their network at the new location every time, to be able to print from the clients computer and you would have to connect to their network on your computer and add the printer back in again with the new IPv4 address.
Another way you could do this is through a USB connection or use the Wireless Direct.
You would have to enable the Wireless Direct on the printer through the printer's Embedded Web Server if you didn't select this feature during the installation. This will allow both computers to connect directly to the printer and print, but keep in mind you won't have internet access at the same time. So you can print when connected to the printer's network or connect back to the main network again to access the internet.
Here are the steps for enabling the Wireless Direct through the printer's Embedded Web Server if you decide to go this route. Print a configuration page to get the printer's IPv4 address. Printing a Configuration Page.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Internet Explorer)
Then click on the Networking tab, select Wireless Direct Setup on the left side and check the Enable wireless direct printing.
I hope I explained that alright for you. The USB connection would most likely be the easiest way to go.

  • ARD 3.5.1 Client not creating users

    Hi,
We have recently purchased ARD 3.5.1 but the client installer is not creating the User we have specified in the create client installer wizard. After some research, there was a post saying that we should add a case for 10.7 in the makeuser file inside the client installer package. I have done that, and it created the user. That seemed to have solved that problem. But, another problem is that ARD will not connect to that client unless remote managment is unchecked and then checked again.
That all seemed to have made everything work fine. The problem is, this is not a fix. I have to do this on alot of systems and I do not want to have to uncheck and recheck remote management throughout the company.
Is this something that any of you are dealing with?
Why would we even have to edit the makeuser file. The case should have already been set on apples end. I also should not have to uncheck and recheck remote management in order to kickstart the service. This should all be already configured properly during the Create Client Installer wizard.
Any help or feedback would greatly be appreciated!
    Thanks!
    (Using ARD 3.5.1 & 10.7.2 machines)

    Lion/ARD users,
I am also having issues with ARD and Lion.
I have done my Lion upgrades remotely via ARD. The Lion upgrades do ok and after install reboot I get remote connection back up again. However after running software update, which downloads ARD Client 3.5.1 my Apple Remove Desktop is no longer able to connect to the machine.
I also cannot access machine via VNC but can access it via SSH.
So it appears to be a problem with VNC ...
    Here is the error:
So while ARD see the "fritz" client ok it cannot connect to it.
I have looked in Console log and there are no clues there about what is causing the problem.
I have install the ARD Admin 3.5 Update, so that does not help fix the problem.
I have 7 remote Mac I need to access to this is a signficant problem...
    Cheers,
    Zebity.
