Client computer able to connect server by wan?

Dear all
Client computer able to connect oracle Database Server by wan? (not in lan)
at client computer's tnsnames.ora
(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 203.222.222.222)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = kennam) (SERVER = SHARED) (SERVICE_NAME = kennam)))
like this?
did anyone tried this?

Justin, doesn't basic client come without any EXE's?
As far as I recall, it is just the OCI DLLs and one
or two message files. SQL*Plus is a separate download
and I doubt that tnsping is part of it.Are you talking about the Instant Client? That's more for application installers to bundle with their apps. I'm talking about the full-blown Oracle client (which is a multi-hundred MB download) that is more commonly installed out there. Ideally, of course, Oracle would be able to come up with some sort of middle ground between the two, something that isn't hideously bloated but that doesn't contain every possible bell and/or whistle.
For me, tnsping is very much a piece of useless
software. The name implies "testing the TNS alias".
It does not. A tnsping on a TNS alias can work, and
that exact same alias can fail to work when used via
SQL*Plus or another client - simply because tnsping
only validates that there is a Listener on that IP
and port. It does not validate anything else in that
TNS alias.
So what's the point..? One can just as well use
SQL*Plus to "ping" a TNS alias (using dummy username
and password) as this will also confirm the rest of
the data in the TNS alias.While tnsping isn't the most useful tool on the face of the planet, it does identify problems where you have multiple tnsnames files (i.e. multiple Oracle Homes) and the tns alias you just added is in the wrong file or cases where the tnsnames file has some sort of non-obvious formatting defect. Most of the time, folks have problems with the server and port in the TNS alias, so it does catch (in my experience) the majority of configuration problems.
Of course, you could also use SQL*Plus with a dummy username & password. If you're trying to help someone else debug a problem, though, particularly over the phone/ in forums, telling them to use tnsping tends to generate a lot fewer questions than telling them to use SQL*Plus with a dummy username & password. Particularly since lots of people assume that they can substitute their GUI of choice for SQL*Plus because 99% of the time they can, but in this one case you really, really mean SQL*Plus. Particularly with SQL Developer out there that can bypass the tnsnames file entirely using JDBC.

  • Clients not able to connect to MS exchange server over a cisco switch

    Hello,
    I have a Cisco L3 switch.
    I have a Exchange server and until i split the network into every thing was working ok, meaning the clients can connect to the Exchange without issues.
    But after i split the network into 2 vlans, moving the exchange in one vlan and the clients in another vlan, i have complains saying that the users are not able to connect to exchange periodically.
    Even users from the same subnet also cannot connect to the exchange often.
    Meaning the clients can connect to the exchange and suddenly it will stop working. at the same time i can ping the exchange and that shows there is no routing issue or LAN issue.
    But still clients cant connect to the exchange, when i reboot it will start working again for some time.
    wondering whether it could be related to any network related issue or MTU or PMTUD issues.
    The whole issue started only after we split the network into two vlans.

    If you have physical access to the switch, it may save time to look at the port LEDs which give you the link status or may indicate an error condition (if red or orange). The table below describes the LED status indicators for Ethernet modules or fixed-configuration switches:

  • RV082 Remote Clients not Able To Access Server

    I have a RV082 and several of my remote laptops cannot access my server using its domain name. It can be accessed using its internal ip address. The issue is that you can log onto the server using remote access and the ip however you cannot use any shortcuts using the domain name. You can see the server with the domin name however no access path is available. This is only on a few remote user laptops. Others work perfectly. Does anyone have any advise?

    Evans,
    Please be details as possible when posting next.
    You say some of your remote laptops can't access server via name and some can. How are the computers than can connect to servers name different from the ones that can't?
    what connection type are the remote user using to connect to your network?
    They using vpn software located on RV082?
    IPsec / PPTP  both ?
    What's the subnet's that the remote computers are remote from ?
    whats the local subnet of RV082?
    Is the subnet's the same on remote computer as the RV082 ?
    What's the WAN type (public) (private ) ip address ?
    What's the topology of your network ?
    You can also give the Cisco Small Business Support Center a call @ 1-866-606-1866 and get help with your issue as well.

  • I'm not able to connect from 9.2 client to 8.1.7.0 database through ODBC

    Hi,
    I'm trying to connect from ORACLE 9.2 client to 8.1.7 DATABASE. The client is on WINDOWS XP. But I'm getting connection timed out error message. What's wrong with that ?

    Can you connect to the 8.1.7 database from other clients? Can you verify that the listner is up?
    Can the 9.2 client connect to some database?
    I'm guessing that the 8.1.7 database listner isn't up or that the tnsnames on your client isn't set up correctly.
    Justin Hi Justin,
    1) I am able to connect to 8.1.7 database from other clients.
    2)The 9.2 client is able to connect to some other database on the network which is 8.1.6.2.
    3) I have cut and pasted tnsnames.ora from the working client( but that client is 8i client ).
    4) this is the first time I am using this kind of configuration i.e., trying to access 8.1.7 server from 9.2 client. I tried to create new connection through NET CONFIGURATION ASSISTANT as per the documentation but it's not working.

    Unfortunately my machine got shut off in between the process .
    Now after re-starting my machine , I am not able to logon to DAC with the same UserID / password .

  • Other iMac appears as Bonjour computer AND Connected Server

    Is this right? In Finder preferences I have Connected servers and Bonjour computers set to show in the sidebar. My wife's iMac appears as both a Bonjour computer AND a Connected server. We have two PC's here as well and they appear (correctly) as Bonjour computers. My iMac appears as Connected server only on wife's iMac.
    It's not really a problem but you know how it is - you just want everything to be right. So is there a reason for this that I can fix?
    Thanks.

    Just thought I'd mention that if I try to connect to wife's iMac through Bonjour the connection fails.

  • Issue with re-connecting a Client Computer to the Server Essentials R2 2012

    I have an issue re-connecting a Client Computer to Server Essentials R2 2012.  The Client Computer in question was connected to the Sever originally.  I started getting Error Messages indicating that I was running out of storage room.  I
    had been wanting to re-configure this Server with additional Hard Drives for some time, but something else always came up first.  Now, I was forced to address the problem.  I shut down the Server and added additional Hard Drives and while I was at
    it I replaced the original Hard Drive that the Server Operating System was on with a much smaller Hard Drive, and reinstalled Server Essentials on that Drive.  Everything was working fine and the Server Back-up went fine to an external Hard Drive.
    I was ready to re-install my Client Computers.  I started with my primary Production Computer first.  The Connector Software seemed to install fine, but as I moved through the Connection Wizard I received the following Error Message:  "Cannot
    connect this computer to the network.  This computer is already connected to another Windows Server Network.  Before connecting this computer to the Windows Server Essentials network, you must remove this computer from the current network.
    To resolve this issue, contact the person responsible for your network".  I am the Administrator.  I removed the Connector Software following the instructions in the "Troubleshooting connecting computers to the Server", but I continue
    to get the Error Message whenever I attempt to re-connect the Client Computer.  I have not attempted to connect any of the other three Client Computers yet as I need to resolve this issue first on my primary production machine.  Where am I going
    wrong?  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi PARADOX-RED,
    Based on the error messages that you provided, please remove the connector software from Control Panel completely. Then, in the problematic computer, please locate
    to: Control Panel-> System-> select Change settings. And select the Computer Name tab in the System Properties dialog box, click
    change button. Then in the Computer Name/Domain Changes dialog box, please take the computer out of the domain as a workgroup, and rejoin in new domain.
    Please check if this issue can be solved. If it still exists, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Client Computer cannot connect to server over internet (VPN)

    Hello Guys,
    I am setting up a windows server 2012 Data centre for business purpose. I have installed & configured server with AD DC, DNS, DHCP, IIS, NPS, Routing etc.. I am able to connect client computers which is on the same domain to the server through same router.
    VPN also work fine. But if I try to connect to the server via VPN through a different internet connection it won't connect. Can some one please tell me what I am doing wrong.
    My Network Confg is,
    DHCP IP ADDRESS FROM ISP
    DHCP Disables Router, (Tried with enable)
    Have my own website domain which is not linked with the server.
    NAT not configured.
    Thanks in Advance
    Emmanual.

    Hi Emmanual,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    Can you ping to the remote server after connecting through VPN?
    Did you find any specific error\event id for your case?
    What’s your client OS version?
    If you are not getting ping successfully then seems there is connection issue through VPN. So for this you can initially check the connection setting with following article.
    You Cannot Connect to the Internet After You Connect to a VPN Server
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317025
    There are several reason as client is not getting remotely connected to server. In addition you can checl following article.
    Enabling remote client access over a VPN connection

    Hope it helps!

  • OD SSL Connection from 10.7 Client to 10.6.8 Server Not Working

    We have an existing Open Directory running on a 10.6.8 Xserve in which we have all our client OS X computers using as their authentication/authorization server. Clients are a mix of 10.5 and 10.6. We have the clients configured to connect to the server via an SSL LDAP connection. The SSL LDAP connection is a policy requirement so we can’t use a non-SSL connection. We have tried 3 different 10.7 client computers and none of them have been able to connect to the OD server via SSL. A non-SSL connection works. When we check off the box to enable an SSL OD connection in the 10.7 Directory Utility app the OD connection stops working. We get a red status indicator for the OD server connection like you get when the client can’t communicate to the OD server. Any OD lookup I try in the terminal against the OD server fails, confirming the computer’s inability to “talk” to our OD server. I ran a packet sniffer and I can see that a 10.7 client computer configured to use SSL never attempts to connect to the OD server using the LDAP SSL port of 636. I only see the client attempting to connect to the non-SSL LDAP port 389 on the server. I have already tried the usual of repair permissions, rebooting, reinstalling. We have been able to follow this Apple support doc in the past to get this to work with 10.5 and10.6 clients but the instructions don’t appear to work with 10.7 clients:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4183
    Can anyone else confirm an SSL LDAP connection between a 10.7 client computer to a 10.6.8 OD server does not work? Has anyone even gotten this setup to work?

    Martin,
    That was the link the OP used that didn't work for him.
    I haven't heard from James, but I solved my problem using both this support article:

  • Sockets: How can server detect that client is no longer connected?

    Hi,
    I really need help and advice with the following problem:
    I have a Client - Server socket program.
    The server listens on port 30000 using a server socket on one machine
    The client connects to localhost on port 20000, previously creating an ssh port forward connection using the Jsch package from www.jcraft.com with
    "session.setPortForwardingL(20000, addr, 30000);"
    Then the client sends Strings to the server using a PrintWriter.
    Both are connected to each other through the internet and the server uses a dynamic dns service.
    This all works well until the IP address of the Server changes, The client successfully reconnects to the server using the dynamic dns domain name, but the server keeps listening on the old socket from the previous connection, while opening a new one for the new client connection. The server doesn't seem to notice that Client has disconnected because of this IP address change.
    looks like the server is stuck inside the while loop. If i cut the connection manually on the client side, the server seems to notice that the client has disconnected, and jumps out of the while look (see code below)
    this is the code I'm using for the server:
    import java.io.BufferedReader;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.io.InputStreamReader;
    import java.net.Socket;
    import java.util.logging.Logger ;
    public class SocketHandler extends Thread {
        static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger("Server.SocketHandler");
        private Socket clientSocket = null;
        private BufferedReader in = null;
        private InputStreamReader inReader = null;
        public SocketHandler(Socket clientSocket) throws IOException {
            this.clientSocket = clientSocket;
            inReader = new InputStreamReader(clientSocket.getInputStream ());
            in = new BufferedReader(inReader);
        public void run() {
            try {
                String clientMessage = null;
                while ((clientMessage = in.readLine()) != null) {
                    logger.info("client says: " + clientMessage);
            } catch (IOException e) {
                logger.severe(e.getMessage());
                e.printStackTrace();
            } finally {
                try {
                    logger.info("closing client Socket: " + clientSocket);
                    clientSocket.close();
                    in.close();
                    ServerRunner.list.remove(clientSocket);
                    logger.info("currently "+ServerRunner.list.size()+" clients connected");
                } catch (IOException e) {
                    logger.severe (e.getMessage());
                    e.printStackTrace();
    }I've tried making the server create some artificial traffing by writing some byte every few seconds into the clients OutputStream. However I get no exceptions when the IP address changes. The server doesn't detect a disconnected socket connection.
    I'd really appreciate help and advice

    If a TCP/IP peer is shut down "uncleanly", the other end of the connection doesn't get the final end of connection packet, and read() will wait forever. close() sends the final packet, as will killing the peer process (the OS does the close()). But if the OS crashes or for some other reason can't send the final packet, the server never gets notification that the peer has gone away.
    Like you say, one way is timeout, if the protocol is such that there always is something coming in at regular intervals.
    The other way is a heartbeat. Write something to the other end periodically, just some kind of "hello, I'm here, ignore this message". The other end doesn't even have to answer. If the peer has gone away, TCP will retransmit your heartbeat message a few times. After about a minute it will give up, and mark the socket as broken. read() will then throw an IOException. You could send heartbeats from the client too, so that the client detects if the server computer dies.
    TCP/IP also has a TCP-level heartbeat; see Socket.setKeepAlive(). The heartbeat interval is about two hours, so it takes it a while to detect broken connections.

    I have a new Windows 7 clean install with updates that is not able to connect to SBS 2011 at all.
    In the past (about 2 years ago) I ran into the same problem and by following the simple steps outlined here - http://blog.ronnypot.nl/?p=594 - it worked no problem. Now it does not help at all.
    For a test, I took a spare machine and did a clean install of SBS 2011, applied the updates (except NET 4.5.1). When I tried to connect the new Windows 7 machine to the new SBS 2011 machine - this also has failed.

  • Only able to connect to internet through Broadband DSL one computer at a time.

    Hi,
    I am using Verizon Broadband DSL, and have used it for a few years.
    Equipment:
    Westell Versalink Model 327W
    Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router Model WRT54G
    I have a desktop (running Windows XP), and 2 laptops (1 XP, 1 Vista) that are connected wirelessly. Until recently all 3 computers have been working fine, connecting to the internet on the wireless network.
    The problem is this: When any one of the computers is connected to the internet through the DSL none of the others computers is able to connect – I see the message “Connecting through WAN miniport (PPOE)…”, i.e. I am only able to connect to the internet 1 computer at a time.
    As soon as I disconnect from the ‘connected’ computer (desktop or laptop) I am immediately able to successfully connect to the internet on either of the other 2 computers.
    I’ve tried resetting everything – no luck.
    I don’t recall having changed any of the settings and am baffled.
    Any thoughts as to the problem?
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Charlie
    PS. I haven't called the Verizon DSL Tech Support team yet...but I will soon. I figured on asking here first.

    Ok.
    #1 You must get to the network control panel on your computer.
    One of the ways, for Windows XP is:
    a) Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections
    b) The screen will look like steps 5 and 6, on http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
    For Windows Vista:
    a) Go to the globe icon (start button) -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage Network Connections.
    b) The screen will look like steps 5, 6, and 7, on
    http://portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm
    #2 Right click on the WAN miniport (PPPOE), and remove the check mark that says Set as Default Connection.
    ^^
