Are KPIs only key figures?

Hai All,
KPI(Key performance Indicator). can this be only a key figure or can it be a characteritic also? For example Status of a project.
I appreciate if anybody can clarify this...
Thanks.

Hi,
When we are talking about KPIs, we have to think in Business level. KPIS are indicators which can be used to evaluate the Organization's strentgh and weekeness. So when we compare this with BW objects, the chance for characterstics to be consider as KPI is very very less.
'Status of a project' is mostly not a KPI for high level people of the organization. But the no of complted projects or no of incomplete projects surely becomes as KPI.
And also KPIS are different at different parts of Organization. Some where in the organization, one Issue(either characterstic or KF object in BW)  can become as KPI,But it may not be KPI at other level.

  • Read Only Key Figure in APO DP

    Dear Friends ,
Need help in the mentioned scenario :
One Planning Book with two data views due to change in portfolio say regional manager and area manager .
Key Figure updation of market intelligence by regional manager in his data view to be shown in the data view of the area manager data view but with no access to write on the key figure - market intelligence by regional manager .
    Please support .
    Thanks

    Hi Gurav,
    Answer for your question:
    1. If you want to make key figures as read only then you can goto design mode> select key figure> right click and select output only.
    2. If you want to make seperate roles for both region manager and area manager you need not create two planning books but when you create roles you can assign data views to respective users. ( authorisation object is C_APO_PB, in that data view is APO_DVIEW)
    Hope this helps.

    Jagadeesh.

  • Reports with only key figures?  How to layout?

    Hi anyone,
Could you kindly advise?  I have a financial report which is about 20 key figures ex. Sales, Cash discounts, Revenue from operations, Gross Margin, Operating profit and Overheads % of sales...
For each of these areas I need to have 9 seperate numerical values:
    Actual value (by month)
    Last Year value (by month):
    Budget value (by month)
Actual value ( year to date)
    % of sales (ytd)
    Last year value (ytd)
    Budget value (ytd)
    Full  yr value (full yr)
    Budget value (full yr)
This can lead to 20keyfiguresX9timeperiods = 180 numbers in the report.  As I don't have any characteristics, it seems I'll end up with a very very long row..  Has anyone experience fixing this sort of issue?

    Hi
Sorry for the earlier post for not explaining...
There are two ways you can do.
First way is meddling with the modelling....
Create 9 infoobject charecterisitcs with CHAR TYPE NUM  and feed them with the key figures timeperiods thru update rule routine......Use this 9CHAR -> fed by kfs into Cube and you can use 2 structures...as far as the system is concerned you are using one structure of kf and one for chars.......
Second way...if ur using BEx  you can think of Macros

  • Does Fixing Key figure be part of Planning area?

    Hi,
I saw the post by David and this question popped from there. The answer may be simple but I just want to confirm it.
If I am fixing a key figure A and storing the fixing information in another key figure B. I specify the Key Figure B in Key figure A definition (RSD1) as the fixing key figure.
I also know that both key figures A and B are APO key figures.
Now the question is: Do we need to include both A and B in the planning area and planning book even though I need only key figure A?
    Thanks.

We can wait for more people to respond, however here is my view.
Fixed TS Key Figures actually maintains the fixed component of the primary key figure. It can have its own disagg logic and in most business cases, it will be same as the primary key figure. It needs to be intialized for the same time zone as that of the primary keyfigure which is only possible if both the keyfigures co-exist in a planning area. Figuratively take the Fixed Key Figure as a twin of the primary Key Figure which holds only a certain portion of the primary determined as fixed. The fixing logic will not work correctly if its configuration is not similar to the one of primary.

    Hello,
According to your setting in the palnning area ("do not lock read-only key figures"), if you have set a key figure as "Output Only" in /sapapo/mc8b or by a default macro, then this key figure could not get locked.
It is not allowed to make changes to unlocked key figures. So if there's  a macro that tries to update this key figure, you'll get the error message.
If you have "do not lock read-only key figures" set, you must make sure that your macros do not make changes to those key figures that are output only (read only).

  • Planning using the Non-Cumulative Key figures

    HI,
In my reporting requirement for IP, I need to get some actual values from the cube 0IC_C03. The key figues which I required are 0VALSTCKVAL and 0TOTALSTCK, but these 2 are non-culative key figures. When I selected these 2 key figures in my aggregation level, it is throwing an error message as "InfoObject 0VALSTCKVAL(Version A) is not compounded and Aggregation level is inconsitent".
I read in some document that, it is not possible to use non-cumulative keyfigures in ALVL.
I searched in SDN and SERVICE also, but some documents are saying that, in new path level (19) it is possible. Now I using the path level 18 only. In this case how we have to use these non-cumulative keyfigues,, please sugguest me...
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi
Non-cummulative keyfigures are not supported fro planning and teh error thrown is correct. Please find the help link which gives what are supported and not supported as part of aggregation levels.

  • How to calculate key figure before aggregation for complex formular?

    Hi, buddies
    <b>Here's the simplified senario</b>:
I have a cube, in which the characteristics are 'Calendar Day' and 'Hour' (values are 01~24), and the key figures are stored by day and by hour.
What I need is very simple, a query to display calculated key figures only by Calendar Day. I don't need Hour information.
So I create a query: column charact is Calendar Day, rows are several calculated key figures.
    <b>Now the problem is that</b>:
if I don't put 'Hour' as row in the query, I'll get WRONG result. But if I put 'Hour' as row in the query, I'll get CORRECT result, but all the 'Hour' details will display, which should be hided.
<b>I know the reason is that</b>:
the calculated key figure that I create should be calucated before aggregation, not after. But since the formular is pretty complex, I can't change the 'Time of Aggregation Calculation' in key figure's property. (It's greyed out.) So I have to put 'Hour' as row in the query to force calcuation 'before aggregation' in query and set the property 'Calculate Result As...' as 'Summary'.
    <b>My question</b> is:
whether there's any other way to force calcuation 'before aggregation', so I don't have to put 'Hour' in the query.
If no, is there a simple way to hide the 'Hour' details and only display summary result ON THE QUERY LEVEL? (
<i>I can hide detail lines by using web template, or maybe using VB in excel. But I can't use either of them. I want to hide the details on the QUERY LEVEL. So I can use the query directly in any other reporting tools, like Visual Composer.</i>)
    Any idea?
    Wei

    Hi, Sudeepta
    Thanks for your reply.
I did try to set 'No display' for 'Hour'. The result is that the Characteristics 'Hour' doesn't appear on the query result, but the detailed line of key figures still display on the result. It looks like the followings: (I put summaries on the top/right)
    Date  1/1  1/2  Overall result
    KPI1    10        11   22  (sum line)
    KPI2    20        21   41  (sum line)
    KPI1    12        13   25  (detailed line)
    KPI2    13        13   26  (detailed line)
    KPI1    11        12   23  (detailed line)
    KPI2    12        12   24  (detailed line)
I want to suppress all the detailed lines and leave sum lines on the result.

  • Expand clustered Key Figures in filter panel (based on BW queries)

    Dear colleagues,
in my BW query, I have created several key figures and have clustered them below Error Categorization 1 and 2.
In my Design Studio application I use a filter panel to select the key figures. The goal is to show the first level (error cateogization 1 and 2) at a first view with the option to expand these so that the detailed categories can be shown and selected.
Currently only the subcategories are shown in the filter panel in Design Studio.
    Could you help here?
    Thanks,
    Katharina

Go to transaction RSRT, select your query, click on the properties tab and tick the selection box "Use Selection of Structure Elements". This is recommended practice where there are lots of key figures.

  • Restricted key figure

    HI,
can any body explain me what is the difference between Restricted key Figure and the filter option in BEX reporting.

    Hi Ali,
If you want restrict particuler key figure based on characteristic value, that you have to go for restricted key figure.
For example: You have calender year month data from 2005 to 2006.An dyou have also have sales data for the period.
If you want see the say some feb 2005 to may 2006.
than you can use restricted key figure to see the values.
where as Filter will show the values which you have filtered irrespective of key figure (only characteristic value).
just go throw the below description.
    Hi,
    Restricted key figure:
    Use
You can restrict the key figures of an InfoProvider for reuse by selecting one or more characteristics. The key figures that are restricted by one or more characteristic selections can be basic key figures, calculated key figures, or key figures that are already restricted.
    Procedure
Defining a new restricted key figure
    1. In the InfoProvider screen area, select the Key Figures entry and choose New Restricted Key Figure from the context menu (secondary mouse button).
If a restricted key figure has already been defined for this InfoProvider, you can also select the Restricted Key Figures entry and then choose New Restricted Key Figure from the context menu.
The entry New Restricted Key Figure is inserted and the properties for the restricted key figure are displayed in the Properties screen area.
    2. Select the New Restricted Key Figure entry and choose Edit from the context menu (secondary mouse button.
The Change Restricted Key Figure dialog box appears.
You can also call the Change Restricted Key Figure dialog box from the Properties screen area by choosing the Edit pushbutton.
    Calculated key figure:
    Use
In the Query Designer, you use formulas to recalculate the key figures in an InfoProvider so that you can reuse them. Calculated key figures consist of formula definitions containing basic key figures, restricted key figures or precalculated key figures.
    Procedure
Defining a New Calculated Key Figure
    1. In the InfoProvider screen area, select the Key Figures entry and from the context menu (secondary mouse button click), choose New Calculated Key Figure.
If a calculated key figure has already been defined for this InfoProvider, you can select the Calculated Key Figures entry and, from the context menu, choose New Calculated Key Figure.
The system adds the New Calculated Key Figure entry. The properties for the calculated key figure are displayed in the Properties screen area.
    2. Select the New Calculated Key Figure entry and, from the context menu (secondary mouse button), choose Edit.
The Calculated Key Figure dialog box appears.
You can also call the Change Calculated Key Figure dialog box from the Properties screen area by choosing the Edit pushbutton.
    Formula:
    Use
You can recalculate the key figures in a structure using a formula. You can include basic key figures, restricted key figures, and calculated key figures in the formula definition.
    Procedure
    Defining a Formula
    1. If the query does not yet have a key figure structure, create a New Structure in the Rows or Columns of the Query Designer by highlighting the row or column directory using the secondary mouse button and selecting New Structure from the context menu.
    2. If the structure does not yet contain any key figures, use drag and drop to transfer a (basic) key figure of the InfoProvider into the directory of the new structure.
    3. Select the structure directory, and choose New Formula. The New Formula entry is inserted and the properties for the formula are displayed in the Properties screen area.
    4. Select the New Formula entry and, from the context menu (secondary mouse button), choose Edit. The Change Formula dialog box appears.
You can also call the Change Formula dialog box from the Properties screen area by choosing the Edit pushbutton.

  • Authorization Based on Key Figure in an IP Layout

    Hi,
I have a situvation where there are 5 editable key figures in my IP layout, out of which 4 are open for all users and the other should be editable only for a few users. Can i have that kind of authorization in the same layout, where one key figure is editable bye a few and greyed out for others while they can edit the other 4 key figures. If yes, how do I go about it,
    Thanks
    Rashmi.

    Hi,
You can create authorizations at Key figure level. In analysis authorization RSECADMIN you have to create an authorization and assign characteristic 0TCAKYFNM. Now you can specify the name of the keyfigure as the characteristic value that you want to restict.
But once this authorization is saved this keyfigure will be authorization relevant for every InfoProvider that contains that Key Figure.

  • Cumulative key figures

what are non cumulative key figures?

    Hi,
    Cumulative Key Figure:
Cumulative Values are Keyfigures for which Keyfigure Values are must posted in every time unit that reported on (= time period – specific Values).
    Example:
    Revenue
    Non Comulative key figure:
Non – Cumulative Values are Keyfigures for which KeyFigures are only evaluated for selected time Periods.
    Cumulative Keyfigures With Exception Aggregation:
It's a 'normal' KF (with summation, min or max as aggregation behaviour), but you set some exception in this behaviour...for example, you can say that a KF, normally aggregated by 'summation', have to show the max value (or the average, or '0' or something else), that is the 'exception aggregation' when you use it in combination with 0DOC_DATE (or other char), that is the 'exception aggregation char reference'...in this case OLAP processor give to you the possibility to see your KF with different behaviour depending from you use 0DOC_DATE (in our example, MAX) or something else (SUMMATION).
Non – Cumulative keyfigure with Associated Single Delta:
If you have a stock KF that is fed from only one (other) movement KF that can assume positive and negative sign.
    KF1 (initial) STOCK (non-***.) = 100
    KF2 flow = -30
    KF2 flow = 70
    KF1 (final) STOCK (non-***.) = 140
Non-cumulative key figure with associated in and outflow:
This is the case of 2LIS_03_BF KF stocks fields.
Here, we have the same situation in point 2, but you will have not only ONE flow KF, but TWO, one dedicated to in and another one dedicated to out !
You have to use this scenario if you have no KF that have positive and negative sign, but two KFs each one representing positive (in) and negative (out) logical sign!
    KF1 (initial) STOCK (non-***.) = 100
    KF2 (out))flow = 30
    KF3 (in)flow = 70
    KF1 (final) STOCK (non-***.) = 140

  • Webtemplates - Disply Group Of Key Figures based on the selection criteria

    Hello,
I have a requirement of displaying Kefigures based on the selection criteria in the browser.
Assume that I have Query with the following set of key figures.
    Plan_KF in units CSE
    Actual_KF in units  CSE
    Difference in units CSE
    Plan_KF in units T3
    Actual_KF in units T3
    Difference in units T3
    Plan_KF in units PAK
    Actual_KF in units PAK
    Difference in units PAK
    1) I should have drop down box with values
    CSE
    T3
    PAK
    2) If user selects PAK then query should display only the key figures with units in PAK
    i.e.
    Plan_KF in units PAK
    Actual_KF in units PAK
    Difference in units PAK
If user selects CSE the query should display only key figures
    Plan_KF in units CSE
    Actual_KF in units  CSE
    Difference in units CSE
I tried using the DropDown Box - (not much usefull to select more than one Key Figure)
and CheckBox web items - I have to do multiple selections (Not very much suitable if the Key figures are too many).
    I appreciate your timely help.
    system specifications:
    SAP_BW - 310
    Front-End - 6.20
    Advanced Thanks,
    Ramana

    Hi,
One alternative would be to save two additional copies of the query (each with different units) and code your dropdown box with the RESET_DATA_PROVIDER command.
    So if your queries were:
    Z_QUERY_CSE
    Z_QUERY_T3
    Z_QUERY_PAK
You would define the default unit (I'll assume CSE) in yoru web template, and code your dropdown box entries to switch the Data Provider (I'll asume DP1) to the appropriate query.
The code behind "T3" in your dropdown box would be:
    <SAP_BW_URL DATA_PROVIDER='DP1' CMD='RESET_DATA_PROVIDER' INFOCUBE='Z_CUBE1' QUERY='Z_QUERY_T3'>
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/bd/43143c1ab8ff1ae10000000a11405a/frameset.htm
Two things to look out for in this work-around:
    1) Number of queries increases by a factor of 3
    2) Performance implication in replacing the data provider with a new query.

  • Difference between cumulative and non-cumulative key figures

    Hi,
What is the difference between cumulative and non-cumulative key figures and under what conditions they are used. What is snapshort and where it is used.

    Hi.............
Basically the key figures are of two types cumulative and non cumulative.
Cumulative are the normal one which you use always and they always bring the new values of the key figures in the delta that is if suppose A has value 10 and after change the new value is 20 then you will use cumulative key figures there, and your delta( new value) will bring 20.
but suppose your key figures field only the change in the prior value that is in this case the delta in the key figure value will bring 10 (20-10- change of 10 )as new value in the key figure A then you will have to model it through the non cumulaitve key figures.
    Now
    1) Cumulative is for the first case that is if the key figure alwyas brings the new values of the key figure and not the change sin the key fiures value.
2)NCum. value with NCUM value change:
In this case ther is only one field which brings the changes for a particualr key figure and you ahve to define that key figure as non cumulative.
Ex: In case of stock only one filed brings both ingoing value and outgoing value so 10 ,-4,100,-34.....
In this case you will this option and use the key figure here in the space provided.
    3) In this case you haev two separate key figures one for the inflow of stocks and one for the outflow of the stocks.
you use one key figure for the inflow and one key figure for the outflow.
The main key figure autiomatically takes care of the logic and gives the correct output upon the summation
net value of stocks( inflow- outflow).
Also do remember in this case the key figure for inflow and out flow are the basic key figures that is cumulative key figures.
A non-cumulative is a non-aggregating key figure on the level of one or more objects that is always displayed in relation to time. Examples of non-cumulatives include headcount, account balance and material inventory. here the aggregation of key figure is based on the another info object
There are two different ways to define non-cumulative key figures:
    • Non-cumulative key figure with non-cumulative changes:
Before you can define the non-cumulative key figure, an additional cumulative key figure containing the non-cumulative change must exist as an InfoObject.
    • Non-cumulative key figure with inflows and outflows
There has to be two additional cumulative key figures as InfoObjects for non-cumulative key figures - one for inflows and one for outflows. The cumulative key figures have to have the same technical properties as the non-cumulative key figure, and the aggregation and exception aggregation have to be SUM.
    Features of non-cummulative key figures
    A non-aggregating key Figure.
Records are not summarized for Reporting
Exception Aggregation is being applied on these key figures on the level of one or more info objects usually with time .
Examples: Head Count, Account balance, Material stock
    consider simple senario
Date Net Stock Quantity Sales Revenue
    01.02.2005 40 1000
    02.02.2005 50 2000
    03.02.2005 25 3000
this is the query output if stock quantity has treated as cummulative and non-cummulative key figures
if stock quantity taken as a cummulative key figure
Date NET STOCK QUANTITY SALES REVENUE
    01.02.2005 30 1000
    02.02.2005 50 2000
    03.02.2005 20 3000
    RESULT 100 6000
in the above result the key figure has aggregated to the total value that wont give sense to the net stock quantity
if stock quantity taken as non-cummulative key figure
Date Net Stock Quantity (LAST) Sales Revenue
    01.02.2005 30 1000
    02.02.2005 50 2000
    03.02.2005 20 3000
    RESULT 20 6000
    Hope this helps you..............

  • How to transfer from key figure model into account model?

    Hello,buddies:
If I have a datasource wich upload from FLAT FILE contains only key figures and I know every key figure's meaning, then I want to transfer it into account model.
For example,I have data like this
      training fee salary   compensation
        20000          5000         5678
then I want to transfer this to:
      training fee 20000
      salary       5000
      comp         5678
because the source contains no cost element, and the target contain elements.
       How can I do this?

    Hi Martin,
You can use result table functinality in routines of update rules.
Assuming 0COSTELMNT and 0AMOUNT are the target fields
in your cube, value1, value2, value3 represent fields
form flat file/commstructure code for 0AMOUNT could be like this :
    RESULT_TABLE-Amount = COMM_STRUCTURE-Value1.
    RESULT_TABLE-COSTELMNT = 'training fee'.
    append RESULT_TABLE.
    RESULT_TABLE-Amount = COMM_STRUCTURE-Value2.
    RESULT_TABLE-COSTELMNT = 'salary'.
    append RESULT_TABLE.
    RESULT_TABLE-Amount = COMM_STRUCTURE-Value3.
    RESULT_TABLE-COSTELMNT = 'comp'.
    append RESULT_TABLE.
So you generate 3 records for Infoprovider from one out of commstructure.

  • Assigning a Key Figure in a Multi provider

In a multi provider if I have a key figure which is assigned from more than one part providers.  What does this exactly mean?  For example:
Let's say I have a key figure Number of Sales which is present in two part providers and assigned from both the providers, if I build a query say Country | Number of Sales what happens with the assignment
    Thanks

    Good point.
    My scenario is as follows.
    1. We are building a query which uses a base query as a template.
    2. Our query is built off a seperate multiprovider which replaces one of the part cubes with a cube that has consolidated set of data from SAP and Non SAP systems
    3. In the original multi provider one of the key figures is assigned from two part providers, one of which is that which we are replacing - this key figure is used extensively in the definition of other query level key figures
    4. The key figure does not exist in the consolidated cube but we have a key figure that we will use instead of.
    5. The original query does not have info provider restrictions at the query or local key figure levels
I believe I can sum the two figures when I define the Key figures in the new query but just needed clarity on if this is a solution hence wanted to confirm the values are being summed up assuming no restrictions etc
