Are third party mains adapters safe?

Hey,
I got bought the following adapter (at least I think it's this specific one) by my dad to use on my iPod Nano. He also bought one for my brother, who also has a Nano, and himself, who uses a second generation Touch.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-UK-USB-MAINS-WALL-CHARGER-DATA-CABLE-IPHONE-5-3-3G -3GS-4-4S-IPOD-TOUCH-/320859188228?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_Mob ilePhoneChargers&hash=item4ab4b2ac04#ht_2158wt_841
Mine and my brothers Nano's charge fine with it, though I've only used it the once. My dad's Touch, however, has an on screen message saying something along the lines of 'this device does not support charging', with a yellow triangle and an exclamation mark.
This has made me reluctant to use the charger again, as I'm unsure how safe it is, and don't want to mess up the battery of my iPod, as it's only a week or so old.
So yeah, is the mains adapter safe to use on my Nano, or is it worthwhile me purchasing the far more expensive official version from Apple?
Thanks.

Does your dad's iPod charge okay otherwise when using another cable?
It might not hurt to invest in the Apple branded sync cable as it should work with all of your particular iPod models in your household.

  • SOA Clustering with third party JCA Adapters

    Hi,
We are planning to do clustering for our SOA suite which has third party JCA adapters. Some BPELs inside SOA suite will listen to the third party JCA adatper which will listen to third party system and some bpels are listening to the DB adapter for polling the records in DB.
Say if adapter1 is in node1 is downloading that message from third party system which is big in size and meanwhile if adapter2 in node2 can also start to download the same message which end up in duplicate messages getting download. So in clustering environment, how to make sure that the BPELs wont pick up these duplicate messages from the third party system/ DB where they are listening to it?
(adapter1 and adapter2 are the instances of the same adapter)
Is there any way in BPEL to identify if it is duplicate message which is already processed by the BPEL or not? If not is there any other way?
    Thanks
    Sree

    Thanks for the info.
But the links you provided talks about active-passive cluster configuration. But I am looking for the active-active cluster configuration where I have multiple instances of the JCA adapter running on different nodes. I want to make sure that the message picked up by one JCA adapter instance running on node1 should not be picked by the other JCA adapter instance running on node2.
    Thanks

  • Are third party disk utilities really necessary?

Are third party disk utilities [such as TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior] really necessary on a G5? Does the Apple Disk Utility perform all necessary repair functions?

need a DiskWarrior for sure - buil-in utility is not very powerful for real nasty file corruption.
most important is to back up files regularly to another drive - if drive fails no utility will fix it.

  • Third party mains char

I after a mains charger so i could charge my zen v plus via mains power, i've found one but not sure if its ok to use
    http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/7777.htm
or is there one that you guys have that you can recommend?

The USB connection is supposed to be a standard that is uni'versal, at least in theory, as many manufacturers have strayed from the standards to accommodate their own devices. The power portion though, is generally complied with, so if the wiring is correct, there shouldn't be any harm done to your device.
Secondly, there are so many third party USB chargers coming out of various sources in China, about the only way that you can find out if the one that you purchased will work is to give it a try. It would also be hard to recommend a specific brand of third party charger since the vendor's source could be a changing one, though those from recognized brand name third party vendors are generally tested to some degree so that the company doesn't incur liabilities for damage.

  • What are Third Party Applications??

I just want to know what they are since i'm confused with them... They sound illegal but i've seen them in the apple store as alarm clocks.

    midgetwars wrote:
ohhhh... Thnx so third party apps are every app apart from like 10apps made from apple??
    Yes.
then why would the alarm clock that i have need to say that it is a third party apps and needs to stay open for it to work?
It's probably saying that since it isn't an Apple application, it won't run in the background. However, with the latest update (iOS 4) it may be possible to find an alarm clock app that will be able to run in the background.

  • What are third party alternatives to Ovi Suite

I really like my Nokia E63 Smartphone, and Nokia PC Suite is usable, I'll say no more than that.
Unfortunately its replacement Nokia Ovi Suite, really is a dire application, appearing to have a UI designed by a child, and the coding done by someone committed to an asylum.
Harsh words, indeedy so, but this Ovi Suite really does bring out the worst in a person when to attempt to use it.
Enough has already been written about its short comings, so I won't waste time re-visiting...
My quest is for a suitable third part application that will do the business without the problems.
Searching around I've found two possibles, OxyCube which unfortunately just will not install its required bit on my phone, and MobilEdit which works reasonably well, but has a very dodgy .CSV import capability.
So my question here to the knowledgeable is:
Are there any other third party replacements for the Nokia offering?
    Thanks
    Ax

+1 from me on both looking for a third party app, and loathing the Nokia-as-the-centre-of-the-universe approach to coding.  Nokia 5800.
Had a torrid time with the OVI 3 update which simply doesn't do the sync'ing it promises to do, so rolled back to OVI 2 which gets stuck on insisting that I reinstall (a perfectly functioning) MS Outlook.
Since my Nokia phone is now next to useless through not giving me what I paid for, I'll also start looking at other brands.  Well done Nokia!

  • What are third party apps????

hi everyone, in the 1.1.3 video, he says something about third party apps, what are they.
    thanks
    Message was edited by: iPhone

    iPhone,
The first and second party is Apple (the maker of the device) and you (the customer who uses the device). Right now all the software on the iPhone is from Apple. A third party is anybody besides Apple and you. Most webapps are written by "third-parties", and you can create bookmarks to them.
In late February, there will be a System Developer's Kit which will allow writing third-party "native" applications that can be put on the iPhone will become possible. This link is to the announcement about the SDK:

  • What are third party compatible DVD burners?

I can't seem to find a clear answer to this question: What is a "third party compatible" DVD burner that I can use with iMovie/iDVD?
I don't have an internal DVD burner, so I'm thinking of picking up an external one. Problem is, I don't know which ones will work. Is there a list somewhere?
Do I need a firewire burner or can I use USB 2.0?
    Thanks.

LaCie Firewire External DVD burners are good and they include Toast software.

  • Are third party Microphones compatible?

I noticed the Nano has an integrated voice recording app, which is quite excellent.
Will I be able to plug in third party 3.5mm microphones (Such as the Sony ECM-DS70P or similar) into the nano for recording purposes? It'd be really nice if this new nano could replace my digital recorder for recording my stand up performances.

Firmware is installed, and I've used the Restore feature many times, but still the same thing.
I hate taking my equipment to the Apple store (Arlington,VA) because their techs aren't any smarter than a tech savvy Mac user, and they tend to BS their resolutions.
However, I think I might have to visit them so they can connect it to a laptop, and BS me some more. Hopefully it will start working.

  • CS5 Trial Version: are third party plugins allowed?

I'm just considering an upgrade from Elements on recommendation that CS5 will provide better colour and page size control on my Canon iPF5000 - there is a Canon plugin that supports CS5 (they claim!).
So downloaded the trial CS5 version and installed the Canon plugin according to the docs in ./plugins/import-export. No matter what I do I cannot get Photoshop to list the plugin, so I have no idea if it's actually being recognised or not. Unfortunately Canon don't seem to provide any documentation, so I've no idea what to expect.
I've been told that trial versions don't support plugins - is this correct?
    OS is 10.5.

The trial does support third party plugins.
If the plugin is not written for 64 bits, then it will only be available if you switch Photoshop to run in 32 bits addressing mode.

  • EtherCAT Error -2147138468 switching third party device to Safe Operational State

I have been successful in importing and detecting/adding a Lenord + Bauer Ethercat Encoder (GEL235).
Attached you will find the Device Profile.
But when I try to switch the Scan Engine to "Active", I eventually receive this error message: "An error occured while attempting to switch the I/O scan mode. LabVIEW: (Hex 0x80DF0019) The deployment connection timed out."
Trying to set the device EtherCAT Online State to "Safe Operational" on the slave device eventually returns "Error -2147138468 occurred at an unidentified location Possible reason(s): CoE operation fails because the CoE service is timeout. Ensure that each device in the EtherCAT network is powered on and properly connected."
I can confirm that the device is properly powered and connected. The EtherCAT ethernet port on the cRIO has a solid, green link indicator and all status indicators on the encoder are in their normal operational state except for the "Run" led which is flashing evenly, meaning the current state is "PRE-OPERATIONAL".
I can read the encoder position without any issues using "TwinCAT System Manager" from Beckhoff.
Any idea/tips on how I should proceed from this point to troubleshooting/fix the issue?

  • XML processing conform to Certification of Third-Party XI-Adapters

We are developing a XI-Adapter which needs xml processing. Actually we use some xml tools to process xml document, but we read in the document named  NW_XI_AF_certification_catalog_2.0.pdf that some requirement are not met, such as
    1. If the adapter must be able to parse XML documents, do you use the SAP J2EE XML parser libraries?
the answer is no, we use jdom and other ways to handle xml.
QA1: Is it a must and only way to use SAP J2EE XML parser libraries if want to pass the certification
QA2: The topic named "Using DOM4J in XI - A More Sophisticated Option for XML Processing than SAP XML Toolkit" available at /people/amjad-ali.khoja/blog/2006/02/07/using-dom4j-in-xi--a-more-sophisticated-option-for-xml-processing-than-sap-xml-toolkit
If do as the passage shows, will the adapter pass the certification
QA3: Now we package all the tools we use in the sda package and deploy on the SDM, and it works too, what is the difference between package the util tools for process xml(*.jar) in sda and copy them to the corresponding j2ee dir and bin dir as shown in the passage listed

I think an SAP man should answer here, but my common sense and SAP knowledge suggests me:
    A1: yes, evidently
A2: the fact that DOM4J is quoted in a weblog doesn't mean it's officialy supported by SAP, it's  just an option, just like Apache Xerces and others. You can use them in interface dev, it's up to you, but an Adapter is a completly different story: SAP wants to make sure it has full control over a Certified Adapter, and the only way to do that is to have full control on the additional libraries that this Adapter uses. SAP can have this control on SAP XML Toolkit, but not on DOM4J or Xerces, obviously.
A3: no difference, except that logically and pragmatically is much more convenient to package and deploy everyhting your stuff needs in order to work properly.

  • Third-party chip OSX safe??

I have an original imac bondi blue that I upgraded with a Newer Technologies chip (466Mhz) years ago with ZERO troubles. I have also upgraded it to 374Mg of RAM, a 40GB hard drive and an extra 6Meg of video memory.
My question is: does anyone have any experience or knowledge of whether or not that chip will accept the firmware update required for the OSX upgrade??
    Thanks, let me know.
    kt
iMac bondi :: dual USB ibook   Mac OS 9.2.x

Yep. Here it is, straight from the Read Me Before You Install:
    Hardware compatibility issues
Installing on a PowerBook G3, an original Power Macintosh G3, or an iMac
If you install Mac OS X on a PowerBook G3 Series computer that does not have USB, an original Power Macintosh G3 (Beige), or a Rev. A, Rev. B, Rev. C, or Rev. D iMac, and the hard disk is larger than 8 GB with more than one partition, be sure to select a destination partition for Mac OS X that is completely within the first 8 GB of the disk.
The requirement has nothing to do with doing the firmware update. It has been a requirement for installing OS X on certain older models.
It's easy to partition the drive:
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu to two. Resize the topmost partition in the sizer window so it's equal to 7.85 GBs. The other partition will resize automatically to the remainder of the hard drive space. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
Once the partitioning is completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with the installation. When you get to the screen for selecting a destination volume, select the smaller sized volume you created as the target.
