ARIS Report

I am an ARIS user would like to know how do I run a report for a particular model, and what types of reports do we get.
Mercia

Hi, I have a small question..
In an VACD Diagram... Say we have 5 objects linked together with 4-5 Processes per Object...
1->2->3->4->5
So, here, when we want to make 3 out of scope.. then it is typically greyed.. along with the processes in it..
So, how do we grey this..Please help me if you have any idea or worked on this scenario before..
Thanks
Vinni..

  • Scope of simulation in BPA suite

    Hi,
What is the scope of simulation in BPA suite.
    * If we provide processing time and/or cost involved in each fuctional lock, then while simulation, we can get an analysis based on this.
    * Simulation can identify few weak points in your business process. But how is a weak point identified. Any rule available for this?
Apart from this what is the significance of Simulation in BPA. Can it provide any other useful inference or suggestion, that can help improving the process.
    Thanks,
    Vishnupriya

    Hi Vishnupriya,
"how do we find the critical path using BPA suite." You can perform a cost and/or a time analysis - it depends on your preferences. A disadvantage of the cost analysis is, that the cost attributes can only be defined for functions. It is not possible to specify relation-dependent costs (e.g. different costs if a function is performed by a manager or a clerk). Below I am concentrating on a time analysis.
    a) Identify bottlenecks
After you performed the simulation you need to analyse the statistics. Each object type has its own simulation attributes - check the help section under "What simulation-relevant object types exist" to get further information. For comparison the following categories/attributes are very useful indicators to identify bottlenecks:
    * Processes (cumul.): Created processes, Completed processes, Process folders in static wait state and Process folders in dynamic wait state
    * Events (cumul.): Activations
    * Functions (cumul.): Process folders in dynamic wait state
    * Processes (det.): Throughput time (min.), Throughput time (max.)
Hint: Increasing throughput times, high dynamic wait time sums and a high degree of utilization (for human resources) are indicators of bottlenecks.
    b) Identify modeling faults
E.g.: If you have a gateway in your model and the "Process folders received" is always equal to "Process folders waiting" it means that the gateway cannot be passed. Normally it indicates a deadlock situation and you should check that each split in your model is properly joined. The issue can also be considered at the "Degree of activation", which will be equal to zero. Use the semantic check to ensure that your model-format is correct.
"how to do this comparison"Compare the relevant attributes (times, costs) of your As-Is and To-Be models. You have several options to perform the comparison:
    a) create charts of both simulation runs
    b) check the simulation statistics of both simulation runs
    c) use the ARIS report functionality or create a user-defined report to extract the simulation results

  • ARIA Employee Directory -How to Print Multiple Direct Report On a page

This question goes out to the experts. If we have person that has 10,15 or a large number of direct reports how can we print them on to a page so that they all fit. I am okay if they fall to another line just need to get them all on one page rather than multiple because they fall outside the print parameters?
All help in this area would be greatly apprecaited
    Steve

Maybe. Keep in mind HTML was never made for print. It's quite possibly the worst medium you could choose for print. You won't be able to establish page breaks or even draw consistent boxes. In short, I estimate the probability of success in creating an org chart with an HTML template to be somewhere around 1%. I just don't want to see you spend an absurd number of hours trying to build something that's really not possible.
With that said, here are a few options to consider:
    - Microsoft Word and Visio both have Org Chart functionality, though I'm not sure if you can populate it with data from a database. This would be an offline solution wherein one of the developers would, on a periodic basis, generate a new version of the org chart, export it to PDF, then post it as a static file.
    - Oracle BI Publisher supports Word shapes for templates, including Org Charts per this documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12844_01/doc/bip.1013/e12187/T421739T481157.htm#T481174
though I think it might take effort to get the template to work. At least the output medium (PDF or RTF) is made for print.
    - GraphViz (http://www.graphviz.org) is the most promising online solution I can think of. It's a command-line tool, so you would need to
-- generate the data in a file and output that to the file system of the database server (UTL_FILE)
-- call the command-line utility via a dbms_scheduler job, since you need call an OS utility from inside the database
-- provide a link to the output of graphviz.
Take a look at this image, then click on it to see the code that generated it, since that's essentially the format you'll need to output:
    http://www.graphviz.org/Gallery/directed/unix.html
There's my 2 cents. If someone is asking you to do this all in HTML, please send them a link to this post.

    Hello,

  • Checkbox in an Updatable Report

How can I use a checkbox to display checked for 'T' and unchecked for anything else in a report based on an SQL Query?
How can I use the checkbox in the report to set the value in the field in the table in an MRU?
Can this be done the same way as if I used a Text Field, as opposed to some extra coding to make it work?
    Thanks all,

Thanks Arie. I was really hoping there was a simpler way, but apparently not. Vikas put it quite succinctly in:

  • Report Engine enhancements in Future Apex version considrations.

    Hi Apex Team,
Just want to stressed and support Arie's point below which he brought up in another thread:
    /Quote
There are other areas that IMHO needs the attention of the team, much much more then the UI.
First and foremost, the report engine.
Everyone following this forums knows that printing issues are the least to be answered and solved.
Printing PDF is great, but the content of the reports are much more important.
Report break issues, master details report, and many others are very important issues that need to be address.
The BI publisher is a great tool, but it’s a very expensive one (corporate level).
More simple, built in solutions for hard copy reports (not PDF but simple hard copy printing) is much more important,
IMHO, then almost anything else on the enhancement request list.

    Hi,
We are in the midst of migrating our applications from VB/VC to Apex and in our applications, reports account for :
    1. User  -  30% - 50% of overall application's functionalities in their daily usage.
This requires mostly hard copy with report's breaks, master details reports.
    2. Supervisory / Middle Management -  40% to 70%.
Prefer 20% to 30% of reports in PDF.
    3.Top Level Management - 70% to 95%.
Prefer most reports in PDF with flash charts where applicable.
Majority of our customers are not considering BI for PDF as costs are too high,
fortunately Apex has other alternatives which we are reviewing currently.

  • SQL Query (report region) without full page reset

    Hello,
I have a page with several items, some of them with default values, and a report region, performing SQL query based on one of the items – text field (always submits page when Enter pressed). When the page submits, the HTML DB engine performs and display the query, but at the same time, reset the other page items to their default values.
Is it possible to run the query without the HTML DB reset the item values to their default state?
    Thanks,
    Arie.

    Hi Peter,
Well, this is not exactly the case. I have an Item – File Browse – which defined as "Only when current value in session state is null", and a HTML text region, which contain Iframe, with default src tag (which I'm changing, using JavaScript, prior to the running of the SQL query). After running the query – in a report region – both the item and the Iframe reset to their original state.
Any Ideas on how to prevent that?
    Thanks,
    Arie.

  • No Data Found In APEX report

    Hello All
I am new to APEX and have a problem. I have created several reports in APEX that allow users to extract data into Excel. However, one report says that No Data is Found in excel although data appears when report is run. Hope I am making my self clear.

    Arie,
in my case I must have hit a bug (still using Application Express 2.2.1.00.04): I observed this "no data found" issue, and worked around it by just disabling CSV export in the report settings and re-enabling it again afterwards.
I don't quit understand why we need to apply procedures likes those described in http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=31517:117 : shouldn't a CSV export simply work when the corresponding report is non-empty?

  • Report Row Template - header

    Hi
I have made a custom "Report Row Template". I have write the "header" direct in the html code. Is that a problem if i want to translate the application? Is there a way how to use the headers from the apex?
    Best Regrads
    Jesper Vels

    Hello Jesper,
OK, I can see now what you are trying to do. Unfortunately, the only similar example I'm familiar with - http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:108 – Is also using hard coded text for the headings.
I can show you how to get to these headings, and how to use them on your template, but I'm afraid this is not a generic solution, as I couldn't find an active substitution string for the column headers.
As there isn't any variables to hold these column names, we need to define our own. You can do that using an application items or hidden page items. Let's say I defined three hidden items on my report page: P1_HD1, P1_HD2, P1_HD3. Each item will be defined with Source Type of SQL Query, and Source Use of "Only when …". The Source Value for the first item will be as follow:
    select  heading
    from  FLOWS_020200.APEX_APPLICATION_PAGE_RPT_COLS
    where  APPLICATION_ID=:APP_ID and
           PAGE_ID=:APP_PAGE_ID and
DISPLAY_SEQUENCE = 1;The DISPLAY_SEQUENCE should change according to the sequence of the column.
If you choose to use an application items, you'll need to use a before header computation on your report page, with the same query, to populate the application items.
In order to use these items in the report template, we need to use the "&P1_HD1." notation. You can have something like this, for the first header in your report query:
    <tr><td>&P1_HD1.: </td><td>#1#</td>   . . .Hope this helps,
    Arie.

  • How to accessing current row report column value in Lov Query?

    Hi,
which access methods (eg. bind variables, substitutions, ...) for getting the current row report column value can be used in the "Lov Query" property of a report column?
As what I know of and what I have read on the forum there are no bind variables for the report columns. For the "Link Text" property it seems that the column values exist as substitution strings (#COLUMN_NAME#). But they don't work in the Lov Query. => And would be good because of a hard parse each time the Lov query is executed.
The following post (Re: Simulating a correlated sub query in lov
is showing a solution to use package variables for temporary storage of the referenced value, but the only problem with that solution is that if a new record is added with the "Add rows to tabular form" process the package variable still contains the value from the last queried row! Is there a way (variable, APEX package, ...) to determine if the lov query is executed for a new record so that the package can return null?
I know that I could write the package in a way that the value is immediately cleared when lov_pkg.keyval is called (one time read), but then I would have to create several variables if I'm accessing the value multiple times in the query or in another query => I think an one time read solution would be very obscurely.
    Thanks for your help
    Patrick
    http://inside-apex.blogspot.com

    Hi Patrick,
I agree that it's a waste to continually use Ajax to go back to the server to get the contents of a dynamic select list.
There are no bind variables for any row item - but what you do have, as per my previous post, is the value of the data entered by the user in the first row. You can pass this into your application process (using get.add("VARIABLENAME", value)), which can use it to retrieve the correct LOV in your Ajax code - this will give you a "bind variable" that your process can use.
What you could do, however, is generate hidden select lists on your page - one for each possible LOV list and replace the contents of the new row's select list with the contents of the appropriate hidden select list. This is easy to do with javascript (using innerHTML functions). Obviously, though, the usefulness of this depends on the number and size of the select lists.
Even if you don't generate them to start with, you can keep a copy of any select lists returned by Ajax in the DOM for use on new rows. So, if you have retrieved a select list, you will have a copy of it in DOM which you can then copy into the new row. If you don't have the list in DOM, use Ajax to get it, store a copy of it and copy it into the new row.
Which method you use will depend on the number/size of select lists needed. If they are few in number and/or size, I would suggest generating hidden lists. If they are large, use Ajax to get them once, store them and then retrieve them from the DOM when needed.
There is another thread here where Arie recommends going to the server every time to make sure you get the most up-to-date data for the lists. If you want to follow this advice, for this reason, use get.add("VARIABLENAME", value) to pass the value to your process. If this is not an issue, you can use one of the other methods I outlined above.
    Regards
    Andy

  • Report formatting/sorting issue

    Hi,
Here is something I spent a whole day on, and still can't figure out.
I have a simple SQL report, which is supposed to show estimated and actual expenses and the variance between the two. The trick is that whenever the variance is positive, the numbers should be green and whenever it is negative - the numbers should be red and NO MINUS SIGN should be shown. For example, if the variance is "-15", then a red "15" should be shown.
The report query is as follows:
    SELECT
    region,
    estimate,
    actual,
    (estimate - actual) AS variance,
    (CASE
WHEN (estimate - actual)>=0 THEN 'green'
WHEN (estimate - actual)<0 THEN 'red'
    ELSE NULL
    END) AS variance_color
    FROM
    expenses
And then the following HTML expression is used for the Column Formatting on "variance" field (sorry for double "<<" and extra spaces - I could not figure out how to format text for this posting):
    << span style = " color : #VARIANCE_COLOR# ; font-weight : bold ; ">#VARIANCE#<< / span>
All works quite well and I get the colors right, but I still have the minus sign on the negative numbers. If I use "ABS(estimate - actual) AS variance" in my query, I certainly can get rid of it, but then sorting does not work properly, since negative numbers are treated as positive.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Constantine

    Hello Constantine,
    >> If I use "ABS(estimate - actual) AS variance" in my query, I certainly can get rid of it, but then sorting does not work properly, since negative numbers are treated as positive
    Please try the following:
    SELECT
    region,
    estimate,
    actual,
    '<input type="hidden" value="'||(estimate-actual)||'">'||
    abs(estimate - actual) AS variance,
    (CASE
WHEN (estimate - actual)>=0 THEN 'green'
WHEN (estimate - actual)<0 THEN 'red'
    ELSE NULL
    END) AS variance_color
FROM expensesThe trick is to add to the column a hidden prefix with the real value of the column, and then concatenate it with the visible value. As the sort order is determine by the beginning of the column – the hidden prefix in our case – you can enjoy both worlds – maintain a correct sorting order while displaying only positive colored numbers.
    >> sorry for double "<<" and extra spaces - I could not figure out how to format text for this posting)
You should use the forum tags *&#91;code]* and *&#91;/code]* .

  • How to Print the Report Column headers on each page of any report

Can someone offer assistance on how I can go about achieving the ability to show and print the Report Column headers on each page of any report using the Print Attributes of APEX 3.0? These reports will be printed using Excel and Word.
I read a thread with a similar request but the answer seems vague for my level of understanding.
I am connected to a print server and using BI Publisher.
    Thanks,
    Ric

    Hello Ric,
    >> These reports will be printed using Excel and Word.
I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to do. You are using a very powerful tool – BI Publisher – why do you need Excel or Word for printing? Is there a special need only Excel or Word can provide?
One of the major advantages of using BI Publisher is that it's taking care of all these tedious tasks like reasonable page breaking, headers and footers, and also table headers.

  • Report template substitution strings?  (APEX 2.2.0)

    Hi all,
I am trying to customize a report template. I would like to know if there is a way to get the sort link that goes into the column headers. The next page and previous page links have the #LINK# substitution string. #COLUMN_HEADER# doesn't give me enough flexibility.
Would I have to use a named column template for this? (I don't have much idea what that is. I read about it on Scott Spendolini's blog entry on "Click in a Row".)
    Cheers!

    Hello,
    >> I could using JavaScript rewrite the column header to be what I want after the page renders, but I'd rather it show up the way I want in the first place
Can you be more specific about what is it that you want? The report engine allows you to use custom headings. Can’t that feature help you achieve what you want?
    >> Is there a list of the substitutions strings that are available to the column header?
The substitution strings you see on the templates populated by the APEX engine with snippets of code you can’t control. You can define your own substitution strings, in the application definition page (under shared components), set them with the code you need, and use them throughout the application, including in templates. The way to use them is a bit different – instead of the “#STRING# syntax, you need to use the “&STRING.” Syntax.

    Arie.
