Arranging photos in large album

I am trying to arrange photos in a large (600+ photos) album. Moving a photo a small distance works ok, just drag and drop. But if the destination is several screens away, the auto-scroll accelerates rapidly to go so fast that it is impossible to stop near the desired location.
Cut and paste seems not to work for moving photos around within an album either, as paste always put them at the bottom.
Any suggestions? I figure I must be missing something, because this is such a basic organizing function, and I find no one else complaining about it.
Thanks, SW
P.S. The auto-scroll speed should, it seems to me, reset to slow when the cursor is moved back into the thumbnail window, but it remains at hyper-speed making control impossible.

There really is no fix for this, I’m afraid. Personally, I found that I could - with practise - use a kind of looping movement to get to the target roll. Later versions have Flagging, so you can flag the pics you want to move then select the target roll (or Event) and simply use a menu command to move the flagged photos there.

  • How to arrange photos in an album, PE11

I am unable to find how to arrange photos in an album in PE11. Anybody have an idea?

When you have selected an album, look at the menu 'Sort by', next to the 'All media' button. Set it to 'Album order'. Then you can select (highlight) one or several items and move them around in the browsing space.
Note that PSE11 is missing the alphabetical sort order (that has been introduced in PSE12).

  • How does one re-arrange photos in an Album?

I made an album of photos, have edited all pics, and now want to re-arrange them, but cannot find a way to do so. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

While viewing the photos in the album go to the View menu in the toolbar and select Sort ➙ XXXX (pick your option).
However, if you drag a photo in an album to another location the sort will be automatically changed to Manual.

Can I arrange photos with an album by title? Is there a "Sort By" feature in Pictures? Is so, how?

Also unchecking the Keep Sorted by Date option will let you sort them manually.

  • Arranging photos in Revel.

I would just like to say that I really hope the Revel designers/engineers decide to - ASAP please!!! - create a function whereby we users can custom arrange photos (library and albums) in whatever order we would like. So far, that is the only function I can see that is making Revel less than perfect for viewing and sharing photos. Instead of providing a button where we can immediately print photos with Walgreens (does anyone still go to Walgreens??), please make a function where we can CUSTOM arrange our photos. From what I can tell this issue hasn't been addressed since last year (2013)….well….we're in the middle of 2014 now…. Um, 'nuf said.

If you set “Keep All Originals” set to On on your mac (the default setting),  your revel photos are stored in two places: the cloud and the hard drive. The backup file on your Mac can be found at:   (/Users/<username>/Pictures/Adobe Revel/Adobe Revel Library.rvl)
(right-clickon the file and select open package contents to get to the photos)
You can disable Keep all Originals if you know you have your originals stored safely elsewhere, or if you don’t have enough disk space on your Mac to accommodate all photos.

I have recently purchased an IPad Air. This comes with "IPhoto" as well as it's usual photo App. I do not have a Mac, instead I am syncing it to my windows PC. Is there any way of actually moving a picture around, (arranging photos in a single album), in either of these apps???? They claim to be able to "Organize"  or "arrange" Photos, but for the life of me I can't figure out how......could you recommend any apps that actually allow someone to move individual photos around on an IOS Device.

No, reordering within folders and albums is not supported. the yare arranged automatically by date. I found this, but I have not used any of the apps besides iPhone. You might check the descriptions to see if they do what you need.

How do I arrange photo albums by date like the old iPhoto?
You can only arrange albums by name or manually. So you would have to make the data a part of the name, if you want to sort by date. It might help to group the albums in folders by year or so.

  • How to sort photos in an album by filename?

I have imported 273 photos into an album in Photoshop Elements Organizer.  They originally came from 2 different digital cameras, so the date stamp on them is different.  All the photos were combined and sorted by filename before they were imported.  I want to keep them in this order for creating a DVD.  The Media Browser Arrangement indicates you can sort by date (oldest or newest) or Album.  I have searched the Help topics until my eyes are ready to pop out of my head and have spoken with support (for 45 minutes) until we got disconnected.  Help!!!

This approach has worked in many versions of Photoshop Elements for making an Album based on file name within a single Windows folder - but I can't say for sure about version 8.
Since you say they were combined and sorted by filename, I am guessing that you have all of those photos in a single Windows folder.
So try switching to the Folder Location view of the thumbnails, navigate to that Windows folder within the PSE Organizer left side of the screen foldeer structure and verify that the photos are displaying in name sequence within that folder.
Using the Folder Location view (where the photos are displaying in name sequence), select those photos and add them to a newly created PSE Album from their display under the Folder Location view.
Another consideration -looking ahead to your actions
You mention burning to a DVD - if this will be a slideshow burned to a standard definition video DVD for TV playback, I wonder what resolution those photos are? For example, were they from a 5 megapixel camera or a 12 megapixel camera ?
The dilemma is that the resolution of your photo files could be too high for processing 273 photos to make the slide show. If you will be burning a standard definition video DVD from Premiere Elements, there is a recommendation to have the photo files used for the slide show be a resolution of approximately 1000x750 pixels (or equivalent adjustment if you will do widescreen).   In a way this is the opposite of printing where if the resolution is too low, the print quality will be poor. For slideshows written to video DVD, too high a resolution stresses the process of making the video and can either reduce quality of image in the final video or cause crashes.
If you will be burning to a Bluray DVD or displaying on a computer monitor , then the resolution should be somewhat higher - but a 12 MP camera will still give too large a resolution.  The Process Muliple Files function in the PSE Editor or the File > Export new file in the Organizer provide methods to take your entire folder of photo files and create "downsized" resolution files that are written to a different folder so that your current files are untouched.

  • Viewing one photo at a time and adding that photo to an album

Typically I import photos from my camera into events, and then I take the best photos from the event and put them into an album named after that "event"
To do this quickly, I usually want to see the photo full screen (I just double click on a photo in an event and click next to browse)to check for quality, and then drag that photo to the album. For some reason you can't drag the single photo you're viewing to an album?
Any ideas? I hate having to open the photo, look at it, close it, then drag it to the album

Since you can't drag a photo when viewing in the large mode you can try the following:
1 - make sure the Info drawer on the right side is displayed.
2 - click on a photo and hit the Space bar.
3 - click on the Full Screen button at the lower left.
Now you're in full screen mode with the Info drawer at the right.
4 - either set the rating of the photo to one that you can use to group in a smart album (Command-1 for 1 star, Command-2 for 2 starts, etc.) or add a keyword that can also be used to group the photos in a smart album.
5 - use the right or left arrow keys on the keyboard to move to the next or previous photos.
6 - when complete go to the smart album and drag the photos into a regular album.

  • Is there any reason photos in an album page display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?

Is there any reason photos in an album page created in iweb display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?

there are three displays in photos page:
    1) thumbnails grid - smallest
    2) deatial view and detail view slideshow - large
    3a) pop-up slideshow - vary - this is slideshow.html
    3b) or iphone/ipad slideshow phoneshow.html - iphone/ipad can't do pop-up
it's difficult to know which you refer to.
if you refer to pop-up slideshow then you should not look into iwebmediagrid.js as wyodor suggested.
instead look in phoneshow.html and change width and heigth of element id slideshow:
    #slideshow {
    position: relative;
width: 320px; /* this is default width */
height: 360px; /* this is default height */
    margin-left: auto;
    margin-right: auto;
    overflow: hidden;

how to arrange photos in camera roll datewise its not showing datewise please let me know

    Emile
Bear with me a minute. You're confusing a lot of things.
    1. As Larry says, on Windows you are using a File Manager for you your photos. All well and good if it works for you, but limited. Why? Because it doesn't leverage any of the extra information available with photos files. Essentially, a File Manager doesn't distinguish between a photo nd a Word file or a Music file. They are just files.
    2. Photo Managers like iPhoto (Or Picasa, Aperture, Lightroom et al) work differently. They are designed to leverage the additional information available in the photo file. Case in point: Date. In the File Manager you have folders created for Year/Month/Day. In iPhoto the pics are grouped into Events automatically. These Events are based on the date and time the Photos were taken, and which is recorded in the Exif metadata for the photo file.
As we all know, when one downloads pictures from a camera, their"names" appear as a bunch of letters and the number indicating thesequence.
These are Filenames assigned by the Camera. In iPhoto you don't change Filenames you edit Titles. Titles are quite independent of filenames and are an entry in the Exif metadata.
I'm not sure what you've done in the renaming sequence, but iPhoto does not have a Sort -> by Name command. There is a Sort By Title command.
But you would not use Events for this job anyway. You would use an Album. Create an Album, drag the pics to it and then you can sort them in any order you want, manually. Then using the Batch Change Command you can create a sequence for them. So, Title the pics 'House Sale' and check the box to append  number and the result:
House Sale 01, House Sale 02 etc

  • How can I keep the order of photos in an album when I upload it to Flickr?

When I share an iPhoto album on Flickr, the order of the photos in my album is lost. Apparently Flickr uses the photo date, but that defeats all the manual arranging I have done in my album. How can I preseve the photo order on upload?
Also, the description of each uploaded photo appears in small print and not in the main Flickr label box. This means the description cannot be seen if a photo is viewed in full screen mode. How can I automatically transfer the iPhoto descriptions to the main Flickr label boxes?
Is there a better way to share iPhoto albums on the Web (Picasso)?

I'm glad you found a solution
For for others and you in the future it is important to understand
Albums are a way to VIEW photos in your desired order within iPhoto - the photos do not have any order (in fact they are in files scattered essentially randomly accross your hard drive)
When you move the out of iPhotoand view them in another program that program determines teh order they are viewed in
An easy to see an example is the finder - files exported from iPhoto and viewed via the finder can be viewed in many different sort orders including name, date created, date modified, size, kind and label - none of these have any relation to the order the photos were in the album UNLESS you cause that to happen (like by exporting using sequential file names so teh finder name sort matched the album order) - the order you see photos in is totally determined by the program you are using to view them - if you understand how it views them then you may be able to export them so that the destination program view martches the iPhoto view
To make suggestions to Apple re exporting to Flickr (or any other outsidside service) -  iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback - and to make suggestiont to thrid party suppliers like the Picasa export plugin contact the developer of that plugin

  • EVENTS : Arranging Photos in an Event Manually

I have imported about 8000 photos and they are sorted in separate events. I would like to re-arrange the order of some of the photos in the events manually but when I try to do this via "sort photos", the manual option is greyed out and it won't let me do it anyway via drag and drop.
    1) Why is this?
    2) Can I actually change the order of photos within an event manually?
    3) Do you have to create an additional album for each event which duplicates the event in order to re-arrange photos within an event?
    Help!

    No

No matter what you can not rearrange photos within events manually - you can rearrange photos in albums
You can move photos between events, split events, and combine events
Events are the most basic automatic organization - most people use faces, places and keywords with smart albums for their organization beyond the time based events

  • How to preserve titles and arrangement of pix in albums

Recently I created an iPhoto book; no problem. Then, without problems, I sent to iDVD: a slide show version of the book and also the photos in the album I'd used to create the book (using the "share" menu to send photos (that creates another slide show of just the photos).
Then I added to the DVD-ROM Content area of the DVD (using the "advanced" menu)
a PDF of the book; no problem.
My problem arose when I wanted to add to the DVD-ROM content area of the DVD a folder containing the book photos (so people could download the individual pictures). I created the folder but when I tried to export the photos (from the album that I had used to make the book) all the titles and arrangement changed. The titles are different from the titles in the album and in the library. The arrangement is alphabetical.
I would like the titles and arrangement of the pictures in that folder (in the DVD-ROM content area) to match the ones in the album.
    Ideas?
    Claire Bettag

    Here's what you can do:
Go back and add a leading number to all the pics:
    001 Picture Name
    002 Picture Name
    003 Picture Name
Then export using the Title as filename
That's the only way you can defeat the Finder's Alphabetical Sorting.
