Hi Dirk,
The ar utility comes as part of package SUNWbtool, from what I can
gather. Please check to see that this package is installed:
pkginfo -l SUNWbtool
The package can be located on main SOlaris CD or Solaris Software CD 2 of 2 and added in the normal way with pkgadd.
I also would have expected, like yourself, that this package should
be installed as part of the Developer Cluster. I will have a look into
this to confirm/verify this.
I hope that this helps,
Regards

Did a rebuild with current patches, did not run JASS or an in-house hardening script on the nodes and I get the same result.
I think I might have a bug issue with the bge driver or something.
On the first node before running scinstall all nic lights are lit.
After that first node reboots from scinstall the nic lights stay lit until right before the CMM messages begin appearing on the console. At that point the interconnect lights go out and stay out physically.
No errors were detected with sccheck or in the install logs for the cluster.
I tried a rebuild of the cluster nodes using a switch (ProCurve 2626) for the interconnects rather than an ethernet cable or cross-over cable.
I have a hme interface in my V210 and V240 and I am going to use that for one of the interconnects to see if it matters.
Basically at this point it is definitely not something physical (bad cable, bad switch port, etc) but something in the cluster configuration from scinstall that is not digging the interconnects and keeping the cluster nodes from conversing.
Since the cluster isn't working anyway I can do a clintr enable node:port,switch@port and see that the ports and switch ports show as enabled by clintr status does not show an interconnect active and the physical ports are not lit.
I do see references to bgeX/0 unregistered in /var/adm/messages but I haven't found information as to what this means or what to do about it exactly yet.

I don't think the test-scsi command is viable for that platform.
The FC disks are "viewed" by the system as external to the SCSI controller, almost as if they were in a multi-pack.
They are FC drives addressed by the chipset as SCSI disks.
    Try:
    <pre>probe-scsi-all</pre>
    Edit:
Which release of Solaris 10 are you trying to install?
Older releases that might be fine for V480's won't work on V490's.

  • Cannot create solaris 10 zone with flar archive

    Hello,
i'm trying to configure a solaris zones with a flar archive of a solaris 10 system.
i've followed the procedure described here : http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/content/submitted/branded_zones_flash.jsp
whenever i try to create a zone and use: set brand=solaris10 the commit will fail with Unknown brand Missing document.
solaris version is Solaris 10 5/08 s10s_u5wos_10 SPARC and i have both the Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 container software installed.
is there another way to install a zone with the native brand or solaris 10 using an archive of some sort?
    kind regards,

    Thanks,
I've figured as much as using a whole root zone but i still struggle with the configuration of a solaris10 brand and the creation of a zone config with that brand.
I might be bettor of installing the zone without the flar image and try to copy the needed files and applications to the zone.
I only need the solaris10 brand zone to test the flar image so i can use it to restore the system with flar and jumpstart.

  • Root RAID-1 support totally broken in Solaris 10

Has anyone else noticed yet that support for recovery of a RAID-1 on the root partition is totally broken under Solaris 10? While one can set up a set of RAID-1 partitions for /, swap and /export/home under Solaris 10 in the same manner as Solaris 9 and the resulting RAID-1 is functional, its recovery process is not! If you power down the machine and remove one of the IDE drives making up the RAID-1 (each on their own IDE bus of course), the machine will kernel panic as expected on bootup. However unlike Solaris 9 which allows you to still login to delete the metastat database from the missing drive, Solaris 10 immediately reboots the machine upon the kernel panic. This makes the use of RAID-1 not only non-functional but actually dangerous since it doubles the chance that you will have a drive failure which will make the machine unbootable. Back to Solaris 9 for me.
    Jack

I think you've been unfortunately hit by:
6215065 Booting off single disk from mirrored root pair causes panic reset
I'm currently in progress of putting a fix into the current development
release and backporting it to s10 asap which will be available via
    a ufs patch eventually

  • Equivalent of sys/ptrace.h on Solaris 10

    HI,
We are using the <sys/ptrace.h> as par to our shell scripts. This file, <sys/ptrace.h> is supported both on Linux and Solaris 8.
But somehow it's missing in Solaris 10 and I heard it's supported. Is it true??
Please could somebody who has worked on this provide what could be the alternative to this.
    Thanks for you time.

#prstat -a will show you the top processes, while use /usr/ucb/ps -auxww to list all the running processes.
you will be able to see what is causing 100% CPU Usage.
you can also check with #iostat -xcn 2 to view disk performance statistics
In recent days I got the similar issue with Solaris 10 on SPARC Platform. where the top process were regarding our transaction switching middleware application when we align our application team they found multiple network connections were coming. Multiple unwanted connections were causing 100% CPU sys utilization.
to view connections we used snoop.
    Hope this help.

  • Patch Solaris 8 systems

    Hi
Is there anyone that has successfully been able to patch Solaris 8 systems using this tool? If you have a guide I would be happy. I have tried a couple of times but failed even though I have installed required patches.
    Regards Jerry

Does anything show up in the agent logs directory? You may have missing packages, such as SUNWbash, SUNWswmt, and SUNWgzip which are often missing on Solaris 8 systems.
If you are unable to find anything in the logs then I would advise opening a support case. Note that it is likely that we will ask you to collect information from the system using the [GDD script|http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/scripts/sunScripts/SUN-GDD_sun-connection-collect_noarch.tar.gz] . It would be worthwhile if you could collect the information whilst attempting to run a job against the system.
Run the script on the agent:
    # ./SUN-GDD_SunConnection.sh -debugAgent -auto 1800 -o /var/tmpThis will enable debug-level logging on the agent and automatically collect the logs after 30 minutes - you may wish to adjust the time to suit.

Mar 21 16:20:30 madera cpr: [ID 583038 kern.notice] System has been resumed.
and the system is not suspended. Is there anything i am missing on Solaris 9?
I am able to modunload the st driver, then when I attempt to suspend, the driver gets reloaded, and I get the failure above.
I ran across an E10000 service manual from 2.6 days that said that tape devices were not suspendable. They must have rethought that by Solaris 7. No idea why 9 should refuse this. I have the latest recommended patches.

  • Error: Couldn't open solaris/machines/conf003.rc

    Hi:
Installing Solaris 8 Intel is a total nighmare. What a great difference with Red Hat 6.1 (which is practically plug&play)
After following all the installation steps over a complatible hardware intel platform (AMD k6, Samsung Ultra Ata 10gb, no network card), the configuration assistant stops in the first boot showing the following:
    Running Configuration Assistant
    error: Couldn't open solaris/machines/conf003.rc
The root filesystem is not mounted and the configuration assistant has exited prematurely. Booting is unlikely to succeed. CTL-ALT-DEL may be used to reset the machine.
Well, can anyone tell me what is going on? I can see the blue screen at the begining and i have 2 partitions (boot and solaris). I boot from the boot partition of course. AARRRGHHHHHH I NEED SOME HELP GUYS, i know i am a newby :-)

The missing file solaris/machines/conf003.rc seems to hint at a
corrupted saved configuration on the diskette. (You should find
three files conf003.{nam,rc,rf} in the solaris/machines subdirectory
on the DCA diskette). Using a fresh DCA
    diskette might indeed help.
Another option is to try to install directly from cdrom - ignoring the
    DCA floppy. If your
system can boot from the cdrom drive, try to boot using the
"Software 1 of 2" CD (or the "Installation" CD).

  • SAP Permormance on Sun T2000 multi core servers.

    Hi guys,
On some of the newer sun servers, the performance isn't quite as good as what you would expect.
When you are running a specific job, let say patching using saint for instance the process works as expected, but the disp+work process seems to be just allocated to 'one' of the servers CPU's, rather than the process being distributed across the servers multi-cores, and doesn't seem to be much if any quicker.
I'm sure some of our ZONE settings in S10 must be wrong etc, but have followed  the documentation precisely from SAP.
Am i missing some Solaris functionality or do we have to tell SAP to use multi-cores ?
Just intrested in other peoples experiences on the newer Sun servers
    Regards
    James

An ABAP workprocess is single threaded. Basically that means that the speed of any ABAP program is running is CPU-wise only dependent on the speed of the CPU.
An ABAP system can't leverage the multi-core multi-thread architecture of the new processors seen on the single process. You will see e. g. a significant performance increase if you install a Java engine since those engines have multiple concurrent threads running and can so be processed in parallel as opposed to the ABAP part.
What you can do to speed up an import is setting the parameter
    PARALLEL
in the STMS configuration. Set the number to the available number of cores you have. This will increase the import speed since multiple R3trans processes are forked. However, during the XPRA still only one workprocess will be used.

I'm trying to run commands remotely from one Solaris box to another via root. We're using ssh on both of the boxes. I set up the /.rhosts and the hosts.equiv on the remote box. Has anyone come across this problem as im not sure if further files have been missed?

I'm a little confused about the statement about the zone. Because it is solaris 8, is the entire OS considered a 1 global zone?Solaris 8 has never had zone support nor will it ever have zone support. So from that perspective I guess you could call it a global zone if you wish but at the time Solaris 8 was active the concept of a global zone did not exist. For the purposes of your question, yes, it's only a global zone with no non global zones.
You're reading way to much into this.

  • Solaris 8 07/01 installation : Fast Data Access MMU Miss

    hello,
Because of a hardware crash of my 9.1Gb hard drive, I plugged a brand new 40Gb drive in my Ultra 10 workstation.
I tried to re-install my release of Solaris 8 (06/00), but this release detect only a 5Gb hard drive (but the installation work).
I downloaded and burned Solaris 8, release 07/01 to break the 32Gb/drive limit, but when I type 'boot cdrom' or 'boot cdrom install' at the bios prompt, I get :
    Fast Data Access MMU Miss.
I upgraded the PROM to the lastest version, and tried to reburn the CD.
Does someone has any idea to help me ?

When I type probe-ide it shows that the seconday Master is a Removable ATAPI Model: TOSHIBA CDROM XM-7002BcYes. Since that model computer was discontinued in 2002, there was only a CD-capable drive ever qualified to be used in it.
