AS2: absolute leading in pixel or points
Hi Gang,
Im trying to figure out how to set an Absolute leading - like
setting it to 0 or to 12 or whatever.
its pretty confusing to me how to reset the default leading
or even how to set it to an absolute value?!
any idea how to reset the leading or how to set ABSOLUTE
ABSOLUTE linespacing in pixels?
heres some code i did to test it,
(this should reset the line spacing to 0, but as u can see...
it dont werks for comic font) :
I decided I'd attach an example of the actual code. All defaults should be set properly.

I've just discovered that different typefaces seem to have different auto-leading in Pages. I am used to default leading being 120% of point size (or some consistent rule), but it seems this is not so any more. The same text in 10pt Times New Roman, which I would expect to line up with 10pt Palatino, for example, doesn't. I've tried using the inspector, at least to get both faces to behave the same for given settings, but I haven't been able to. How much control does Pages allow for this type of settings, and are there any hidden secrets as to how to do so? Many thanks
Message was edited by: Just me thenIf you set the line spacing in the inspector to Exactly and 12 points for 10 point type, it will work the way you want.

Are fonts in Keynote displayed in pixels or points?
Are fonts in Keynote displayed in pixels or points?
An interesting point which I never considered since I create my own designs using CSS.
I have always assumed that its pt. since we're taking print media here. This seems to be the case since the author of this Apple Training series book presumably knows!

Select the entire body level text box and change the font to Gill Sans, Regular, 36 pt. Make the font color the same dark red that you stored earlier. -
Pixels. Points. 72 ppi in InDesign/PDFs.
Hello.
Apologies if this has been raised before.
My problem simply is:
When exporting my 100 pts x 100 pts InDesign document to PDF, the PDF at 100% takes up 136 x 136 pixels on screen.
… perhaps dispelling the myth that 1 points = 1 pixel.
What’s interesting is that when I export to JPEG, the JPEG at 100% takes up 100 x 100 pixels on screen. This how I want PDFs to behave!
There are NO images placed in my InDesign file.
Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Some more reading I found...
http://www.peterpixel.nl/writings/pixels-to-points-conversion-in-indesign-cs4/
http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1420452&page=7Works like a charm for me.
InDesign - Preferences - Units and Guides - Points
File New document - 100 x 100 points
Draw frame - 100 x 100 points
Export to PDF
- Edit Object - opens in illustrator - dimensions 100 pixels by 100 pixels or 100 points x 100 points
- In the PDF the dimensions are 100 points x 100 points (there is no pixel measurement)
Export to JPG- 72 ppi
Open file in photoshop - 100 pixels x 100 pixels and 100 points x 100 points
Perhaps you're 100 points is converting to Pixels because it's 72 ppi
If that's the case then (100/72)*100 = 138 pixels
Hope that makes sense. -
Pixels to Points: Page Size
Pardon me if this question has been asked before...
I'm transitioning from exclusively using the Woodwing digital magazine tools to the Adobe DPS tools. When creating InDesign files, we previously measured them in points. 558.5x408 for landscape, and 418.9x547.636 for portrait. This was because the Woodwing reader apps allow room for the status bar.
Using the DPS system (sans status bar), by my calculations pages should be 558.5x418.9 points. I'm seeing everywhere that people are setting up their InDesign files in pixels, 1024x768. But if I do that, sizes are not 1:1. For example: 9 point type with 12 pt leading, on a 1024 px page doesn't look like 9/12 pt. In order for 9 pt type to appear the same optical size on a 1024 artboard as it does on the iPad, I have to scale it up to about 15.6 pt with 22 pt leading. That's of course for a 1024 px folio.
So my question: Is there any reason we can't continue to measure digital magazine files in points, @ 558.5x418.9? We'd really like to use 1:1 type measurements without having to constantly recalculate measurements.
P.S. We have a client presentation deadline tomorrow, and really need to figure this out today! We've nearly finished the entire publication layout, so I'm hoping we can continue to use these measurements. Our images are all @ 264 DPI or higher, if that makes any difference.1. You will observe that the bbox value is of type ASFixedRect. This contains four ASFixed values. THESE ARE NOT INTEGERS as you are assuming.
2. Once you have converted your ASFixed values you will have a value in default page units, that is 1/72 inch.
3. The media box may not be the page size. To match the page size in all cases you need to ALSO consider the crop box and page rotate values. -

Leading zero before decimal point
Hi,
I am trying to format a number so that there is a leading zero before the decimal point.
I am trying
select to_char(.75,'999,999.99') from dual;
But this gives me only .75 as output.
I want 0.75
Is there any easy way to get it (I guess it would be possible with all sorts of decode and lpad combinations, but I want to avoid that! I'm sure there must be some easy way!)this?
SQL> SELECT TO_CHAR('.75','990.99') FROM dual;
TO_CHAR
0.75
SQL> ed
Wrote file afiedt.buf
1* SELECT TO_CHAR('.75','999.99') FROM dual
SQL> /
TO_CHAR
.75
1* SELECT TO_CHAR('.75','099.99') FROM dual
SQL> /
TO_CHAR

Increase or decrease leading in 1/10th point-keyboard
I'm new at working in ad production with ID CS3. With the keyboard, I would like to Increase or decrease leading by less than one point increments (Option+Up Arrow/Down Arrow). In QuarkXPress I was able to nudge leading in 1/10th of a point increments (Command, Option, Shift ' or Command, Option, Shift ; ). Is there an ID CS3 keyboard shortcut for that?
Thanks for your answer. However, that won't be acceptable for me in that the Leading preference setting is tied with Point Size. I currently have this setting at 1 point increments. I wouldn't want the keyboard shortcut for size to be .1 pt increments. So the lesser leading increment will have to be adjusted in the toolbar.

Bug Converting Pixels to Points in PS CC??
Even though I try typing in a point size for type, photoshop displays "pt" next to the number, but it always remains in pixels.
I'm designing iPhone apps, needed to be in points for developers to convert with Xcode. Two Weeks ago I was using points, but now PS won't let me. I think it is a bug...
I tried to go into PS's settings and change units to points. Still no good. All it does is change the "px" next to a font size to "pt" but does nit actually change the size of the font.Yes, I did that (as stated above) and that is not working. It changes the "px" to "pt" but does not actually have any affect what-so-ever Thanks for trying, JJMack

Doing absolute move using center reference point
I want to place a large number of images of varying aspect ratio using the center reference point at the same point in each page. I have played with move and it appears to always use the top left point. My interpretation of the documentation suggests that I would get the same results with transform.
I realize that I could do the calculations to do the move but am hoping I am missing something and there is a much simpler way to do it.
Thanks in advance
Jerrycsm_phil: Your English is quite confusing. Please remember to end sentences with periods. I assume you meant to say:
I don't know why you wrote "Bad for performance, bad for idempotency, and bad philosophically" when this method is working. If its working, what is the problem? Can you please explain.
(I'm still not sure what you meant by "i want to change the your mehtods.")
Because something is working does not mean it is right.
Because something is working does not mean it is good.
It may cause problems in the future. Or it may have side effects.
I wrote four things:
Using the selection is a bad idea. This is well-accepted by experienced scripters. Scripts should avoid using the selection wherever possible. But why? I tried to explain in brief:
Bad for performance: Interacting with the selection is slower. InDesign has to deal with updating the display and the UI when the selection is involved, when it would not otherwise have to do so. Anytime you interact with the selection your script will be slower. That slowness may not matter most of the time, such as when you are donly doing something once.
Bad for idempotency: When you change the selection, it becomes difficult to repeat your work, and you do not leave the state of the program as you found it. If something else is depending on the selection, then you will screw that up. It is like changing a global variable. The best solution is not to change it, but to use a local variable instead. As a workaround, you can save the old value of the selection, perform your work, and then restore the selection. But that is imperfect. What if your code is running in an event handler? What if two pieces of code that use the selection are running in parallel? What if there are thread concurrency issue? Probably not the case in CS5.5, but what about CS7?
Bad philosophically: This one is harder to explain. I think it really boils down to, if your script is not affecting the user interface, it should not alter portions of the user interface. The selection should be considered out-of-bounds for most scripts. This is really a restatement of the previous claims, especially "bad idea," so maybe it does not count on its own. But I repeat it because it is worth repeating.
If you're really careful, using the selection can work. But much of the time it causes problems, either in the present or in the future. It is good to avoid problems where feasible.
I hope this post helps you to understand what I meant. -

Using pixels rather than points to specify the size of a font
The font constructor takes the size in points as its 3rd parameter like so:
new Font("Times New Roman", Font.PLAIN, 12);
Is there any way to use pixels to specify the size instead? The reason I ask is that point specified fonts differ in size from one platform to another (depending on the systems DPI - Windows typically has 96 while the Mac has 72). Obviously if we specify the size in pixels we don't get this problem.
Thanks in advance!
-PeterActually, that's the point of using points, to specify character size in a manner fairly independant of the pixel resolution.
However, what you probably could do is to get a FontRendererContext from the GraphicsContext you propose to use, then get the point-to-pixel transform from that, and use that to transform pixels into points. -
Eraser tool (FW CS4) doesn't affect entire pixel width -- only one point?
I'm using the Fireworks CS4 eraser tool (this may pertain to other tools), set to: square shape, 1px width, edge softness 0 or 100 (doesn't matter). This is noticeable when moving the brush diagonally from bottom-right to top-left. When moving in the opposite direction, it isn't noticeable at all. It seems to be only affecting the upper-left point on every pixel (pixels have points in Fireworks?).
...What the hell? (rhetorical)
I make pixel art, so this is really awkward.
Is there some setting I'm missing?
Is this normal behavior?
How does it make sense?Talking about pixels, it happens that sometimes rectangles cannot be perfectly aligned, even when they are positioned and aligned correctly and have a less than a pixel difference... . That affects css and images and causes some miscalculations.

Need help to find the "leading point size"
Hi,
I need help to find the "leading point size".
Any para style leading is more than 2 points of my font size, I need the alert message "Its more than 2 points for your font size". For instance my para font size is 10 here my leading should be 12 points rather than its 14 points, I need the alert message.
Is this possible by script?
by
hasviHi Hasvi,
Try this.
var doc = app.activeDocument;
var texts = doc.stories.everyItem().textStyleRanges.everyItem().getElements();
var pstyle = "Following paragraph styles have more leadings:\r\r";
for(var i=0;i<texts.length;i++)
var ps = texts[i].pointSize;
if(texts[i].leading > ps + 2)
pstyle += texts[i].appliedParagraphStyle.name;
alert(pstyle)
If it is correct than mark the answer as correct and don't mark your question as correct answer.

Chinna
