AS2, Flash 8 and opening pdf files

Hi all,
I am using Flash 8, Actionscript 2, to open pdf files from a
projector.
Everything is fine if I use 'FreeMX' and the computer has
Acrobat 5, 6, 7 installed.
But it fails to work if the computer has Adobe Reader 8
installed - the pdf document does not open.
Does anyone know of this and whether there is a workround?
It's kinda urgent - the client is breathing down my neck here:)
Julian

I think I may have resolved my problem - it looks like Adobe
Reader 8 uses different code to parse its command line than before.
The path and file name I used in my code had '/' as the path
separator, which worked fine with Acrobat/Reader 6 and 7. But (at
least here) not with Adobe Reader 8 - instead I had to convert to
'\' to make it work.

  • How to embed and open PDF files within excel

I constantly need to embed PDF files onto Excel documents as well as extract/open/view PDF files from Excel documents. I am unable to do so with a macbook, i know that there is a workaround but it's such a tedious process. Is there a software i can buy or setting that i can do so that i can embed and open PDF files easily as i need to view these files multiple times a day for work.
    please advise

Download and install Adobe Reader: Adobe Reader Install for all versions
Open the PDF file using it. If security restrictions don't prevent it you could also print it.

  • I've tried all the advice on the Firefox Help site, but I still can't download anything. Yesterday, I was able to download and open PDF files fine. Today... no.

While I was working on my Mac last night, I got a message that I needed to download an Adobe (I think an Acrobat X Pro) update. I did. That seems to be the time when I started having problems. Now I can't use the uninstaller for the program. I think that may be the problem, but my ability to fix it stops here.
I'm usually more discerning about updates, etc, but I was working on a project and the flashing updater was bothering me, so I hit yes, not really looking at the app I was updating. Ugh. My mistake.

    Hi hobanny,
Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There is a lot of useful information in there. It actually lists two different plugins to try for opening PDF files. I'd try both of them just to be safe.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • How do you download and open PDF files that come in the email?

I can NOT download or open PDF files. It prompts me to open in IBooks and then it's not there. I am so frustrated. PLEASE HELP!

Touch the attachement once to download it.  Then touch it a second time, after it is downloaded ( watch the attachment icon) to open it in quick view. if you want to do something more than just view it, and if you want to save it,  Touch and hold the downloaded attachment to get the 'open in' pop up, and any app that supports PDFs, like I books, or any of the other PDF ready apps.
If it is not downloaded yet, it will not be in I books.

  • Adobe flash player and reading pdf files.

I've recently been having issues with Safari reading online pdf files and loading up sites using adobe flash player.
I've somehow tracked down a temporary solve by going into Safari's "preferences", then the security tab.
Where it shows "internet plug-ins" I have it checked so it can load adobe flash. But when it comes to reading pdf files (adobe reader)
I have to uncheck "internet plug ins". So in turn I can read the pdfs, but not use adobe flash player.
There seems to be a conflict between the adobe reader and flash player that I can use both at the same time.
Any suggestions on how to correct this issue?
Here's a screenshot of what I have. And if I have to delete one of these plug-ins how can I do this as I don't see any options to do so.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Unable to generate and open pdf file

I am unable to open your PDF files generated with BO any more after upgrading my adobe to 9.3. Xcelsius SP3 is installed on my system.
    Can somebody please guide me?

    Hi,
We are having the same problem as well. When we tried exporting to a PowerPoint (*.pptx) file we noticed additional a piece of information appear in the notes section:
"IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT XCELSIUS CONTENT EMBEDDED INTO THIS SLIDE - PLEASE READ ON IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTIES!
This PowerPoint slide has Xcelsius content embedded into it and certain restrictions apply:
1). Information message shown when you open this slide deck: "Some controls on this presentation canu2019t be activated. They might not be registered on this computer".
You need the latest Adobe Flash Player on your machine to view the embedded Xcelsius content:
a). Close PowerPoint - make sure you DO NOT SAVE this slide deck.
b). Using Internet Explorer install the latest Adobe Flash Player from adobe.com
c). Open this PowerPoint slide deck again.
2). A design-time thumbnail is not shown for the Xcelsius content when you open this slide deck until you enter and exit Slide Show mode.
3). Office 2007 files (.pptx) do not support Xcelsius embedded content - save as an Office 2003 file (.ppt) instead.
For more information refer to the Export to Microsoft Word 2007 and PowerPoint 2007 section in the Xcelsius release notes.
4). The Xcelsius visualization shows error code messages (#2048, etc).
Flash security restrictions have prevented the embedded Xcelsius content from accessing external data.
To allow the Xcelsius embedded content to access external data refer to the Adobe Flash Player - Security Issues section in the Xcelsius release notes.
Note: To allow embedded Xcelsius content in a PowerPoint slide you have to add POWERPNT.EXE as a trusted Adobe Flash application:
              Office 2003 path example -  C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\POWERPNT.EXE
              Office 2007 path example -  C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\POWERPNT.EXE"
I bet there is some sort of similar procedure needing to take place on the Adobe Reader/Acrobat side to add as a Trusted application.
    Has anyone tried this?
    Thanks,
    Phil

  • How to read, dispaly and open pdf files

Hi, I am very new to Java butI have VB6.0 background. My current requirement is to read pdf file names from a directory, then
show them on a form in a list (with their path in background pointing to the actual pdf files) and then once a user clicks any
file name, open that file on the form.
    For example:
My pdf files are in a directory as following:
    C:\myreports\user1\
    report1.pdf
    report2.pdf
    report3.pdf
    C:\myreports\user2\
    report1.pdf
    report5.pdf
The output on the form should look like this if user1 has logged in the system. Side note: I am able to get userid of the logged in person in a variable.
    My Reports:
    . Report 1
    . Report 2
    . Report 3
When a user clicks Report 1, it opens on the same form in pdf format.
    Thanks
    S.yhong

For the first part (Listing thepdf files in the directory) you can use the java.lang.File class.
    File f = new File("path to your directory");
    File files[] = f.listFiles();
then process the files array to find the files with extenction pdf
You can also use a file filter object and make the listFiles method return only the pdf files.
Please read the documentation about the File class for more info about it.
*/ For the displaying the pdf part is it good enough if you load the accrobat reader and with it. In that case you can do that using the Runtime.exec
Also you can search for free java based pdf viewers I am sure there must be meny.
And also the JTextPane might support pdf but I am not sure about it.
    EDIT:
Just to say that this is my 1000th post :)

  • Firefox 5 is not able to download and open PDF files as Firefox 3.6 was able to. This looks like a bug to me. When will it be fixed?

There are many web sites that I visit to download statements that are in PDF format. In Firefox 3.6, when I selected a statement to download, Firefox opened a new window that indicated that the PDF is being downloaded. When the download is complete Firefox either opens the document or the document is opened outside of Firefox by Adobe Reader. In both Firefox 4 and 5, the PDF file download never occurs. This functionality has always worked in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. I currently use Adobe Reader X 10.1.0. I tried going back to Adobe Reader 9.4.5, but this did not make a difference. So I think the problem is in Firefox.

I saved a pdf form in acrobat. I cannot access it, How do I do dat?

    Hi Peter,
What error do you get when you try to open te pdf in Acrobat?
What version of Acrobat and OS are you using?

  • I have office 2013 and it uses word to save and open .pdf files.

I want to use Adobe Reader XI, how can I use that instead of Word?

Word cannot interpret the unicode that comprises a PDF so it just comes up as garbled characters all over the page.
Are you using Windows 7 or 8?
I know how to change it in 7.
In your Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs>Set Associations
Scroll down to Adobe Acrobat Document (or ,pdf) in the list. Click it and click Change Program. Change it from Word to Reader, and click OK.

  • Can not open PDF file in IE8

I am running Windows XP sp3 and IE 8. When I try and open PDF files from a webpage I get a find button, save button, or cancel button. The PDF file will open if I save it to the desktop first but there is now way I can open the PDF from the webpage. And this is very annoying to the user. I have tried checking and unchecking the Display PDF in Browser option but this has not helped anything. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening or what I should try?
    Thanks

no solution yet....adobe does not play well with redmond....ie microsoft...
    ((sidebar:
as adobe in silicone valley near apple....adobe started with WYSIWYG when they were
all PARC (division of xerox which closed down parc)...steven jobs bought the gui for apple and those that did not want to work for
jobs started adobe...and here we are w/ little/no support for adobe reader....which won the war with the pagis reader (xerox), now defunct...))
    work around
open adobe reader and turn off "display pdf in browser" by  unchecking the box...
    steps
    open adobe reader
    edit
    preferences
    categories = internet
will be top line on right side....
    OK and close...
now when you do a pdf,..the file will download to a temp folder and open a seperate window for the reader...
    caveat:
store this info somewhere...after figuring out what to do i saved an adobe.txt file to aid this old memory of mine...
    why
because sometimes you will have to turn it back on....
for example i had one bank where i have to turn it off to properly view/download the statements....
and another bank where i have to turn it back on to properly download the statements  (this bank utilizes an aspx file to access/display the pdf and will not open it in a seperate window....)  so it all depends on how the pages are coded....and you thought it was all to some standard...shame on you...ha ha
    here's hoping this helps...
and wishing/hoping that the good folks at adobe (they have to be good, they didn't go to work for steve...nasty man...) will come up with a solution that will auto update...one can only hope...the ultimate optimist....good luck...and pls excuse any typos....

  • Why can't I open pdf files allthough having adobe reader 9 preinstalled on my new windows 7 laptop?

    Hi!
I think my question might be simple to answer, so please if you read this give it a try...
I just bought a new laptop with windows 7 on it. Adobe Reader 9 was allready installed. I wanted to open simple pdf files, but I got the message "Adobe Reader ?" in an empty field that pops up.
Why can't I open pdf files? Do I also need to install the Adobe Flash Player as well?
I would be very glad if you could give me a hint.
    Thanx

It appears as if Adobe Reader is not correctly installed.  Try installing the latest version 9.2 from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ - make sure that you uncheck any unwanted software bundled with the download.
P.S.  no, you don't need Flash Player to open PDF files.
