ASA 5512-X an out of date ASDM-IDM?

The cisco ASA 5512-X we have recently purchased comes with an out of date ASDM-IDM. It comes with version 6.6(1) which is not compatible with the asa version 9.1 is this normal?

I haven't opened a new one in the past couple of months but ASDM 6.6(1) is compatible with ASA software 8.6(1). That was the version most units were shipping with for a while as it was the initial release that introduced support for the 5500- X series.
If the box shipped new with 9.1 ASA software then the ASDM should be at least 7.1(1) - and the recommended version is 7.2(1). Reference.
It's easy enough to upgrade ASDM - just copy the file over and change the "asdm image" command to point to it.
(By the way, you'd get better visibility of a question like this in the Security - Firewalling forum.)

  • Unable to load admin page asa 5512

    Hi,
I have a new ASA 5512-X, out-of-the-box, which I am unable to open the admin web page on.
    Laptop - Lenovo Windows 7 64 bit
    Browsers - Firefox 28 & IE 11
Java is installed and correct vesrions
    ASDM on the 5512 - asdm-66114.bin
    ASA Ver - asa861-2-smp-k8.bin
https is enabled and I'm using IP addresses that are allowed connectivity to the 5512
When i browse to https://192.168.1.1/admin I am presented with a certificate error as expected, I accept the certificate, then the page hangs.  This happens on both Firefox and IE.
Wireshark shows the TCP 3-way handshake and the TLS/SSL negotiation which is then immediately followed by the 5512 sending SSL data then a FIN,PSH,ACK packet back to my PC.  then a load of TCP retransmits from both my PC and the 5512.
Now, I tried a different PC (Dell), same OS, same ver of Firefox but IE ver.9, and did not have any problems being presented with the 'Run ASDM Wizard' page.
Has anyone had a similar issue?  Has anyone please got any idea what config on my PC may be at fault?
Many thanks for any suggestions and help.
    Cheers

Please have a look at the ssl settings on the ASA: "show run | i ssl".
You may not have strong ciphers enabled and the PC with the newer browser does not accept the default weak ciphers. I make it a habit to setup ASAs with:
    ssl encryption 3des-sha1 aes128-sha1 aes256-sha1 rc4-md5
    Those are all strong ciphers.

  • Asa-5512-x no connectivity to internet

I am going from a pix-515e to asa-5512-x.   I used the wizard for the initial setup.  I then set the interfaces the same, objects, nat rules, routes, ACLs the same as in the 515e (except for the outside interface ACL where you use the inside address now, rather than the outside...and you have a global deny rule for all interfaces) .
I take the cables from the inside / outside interface from the 515e, plug them into the 5512x and nada...
Computers on the inside can't get out.   I see egress failures on the ASDM monitor from the inside to outside.  I don't see any traffic coming in on the outside interface to the inside as I do on the ASDM of the 515e.

At a quick glance the config looks pretty clean (please do use ssh and not telnet though)
Since you replaced one box with another, have you checked that your upstream (Outside) device is reachable from the ASA itself? (i.e can you ping your default gateway at 98.xxx.xxx.xxx 2 )
I've sometimes seen cases where we had to ask the ISP to clear their ARP cache when changing out firewalls.

  • Configuring "Guest Wi-Fi" VLAN on ASA 5512

I'm attempting to setup a new vlan on my Cisco ASA 5512 running version 8.6(1)2.  This vlan will provide access for wireless "guest" AP's in my network.  I have the guest vlan setup through to my switches, I'm able to dedicate a switch port to VLAN 40 and aquire an IP address in the 10.40.10.0/24 network.  Below is excerpt of what I think is the relevent config information.  I'm trying to route guest traffic out my "outside" interface.
Obvious to me I'm missing another command in here.  Any help would be greatling appreciated. If more the running-config is needed please advise.  Thanks in advance!

  • How to Configure Cisco ASA 5512 for multiple public IP interfaces

    Hi
I have a new ASA 5512 that I would like to configure for multiple public IP support.  My problem may be basic but I am an occasional router admin and don't touch this stuff enough to retain everything I have learned.
Here is my concept.    We have a very basic network setup using three different ISPs that are currently running with cheap routers for internet access.  We use these networks to open up access for Sales to demo different products that use a lot of bandwidth (why we have three)
I wanted to use the 5512 to consolidate the ISPs so we are using one router to manage the connections.  I have installed an add on license that allows multiple outside interfaces along with a number of other features.
Outside Networks (I've changed the IPs for security purposes)
    Outside1 E 0/0 : 74.55.55.210  255.255.255.240 gateway 74.55.55.222
    Outside2 E 0/2: 50.241.134.220 255.255.248 gateway 50.241.134.222
    Inside1 : E 0/1 192.168.255.1 255.255.248.0
    Inside2 : E 0/3 172.16.255.1 255.255.248.0
My goal is to have Inside 1 route all internet traffic using Outside1 and Inside 2 to use Outside2.    The problem is I can't seem to do this. I can get inside 1 to use outside 1 but Inside2 uses Outside 1 as well.
I tried adding static routes on Outside2 to have all 172.16.248.0/21 traffic use gateway 50.241.134.222 but that doesn't seem to work.
I can post my config up as needed.  I am not well versed in Cisco CLI, I've been using the ASDM 7.1 app.  My ASA 5512 is at 9.1.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions/help

I have been away for a while and am just getting caught up on some posts. so my apology for a delayed response.
I find the response very puzzling. It begins by proclaiming that to achieve the objective we must use Policy Based Routing. But then in the suggested configuration there is no PBR. What it gives us is two OSPF processes using one process for each of the public address ranges and with some strange distribute list which uses a route map. I am not clear what exactly it is that this should accomplish and do not see how it contributes to having one group of users use one specific ISP and the other group of users use the other ISP>
    To the original poster
It seems to me that you have chosen the wrong device to implement the edge function of your network. The ASA is a good firewall and it does some routing things. But fundamentally it is not a router. And to achieve what you want were a group of users will use a specified ISP and the other group of users will use the other ISP you really need a router. You want to control outbound traffic based on the source of the traffic, and that is a classic situation where PBR is the ideal solution. But the ASA does not do PBR.

  • ASA 5512-X DHCP Backup ISP

I installed a new ASA 5512-X over the weekend for a client.  Their backup ISP connection is DHCP based.  I need to use the 'dhcp client route track' command on the interface, but it is not available.  However according the all the documentation I am looking at and even the ASDM says it should be available.
This is the version of ASA and ASDM they are running:
Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.6(1)1
    Device Manager Version 6.6(1)
I did upgrade to the latest ASA software, so has this command been removed?  If I do a '?' in the interface, there isn't a 'dchp' option.
Any help would be appreciated.  I really don't want to tell them they need to get a static IP address to resolve this issue.
    TIA,

  • ASA 5512 8.6(1) failover via Management0/0

I am configuring a brand new pair of ASA 5512s running 8.6(1).  Traditionally we hae been using the Management port as the dedicated failover link, but that seems to not be possible on the 5512s.
    ASA (config-if)# no management-only
ERROR: It is not allowed to make changes to this option for management interface on this platform.
I have not been able to find anything in the official documentation mentioning this restriction.
Does anybody know if this is indeed the case or if I am just missing something?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I think this is what you are looking for
Management Port Configuration ChangesThe  ASA 5500-X Series introduced a shared management port for firewall and  IPS services.,There are certain caveats to follow during migration from  the ASA 5500 Series.•  The shared management port cannot be used as a data port. All  through-the-box traffic arriving at the management port will be dropped  implicitly. This cannot be disabled.• The shared management port cannot be used as a part of a high availability configuration. If  the ASA management port (M0/0) on the ASA 5500 Series appliance was  being used as a data port, the configuration associated with that port  should be moved to one of the gigabit data ports numbered above G0/3.

Though I guess you have to take into consideration when we compare the old ASA5500 Series and the new ASA5500-X that the new series actually has 2 more physical interfaces than all previous corresponding models had.
Though it still might feel a waste of a Gigabit interface in a sense.
    Hope this helps

    Hi,
one possible solution is to use an intermediate array. The intermediate array should be used in the user interface. When new data is entered the VI should read each element and then compare to the elements in the stored array. If all elements are different then update the array, otherwise display a fault message.
You could use asequence activated when the Enter button is pressed. In the first frame you would compare the First array with the stored array. it is probably best to use a Boolean indicator to show if the data is valid Make sure you declare this as a local variable.
With the sequence you can perform the comparisons in several seperate frames or in one frame with a OR to link the results. For large numbers of comparisons I prefer to use m
ultiple frames because otherwise the screen becomes a maze of wires and other programmers who may need to maintain the code in the future will find it hard to follow a single frame.
Once all the data items have been compared then the following sequence should contain a CASE statement of type True/False. Link a readable copy of your local variable to the selector of this statement. Then in the FALSE case (Assuming you have linked the boolean to be false when no data is duplicated) copy the new array to the stored array. In the TRUE case bring up an error message.
So long as your arrays are not too large and you do not use this technique in too many places in your code the processor overhead should not be badly affected. For frequent use of such a caomparison in several VIs you may want to create a dedicated subVI for the task. For very large arrays you should seek a different solution.
    Hope that helps a bit.

  • Unable to install WildCard Certificate for ASA 5512-x

Have a customer who we manage an ASA 5512-X for.  I am configuring a Wildcard Certificate for AnyConnect. They have a wildcard certificate purchased through Godaddy.com.  I am utilizing ASDM 7.3 for the installation of the certificate.  I added the Identity Certificate ASDM_TrustPoint0.  Checked the radio button "Add a new identity certificate:"  Named the Key Pair WildCard, and set the size to 2048.  I also changed the "Certificate Subject DN: to CN=cityvpn.wirapids.org.  There were no other attributes to add.  I also changed the FQDN under the advanced tab to the same cityvpn.wirapids.org.  Then clicked Add Certificate.  Successful
Under CA Certificates I added the certificate from file.  Which I added the bundle.crt from Godaddy.  Certificate was added successfully.
Going back to Identity Certificates.  I click on install.  Install from a file.  Which I tried the other crt file and the bundle file from Godaddy.  I get an Error: Failed to parse or verify imported certificate.  With the other .crt file from Godaddy I get the same error, but "Certificate does not contain device's General Purpose Public Key."
Not sure what to think.  Any suggestions or help would be great.  Thanks
    Paul

You should never ever get a wildcard certificate. Because if that certificates private key gets stolen, the thief can impersonate all ssl-protected services. The clients view them as valid resources, because the certificate is correct. The only thing to do then, is to revocate the certificate, which will cause you to get a new certificate installed on ALL services that you had protected with the wildcard one.
Even worse, most broswers (besides IE) ignore certificate revocation lists in various cases!

  • SFR drops traffic when policy is out-of-date?

    Hi,
We are evaluating a 5515X with FireSIGHT.
I am routing a few guest networks through the lab ASA but are experiencing some strangeness :)
Three times it has suddenly started dropping traffic, and I really can't pinpoint the reason..
The things that I have noticed when I get the warning from our support staff, is that there are policies out-of-date on the ASA. (See att. img policy_out-of-date.png). And the when I apply the policies the traffic starts again..
And when I look at the logs from the ASA the thing thats sticks out is the sudden spike of SYN Timeouts (See att. img syn_timouts.png).
I have "Inspect traffic during policy apply = Yes", and I have read that this could stop the traffic "when applying" the policy. But should that really block traffic when the policy is out-of-date?
Do you guys have any idea whats happening here, or noticed anything like this before?
Is there a log that shows why the policy gets out-of-date?
    Regards Falk

As far as getting the package in the repo updated as mentioned above it all depends on the maintainer for that particular package. What you can do to help is go to the homepage, search for the package and flag it as out of date. FYI this has already been done for mythtv.
To upgrade on your own the best way to do it is start from the same PKGBUILD that is used to build the official package through abs. You can find all the info you need on the wiki page.
Typically the PKGBUILDs in the AUR have some different functionality from the main version in the repo, and aren't usually what you are looking for if all you want is a version bump.
It is usually best to remove your installed version before using a version from AUR. Most AUR PKGBUILDs will have conflicts (and provides) for other versions of the same package and thus pacman will give an error when trying to install it. If you are just bumping the version of the same package you will not need to remove it first.
EDIT: You can use pacman -Rd to remove (and replace) a package if others depend on it.

Did you know that your Internet Explorer is out of date?
To get the best possible experience using our website we recommend that you upgrade to a newer version or other web browser. A list of the most popular web browsers can be found below"

It's probably giving you that warning because your Firefox is very out of date. Please read [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com] to see how to update to the latest version of Firefox (14.0.1 right now)

I currently am running 10.5.8 and I need to update to atleast 10.6.8. Just wondering if I need to purchase it from apple or if there is an easy/free way to update it.

you need to purchase it: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard.  It is only on a disk, not in download form.

I am having the same issue even with the newer 7.1. I have a 1-100 KB data push on both my husdand's and my phone every hour on the hour (i.e. my will be at :23 of the hour and his will be at :13 of the hour and it will change). This is whether we are on a WIFI and with all apps, background refreshes, push notifications, etc turned OFF.

  • My iMac PowerPC G4 will not connect to my Belkin N  router. I have not been able to connect for so long that I actually gave up on this computer until today, so it is a little out of date software wise. It is running OS 10.3.9.

First off i apoligize for the title length, a bit new to help forums and didnt realize thats what that was .
    Anyways;
My iMac PowerPC has been having this issue for quite a few years, prompting me to flat out replace it. I recently had a friend come to need a computer, and told them they could have it once i got it working.
The unfortunate problem that i luckily discovered: my friend and i use the same brand / model of Router, the Belkin N+ (N plus incase it removes the plus sign like it did in the title).
Ive tried everything i know, which isnt much. I've verified the password is correct, ive restarted the computer, and ive restarted my modem and router. Nothing works.
I should mention also that the computer is out of date program wise (obviously) since i havent been able to connect with it in so long. I am still using Internet Connect, and the computer still gives me the option to try .Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Dean

The router is much, much newer than the computer, perhaps some characteristic of the WiFi network as it's currently setup is preventing the computer from connecting.
Try to go back to the basics: set your WiFi network to "b" mode only (i.e., turn off "g") and termporarily remove the password from it. See if the computer will at least establish a connection at that point. Then start turning on one thing at a time ("g" mode, then security, etc).
Not sure what format your WEP key is, but if it's not 10 characters (the minimum for the standard, which constitutes a 64-bit key), you can try making it that long. If it's 13 or 26 characters, it might be a higher encryption than the computer can support.
If all else fails, you could try looking on ebay/craigslist for a copy of Tiger to install on the iMac, which would have software support for more WiFi encryption schemes. Also, it would provide software support for USB WiFi adapters that would also be able to connect to more modern networks.
