ASA5505 SOHO public ip range and nat head ache

Hello
Can anyone shed some ligh on a problem im having. We have setup a ASA 5505 with an ISP called Zen that allocates you a subnet of public ip addresses. i have sucessfully  setup the asa to access the internet using nat on the outside interface. we would like to use the other ip addresses in the range for other services but i cannot think how i can do this/configure this.
LAN > ASA5505 > VDSL Modem > ISP
the range they have given us is
Number of IP addresses: 8
IP addresses: XX.XX.XXX.40 - XX.XX.XXX.47
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.248
Subnet in slash notation: XX.XX.XXX.40 /29
Network address: XX.XX.XXX.40
XX.XX.XXX.41
XX.XX.XXX.42
XX.XX.XXX.43
XX.XX.XXX.44
XX.XX.XXX.45
XX.XX.XXX.46 Router
Broadcast address: XX.XX.XXX.47
Router address: XX.XX.XXX.46
i have setup XX.XX.XXX.46 on the otside interface and hosts inside can access the net and nat from the internet to internal devices all work.
we have a vdsl modem connected to the outside interface and using PPPoE we dynamically get the XX.XX.XXX.46/32 address.
Is there any way i can use the other spare addresses? i do see how i can use them. i have done a lot of browsing and the only way i see that other people have been able to do this is using a layer3 device and using ip unnumber of the external int point to a loopback,
any info or advice would be gratefully received.
regards
C.

Hello
the version is Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 9.2(2)4
debugging icmp i see pings to the .46 address however i see no pings/traffic received on the asa for the other addresses. how does zen know to route the xx.xx.xx.41 to .45 ip addresses to the firewall using the .46 address?
the nat rules i have are
nat (Vlan200_Int,Outside_Dirty_Int) dynamic interface < this works for lan access to the internet
nat (Vlan200_Int,Outside_Dirty_Int) static xx.xx.xx.45 no-proxy-arp service tcp www 65100
nat (Vlan200_Int,Outside_Dirty_Int) static xx.xx.xx.45 no-proxy-arp service tcp https 65101
access-list Outside_Dirty_Network_access_in extended permit tcp object Click_PC object ESXi object-group DM_INLINE_TCP_7
object-group service DM_INLINE_TCP_7 tcp
port-object eq 902
port-object eq www
port-object eq https
thanks for the help

  • Cisco 1841 with 2 public WAN IP's and NAT

    OK currently the network is setup as follows:
    Zyxel SHDSL Router --> Linksys Router --> 10/100 Switch --> PC's
    x.x.x.145/28__________x.x.x.146/28____________________192.168.1.0/24
    The Linksys router is running inbound one-to-many PAT (eg. x.x.x.146:80 --> 192.168.1.10:8080)
    I'm looking to replace the setup with a Cisco 1841 router. Now normally I would configure the DSL interface as unnumbered to the internal LAN interface and use my public IP addys on this segment then passing through a PIX to NAT into private IP addys.
    The problem I have is I want the 1841 to be an all in one box performing DSL, Firewall and NAT functions.
    Now I thought I would configure the DSL as unnumbered to FastEthernet0/0 adding a secondary IP address of x.x.x.146/28. Interface configured as NAT outside.
    Interface FastEthernet0/1 was configured with 192.168.1.1/24 with NAT inside and connected to the switch.
    The problem was is that the FastEthernet0/0 interface line protocol was down as there was no need to connect it to anything.
    I then tried assigning the dialer interface a static IP of x.x.x.145/28 and x.x.x.146/28 as a secondary IP running NAT outside. I tried again but during boot up the router said you cant assign a secondary IP to the dialer interface.
    So my question is, how would you recommend setting up the interfaces to enable the router to have both x.x.x.145 and 146/28 as public IP's and NAT x.x.x.146:80 to 192.168.1.10:8080?
    Any help much appreciated.

  • Guest Public Network behind 10.4 Server running DHCP and NAT

    I am wondering if it is possible to use APE's guest networking capabilities while still using OS 10.4 server and my DHCP and NAT servers? Is there a way to set the Airport to run its own DHCP NAT and have everything routed correctly?
    Or do I still need to use two separate Airports in order to have a public and private network at my home.

    I figured it out. I just deiced to run a double NAT configuration

  • Adding a Second Public IP Range

    Our current environment is configured as follows and is in the attached image.  We have two routers on the front end that are running BGP with three different ISP's.  Each ISP connects to a different interface on our routers.  The ISP interfaces use ISP supplied /30 IP's.  Our existing ARIN IP block is advertised out BGP and assigned to the inside interface of each router.  We run iBGP and GLBP on the routers inside interfaces.  We are close to using up our /24 block of ARIN assigned IP's.  We have received a new /24 block of ARIN assigned IP's that we want to use along with the existing /24 block.  What is the best way to add the new /24 block of IP's to our routers?  Do I need to assign them as a second IP to each router's inside interface?  Or, can I just advertise the new block out of BGP and add a static route to route the new block out the inside interfaces and not assign any secondary IP's to the inside interfaces?

    You won't be able to port forward the same port on the same public IP to different local IPs  because the router will have no way of knowing which local IP it is meant for.
    But what you could do is use your existing IP for one of the translations and the second IP for the other eg.
    ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.5.10 5060 interface gi0/1 5060
    where gi0/1 is the outside interface and then
    ip nat inside source static tcp 192.168.5.11 5060 <unused public IP> 5060
    In terms of how it works with the second public IP the ISP has a router with an IP from the same public IP range. So when traffic gets to ISP router inbound from the internet the ISP router requests the mac address of the public IP.
    Your router performs proxy arp for that public IP so it responds with the mac address of it's outside interface.
    This means that traffic for that IP is sent to your router.

  • ASA 5510 - Version 8.2(1) - SSH, ICMP and NAT not working

    I have an ASA 5510 using version 8.2(1) and I have enabled ssh, icmp and they work from the inside network but not from the outside network.
    Further to this, I exposed one site from the inside interface on the ASA (192.168.1.100) to outside (1.1.1.7) using NAT and it is not pingable nor accessible from the outside. I also allowed SSH from the outside network to the external IP addresses of the ASA and it is not working either.  Any ideas what I could be missing in my configuration?  I bolded the configurations involved in the ASA running configuration I copied below (please note I have replaced the real IP addresses with 1.1.1.x and 2.2.2.x):

    Hi,
    I can't see any problems right away in the configuration.
    I guess we could start by using the "packet-tracer" to simulate the SSH and ICMP through the firewall
    packet-tracer input outside tcp 1.1.1.1 12345 22
    packet-tracer input outside icmp 1.1.1.1 8 0
    Don'd mind the source address of 1.1.1.1. Its just an address that is located behind "outside" interface according to the ASA routing table. (As the configurations 1.1.1.0/28 is not actually configured on the ASA)
    Share the exact "packet-tracer" command used (wihtout the public IP, notice that the output contains the public IP also) and the output of the command with us here.
    Also, have you made sure that there is no old translations active on the ASA?
    You can use this command to view those
    show xlate local 192.168.1.100
    You can clear the xlates with
    clear xlate local 192.168.1.100

  • SA540 - IPSec and NAT

    Here's the scenario
    My LAN 10.10.10.0
    Local Host 10.10.10.6
    Remote LAN: 192.168.201.0
    Remote Host: 192.168.201.59
    Trying to setup a IPSec connection between two hosts.
    The other side wants to me to NAT 10.10.10.6 as 172.16.5.6
    The SA540 doesn't seem to have this feature.
    Is there a way to easily achieve that?
    Thank you

    Here is example, which might help you but you need to make sure you have the matching subnet (for bidirectional - one to one mapping)
    Configure the NAT.  Source address range of 10.9.0.0 / 24 and destinations of remote subnet (example 10.10.0.0/24)
    access-list 101 permit ip 10.9.0.0 0.0.0.255 10.10.0.0 0.0.0.255
    Create a route-map called 'static-nat' and match traffic to ACL 101:
    route-map static-nat
      match ip address 101
    Create a NAT-POOL for the public IP address (or range) you want to use to NAT to.  In this case, Im NAT'ing to 172.16.17.0:
    ip nat pool NAT-POOL 172.16.17.1 172.16.17.254 netmask 255.255.255.0
    Create a NAT rule to use the route-map 'static-nat'.  Upon a match to ACL 101, NAT that traffic to one of the NAT-POOL addresses:
    ip nat inside source route-map static-nat pool NAT-POOL Overload
    Once you have configured the NAT you need to modify the interesting traffic.  You need your 'interesting traffic'
    access-list 121 permit ip 172.16.17.0 0.0.0.255 10.10.0.0 0.0.0.255
    Define your VPN peer, apply phase II and matching ACL for interesting traffic:
    crypto map VPN 5 ipsec-isakmp
     set peer <peer ip>
     set transform-set <transform set>
     match address 121
    Apply the crypto map to the public interface and NAT on the public side:
    interface GigabitEthernet0/0
     ip nat outside
    crypto map VPN
    Configure the inside interface NAT on internal side:
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1
     ip address 10.9.0.0 255.255.255.0
     ip nat inside

  • Internal DNS server and NAT routing issue.

    Hi -- I am not terribly experienced with DNS and I am running into an issue that I can't seem to resolve. My company.com DNS information is hosted by an outside ISP for email, web, etc... but I have configured an A record there to point to the public IP to my mac os x server (server.company.com).
    We have a cisco router configured with one to one NAT from the public IP to the internal IP for our server in a 192.168.15.x subnet. The same router is running DHCP and and NAT on that subnet under a different public IP provided by our ISP.
    Our server is running DNS with recursion and has a "company.private" zone set up for internal services and machine names. Thus, the server is accessible via "server.company.com" from the outside and "server.company.private" from the private LAN.
    The problem is that I would like to be able to access some services simply via "server.company.com" both inside and outside the private network. Now, accessing the "server.company.com" services from the private lan does not work because the name resolves to the external IP and the external IP cannot be used internally due to NAT.
    Is there a way to configure my internal DNS server to respond with the appropriate private address when receiving a query only to "server.company.com" and forward requests on for anything else on "company.com"?
    I know that I could manually duplicate all entries for our domain from my ISP and host the same entries for internal clients, but it would be much easier to only have our server handle requests for itself. The server is running OS X Server 10.4.11.
    Thanks

    Is there a way to configure my internal DNS server to respond with the appropriate private address when receiving a query only to "server.company.com" and forward requests on for anything else on "company.com"?
    Ordinarily, no. Once your server thinks it is responsible for a zone (e.g. company.com) then it will answer all queries for that domain and never pass them upstream. Therefore you'd have to replicate all the zone data, including all the public records, and maintain them both.
    The one possible exception to this (I haven't tried) is to create a zone for server.company.com that has your internal address. In theory (like I said, I haven't tried this), the server should respond to 'server.company.com' lookups with its own zone data and defer all other lookups (including other company.com names since they're not in a zone it controls). Might be worth trying.

  • How to set up DHCP and NAT for QNAP NAS MyCloud service?

    I have an Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) attached to my DSL model (no router in the modem).  My QNAP NAS is attached via ethernet to the QNAP NAS.  My iMac (running AirPort Utility 6.x) is connected to the AEBS via wifi.
    I've found several folks who've tried this (and apparently succeeded) but I'm a networking novice and am having trouble making this work.  What I did was to go into the AirPort utility and in the networking section configure "DHCP and NAT" and then called out the static IP and MAC address of the QNAP NAS (as well as the ports I'd like to remain open).  However, when I did this and applied the changes, my iMac (connected to the AEBS via wifi) could no longer see the AEBS, which then required me to reset the AEBS, re-configure it back to the previous known good conifiguration and start over.  After about 5 cycles of this I gave up.
    So, what am I doing wrong here?  Do I need to go in and configure every device that is going to access the AEBS as static and call out each device's IP and MAC address? (hopefully not, that'd be a major PITA).
    Help.  Anyone?

    When I run diagnostics with the QNAP, here is the reply I get (IPs redacted):

  • RMI and NAT(windows) ?

    Hello world,
    I've got a server and client working fine on internet excepted when the client is using a share internet connection with NAT. The important thing is that everythings works fine as long as I make simple client to server connections, but I've got a
    java.net.ConnectException: Operation timed out: connect
    java.net.ConnectException: Operation timed out: connect
    Exception when the server try a callback on the client.
    I have a limited idea of how NAT ( more precisely the windows NAT) do the job, and it's clear that it is not possible to acces to a server located in a local private network behind a NAT server. But then how does ICQ fonctions ?
    If anybody had any idea about this mess, I would be interested.
    Thanks
    Benoit

    ICQ, AOL, and Morpheus all work through a NAT because they keep a socket connection alive.
    i dont believe RMI does this.
    therefore, the RMI packets go out through the NAT filter to the remote RMI server and they get sent back to the outside IP address and stop dead. they know nothing about the internal IP because RMI sends the response back on a random port number in the 3000 or so range and it might be really hard for you to map that in your NAT filter so that it knows which machine to send port 3xxx to inside of your NAT.
    i hope i am making sense.
    try using netstat or ethereal to watch how your RMI traffic talks.

    It is strongly suggested that you create a new username with privilege level

    username <myuser> privilege 15 secret 0 <mypassword>

    Replace <myuser> and <mypassword> with the username and password you want to

    vicious-git isn't in any repository, I download it from AUR. It gets properly downloaded and uncompressed, but the chroot doesn't, fails with a 'cannot execute cd : no such file or directory' Once i've got some spare time this afternoon (still early in the morning over here ) I'll try to find out why
    By the way, is there any functionality in AIF to execute a worker in a chroot on the target system ? I looked quickly through the list of workers in the automatic procedures and didn't see anything specific. Although I can configure most stuff from the configure_system worker, there are a few things where you really need to be running inside the system to configure. For example : you need to have the mysql daemon started if you want to change the password, and you need to be chrooted if you want to have all the dependencies when building a PKGBUILD If not, I was thinking of generating a bash script that would contain all my chrooted stuff, so I would only need to execute chroot once in the worker.

  • Can you specify the allowable values for vertical range and offset for the NI 5112 PCI Digitizer?

    The NI 5112 manual indicates that the vertical range can be set from +/- 25mV to +/-25V in 10% steps. Can you explain exactly what this means? (For example, could you give me a series of allowable values.)
    Also, what are the allowable values for voltage offset?
    The reason for my question is: I am specifying the vertical configuration using the niScope_ConfigureVertical() function. The observed raw (8 bit) sampling does not appear to change at all for small changes in voltage range and offset. I would like to know where the hardware breakpoints are, so that I can apply correct scaling from bits to voltage.
    In addition, I have tried to use the niScope_CheckAt
    tributeViReal64() function to "check" a value before applying it to NISCOPE_ATTR_VERTICAL_RANGE or NISCOPE_ATTR_VERTICAL_OFFSET, but it fails in the linking step in Microsoft Dev. Studio. (niScope.lib & niscope_32.lib do not seem to contain any of the CheckAttribute functions that are listed in the NI-Scope function reference.)
    Thank you for your response.

    There is a nice reference at:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/38f18d418e2433ed8625690e006bbe94?OpenDocument
    which explains that allowable voltage ranges can be expressed by the equation:
    next_range_value = range_value * 1.1 starting at +/- 25 mV.
    When a range is specified that does not match this series, the device driver rounds UP to the next value.

  • Need JavaScript for Sharepoint Designer 2010, to show a Pop-up to all the users between date range and the redirect the site

    Dear all,
    I am very new to Sharepoint designer 2010. Its better to say, i am just stepping in.
    I have sharepoint site which is accessible for all the users to update few information. But i want this site not to be accessible during a date range, say from 15th to 20th of every month.
    I am planning to have something like this: If any user tries to access this sharepoint site between 15th to 20th date range of everymonth, then the browser must show an pop-up alert saying "This site is not accessible during this date range" and Redirect
    this sharepoint site to someother site (Say http:// somesitename.xx.com) immidiately.
    I know very little about how to add Javascript in sharepoint webpart.
    Please provide the Javascript or any best alternate solution to my concern.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    From your description, my understanding is that you want to redirect sharepoint site to another site between 15th and 20th every month.
    I agree with what Sudip says. If you still want to use JS code,You could try these steps
    below:
    Open your site with SharePoint Designer.
    Click Master Pages in left navigation.
    Find file v4.master, and backup it(it is very important).
    Right click your v4.master,
    choose "Edit File in Adavance Mode".
    Add the code below into the <head/> tag.
    <script src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script
    type="text/javascript">
    $(document).ready(function(){
    var today = new Date();
    var day = today.getDate(); // get current day
    var id = _spPageContextInfo.userid; // get the id of current logon in user
    var boolFlg = false;
    $.ajax({
       url: _spPageContextInfo.webAbsoluteUrl + "/_api/web/SiteGroups/GetByName(\'"+"sharepoint Owners"+"\')/Users", //get users in a specified group can access the sharepoint site from 15th to 20th every
    month
       type: "GET",
       headers: {"accept": "application/json;odata=verbose"},
       success: function (data) {
          if (data.d.results) {
             var src = data.d.results;
             for(var i = 0; i < src.length; i++){
                if(src[i].userid==id){ //check the logon in user in  the specified group or not
                   boolFlg = false;
                   break;
             if(!boolFlg){
                if(day <= 20 && day >=15){
                    alert("This site is not accessible during this date range"); // alert the message
                    location.href = "http:// somesitename.xx.com"; // redirect to another site
       error: function (xhr) {
          alert(xhr.status + ': ' + xhr.statusText);
    })</script>

  • ACS replication and NAT

    Hi all,
    I've the following question: is it possible to set up a replication between 2 server running the same version of ACS, but with 1 server behind a PIX running static NAT (private IP address of one server is statically mapped to a public address)?
    I was able to manage the replication when the two servers on the same LAN, but when I move the second server on the private LAN I obtain error "shared secret mismatch".
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Roberto

    ACs versions 3.1 and greater will not work with replication and NAT'ing. The security of the replication process was increased in these version, and the originating server hashes it's own IP address (the non-NAT'd version of it) into the data to be used as part of the verification process.
    If the receiving server sees this from a different IP address due to the NAT'ing then it will fail and produce the "shared secret mismatch" error you're seeing.
    Sorry, no way around it unfortunately.

  • NavigateToURL and custom header change

    First, we apologize for the inconvenience the change to navigateToURL has caused you and your customers.  We typically do everything possible to keep existing content working but in this case we had no choice to make these changes given the security implications.
    This change was necessary to fix a security vulnerability (CVE-2014-0516) related to Flash Player’s handling of custom request headers that could be abused to violate the cross domain security policy (reference http://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-14.html). Successful exploitation of CVE-2014-0516 could result in sensitive information disclosure.
    We have a few suggested high level workarounds below.  In addition, we’d love to hear solutions from the community and if possible work with one or two developers to iterate on our suggestions and improve these workarounds for future documentation.  If you are interested in helping, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].
    ExternalInterface
    We have blocked custom headers from navigateToUrl() when the URLRequest is a POST.
    ActionScript could replace the use of navigateToUrl(url:URLRequest, name:String) with ExternalInterface.call(“jsNavigateToUrl”, url:String, name:String, headers:Array).
    And the HTML could implement the javascript function jsNavigateToUrl(url, name, headers) which uses window.open() to request the new window from JavaScript instead of ActionScript.
    NOTE: window.open() does not allow you to POST, but you can work around that using the stack overflow article window-open and pass parameters by post method.
    Form Data or Url Parameters
    The custom headers (that the player is now blocking) could be sent as form data, or url parameters.
    The server could be recoded to accept this alternate delivery of the data.
    If this isn’t an option (for instance, you are posting to a third party server), then your server can introduce a new url which processes the data in its new form before redirecting to the original url with the data delivered in its original form.
    This mod_rewrite + mod_headers example explains something similar:
    http://www.kahunaburger.com/2012/05/18/mod_rewrite-and-mod_headers-to-rewrite-headers/
    In addition to Apache's mod_rewrite and mod_headers, HeliconTech makes mod_headers and mod_rewrite filters for IIS.

    http://www.kahunaburger.com/2012/05/18/mod_rewrite-and-mod_headers-to-rewrite-headers/

    Our security model does not allow a movie to send HTTP headers across domains, unless the player has confirmed the receiving domain permits it with a cross domain policy file ( see Adobe ActionScript 3.0 * Website controls (policy files) ).
    With navigateToUrl() we are unable to detect server-side redirects, so we are unable to confirm the actual recipient permits HTTP headers.  To resolve this, we elected to block HTTP headers from all navigateToUrl requests.
    As noted by several customers, this has proved to be overly restrictive, so we are going to relax the restriction to allow simple headers with navigateToUrl requests.
    Simple headers are defined by Cross-Origin Resource Sharing as
    A header is said to be a simple header if the header field name is an ASCII case-insensitive match for Accept, Accept-Language, or Content-Language or if it is an ASCII case-insensitive match for Content-Type and the header field value media type (excluding parameters) is an ASCII case-insensitive match for application/x-www-form-urlencoded, multipart/form-data, ortext/plain.
    In an upcoming Flash Player build, navigateToUrl() will be changed to throw the exception only when called with an URLRequest containing non-simple headers.  We're shooting to get this change in for our July release but this will of course depend on our testing results.  We'll be getting this into a public beta as soon as possible (possibly as soon as the next week or two.)
