Hi All,
I have copied Infocube B from Infocube A, but i
have added 5 more fields (Char's) to Cube B, how to
determine whether i need to add new dimensions and
assign these fields to it or to assign them to existing
dimensions.

Hi,
Concurrent lock settings are found in the admin console under application folder. You need to change (disable) concurrent lock settings for the application you want to modify. After modification you can reenable locking.

BPC Transport Too many characteristics (024) are assigned to dimension

Hi Gurus,
We are implementing BPC Consolidation for NetWeaver 7.5, and we're facing the following situation:
Too many characteristics (024) are assigned to dimension /CPMB/Q6IW0EVD
Diagnosis
Too many characteristics are assigned to the given dimension.
For a "normal" InfoCube, the database table to be created for a dimension may contain a maximum of 249 fields. This means that no more than 248 characteristics may be assigned.
However, if the property "DIMIDs One-to-One" is set, a unique index on the characteristics of the dimension is created. In this case each dimension may not contain more than 16 characteristics.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for answering my question.
I already ran that full optimization you talked about but i dont see some changes in BW, what i can see is the shadow cube that the full optimization creates but i cant see how the full optimization solves that bunching of too many BPC dimensions on one BW cube dimension afterwards.
The fact is that when the transport order generated by BPC transaction UJBPCTR is imported into the Productive environment the error still raising, with the same description:
u201CToo many characteristics (024) are assigned to dimensionu201D
Could you help me by telling me how full optimization solves that dimension bunching? Another question is Why does the error appear until the transport order is imported and not when you are working in development?

How to assign One Dimension Property value to another Dimension ID

Business senario:
There are two dimensions Entity and Plant. Plant also has a property Entity.
In my Input Form, I need to derive Entity Property based on PLANT selection and should map it to ENTITY Dimension.
I have selected PLANT Dimension and ENTITY Dimension in Page Axis. I have updated EPMOLAPMember() formula with EPMMemberProperty() for deriving Entity values. When I tried to save data an error message appears saying TOT_Code is not a base level member. So I checked Edit Report window and found that ENTITY Dimension is automatically moved to default left panel from Row Axis and Entity Dimension Context Menu is mapped to TOT_Code which is the top node of the total hierarchy.
I tried EPMMemberOverride() function to overwrite ENTITY Dimension values with Entity Property of PLANT Dimension but unable to overwrite it.
In Simple Words:
ENTITY Dimension = PLANT Dimension (Entity Property)
Is there any way to map/assign property value to another dimension??? Please help me.

Assigning time dimension in update rule

Hi
I have a fundamental question -
What exactly is meant by creating a time dimension on a cube based on a particular date (eg- Received date)?
We have billing data coming into the cube.. so what exactly happens when you say the billing data should be based on Received date?
Should I assign the billing amount KF to Received date time characteristic in the update rule? What does it do with the data - how does it bucket it?
Also, what does it mean when you say assign calendar month to say, Load date?

Let me take your question step by step and club similar questions together
1) what does it mean when you say assign calendar month to say, Load date
Well this means that you need to put a routine for 0CALMONTH.
RESULT = sy-datum+4(2).
sy-datum would internally come as system date in the form of 20080327.So this little routine will pick 03.
2) What exactly is meant by creating a time dimension on a cube based on a particular date (eg- Received date)?
This is similar to saying billing data should be based on Received date .
Well this means that all time charecteristics like 0calday,0calmonth,0calweek etc need to be mapped to Recieved Date.This is how data will get bucketed(vitual bucketing) - for example you use 0calmonth so all orders with recieving date this month will be bucketed today and will show up in ur query if u have a variable for getting data for this month.
Automatic time conversion will be done(in BI 7.0 this happens for both DSO and Cube.Perhaps in 3.5 you need to use a formula for the ODS).
Do not map any key-figure to Received date time characteristic .You should get Received date directly from Data-source.

Creation of Multi Provider, using InfoCubes | Error in assigning dimensions

Hi All.
I am tryin to create a multi provider using five Info Cubes, sat A, B, C, D, E. Now all of them have chars and KF's. some of them are common.
I selected the relevant info providers, then in the Identification part, I selected "Select All" for Chars/ Time chars as well as KF's.
now when I am trying to Activate the Multi Provider, it says " No Dimension Assigned to InfoObject x, y, z and so. on ".
its clear that there is problem in assigning dimensions fr chars/kf's.
So in the Edit Multiprovider screen, I click on Dimensions. Then it prompts me to select "One" InfoProvider.( The options being from A, B, C, D, E) and if i select any one, (say A),the chars/KF's present in A, are getting assigned the dimensions, but the chars/kf's from other Info Cubes arent geting the dimension assigned.
what to do now? can any one help me out.please

Difference between Dimension Id and Dimension Key

I am reading the third chapter of Rittman's OBIEE book on design of Repository.
It says while building the BMM, don't drag the dimension Id columns from physical layer to logical layer as the BI Server takes care of the join for you but make sure you drag across the dimension key columns as you will need these later on to create your logical table keys.
Can someone enlighten me on what is the difference between a dimension id and dimension key (may be with an example).

Besides the theory says that a fact table can reference any level of a dimension, I couldn't do it with OWB. I don't know if there is a specific way to do that, but I only could assign a dimension detail level to a fact table.
The ID's can have different values when I use a hierarchy in a dimension. OWB generates automatically negative ID's for the more summarized levels.
For example, a product dimension with 2 levels: category and detail. If the product has 4 categories and 20 products (detail level), the table has 4 rows for categories with negative id's. Each row has a category and the fields specific for detail level are empty. The table will have other 20 rows for the detail level, with all fields filled, and all id's positive. The table will have 24 rows in the end.

Dimension creation in a cube

what considrations should be takeen while creating a dimension in a infocube?. I want to know what type of cahrs to be included in one dimension to improve reporting performance and also the cube.

Hi Ananth,
Here are few points to be considered while you model a cube
Create as many dimensions as possible.
Group similar objects in a dimension
Take care that the dimension table size does not exceed more than 20% of the fact table size.
Create a line item dimension for characterstics like sales document which have a very high granularity ratio.
Check the cardheight option while assigning the dimensions if there are relatively more number of objects in a dimension.

Lost Webform / Task List / Dimension security

Hi all
Running 11.1.2.1 - Classic Planning App with Shared Services, Essbase etc.
Mysteriously (or maybe not so), one of our two applications has lost all of its artefact level security - ie there are no longer any native groups assigned to Dimensions, Webforms or Task Lists when looking at these through Workspace. This is confirmed when users log in with their id's, as they have no access to anything.
IT team inform me that they were having some database issues this morning, during which I inadvertently carried out a refresh of this application (including security filters). This is the only thing that I can put it down to, although I still cant fathom why this would have the affect it did. Unfortunately (slaps own hand), I didnt take a backup of anything (ie security through SS) before running the refresh.
After a little testing in our development environment it looks like if I use the 'Security'/'Access Permissions'/'Groups' and 'Users' (when looking at the application through Application Groups / Default Application Group within Shared Services), I can Migrate this from a file backup over the problem application and reinstate the security to webforms etc.
However I do not have a recent file backup taken manually available to do this.....
We schedule backups of everything nightly. Is there a particular file we could pick up from last nights backup that would in essence have the same affect as doing the above?

Thanks for your response, I have asked our IT team exactly what is backed up and will see what their response is? Is it certain files that we will need to restore if doing this?

Why we cant assign attributes to the dense dim mem,
Is it bcoz
1) Essbase server was designed like this...
2)or else it will take too long time with dense dimension to calculate....

First thing is Essbase will not support assigning attribute dimensions to dense dimensions.
For why they designed like this is an interesting discussion.
My point is if we directly point attributes to dense dimensions ie we are directly pointing to data blocks for that you need a seperate index.
By Assigning Attribute dimensions to Sparse standard dimensions you are reducing the data volumes and there by increasing the performance.
generally, Accounts and time are dense dimensions.
For those two dimensions there are in built tags like Expense, Time Balance and DTS provided by essbase so that you can meet your functional requirements based on tags.
Any however There is UDAs you can assign to dense members.
By UDAs you can group the dense dimension members and based on UDA tag you can achieve the needed grouping requirement.

Minimum How many dimension required for FDM integration Script

I have only 2 dimensions in my SQL Table name dbo.ABC (Example: 1.Entity 2.Account and amount(data value)
Example:
USA, SALES, 50000
(Including value its total 3 dimensions)
How to export this data to Target HFM Application.
Integration Script got success when i click on validation it is shows only 2 dimension 1.Account 2.Entity. i have mapped correctly. but validation screen not showing anything. i got gold fish for validation button and Export is also showing success and got goldfish. but no data is exported to HFM application.
in FDM outbox its created a file which is containing only *!data* text. There is no record in this file.
I want to load the data with rest of the dimensions with [None] member combination as i don't have the additional dimensions in my source file.
Minimum how many dimension required to export the data from FDM to HFM?

I came to know, at least one member from the source file should be there in the integration script then only we can assign at least [None] member or any member for the target dimensions.
My source file having only 3 dimensions ( USA,Sales,Amount)

Costing based CO-PA extraction to DSO

Hello Expert,
I need to load the line item data to level 1 DSO. On the source system, the system has used the combination of the following key fields not allow duplicate records.
PALEDGER
VRGAR
VERSI
PERIO
PAOBJNR
PASUBNR
BELNR
POSNR
But, the datasource only includes the following fields from the source system.
PALEDGER
VRGAR
VERSI
PERIO
BELNR
POSNR
How the system is going to handle duplicate records in absence of these two fields (PAOBJNR
PASUBNR) in the datastore object (DSO) which are part of the key fields in the source system?
Please let me know about it.

Hi,
For Costing based CO-PA Extraction : Pls follow this steps.
1.Create a CO_PA Data Source in KEB0 (Costing Based) and test this extractor in RSA3.
2. On BW side , Create CO_PA cube using the info source (to which generated CO_PA data source assigned in BW) as a template,and move the chars, KF and time chars and assign the dimensions as required.
I suggest make the copy of any below existing COPA cube and then you add/ delete missing fields.

How to fix Action Link Issue in Table and Pivot Table when used Section

My OBIEE Version: OBIEE 11.1.1.6.5
Issue Description: Action links (Navigate to BI Content) doesn't work in PIVOT TABLE or TABLE object when used Section area (one or more columns in Section area).
If you want to recreate this issue please follow next steps:
1.     First of all you have to create one analyse with min 3 columns (for example Time.“Calendar date“, Product.Product, „Base Fact“. Revenue -> from Sample Sales Lite )
2.     From column properties -> Set value Action Link Interaction on some column for example Product.Product (choose Navigate to BI Content -> any created BI report )
3.     Click Results Tab choose Pivot Table and assigned one dimension column to Section area
4.     Click preview icon
5.     When you click on action link nothing happens
6.     If you drug and drop column from Section Area to Excluded, Table or Pivot table Area then Action Link works perfectly
How to fix this issue?
I'll be grateful for any help!

Why cant i print a large image on my 750c plus

I have a HP750c Plus plotter and I am trying to print plans of a vehicle that is just over a meter long. I have selected the roll option and the hieght fits the paper at 24", however I am unable to select the length to print the complete plan in one go.
I have tried custom size but again it will not allow me to select that option.
can anyone help with advice or info on how to overcome this matter. I am working on an XP machine.

Tony, I was able to work with one of these printers just a little bit ago, and here is what I found. First it depends on the program you are using and how it assigns the dimensions to the job. Genenerally when you go to print you can choose under printer preferences the dimenstions you want to print on under "Customize" for the paper size. This will let the printer know the length you want to print to.
Just to check, what is the specific program you are using?
