Assortment of problems

I'm a newbie to both Macs and laptops but a seasoned PC user so please bear with me (hey! stop groaning!)...basically my problems are:
-AIM crashing every 5-10 minutes for no apparent reason.
-inability to download a working install file for Windows Media Player for OSX -when i try running it i get a message asking to choose an application to run the file with.
-iphoto freezes about half way through loading my pictures into the library, again for no reason as it was only about 250 low res pics.
is there a better support page than the one here? maybe someone set up their own ? Thanks for any help on these issues, all is appeciated.

-I would use iChat instead of AIM. AIM isn't a universal application yet and has to run under Rosetta. You can use your AIM ID with iChat.
-Windows Media Player is not compatible. As well, I think Microsoft has ceased development of WMP for Mac. You could try using Flip4Mac (free) which allows you to play WMV within the Quicktime Player.

-For iPhoto, first make a duplicate of your iPhoto Library folder and place it somewhere else on your hard disk. Hold down the Option and Command (Apple) keys while you start iPhoto. You will be presented with some options for rebuilding the library. See if this helps.

An assortment of problems that I cant get my head round.

Okay, so Im making a basic game for a college project, and I have a few problems that really just dont make sense to me or I simply dont know how to do.

The first issue I have is that where the player spawns, a sort of invisible block is left and the player is unable to enter that area. This also happens when the trigger block is destroyed. I'm sure I've used the same code before for the same idea and it worked, but alas, this doesnt.
As you'll notice, currently the enemy code is quite complex. I was wondering if theres a way to put some code in the enemy class and set it so that if it hits a waypoint to simple reverse its direction
The third point is that, the current graphics used are obviously horrible and will be invisible when the final game is made. How do i make it so that when the blockNorm object is made, it makes say blockNormSkin at its exact location. It would be good if this is inside the blockNorm class so that it does them all automatically and I dont have to code them all indivdually.
Relating to the above point, instead of that I tried just drawing on the actual graphics I wanted to use. This resulted in the player object not working properly at all. (I know this is vague, and so if you have any idea why this happened, say and I'll try post an example of it).
I think thats everything, but I may update the post later if I remember anything. I know this is a lot, so any help about any of the points would be a great help. Thanks!

First, an important note dont use method names with uppercase as the first letter only for class names, like that:
class ShareInPortfolio - is ok
void Addshare(ShareInPortfolio s) - should be: void addShare(ShareInPortfolio s)
there is a convesion for the JAVA language.
Second: unitTest method is a part of a class, so make it static method and rename the name from UnitTest to unitTest and call it like this: CLASSNAME.unitTest

Problems after upgarde to flash 11.3

Hi,
I have a flex application that has always worked fine for me, however i recently upgraded to version 11.3 of flash player.
This has created some problems that I hope someone can help me with.
I sometimes(its very eratic) get the following error:
Unable to load WSDL. If currently online, please verify the URI and/or format of the WSDL (http://127.0.0.1:8080/cm-ear-cm-ria/RiaUserWorkspaceControllerFacade?wsdl)
I am using Flex 4, and I get this error on all browsers, i tested it on IE, Firefox, Chrome and even Opera. It comes and goes, so I dont really know what is causing it.
If anyone has encountered this issue before or knows what is wrong, please help.

Hi. Welcome to the Mac support forum. I haven't experienced this problem myself so I think this is probably a personal problem.
I would start out with all the generic troubleshooting tricks. These seem to help in many cases.
Open disk utility, select your HD and choose repair permissions. When this is completed, shut down the computer. Remove the battery and hold down the power button for 10 seconds. reinstall battery and restart the computer while holding Command-Option-P-R.After you hear the startup chime 3 times, release the keys and allow the computer to complete starting.
See if this fixes any problems that you have. These generic fixes have helped fix an assortment of problems but sometimes they do nothing at all. But they're a good first step with almost any problem.

How much has to go wrong before Apple replaces a dud?

My partner has just bought a new black macbook 2ghz 2gig ram
- and within the first 2 weeks we noticed:
The battery is dead (shuts down at once if power is disconnected -no charge at all)
The headphone socket is broken - a headphone jack doesn't kill the speaker output or receive signal.
The airport seems faulty - it doesn't see networks that her brothers macbook in the same position picks up and will connect to.
She travels a lot - the macbook was bought in LA, we tried to get a replacement battery in London, and are now back in OZ trying to get these issues sorted.
Is there any point in pushing for a replacement from apple?

My experience in getting a replacement was a very good one. My MB arrived and -- within minutes -- had killed the hard drive in my iBook set up in target disk mode. It had multiple and repeated kernel panics and assorted other problems, such as not being able to get online at all.
Within two days, I'd been promised a brand-new replacement and sent a box to send in the original. They also made the drive in the iBook good and bent over backwards to be helpful and accommodating.
I think the trick was to be polite and not resort to yelling or berating the tech I spoke to. Good manners seem to beget cooperation. <G> I now have a MacBook with which I am extremely happy. Best of luck to you!

IMac freezes when changing the screen saver

Hi all:
I originally posted this in the "Using Mac OS X" forum (iMac freezes when changing the screen saver, but thought I'd post here as well since the issue arises on a freshly installed OS.
We've got three 350MHz slot-loading G3 iMacs (with 512MB RAM) which we're planning to use for basic word processing. The install of Panther (10.3.5 from black retail cds with 10-seat volume license) went fine on the first two. Ran the updates to 10.3.9, installed MS Office 2004, everything working great (they're a little slow, but after all, they are only 350 MHz).
On the third, the first problem we noticed was the computer would lock up whenever we changed the screen saver from the default (Flurry; Computer Name also works). It continues to do so even after: repair permissions; repair disk; Disk Warrior; reset pram; reset nvram; reset pmu; change RAM; change hard drive; erase hard drive; write zeros to hard drive; reinstall with different set of retail CDs; trash preferences, and delete cache files. (If there's anything I've left out, it's in the other thread).
Now we've noticed that we can't create any new user accounts. We've thought about putting this one in production, just warning the user that they can't change the screen saver, but god only knows what will turn up next.
I'm starting to think it's a logic board issue, but could it be that selective? And would you see the same problem with another hard drive and different install discs? Am I missing something?

I'm going to mark this one as answered.
I removed the hard drive from the iMac, and put it into another 350 MHz iMac, and everything works great. I can select any screen saver without having it freeze, create new accounts, whatever my little heart desires.
In checking the history of the problem iMac, there was an assortment of problems with booting (both from the hard drive and from the CD-ROM drive) which were never satisfactorily resolved. The problems just seemed to go away after sitting unplugged for a few days, as much as for anything we actually did to it.
Now we just have to decide whether it's worth fixing, or using it somewhere in a non-critical role with OS 9 installed.

Stream 7 (win) will not let me set it up. Did I get a used machine?

Hi. I unboxed my Stream 7 (win), plugged it in to charge like the instructions said, returned four hours later to find a colorful screen with the wrong time (example: 11:52 when it is actually 4:54 pm). There is no set-up function like the instructions say (I also looked at a tutorial online - this is nothing like the tutorial). Instead I get a blue screen with a blank log-in saying "other user" and no virtual keyboard to enter any data. What gives? Did I receive a used tablet? Seriously, I'm not even to number 3 on the instructions. I attempted to restore the original factory settings but the machine said it was unable to do so. This is not the user experience I was expecting.

If holding the volume down button while powering on and pressing F11 for System Recovery does not work, you might try running the battery all the way down (or unplugging the battery) to reset the CMOS. More detail is here. I have seen that fix System Recovery and assorted startup problems. If that does not work, you might just return it for a replacement.

Has anyone installed Leopard on Original Powerbook G4?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask if anyone has installed Leopard on their original Powerbook G4, 17"
with 1G Ram and 1Gz Processor? Does anyone think it will work okay? or will it slow the computer down? Thanks for answering in advance.

I've been itching to buy a nice new 17" MacBook Pro but in light of Apple's apparent big slide in MB Pro's quality control, I'm putting it off for a while.
There's no shortage of folks who are having problems with them; just check the MacBook Pro threads, here.
And four of my five friends in the film animation industry who have purchased MacBook Pros in the past year have had to return them due to defects, i.e. screen problems, fan problems, overheating problems, keyboard problems, assorted other problems.....some are already on their 3rd MB Pro and STILL no joy.
It seems that getting a problem free MacBook Pro right out of the box is a total crapshoot. Certainly outrageous for a $2800 machine.
So I'm waiting, and keeping my fingers crossed, in hope that the quality control issues are remedied. But, God, I want one really badly!

SLiM and ConsoleKit: enable CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL in your kernel!

This forum has seen a number of threads concerning SLiM and ConsoleKit problems over the last few days, many of them involving yours truly suggesting replacing SLiM with a different display manager such as LXDM.
Now, slim IS in fact an abandoned piece of software (both upstream and currently also with respect to archlinux specifically) and as such, replacing it with something else is still an eminently sensible thing to do -- but I've just happened upon what seems to be the core of the problem for those of us who were in fact having these ConsoleKit problems. SLiM relies on the pam_ck_connector.so module for its interaction with ConsoleKit and since consolekit-0.4.2 really needs CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL enabled in the kernel. That option enables /proc/$PID/sessionid and it's that ID which the module uses to determine if a session is local. Without the /proc file present, you would see two sessions in the output of ck-list-sessions (run from a terminal in X) neither of which had both active=TRUE and is-local=TRUE, but with it present, the session with x11-display-device='/dev/tty7 will in fact have active=TRUE and is-local=TRUE.
Until very recently, this problem was hidden from view for many of us by local polkit files installed by xfce4-session and thunar and only surfaced when the current versions of these packages deleted those local tweaks, relying on a correct ConsoleKit setup to keep things working. Symptoms of it not working anymore ranged from all of a sudden being unable to reboot and shutdown from the XFCE logout dialog, Thunar having assorted mounting problems, Brasero failing to eject after a burn and so on. I just checked, and the arch default kernel does have CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL enabled which means that the problem should, largely, be considered to have been just a user problem. Now, frankly, with this stuff as poorly documented as it is, I won't hold it against me, but still...
If you're like me, you probably won't actually enjoy LXDM much and now that I know what the problem is, I'll probably go back to SLiM for the time being. Do note the bit about SLIM being a dead project though, and decide for yourself.

Assorted Free Goods Problems in Sales Order

Hello All,
The problem is related to Assorted Free Goods Pricing in Sales Order.I have two queries which are provided below with example:-
In the sales order I am giving 2 Line Items. -
Material A & Material B of total quantity 10PC Then 1 PC of the Material C as 3rd line item
in the sales order is populated which is maintained as an assorted free good having Manual Free Item Category for eg. ZFV5.
Similarly line items A & B combined of 10 PC = 1 PC of Material C having Manual Free Item Category for eg. ZFV5.
Again if 10 PC of Material A or B are chosen respectively = 1 PC of Material C having Manual Free Item Category for eg. ZFV5 .
_Now I want to configure the following**_ -
1) The system will include the cost of the Assorted Free Good Item within the Main Item.
2) While raising a Sales Return Order for the above mentioned Sales Order it is observed that the manual free item category ZFV5 is changed to the Return Main Item Category whereas I want the item category to be picked up is Return Free Item Category against the Manual Item category .
Now considering the above scenarios please suggest solutions to attain my requirement.

As far as what i understood from your post your requirement doesnt seem to be possible in standards
If you want the cost to be transferred to the main item then in VTFL at item level there is a check box of cumulative cost
That has to be ticked
Constraintsin free goods in R3
Free goods can only be supported on a 1:1 ratio. This means that an order item can lead to a free goods item. Agreements in the following form are not supported: u2018With material 1, material 2 and material 3 are free of chargeu2018 or u2018If material 1 and material 2 are ordered at the same time, then material 3 is free of chargeu2018.
Free goods are not supported in combinations with material structures (for example, product selection, BOM, variants with BOM explosion).
Free goods are only supported for sales orders with document category C (for example, not quotations).
Free goods are not supported for deliveries without reference to a sales order.
Free goods cannot be used in make-to-order production, third-party order processing and scheduling agreements.
If you defined a free goods for variants in a generic article (only SAP Retail), you can only process the variants in the purchase order and goods receipt individually (as single articles). In other words, you cannot process them using the generic article matrix.

Problem in assigning sites in General assortment

I am using IS retail, and i am trying to create one general assortment, I need to assign all my sites
in the assortment user screen, However the customerNosite column is in display mode and i am not able to enter my sites.

Problem with Listing of Articles in Assortment Management

Hi,
I am new to SAP IS Retail. In fact new to SAP itself.
I was working on Assortment Management.
I created my own Merch. Category and created products under them.
In Assort.Management I progressed in following way [ as mentioned in the Best Practices document ] -
1. I have created a General Assortment using WSOA1[The layout module was also created immediately].
2. I created the layout module version using WLMVN
3.Article assignment to layout module and assortment using WLWBN.
4. Assigned the assortment user [ through WSOA6]
5. Release layout module and created listing condition[ by WLWBN again]
6. When I do listing for the articles under the assortment , it shows me the message - listing is started.
But if I see in WSL11 with the Merch. Category / Assortment name, the system says - No listing condition found.
Question is - What could be the issue here ?
It would be really helpful if anyone can sort this issue out. I am stuck at this point.

Assorted Problems with iPod Nano 4th gen and iTunes

So i am currently experiencing several problems. Let me break it down so that it might help you understand what's going on.
#1 When dragging music files to my ipod in itunes, an error message popped up stating some sort of file reading/writing error, i forgot exactly what it said.
#2 iPod starts randomly reseting itself when it changes to a new song. sometimes reseting itself right after the main menu comes back up. It also does this while connected to my JVC KD-AVX44 stereo in my car via USB and while listening normally by headphones.
#3 I tried restoring it in itunes, after the restore software was downloaded, an error message appeared stating that the ipod could not be restored.
#4 itunes begins to not recognize iPod
#5 itunes freezed when brought up, still not recognizing the ipod.
#6 itunes crashes? It came up with a window asking for an itunes library to continue, selected just "my music" instead, no files labeled .itl in that. clicked cancel, itunes dosn't come back up.
I'm hoping there's something simple that i'm missing here, can anyone help?

I think i'll try reinstalling itunes tonight, i tried using some of the tips in these articles to reinstall my usb drivers etc, as i still can't get my ipod to restore. apple store will be the next step.

Also, (common question) what's the easiest way to get music into your itunes library automatically if downloading from another source. i just dragged all my previous music from "my music" when i got the nano, i'd just been using WMP before. and i can't seem to find a way to automatically have itunes pick up this stuff. kind of a pain in the behind to drag it all.

Many sudden and assorted problems

Hi there, i just got a new qosmio x505-q983 about a week ago. i have already posted about thew touchpad not working, but now mere hours later i seem to be having some more severe problems. the first thing to go was the touchpad around lunchtime today, without provocation it simply stopped responding at all. a few hours later, the in-built keyboard stopped responding as well. but now here comes the kicker, when i rebooted the computer didnt seem to see the HDD, the light didnt flash and instead of going into windows the toshiba screen comes up then goes black. about one in every ten times it will go into windows, but it is proving very hard to figure out the problem without the use of the keyboard. i have already tried system restore from within windows, and restoring the laptop to factory settings is a last resort as i have valuable data stored on it and i have yet to make a backup. any help resolving this set of most frustrating problems would be greatly apreciated.

Assorted MSI Neo-2-S mainboard problems

I just bought a MSI NEO-2-S Mainboard. I unwrap it and the first thing I see is a sticker on the AGP slot that says "1.5volt ONLY".
I cannot find *ANY* information to tell me how many volts my MSI video card is..
I have a MSI Geforce 4 TI-4200 card (64mb version). I need to know if it is 1.5 volt or not, or how many volts, so I don't burn my new mainboard.

Now I am having a different problem. The motherboard will not power up.
It is a 300 watt power supply, should that not be sufficient?
I unhook everything..floppy, fans, hard drive..still no power up.
I try putting ram in different slots, still no power up. Nothing. Not even on that optional connector on the back with 4 LEDs to indicate system status.
I can't figure out what's wrong here. Usually when a mobo will not power up it is improperly seated video card, ram, or some combination thereof.
I have reseated the ram and video card to no avail. I have tried the RAM in slots 1&3, 1&2, and 2&4.
One other quirk is while this IS a P4 PS because it has the 12V CPU power hookup (the 4 connector one) there is no "power switch" or "reset switch" wire(s) to go to the motherboard. Should that cause a problem? I had a P3-350 in there just fine prior to putting in the Neo-2-S, it never had any problems needing that wire. Do I need a new case?

Can anyone help..I've never had so much trouble with components before. :/ I build PC's all day long at work, never had problems like these. This is my first Pentium 4.
I can't get the mainboard to power up, period..we're not even to the point it could POST, because no power..
I have no spare parts to swap in to see if anything is DOA..and if I start playing "guess which item to send back" it's going to get very costly in restocking fees. :/

Many assorted disk access problems

There are alot of issues I need to put down so heres the list:
-When updating my iPod, iTunes will stop transferring songs randomly. It doesn't stop the update process, just waits there, transferring the same song for hours.
-My external disks aren't recognized most of the time. I have to keep disconnecting them and reconnecting them, and mounting them again. They are USB and Firewire, and I connect them directly to the ports in the back, and also through a USB hub.
-My computer will randomly decide to not come back after a screen saver. It will normally spin the hard drive up, and then open the login window. Sometimes it doesn't spin the hard drive up, it just sits there with a black screen.
-Boot Camp no longer runs. It says my startup disk cannot be split, and says I should repair the disk. When I do so, nothing is repaired.
-While I was writing this post, this error just came up: "Read/Write Error. Error detected while accessing /Volumes/MegaworM's iPod." I wouldn't get this error if it was only my startup disk that was messed up, right?
What is going on? ALL of my disks can't be corrupted, can they? I mean, even my iPod?

Are you connecting all of your devices to your Mac through a USB hub by any chance?
If so, has it got an option to be powered or is it relying on the power supply from your Mac?
I've seen this happen on a Windows PC before when the user didn't have the power lead plugged into their USB hub which they connected everything through. Symptoms sound the same.
