I'm not sure whether this will help on MAC, but on some Linux platforms there's a similar problem, which is related to the JAVA environment. The given solution is:
1. Log in as the user who is going to install the Oracle software
2. export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
3. Remove any references to JAVA from your environment settings. For example, if your PATH
contains, /usr/bin/java, remove it. Make sure there is no reference to any Java environment.
4. In oraparam.ini from Disk1/install/ change to:
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx400m"
from
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx300m"
5. If OUI asks for JDK_HOME, manually specify the same. If required, ask your system administrator
for the location of JAVA installation.

my windows(8.1 64bit) partition is read only from the mac(yosemite) side of things. Anybody have a clue on how to fix this? Also, slightly frustrating as well, windows crashes every time I attempt to open a file from the mac partition.
All Office applications will also try to open a temporary work file in the same location as the source file. This implies the source file directory also needs to be writable for this temporary file. Since the default HFS+ driver provides only read-only access, such temporary files will fail to open, and will cause the application to fail.
As a test copy the file you want to edit, say an Excel spreadsheet from the OSX file system to the C: drive on the Windows side and try to open it. If you look in this directory, you should see two files, the source and a temporary file. You may have to force the temporary file to be opened on a read-write file system, by manipulating the folder for temporary files. -
I am attempting to replace a failed hard drive on a F500 Vista laptop. I have a home premium recovery DVD (1 of 1) and It runs the recovery after a while of loading, and it creates a 24GB partion and loads about 2.6Gb of information on it. the it ejects the disc and asks if I have any suplimental disks, which I don't have. Then it reboots it's self and cycles through reboots for 5 hours, yes I let it do this for 5 hours as the HP site says it could take several hours.
After this I finally shut down the computer and loaded the hard drive in an ext case and retrieved the above information. I also note that the 250GB drive is shown as a 24GB drive, so I guess it hasn't completed the partions?
I never get to a Vista window.
This hard drive does pass the laptop's Bios hard drive check (the former 80GB drive did NOT) and was used to store Old Time Radio shows, until I went to a larger drive.
The Laptop has a dual core Athlon TK-53 processor and the recovery disc is for 32 bit Vista (and the label in front and license on back don't state Vista 64, just Vista)
So, Do I need a Vista 64 recovery disc? Should I download the available driver on the HP site and slap in that disc when the Recovery disc finishes and asks for supplimental discs? Might thngs indicate other issues with the laptop?
I've loaded from scratch XP several times, but this is my 1st Vista experience. Thank you for any help!Okay. So I was able to install, and format the new internal HD. Was able to install Lion then Mavericks. Next, is to try to retrieve my data from my failing old HD. I bought an enclosure (sled), and have my HD hooked up to my laptop, and it finally showed up in Finder. So. Now. What is next? I am seeing a screen that shows these folders: Applications (translate for the PC me = Programs), Library (I am assuming?? these are my various files such as docs, photos, music, etc.) System, opt, and Users. Should I just try to drag and drop some/all of the folders onto my desktop, then open up the folders and do something with the contents? Sorry to sound so vague and frankly, rather dumb-sounding, but the nomenclature with a Mac is a bit different than with a PC, and Finder is a little different looking to me than Windows Explorer. I am relieved to see that I was even able to get this failing drive to show up in the first place, so I feel a little like I could be on borrowed time with it. I think it may just be bad sectors, since I don't hear any clicking or other mechanical issues with the drive as it spins. But, any further help with retrieving the data would be VERY much appreciated!!

I am getting a Changing Password Failed error when I try to join an active directory
I had a working AD configuration under Snow Leopard. When I upgraded to Mountain Lion, my account was no longer in sync with the domain. I got the red dot on the login screen and my domain password was out of sync. I unhooked from the domain at that point. This was several months ago.
However, over the last few weeks, I keep finding myself locked out of the domain. I suspect it's something on my Mac that is trying to use my old credentials. I was hoping to rejoin the domain and see if I could get my account back in sync. When I get a domain admin to enter his password on the Directory Utility join screen, it first notes that the computer account already exists in the domain. I tell it to continue, but I can't get past this point:

Hi all,
I'm investigating cause of a wedged wiki this morning. The MacMini (10.7.5) was working well for the last year but we're not sure when it gave up the ghost.
I've already applied the fixes detailed at Mac OS X v10.5, Mac OS X Server v10.5: Web, Mail, Wiki, Personal Web Sharing, Parental Controls services may not start after restoring a Time Machine backup but it has't helped.
The error we see when we visit the top level of the server is:

ITunes 10.4.fails to launch, (mac OS10.58), error 13001
Hi, I'm a newbie to these forums.
My iTunes 10.4.1 fails to launch, (mac OS10.58), error 13001.
Fault appears specific to my user account.I want to fully uninstall every itunes related software component, then re-install.
Where can I find reliable extensive instructions for full uninstall?
My web searches have not located an accurate/extensive support page, but I'm sure such information has been posted before.
Previous uninstall/re-install attempts have failed, I suspect due to overlooked iTunes related files remaining in the system.
Have given up trying to correct the fault many times before, after too many wasted hours.
I have not been able to synch iPhone since some time in 2010, when the error first presented.
Now I need to unlock iPhone to migrate to another network, which requires use of iTunes.
Any expert advice would be appreciated!
maker_auHi Folks,
Moving the iTunes app as suggested above did not solve the problem for me. However, a post in another discussion suggested:
first deleting the iTunes.app file from the applications folder
then downloading & reinstalling a fresh copy of iTunes from:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I tried this suggestion and found that deleting the app & reinstalling a fesh copy did solve the problem on both of my affected systems. (I backed up my iTunes library beforehand to be safe, but my iTunes library was unaffected by the reinstall.)
Hope this works for you. Good luck! -
Password fail message from iCloud
I Am submitting this question for my cousin, who is receiving a Password Fail message on her iPad, iPhone and MacBook. Just recently she changed her password to her Apple ID because of a possible security attack with her printer. Since then she has been receiving Password Fail Messages from iCloud. Since iCloud uses Apple ID as a login mechanism, she is unable to initiate a question to this forum.
she attempted to reset her password but when she did, she received a Security question, which she answered but she received a failure notification that her answer was incorrect. I recommended she try again and she received the same fail notification and now she is locked out And still receiving password Fail notifications.
IIs there anything this forum can recommend to remove the Fail alerts? It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message to Apple.

Discoverer Desktop (4)- Receiving error Attempt to Open Workbook Failed
Hi,
The reason for this error is multiple people are opening same workbook. This has never been a problem before as the user would receive message: "Open Workbook as Read Only..."
Now they only get the message: "Attempt to Open Workbook Failed."
We have tested here and have determined it is not a generell issue because we have the problem only on two workstations.
I check the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER for diffenerence between the workstations but without any success.
There is no file access problem
Any idea?
Thx
ArndHi all,
We are having exactly the same problem. I've come to the point that there's a problem between Discoverer Desktop 4i and XP SP3.
The scenario we have is:
a) If an user with SP2 creates a workbook and saves it into the network shared folder,
a.1) It can be opened by users with SP2 as many times as the want. They just receive the "Open Workbook as Read Only" warning message.
a.2) Users with SP3 can open it only if the workbook is not open by any other user. After that all users receive the "Attempt to Open..." error message.
a.3) If a user with SP3 makes any change to the workbook and saves it, it doesn't matter which SP version you have, the file becomes "corrupt" and only one user can open it at the same time.
b) If an user with SP3 creates a workbook and saves it into the network shared folder it can only be opened by one user at the same time
I've also made tests and the same error occurs if the .dis file is located in a local directory (c:\My Documents for example). I can not open it twice in my computer in two different discoverer desktop instances, and I have SP3, while another user with SP2 can.
Any ideas? Our Discoverer Desktop version is 4.1.48.06.00

The third is to open system preferences.
go to international
under languages: drag any of the other languages to the top, then drag english back to the top.
make sure "order for sorted lists" is set to english

then restart.
I hope this helps you as it certainly did me. :^) -
