Attempted phishing e-mail

Hey,
I just recieved an e-mail impersonating Skype.  They did a pretty good job, it is a "welcome to skype" e-mail using a name token very closely resembling my own.  Pretty obvious that ALL the links in the e-mail would lead an unsuspecting person to get their account phished.
Not sure what I can do other than give you guys a heads up, it slipped past Gmail's spam filter--should be a red flag.

  • I am getting an error message on all devices when attempting to access mail.

Although I have made no changes to an account I have used for over 5 years now, I suddenly am getting error messages on my iPhone, my wife's iPhone, my iPad, and my laptop when attempting to download mail from my account. The messages are all server or password related. I logged into iCloud.com and while everything else is functioning correctly, attempting to access mail yielded an error message as well (with the option of reporting the error to Apple). Obviously this is a server issue, but I don't see any other postings online, so am uncertain how wide-spread the problem is. I need recommendations regarding the most efficient way of reporting this problem to Apple in order to access my email as soon as possible!!
I have put myself in the express lane for assistance later today, but don't know how helpful that route will be! My devices show that the last time mail could be accessed was yesterday at 8:20 PM.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Same issue here in WI and for me it was at 6:36p CST.
I'm changed my password, removed iCloud from my phone ... tried 3G and WIFI with no luck. I also cannot check it on my Mac or iPad. I was able to get contacts and calenders back on my phone but no mail yet.
Did the whole Apple support thing and apparently I'm part of the 1%
EDIT: Question: are all of you former MobileMe users as well? Just wondering because I know there were going to be some changes as they completely move MobileMe over to iCloud and drop the "extra" services. I just can't remember if it was just a single cut off date or a series of dates. THAT email is stuck in my iCloud folders.

  • I use Yahoo mail - when I attempt to get mail I get the message "Connection to Server Failed."

I use Yahoo mail on my iPad Air - when I attempt to get mail I get the message "Connection to Server Failed."

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
Are you trying to access your mail on your regular internet connection or on a new one? I know I have issues accessing my yahoo mail via the mail app if I'm on and AT&T hotspot.  But if I use safari to go in via the mobile site (m.yahoo.com)  I can access my mail. And yahoo also has their own mail app. So the 'how' may help find the issue.
If it's a new to you hotspot then the best way to fix it may just be to work around it (using safari)
Another thing to do could be to go into the settings, mail, contacts and calendars and delete your yahoo address then exit out, go back in and add the account back. Sometimes things get confuzzled and the best way to fix it is just to start over. Doing this should not effect your  mail account, it just deletes it off your device and then adds the info back in.

  • Feature change phishing e-mail?

I received an e-mail verifying the changes I made to my features but I never made any changes.  The e-mail was also translated from Slovak to English.  I didn't click any of the links and forwarded it to the Verizon phishing e-mail.  However, I tried to move to my junkmail and gmail wanted me to verify that I wanted to unsubscribe from Verizon Wireless so now I'm worried something actually was changed.  Has anyone else received a phishing e-mail like this?

Question? Did you happen to block a phone number or a text from contacting you?
If you did the feature change was you using the blocking service.
I often received those feature change messages when I placed or removed numbers from my block list.
    Just a thought.

  • HT4933 Does Apple want a copy of the Phishing e-mail I get ?

Is there an e-mail address where I can forward what appears to be  Phishing ?

The following is from this Apple document:iCloud: Why am I getting junk mail (spam)?
    Report junk mail
You can report junk mail to the mail administrators of both iCloud and the Internet domain from which the email was sent. If the administrators can verify that the message is junk mail, they can help make sure that future messages from that sender aren't delivered to your mailbox. Follow the instructions for your email client:
    OS X Mail
Open the message and choose “Forward as Attachment” from the Message menu.
Forward the message to iCloud [email protected]
Forward the message again to abuse@domain, replacing domain with the part of the sender's email address after the @ symbol. For example, if the sender's email address is [email protected], forward the message to [email protected]

  • Phishing E-mail - Clicked Link - Aargggh!

    Hi there,
    Sorry to bother you all.
I have used a Mac for 10 years and NEVER done anything as dumb as this. Total brain-melt moment so please don't crucify me too much - I feel stupid enough as it is...
This morning I got an e-mail supposedly from Apple telling me that "Your Apple ID was used to sign in to iCloud on an iPhone 5".
I don't know what was happening - phone calls were coming in, people were talking to me, the dog was barking, I was still half asleep - whatever - I clicked the link. It took me to a page that "looked" like Apple's site asking for my username and password. I 100% DID NOT enter my details. I realised immediately what an idiot I'd been and I then closed the page and deleted the e-mail.
I'm running Mavericks 10.9.1 - the OSX is up to date. Some of the software needs updates running (Pages, Keynote etc.) so that's not up to date but was new with the Mac a month ago. All the security settings are still at the default (I bought this Mac about a month ago) and the Firewall was on.
I have reset my Apple details and my computer's logon password. I've also cleared all cookies from Safari.
Am I in any danger from simply clicking the link even if I didn't enter my details? I've just installed Sophos and am running a scan but is there any chance a keystroke capture could have been installed or anything? If the Sophos scan comes up clear is that enough to be sure or is there anything else I should do / run?
Any help would be seriously appreciated. I feel such an idiot but I'm worried to carry on using the Mac for work until I'm certain there can't be any issues.
I have already searched and found several people who've asked similar questions but I couldn't find a definitive answer as to what I should do to be 100% safe.
    Thanks,
    Ian

    You're safe.

  • Is this a scam/phishing e-mail asking me to re-validate my contacts/calendar with my Google account?

    Hi BB team,
I've received apparently a genuine e-mail from : [email protected] , advising me that I should to go into my e-mail account setting to re-validate my gmail account in order that it can synchronize again with my contacts and calendar. So far so good, I went into e-mail setup, and at the same time I went into the settings of my master google account in the browser, in order to get a new code/password to do the link through Chrome, so I did it and then I entered the new password in the e-mail setup of the phone and perfect...BUT seconds later, I received again from the same direction another email with this subject:
Gmail Authorization Required, with this subject:
For security reasons, Google requires you to authenticate [removed] with them at the following URL to allow syncing of your contact and calendar information:
    [removed]
You have 60 minutes from the receipt of this message before the URL above expires.
If the URL expires you will have to disable and enable contacts and calendar from Email Setup on your BlackBerry Device to receive a new URL.
    Thank you for choosing BlackBerry.
When I click that link, my smartphone's browser activated itself, showing me directly a google page with the two fields to fill: login and password. I don't know, maybe I'm a little paranoic with this weird mail, but I've never see this before, Blackberry doing security procedures through the browser, weird!
Is it secure? is a new procedure?
    Thanks
MOD EDIT: Removed personal information to comply with Community Guidelines and Terms and Conditions of Use.

First, you should not post personal info like your email address. This is a public forum. I'm a user like you.
All I can say is what you describe is new to me. I see the BlackBerry, com domain in that link, but I don't understand it. I have received a message before, of course, to revalidate an email, but it was a simple matter of going into setup and entering the password for the email account.

  • Error message when attempting to send mail

ERROR MESSAGE An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Banned - Please check your envelope from address. Please check the message recipient and try again.
Have been using Thunderbird with no problems until last week - internet provider is suggesting problem at our end rather than their server but I'm not sure...
    Any clues?

The message is from the server. Your email provider should be able to tell why they have flagged you as 'Banned'.

  • AOL offline message when attempting to send mail on new Macbook air yosemite OS despite fixes. Not sure how to fix.

I have MAcBook Air MD760B/B- new today! 1.4GHz 13 inch with intel core i5 inside.
    Has Yosemite OS
I can receive AOL mail and send it through webmail but not through the apple mail. Am receiving it but despite looking at preferences, checking correct portal setting in advanced box for SMTP settings,  I am still receiving a message saying "Cannot send message using server AOL"
    Any suggestions very gratefully received!

    Hello clare213,
As I understand it you are able to get mail but cannot send it with your AOL account. I would use the Connection Doctor to help isolate what is the missing link so to speak:
    Use Mail Connection Doctor

  • Phishing e-mail

Yes I know someone has to be stupid. A friends e-mail was hacked and I opened the email that his mail sent and clicked on the link. Never mind I thought a Blackberry is safe? A few hours later and a alarm from Box "not signed in" which has me worried?? I have contacted the tec support of my carrier to ask how to scan for malware, they recommended a viris scanner not compatable with BB10 on blackberry world, so no hope there!
So my question is. Is my Z10 safe from malware. the Ip of the site was 107.183.127.50
I am new so be gentle
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your Z10 is safe from malware. Malware CANNOT install itself on your BlackBerry without your consent.
Just remember, you might have chosen your BlackBerry for pretty looks but it's got more than that going for it.
    Cheers.

  • Spoof e-mail

I have been trying to confirm my bank account for a while. I tried again yesterday to get some help. Last night I got an e-mail from paypal saying that she was doing something to confirm my bank account and I would be notified within 72 hours. So, I was like .. great. Finally someone is helping me.      Then this morning, I got an e-mail from a bank claiming to associated with paypal. The link  in the e-mail redirected to a website that asks for very personal information. So, I closed it. Then I forwarded the e-mail to spoof @ paypal.com - they responded saying with the 'You're right!  This was a phishing attempt'' or whatever the exact words are.. So, I was nervous about that, and I was thinking.. How does the person who sent this phishing e-mail know that I'm trying to confirm my bank account with paypal? Or was it a coincidence? Then I let it go and forgot about it. Then I had a phone call, no voicemail was left and I had missed it. I googled the number and it was associated with paypal according to a bunch of people who aren't really reliable sources.  Then not long after the phone call, I got another e-mail from paypal (webform @ paypal.com)  saying that he had tried to call me to help me confirm my bank account, and I should call him back to set it up. I called, but in the meantime, I got suspicious because of the first e-mail/phishing attempt from that mornign - so while on hold on the phone, I forwarded that e-mail to [email protected] to see if it checked out as legit. Seeing how I was calling these people to confirm my bank and I would probably have to give sensitive information. I got the e-mail back from spoof, and it said AGAIN that the new e-mail was a phishing attempt - the e-mail that told me to call the people I was on hold with right then. I replied to that e-mail from spoof @ paypal.com and I said: Are you sure? I'm on the phone waiting on hold for someone now. I really
need to get my bank account verified.. If this is a legit call then I
really need to do it. And I already gave the last 4 digits of my social
security number. This is the second e-mail that I've gotten saying it's
a phishing attempt. How did they get my number if it's a scam? They
called me first [later on, paypal replied to ^my reply and identified my reply as a phishing attempt, too... yeah.. seriously...] So, a customer service guy picked up the line, and I didn't know what to do at that point. I didn't know what to say to him, so I just tried to explain what had kind of happen and asked him to somehow verify that he is really from PayPal. It was going around in circles and I was trying to explain it to him.. like.. ''Yeah, the e-mail does look legit, but PayPal just told me that the e-mail that told me to call YOU is a scam attempt.. meaning you're the scammer.. Because the scam e-mail told me to call you.. and here we are.'' Basically..  he needed to confirm who I was before he could tell me anything and I needed to confirm who he was before I would tell him anything. He offered to forward me to the fraud department and I was like .. wait, but if you're a scammer then what good is the ''fraud department'' going to do for me? and he was like, if I'm a scammer then why would I connect you  to the fraud department.. and I was like anyone could claim to be the fraud department.. ya know?  Anyway..  I confirmed the piece of information that he wanted because that was going nowhere. and because the info wasn't something majorly sensitive.. so that he could then confirm to me who he was.. I guess.. So, after that, I asked him to confirm something from my paypal and he did. and he told me all the information on my PayPal account, and he knew everything. So I said okay, I believe you that you're PayPal. We went through the bank confirmation stuff - allthewhile I still feel weird about the whole thing, plus I feel like he thinks I'm a lunatic. But I still have this little voice going, ''But why did spoof @ paypal.com say that he's phishing..?'' and ''How could they possibly identify their own e-mail as a scam...?'' Then he said my bank account was confirmed, so I was like.. Ok, let me just look while you're on the phone with me and check to see that my bank account is confirmed on my PayPal account. Because if it wasn't, there would be a big problem. My bank account WAS confirmed - something I've been trying to do for like 6 months, so I was really happy. And that was that. But here I am.... still wondering.... what just happened...?????

Along with some good advice Leonn1990 wrote:
...You can forward the email to BT, the email address to forward it too is [email protected]..
Reporting spam to [email protected] ought to be a good idea, but I doubt it because that address responds with a long email that starts by saying BT will do nothing unless the spam comes from one of its customers - and that's unusual. Very entertaining, though, because that email is itself trapped by the Yahoo spam filter. It looks as though that address is for reporting fellow customers who misuse the BT email system, not for spammers.
This BT help page (currently linked from the Forums home page) tells us to use address [email protected] That at least returns a very encouraging response, though this whole thing makes me wonder whether BT really does anything about these reports.
The odd thing is that when you follow the advice to forward the spam email you are stripping off the information that is not displayed that BT technicians could use to track down the source. Sending it as an attachment preserves that information but I've no idea whether either of these reporting addresses is set up to do anything with email attachments. Greg

  • Phishing Email 28/11/2012

    Good Afternoon Folks
I Downloaded "Galaxy on Fire 2 HD" on my new I-Pad Mini from the App Store today and almost immediatly received the following E-mail
    Dear Xxxx Xxxxxx,
Your Apple ID, [email protected], was just used to purchase Gift Certificate for [?] from the iTunes Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID.
If you made this purchase, you can disregard this e-mail. It was only sent to alert you in case you did not make the purchase yourself.
If you did not make this purchase, we recommend that you go toiforgot.apple.com to change your password, then see Apple ID: Tips for protecting the security of your account for further assistance.
    Regards,
    Apple
Obviously i have removed my name and E-mail address from the e-mail, But the senders address read as *[email protected]*, after much searching on the Internet and reading through other peoples support posts I cant seem to find an E-Mail address to forward this Phishy E-mail to!, i assume and hope that apple take this kind of thing seriously and if so they should at least be working toward making their account facilities a lot safer than it is at the moment. I am sadly too aware of the these type of E-mails that attempt to get us to freely hand over our account details or address etc but the fact that this e-mail was sent to my account within seconds of me downloading an App directly from the App-Store is quite alarming as i thought such a Company like Apple would have account security as Tight as a drum!, i also without proof i wont be slinging any dirt towards Fish Labs who made Galaxy on Fire 2 HD as I've owned the non HD version for a while and never had this happen before. So if anyone knows of the legitimate contact e-mail address for the extremely hard to find the *Apple Phishing E-Mail Fraud Division* or whatever it's called please reply to me and I'll happily forward my Phishy Correspondence to them.
    Thank's for Reading.

Thx for the info, I did Reset my password straight after I got the e-mail just to be safe through i-tunes itself on my PC. But as you can see it says i apparently bought a gift certificate which i didn't i bought a game, but I'd love to able to forward this e-mail on to Apple so they can at least try and figure out where it came from and how it got actively sent to my e-mail address that's registered with apple due to my action of buying an app in their app store. none of my apple products are Jail-broken so this whole affair is rather strange to me, I've received my fair share of Phishing emails in the past but all of them have been randomly timed inbound communications but never like this.
