Attempting to force DSL users to change to FIOS?

For the past several weeks  I have been having intermittent DSL outages, and they seem to have gotten worse as time goes on. Over the Labor Day weekend, I had no connection for more than half the time. I even went as far as to take the modem outside to the network interface box, and connect it directly, ruling our any issues with the home wiring.
I finally braced myself and called for service. The first five (yes five) attempts to reach someone ended with the automated system cutting me off. I finally was able to reach a human after refusing to deal with the automated system, and continually saying the word "operator" until the system connected me to a human.
After giving the woman my information, she put me on hold for a few minutes, and told me that they were having problems with the DSL in my area. The solution to the problem (according to her) was for me to "upgrade" to FIOS. When I made it quite clear that I had problems with the idea of the FIOS, one of the main ones being that I do not like that I am required to provide electrical power for the phone system, I also have to maintain the battery backup system, and in the event of a power failure (very common in my area, sometimes lasting for several days at a time) would have no phone along with no power at my home.
She tried to tell me that the system did not use that much electricity (no matter how much or how little I would be the one paying for it, not her or Verizon) and that she had never had a problem with no phone service at her home. When I asked her when was the last time she had a power failure at home, she stated that she could not remember as it was long ago.
I also do not want to have to waste a day while they come and install the FIOS, losing a day's worth of work and having my home disrupted by the installation
After it became clear that she was not going to be able to sell me on the "upgrade" she then said that she would transfer me to service, but they would not be able to do much seeing as they were not going to do any upgrades on the existing copper lines. After being transfered and sitting on hold again waiting for service, I once again was cut off.
Amazingly, the next day my DSL returned to working fine the next day. When I left my home that morning, I noticed that one of my neighbors was having FIOS installed. I tend to think that they fell for the sales pitch. My DSL worked well for almost a week, and this morning I again had a 3 + hour outage (I have no idea how long it was, I had to go and use a public connection to get done what needed to be done today.
I know that no one will admit to this, but I have to believe that Verizon is cutting off service in order to push people towards the fiber. I see no reason to spend the time and money to do so, when Verizon right now is not providing the service that I pay for. If I have to switch services, why deal with a company that provides such poor service now?

Seems to me like you should be talking to your power company as well as Verizon. Power regularly being out for days is not a good thing.
As for whether Verizon is cutting off your service to get you to switch to FiOS... Highly unlikely. That would require paying someone to shut off the service, and then paying again the person that takes the call when you complain. Their method of forcing people to FiOS is much more subtle: Dump all the money into the FiOS network, spending money on the copper lines only when they absolutely have to. This is a valid business strategy, but is not very pleasant for those not interested in the move to FiOS.
I have FiOS and am very pleased with it, but you have to get the service that is right for you. Best of luck!

  • Force all users to change their Enterprise passwords with a batch operation

    Hello,
Do you know if there is a way to force all users to change their Enterprise passwords with a batch operation in the SDK? Is there any implementation done?
    Many thanks!
    Bea

You can logon to Enterprise as Administrator in your SDK application. Query all users using following query:
    select * from ci_systemobjects where si_kind='user'
then loop through the collection InfoObjects returned and cast east object to IUser.
Either call setPasswordToChangeAtNextLogon(true) so that the user logs on next time will be forced to change his\her password. Call commit on InfoObjects collection at the end to save the changes.
Otherwise you can call setNewPassword("new password") to reset password for that user.
Depending upon number of users you can do bath commit. You can use commit(infoObjects, true). The 2nd argument is true for batch commit.

    Hi Kiryuu,
Xtras do need to be bundled with your application on the CD.
    They can be
either embedded into the projector or kept external in a
    folder called
Xtras at the same level as the projector.
I have info on this in my Stub projector tutorial at:

Whether using Third party Xtras (Commercial Xtras) or the

  • Forcing a user's password to be expired

I am trying to test my customized change password page. I have updated the URL in the LS_CONFIGURATION table. How can I force a user to produce the change password page so I can test my customized change password page?

Also, is there a way to force the user's password to expire upon first successful login and likely force the user to change the pre-assigned password? This is a requirement on the customer's wishlist.

  • Windows 2008 Terminal Server "user must change password at next logon" problem with Windows 7 client.

    Hi,
I have a fully patched Windows 2008 SP2 Terminal Server and a fully patched Windows 7 client.
I have logged into the Windows 2008 SP2 Terminal Server server with a test account via RDC before.
When I try to log in via RDC to the 2008 TS with a test account which has been marked with the setting "User must change password at next logon" I get the RDC message "You must change your password before logging on the first time.  For assistance, contact your system administrator or technical support."  I need to force the user to change their password once it has been issued, any ideas on how this can be done?
    Thanks,
    Dan

This does not resolve my issue all the way. I'm having the same problem; When i'm "deploying" users, i always want the users to set their own passwords. Ok, so I then set the auth mode to "RDP Security layer". It seemed to work fine, and it does for that
    special purpose.
Just like Daniel, my clients are connecting to our terminal server from several/different "customer-domains" So, they can't logon locally(on their local computer) and change their password, it has to be done THROUGH the terminal server.
But if I turn on RDP Security Layer, users can't use remoteapp through tsgw they only get: "Your Remote Desktop Connection Failed because the remote computer cannot be authenticated" Any ideas?
Also, our terminal servers is round robin based in a farm. So users connect to: tsfarm.domain.com(yes, public a-record which resolves to two internal adresses) This is because, we're using a wilcard *.domain.com as SSL certificate.
But, when i'm using this, our clients sometimes get double auth when they login. I only get the double auth when tsfarm.domain.com resolves to server A, but the session broker wants the user to be on server B.(load balancing)
This does not occur when SSL is enforced, any ideas?

  • Number of days before user must change password.

    Hi,
I understand how does this Essbase server setting work:
Essbase Server Properties - Security Tab
"Number of days before user must change password"
    But my question is:
Does anyone know how "to mark" certain group of Users (mainly system admin accounts) - that this setting will not force periodical passoword change for "marked" users ?
    Any ideas ?
    Br, ripasso

There are a couple of things you could do to circumnavigate this all or nothing option.
You could write a maxl statement that would update the user profile to force the user to change their password e.g.
    alter user Fiona set password_reset_days immediate;
I would write a program using the API that lists all users in the group and then dynamically create the maxl script that uses the statement above.
If you can not use the API then I guess you could do a maxl only solution (using display user command) and do some text file manipulation in perl (or another scripting language).
There are probably more solutions/ideas out there.

  • Force User to Change Requester

I have a client that has buying agents that use iProcurement on the behalf of actual buyers. The client would like to force the agent enter in the actual requester when checking out. The client tried to update the POR_CUSTOM pkg to accomplish this (by setting the requester to an invalid value) but it isn't working as expected. Is there another way to accomplish this? Can we use CheckoutSummaryPG.xml to default to an invalid Requester thus forcing the user to update it?
    Thanks in advance.

I checked the requester_id in the database (to_person_id) at various points in the checkout process and POR_CUSTOM_PKG is setting the it correctly to -1. However, the value is getting updated to the buyer when the requisition is retrieved into the cart (Save req, click on Requisitions tab, click on the incomplete req, click Complete button,"..items in cart, continue?...", click yes).
How do I find the code that updates the requester id when displaying the cart? POR_CUSTOM_PKG.custom_validate_req_line doesn't have any code related to the requester_id.

    Hello,
Suddenly the working CRM is being stopped for some group of users.
I drilled down to the issue and have checked that the users from Domain in which CRM is installed are having CRM access.
But for other domain user having problem to access CRM.
I tried to add a user from a domain which is not of CRM domain then it gives following error.

The change is made - AD group have upgraded Activer Directory server to 2012 R2
Please help as the Production CRM is not working for other domain user.

We have Activer Directory Structure like below.
    One Root Domain says A
and there are multiple child domain like B,C,D etc...
B,C and D are all in same level, they are child of A domain.
There are two way transitive trusts between A and all the child Domain.
But there is no trust in between B and C and so on.
Our CRM server is in B domain and B domain's user can access CRM but users of Domain C,D and so on can not access CRM.

  • Forcing a user to add attachement in wf ?

    hi,
i have a workflow in which a user MUST attach a scanned document. well, how can i force a user to add this attachement. that means "no attachement = no continuing of workflow" !
my workflow starts with a form where i can enter the form, but there it is not a "must".
    best reg, Martin

    hi martin,
thank you as always ! you are doing great work in this forum !
well, what i have thought of: an also 'clean' way is to force the user on the starting form ! the starting form generates a dynpro with the form-fields of the structure AND (on 3 further tabs) you can enter a note and attachements !
isn't it possible to change that ? if there is NO attachement the workflow even can't start. i don't know where to do this ?

  • TMG 2010 publishing Exchange 2010 OWA cannot change password if user must change password at first logon is set

    Hi,
I have an odd issue whereby if I set "user must change password" on an AD account, the end user cannot logon, they're simply taken back to the OWA login page as if their password is incorrect.
    My setup is as follows:
outer TMG -- uses a listener for email.contoso.com and is configured for no authentication. This uses a publishing rule to publish the inner TMG server. This server is not a domain member.
inner TMG - uses a listener for email.contoso.com and is configured for NLTM\kerberos negotiation with forms authentication (Windows Active Directory). This server is a domain member and use a publishing rule to publish the internal CAS. Allow users to change
password is selected in the publishing rules.
Exchange 2010 SP1 - uses integrated windows and basic authentication. Has the appropriate registry key configured to allow users to change their AD password on first logon.
I've registered an snp for "http/email.contoso.com mailserver-dc1", all SSL certificates being used are valid and my configuration used to allow users to login and change their password with "user must change password on first login"
    set in AD.
If I launch a web browser on an internal server and point it to email.contoso.com I'm immediately presented with a generic Windows authentication request (similar to what's seen in ADFS) rather than the standard OWA page. No matter what I do, I cannot login
and change my password using the correct URL. However if I point my browser at
http://192.168.4.10/owa I'm prompted to login and I can change my password using the sam credentials.
The only recent changes made are:
    - Disabling SSL 3.0 and enabling TLS  (http://www.isaserver.org/articles-tutorials/configuration-security/improving-ssl-security-forefront-threat-management-gateway-tmg-2010-published-web-sites.html)
    - Replacing the TMG listener certificates so that they now use SHA2 rather than SHA2 (certificates are trusted on each TMG server)
Looking on the outer TMG and the DC logs I can see schannel errors which I believe are related to the problem. TMG monitoring also shows "Failed connection attempt: 1907 The user'spassword must be changed before logging on for the first time"
I've checked that my inner TMG and DC are using the same certificate for server authentication and gone through this guide:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/keithab/archive/2012/02/29/setting-up-and-troubleshooting-ldaps-authentication-in-forefront-tmg-2010.aspx
If I try to use ldp.exe on the inner TMG, I get the error in the pic below
    Thanks

  • RSOP: Interactive logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration

    Hi,
I am trying to implement a GPO so that users are prompted to change their password 5 days before it expires. I have done this via -
Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Enabled
Interactive Logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration
Despite doing the above the GPO does not seem to be taking effect. I have run RSOP on my machine and a few users machines and can see that there is a red circle with an X next to
Interactive Logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration.
Below is my winlogon.log file but I am not really sure what I am supposed to be looking for. Can anyone help?

    ******UPDATE******
I think I have managed to get this working. I changed the source of the policy to a different GPO. I then did the following -
From a command prompt run gpupdate (without the force parameter)
Ran rsop.msc and checked the policy and this time there was no red circle with an X
Have done the same on a few users machines and it appears to apply successfully. I say this because when you go into the properties for the policy you see the following -
The policy XYZ was correctly applied
Just have to wait and see if it actually does what it says on the can.

  • Force a user event

    Hi,
In a point of my vi I want to force a user event in order to enter in
an event case in run time. I want to simulate an event over a
multicolumn listbox, for example, Double Click.
How can I do it? Some example?
I am working with Create user event, generate user event and destroy user event but I don't know how it works.
    Thanks very much,
    ToNi.

Sorry, the object over I want to force an event is a button and not a multicolumn listbox. It works but.... when I force a Double Click event over that button the user can see how the button is pressed automatically and I don't want the user see it, I would like to do it transparent to the user. I use a value (signaling) property node and I associate to it a true value. Another way to do it?
The event also gets triggered if you wire a FALSE to the Signaling property. It does not matter if the value actually changes, only that the signaling property is written to trigger the event. Try it!

  • DSL user name & password

When I connected my replacement DSL modem/router from Verizon, it connected automatically.  I did not have to enter the Verizon DSL user name and password that were used for my old modem and router.  When I checked the new modem settings, the user name listed is "dslnew" and the password is not visible (only ********).
Do I need to change this to my old login, or just leave as is?

On most VZ modems the default  login is admin and password. Then you S/B prompted to set a new password. Have you tried pressing and holding the reset button (15 seconds) while the modem is on. This will zap any custom settings and set it to factory specs.
Does the modem have a sticker with the default login information on it? (My FIOS router did).
Could you please list the make and model of your modem if this does not help.
