Attr change run in Process chain!

Hi,
For uploading Master data, we do have different process chains ( Eight to Nine ) for each client and for each source system!
Now the requireement is such that there must be only two Two process chains one for daily uploads and another for weekly uploads!
i coule create a Meta chain which shall be calling all the daily upload Process chains in series!
But what about the attribute change runs?
i had actually included this Attr change run process for each client comibing the other process chains ( Attr, Texts and Hierarchy )
Now since the modelling has been changed for the daily and weekly process chains, i am puzzled about the attribute change run processes!
Because we have lot of infoobjects which are existing in both the clients
Any ideas?

Hi Raj,
You can solve your problem in 2 ways :
1.Include Attr.change run in each of your local PC or,
2.In your Meta chain ..arrange your Local Chains in parallel
& have a single Attr.change process...here you can select your object type as Infoobject & include all your Infoobjects... one after another... for which you want to run the Attr.change.

Hi Pratap.
If BI Accelerator is not being implemented by ur company, in that case if change run fails u'll proceed by 'Repeat' process option as usual we do in 3.x.
If BIA is exists, in this scenario u can not repeat as we do in 3.x. U have to drop the indexes on cubes effecting that change run and run the change runs. Once it is finished recreate BIA Indexes on cubes.

You need to schedule an attribute change run when you change master data attributes or hierarchies that are used as navigational attributes or in aggregates. There is a simple test to check if you need an aggregate change run. Load your attributes and look into the master data table (directly via SE16). If you only have entries with OBJVERS = 'A' (active) then you don't need a change run. If you have entries with OBJVERS = 'I' then you need to schedule a change run after upload.

Problem in Activating Hierarchy Attribute change run through process chain.

Hi All,
I have the problem in Hierarchy change run processw running through process chain..and also process chain completes successfully without any error..
Even hierarchy change run completes successfully the hierarchy objects are not activating,
so daily when i have to activate hierarchy objects manually..
and what i did was in one attributechange run process i have included 10 hierarchy object is it correct or else i have to separatly create 10 attribute change hierachy proceess in the process chain.. pls through some lights on this issue

Hi venkat,
Yes.. i already include the save hierarchies process in process chain...
my main problem is hierarchy infobject are not activating using process chain and also even process chain is not giving error message.. and in which log table the hierarchy objects are maintained (such as run time, date , status etc..).
IS there is any other settings to be made in process chain..

Hi All,
While creating process chain for master data objects. I am trying to incorporate attribute change run process type for an info object. But the system asks for the DTP of the attribute and when i choose the DTP then both DTP and then Attribute are being incorporated. This is not exactly a problem but i need to understand why it is happening as i am already using that DTP to load data. Will this affect the data in master data object?. Thanks in advance.

The reason behind that error could be:
An attempt is made to activate a characteristic whose compounding was replaced and whose navigation attributes were simultaneously deleted. The replacement of the compounding temporarily deletes the M view of the characteristic during internal activation. The process of deleting navigation attributes involves converting the attribute SID tables. However, the M-view of the characteristic, which has just been deleted, is needed for this conversion.
Check this SAP Note:
Note 684405 - Replacing the compounding and deleting navigation attr.

Hi,
Attribute change run in th eprocess chain failed with the message " SQL Error 942" and ran succesfully after repeating the step.Searched in Forums for similar error but the solutions were not apt.

Attribute Change Run in Process Chain Texts?

A simlple question: Do you have an Attributes change run in the end of a Process Chain only containing text? (Master Data text) Or i s it sufficient to have it after attributes?

Hi,
Attribute chage run is meant only for Attr/Hierarchies.
No need to include it for texts.
For the texts changes were automatically reflected with out change run.

I'm making a process chain purely for attributes. Every time I add an infopackage for attributes I get prompted to make an attribute change run. Do I need an attribute change after every attribute infopackage or can I just have one at the end?

Change Run in Process Chains

I am running process chains early morning. I one process chain I am carry out an attribute change run on 0MAT_PLANT and on the other on different InfoObjects. Can these run at the same time or if they do can they cause a lock? Thanks

Funny... My reply would have been "no", as in our system parallel activation always creates lock situations. We do all our attribute change runs in serial.

Master data loads vs attr change runs

Hi experts,
I need to load master data daily and want to know the difference between attribute change runs and process chains for master data. Please explain with steps. I know how to create process chains.

Attribute change run is nothing but adjusting the master data after its been loaded from time to time so that it can change or generate or adjust the sid's so that u may not have any problem when loading the trasaction data in to data targets.
Whenever master data attributes or hierarchy is loaded an attribute chnage run need to be performd due to the following reasons:
1. When a master data is changed/updated it gets loaded into the master data table as version "M"(modified). It is only after a attribute chnage run that the master data becomes activated i.e. version "A".
2. Master data attributes and hierachies are used in cube aggregates also. So to do update the latest master data attributes values in the aggregtes attribute change run need to be performed.

Hi guys;
Is there a program to run the att change run. I have several att and hier loading via process chain and I want to execute the program if we have any to execute the attr change run at the end of the process chain. I came accross with RSDDS_AGGREGATES_MAINTAIN, is this the correct one?

Hi,
yes, its the right one.
To avoid activating all pending infoobjects and rollup in aggregates, which can take hours if you have many and big aggregates, create a variant where you select the infoobjects and hierarchies from your process chains. You can trigger an event after successfull loading and laoding with failures. You can select this variant in the process step.
Othwerwise you may risk that another load process may abort because the locks for master data cannot be set because of the change run.

Attr change run failed with exception

hi all,
My process chain failed at ACR( attr change run) with exception
"UNCAUGHT EXCEPTION" ...I 've again scheduled that process but it again
got failed.
I am not able to undestand what is the problem?
does anybody have any idea how to resolve this?

Attr change run for huge PC!

Hi,
I have 30 infopackages which i had included in a new process chain and for all infoobjects i had created only one attr chnage run by including all the relevant info objects in the variant of aatr change run!
there are actauuly some parellel processes as well in the end of PC!
So how should i connect the attr change run process to the PC!
just connecting to any of the IP s is OK? or i need to connect every IP to the attr change run which are ending the chain?

You can design your PC.
If you are running change run after every load then you may run into change run locking issues...
You can do onething load all attributes .. run the change once then...
Load all hiers.. then run change run once...
then load text...

Attr change run cannot preceed Data Load?

I need to make attr change run before loading data, because these active MD should be used in data loading routines. When checking this chain BW shows message " A type "Attribute Change Run" process cannot precede process "Execute InfoPackage" var. ZPAK_E5NXARYHE6BXRST2FD3YZAN7B in the ch".
Why? Is that because change run only activated and chain doesnt wait for change run end and starts next process?
Or I can suppress this warning?

normaly attribute/hierarchy change run is performed after all data loading finished, it should put after the infopackage process.

But here I need to schedule another load after this change run. And I want to use results of this change run in this load.
BTW, when running this chain I have dump on this infopackage load with OPEN_DATASET_NO_AUTHORITY on lines
OPEN DATASET L_PFILENAME FOR INPUT IN TEXT MODE
 ENCODING DEFAULT
 IGNORING CONVERSION ERRORS.
When I schedule this package manually everyting is OK.

Error while running the process chain

Hi, I am getting following error while running the process chain.
"Lock NOT set for: Deleting the data completely from a data target"
Please suggest.

This is due to a lock on the objects which is being used by ur load.
Even if master data used by this would be in a lock by an attribute change run. wait till that attribute change run finishes and then repeat.
If this target itself is locked by someother process like rollup , compression , this error would appear. In this case also repeat the step after those locking process finish.
some general locks during loading:
Sometimes parallel processing in DTP might lead to this, its better set the DTP and infopackage in serial processing. In this case change the settings and then repeat the process.
There is a specific case in which the Serial DTP gets locked by itself, in this case repeat it untill it succeeds.
You can identify the above scenario as below. This is applicable only if the DTPs processing mode is serial.
if u see in SM 37 this load would have three DTP processes running.
it should have only two.
In this case cancel the process and repeat it untill u get it right.
