Audigy 2 ZS issue, Unwanted So

Hi there,
I recenlty moved my PC from one room to another, I have an audigy 2 ZS with creative inspire 700 speakers. Ever since the move, every few minutes I'm getting a low level noise coming from the speakers. It always the same noise and tone and I can't pin it down to any paticular speaker i'm afriad.
I've made sure all the drivers are upto date and all wiring is correct but can't seem to get rid of it. I do also have an onboard sound system ( nforce 2 ) which I use for my headset but thats always been enabled and this sound is new.
Any ideas people?
Thanks
Sam

Sounds like AC hum. If you moved to a spot which has high voltage wiring right behind the wall, the electromagnetic field will reach the field around your speaker and create the distortion. Are your speakers hanging on the wall? Is there a high voltage appliance (220v) on the other side of the wall (like a washer/dryer, AC unit, electric stove, electric water heater, etc.)? Also, AC hum can come from smaller voltage things if they aren't shielded properly. For the best sound, keep your speakers away from power strips and transformers, and always keep the cover on your computer.
Oh, and make sure you plugged them into the speaker output, and not the headphone output. The headphone output is not designed to dri've a device that has a preamp, which will cause a similar hum distortion.

• Audigy 2 ZS issues, prof help plea

Hello everyone... I've have the Audigy 2 ZS Plat for over a year now. It's a awesome card, except for the last year it's always made hissing, crackling, digital noises when i play games, or even music. I've narrowed it down.. It ONLY happens when I'm pressing a key. Yes, bizzare I know. I've tried mulitple keyboards.. i just cant figure it out so I thought maybe some of you fine folks could help me! So far, i've all kind sof drivers and hardware config's cant think of anything, Someone please help!!! -Thanks!!

hi all
I am also having a similar issue, and also noticed it when playing BF2. My PC and audio have been sweet since I built it over xmas, but last night I started gettting crackles, and static here and there, and the sound of my gun in BF2 stopped working, all other sounds were fine, but these hisses and crackles etc got progresi'velly worse, and I thought I could even hear some of the audio clips you here when going through the software setups etc for the sound card. I close down BF2 and the noises remain.
I thought it might be my drivers so I uninstalled and installed the card again with the latest drivers (newer than what I had), still have the problem. Game starts up, all is OK and slowly the sound creep in untill unplayable.
I thought it might be the game, so I tried other things like itunes, and that did the same, tried team speak with a friend, and the same.
I'm finding it hard to search for this problem on the internet as people discribe the problem/noise differently so doesnt come up in the many searches I have done.
I have USB keyboard mouse, asus A8N deluxe with onboard audio disabled, winxp pro sp2, 7800gt video card, everything is up to date.
if anyone finds a solution etc, please let me know, or post here.

• Neo4-F + Audigy 2 Platinum issue

Hi all!
I've had an audigy 2 platinum sitting around my house since it originally came out. I never installed it on my new board because I was lazy, and impressed with the onboard sound. I'm a musician and gamer and it is time to get that crisp sound back.
I installed the card and about 20 minutes later, my computer blue screened and made a horribly high pitched noise until it rebooted itself. After rebooting, the frequency of these reboots increased. I turned off onboard audio and switched pci-slots, neither solved the problem. I figured the card was static-shocked or simply dying, and I bought a replacment. The replacment does the exact same thing!
Now that I'm on my second card, I leaning towards a compatibility issue with the motherboard. My computer runs oh so sweet until an audigy is placed in it.
The blue screen refers to something like "IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_NOT_EQUAL." That may not be exactly it, but I think its close.
I've live-updated the board and have the latest BIOS. No overclocking.
My machine in a nutshell.

It is Vista. Doesn't support games that use hardware accelerated surround sound. Try to use the Alchemy software provided by Creative (for a fee for Audigy users, for free for X-Fi ones) if your games are on the ones that are supported - the ones that uses DirectX for sound.Unfortunately Half-Life2 uses a proprietary sound system and is not supported. The link is http://www.soundblaster.com/alchemy/ Warning: STUPIDLY long waiting time till all the stuff on that page is loading! The games that use OpenAL don't need Alchemy, will work fine under Vista.

• Audigy 4 Microphone Issue, He

I recently purchased an Audigy 4 Sound Card. My headset was a logitech; it worked fine right up until I installed the Audigy 4. Now I've got awesome sound, but cannot record; or talk in my Teamspeak. I've done all the normal checks in making sure my card was selected in Teamspeak and making sure that my microphone is not muted. I then purchased another headset, A eDimensional Audio FX with force feed back. This thing is killer, but guess what, no microphone there either. I can take both headsets and hook them up to my older computer and it works fine. I have installed, uninstalled and re-installed all the lastest drivers and still no go.
I can even take a regular "stick" microphone and plug it into the new sound card and voice recording works fine. Now here comes the stupid question:
There are two hookups on the new headset...one USB and the other end has the regular twin plugs for speakers and microphone. Should my headset be listed in the properties under, control panel, sound and audio? Because if its supposed to be there it aint.
God I hope someone can help me with this....this is driving me absolutely insane.
Thanks!
SHOTGUN

Applications can change the recording source by themselves. Some games which expect the microphone to be plugged into the first microphone jack on the card will by default change the recording source to vanilla "mic."
There's currently no way to lock the recording source at the moment.

• Audigy 2NX Recording Issu

I am using the Audigy 2NX Sound Blaster to record voice recordings used for a training demo. I have tried recording and saving as both wav and Mp3. For some reason the recording sounds like there is small echo. To be more specific, it sounds like a PA system used in a huge auditorium, where there sounds to be a lot of 'background' noise. I have tried recording in different rooms, especially where there is little or no air movement, but no luck. Is there anything else I can try with the system? Thanks!

Is recording source set to "What U Hear"? Don't use this but set it by the source.
Also, check that EAX effects and CMSS are disabled (if NX has these features available).
If you can, switch to proper recording software which supports ASIO or Kernel Streaming device driver mode (IIRC, NX supports ASIO and if not then Asio4All is the way to go). Especially ASIO is good for recording work. There are plenty of these even as freeware.

• Audigy line-in issues

for some reason my mixer thinks that the line in on my audigy card is a mic in.  this is a problem because the sound is extremely muffled, even with the 20+ boost turned on.  I can't switch it to the mic-in because that creates feedback into my mixer (external mixer for turntables).  in the mixer (gnome-alsamixer) i only have a "TriTech TR28602" tab, however on other systems (ubuntu, which i played with for a bit) there would be another tab for the OSS compatibility which is what i used to adjust the volumes and it worked fine.
i followed the instructions of the wiki here and also turned up other volumes since i have surround sound.
snd-emu10k1 and snd-pcm-oss are both loaded by rc.conf (snd-emu10k1 first, then snd-pcm-oss).
any ideas?  thanks!

try here:

what I get from it is basically this:
you need to add some options to modprobe.conf for the module, to indicate different line in/out combos
options snd-emu10k1 extin="???" extout="???" (see below)

• Soundblaster Audigy Major XP Issu

Hi All
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the low down. Basically i went out and bought a Sound Blaster Audigy SE card today because the on board sound on my motherboard is only playing on one channel.

The system has all new components ram HDD and PSU even Graphics. . .
because it wouldnt successfully load in removed the card and managed to get into safe mode once. Stupidly i restarted and didnt uninstall the drivers... bACK TO SQUARE ONE. PC does not load and have now had to resort to a fresh install of XP which isnt working either this freezes too. Can someone please help or at least tell me what to do if i manage to get the system back online... do i use different drivers or install it via the windows add hardware dialogue box and not close and do it independantly as it said too

After removing loads of hardware and going back to square one it seem to be ok now. A full format and an install of the card through the add hardware dialogue box and not through the sound blaster instructions seems to have done the trick for now... cheers

• Imported Buttons issue - unwanted white edges

Hello All,
I've just converted to Apple Video editing and i've come across an issue in DVD Studio Pro.
When I import a layered shape button in Photoshop, everything does what it should BUT I get this horrible white edge to my buttons.
Here is one example where I have created a 'Button Off'state which is the same colour as the background (i.e. the button should be invisable until selected). The white edge is clearly evident.

I have tried a mask layer but that just looks scruffy.
Please may I have some help sorting this.
Message was edited by: waybye

Hi
Try using the Advanced Color pallete in the button inspector window, using three diferent levels of the background blue:
The attached image use yellow, just use your background blue in the three sliders but with different precents. That will manage the antialiasing borders of your button images.
Hope that helps !

• Dear Jeremy-CL ! Please help me with SB1394 Audigy Platinum ex issue

I have an Audigy Platinum Ex for 4 years and very satisfied . But now i had to install Windows XP SP2 .My firewire sb394 began malfunction with Premier Pro ,5 . Under Windows XP SP everything goes well . With rear motherboard FireWire connector everything works well , but not so comfort like using external Dri've . How can I resolve this problem ? And is it possible to connect internal sb394 cable from Audigy Platinum ex Dri've , to motherboard ASUS P4P800E deluxe internal connector ? It seems to me that they are similar . Best regards from Russia / thank you ! Alexander

You can try this if you have nerves to do it:
. Get Windows XP SP install CD
2. Find following files and uncompress them if necessary
- 394bus.sys (5..2600.06 xpsp.020828-920)
- arp394.sys (5..2600.06 xpsp.020828-920)
- enum394.sys (5..2600.0)
- nic394.sys (5..2600.06 xpsp.020828-920)
- ohci394.sys (5..2600.06 xpsp.020828-920)
- 394.inf (5..2535.0)
3. Open command prompt, type sfc /purgecache and press enter key
4. Copy file 394.inf to C:\WINDOWS\INF overwriting existing file
5. Copy files with names ending in .sys to C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
6. Copy all .sys files to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers overwriting existing files
7. If windows asks for CD cancel it to prevent it to restore files
8. Double check if the files you copied are still there and if not repeat from step 3 until you get it right
9. Uninstall firewire adapter from device manager
0. Reboot and pray
Basically that should force your XP SP2 to use Firewire drivers from XP SP. It may not work (I haven't tried it) and it may trash your machine leading to reinstallation but it may also fix things for you. Let me know if it worked.

Does this driver improve sound quality or performance Are there any tweaks ?
No, this driver does not improve sound quality nor increase performance.
No, there are no tweaks.
If someone states that its driver improves sound quality and performance, you are being fooled, cheated.
It is even worse that the so called tweaks come from a person who is not EVEN technically acknowledged, does NOT know anything about Windows internals, software engineering and sound fidelity that all audiophiles always look for.
If you "feel" the sound better, that is the infamous placebo effect and there is no real proof that any tweaks work.
In fact, I have yet to see a driver that states in its release notes that it improves sound quality.
I've disassembled about every single .SYS driver, .DLL libraries and .EXE executables and found nothing.
There are some undocumented registry values, but nothing related to sound quality or performance.
Would the so called tweaks even exist, they would be in my Support Packs, you can bet that.
Fixes and improvements:
- Fixed Audigy 5/RX support.
- Readded "EndPoint Utility" to enable the use of other digital devices to output Dolby Digital Live encoded audio.
- Fixed driver installation issues on Windows 10.
- Fixed Audigy "1" or Audigy 2 mute issue.
- Audigy RX is now fully supported.
- EAX Console now works on Windows Vista or later.
- Karaoke effects now work properly on Windows Vista or later, just use EAX Console to enable them. Effects will only be applied to the Microphone input.
- Sound Blaster Audigy Control Panel now available for all cards, but it lacks many settings available on Audio Console, so use the later.
- Added instructions on how to install the Gameport.
- Fixed missing speaker settings strings on Windows XP when DDL is enabled.
- Improved driver installation, less confirmation prompts.
- Improved setup procedure and scripts.
- Removed Encode switcher for now, only DDL is available.
- Installation now customizable, select what you want to install.
- New integrated Post Driver Install Helper tweaks the driver without tampering certificate.
- CMSS2 is now available.
- OpenAL 64-bit support.
- Dolby Digital Live now works on Windows 8.1 (update 1). Creative Audio Service was not being installed on that OS.
- Special FX, Advanced EQ, Studio and Custom presets now available on Windows Vista or later.
- Audio Console does not crash anymore on non-English localized installs. Localized resources for Online Karaoke tab were missing; added mostly localized Korean and Chinese (Traditional) resources.
- Online Karaoke page is available for all Audigy cards on Windows Vista or later; this is NOT a new feature, but an easier way to configure the Microphone.
- EAX Settings for Windows Vista or later includes EAX Studio, a fancy version of EAX Control Panel, no changes in functionality, except the Test button now works.
- Added fully localized Korean and Chinese (Traditional) resources for EAX Studio, which were missing.
Undocumented fixes by Creative (not listed in the release notes):
- Headphone mode now sticks and does not revert automatically to Speakers mode on Windows Vista or later.
- Special FX, Advanced EQ and Studio presets were not working on Windows Vista or later.
Release Notes:
IMPORTANT: Driver uninstall on Windows Vista or later
The included driver for Windows Vista or later has a bug that causes a stop (blue screen) error when unloaded by disabling the Audigy or uninstalling the driver.
To workaround this issue, run the KillDrv.exe utility included and restart when asked to do so. Proceed normally and uninstall all the software or only the driver.
If you have previously installed the Audigy 5/RX driver, you MUST run this utility.
As the KillDrv verify the driver version installed, running it won't do any harm, even if the driver version is not affected.
HOW TO INSTALL THE GAMEPORT DRIVER
You can find a Gameport\ReadMe.htm file in the folder where you unpacked the Support Pack.
Just follow the steps shown in the screenshots.
WINDOWS 8.1 OR LATER DOES NOT SAVE SETTINGS
- Configure all settings and shutdown. Your settings will be saved.
- This does not work if you disable Fast startup permanently or temporarily (by holding the Shift key while shutting down).
- On Windows 10 you need to run the application with Administrator privileges (right-click and choose Run as Administrator). This is valid for all applications used to configure the card.
OpenAL 2D benchmark in RightMark 3DSound crashes your system
The included driver for Windows Vista or later has a bug that crashes your system if you run the OpenAL 2D benchmark using 63 buffers.
No problem With 62 or fewer buffers.
OpenAL 3D and OpenAL 3D + EAX benchmarks are not affected.
Details: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0x000000D1) - ctoss2k.sys
There is no DirectSound hardware acceleration on Windows XP 64-bit (x64) with 4GB RAM or more
The Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, disabling the DirectSound hardware acceleration and causing multichannel sound to be played only in the stereo channels (front left/right).
Workarounds:
- install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows XP.
- limit to less than 4GB the amount of RAM available to Windows.
- enable the "Memory Hole" setting in the BIOS Setup, if your motherboard supports it.
- install and use Creative ALchemy to convert the DirectSound API calls into OpenAL, which is not affected by this issue.
Karaoke effects make the audio play in mono
You can avoid this issue by using EAX Console to enable Karaoke effects. Audio Console is affected by the issue.
Optionally, follow the steps below.
Open EAX Settings, select a Karaoke effect, then click the Edit button.
Click on the Source (Wave) tab and change the Original sound to 100% and Pitch Shift to 0%. Click the Save environment button.
Repeat the steps for all Karaoke effects.
These changes will be valid only for the current speaker configuration. If desired, repeat the same process for each speaker configuration.
MediaSource DVD-Audio Player system requirements
- 32-bit edition of Windows XP or later
- any Audigy 2, Audigy 2 ZS or Audigy 4 card
Built-in Decoder on Windows Vista or later
To use the built-in decoder, make sure it is enabled in Audio Console.
Select "SPDIF Out (Creative SB Audigy (WDM))" as the output device of your player and then configure the AC3/DTS filter to send the stream through SPDIF.
When you restart your computer, the Tone settings (Bass and Treble) are not applied.
Just readjust one of the controls one time per boot.
Equalizer and EAX effects are not available when using OpenAL or ALchemy
Only Tone (Bass and Treble) and CMSS 3D (CMSS, CMSS2 and Stereo Surround) features are available.
There is no sound in games with OpenAL support
Disable Advanced EQ and Special FX by selecting "No effect" before running the game or program.
Equalizer settings are not applied after using OpenAL or ALchemy
After you run a game with OpenAL support or using Creative ALchemy, the Equalizer settings are applied.
Just run Equalizer and the saved setting is loaded automatically.
Tone settings are lost when speaker configuration is changed
Bass and treble settings reset to their default values when speaker configuration is changed.

Unfortunately I don't have a sample card to test personally and don't know anyone with an Audigy 5/RX.
Anyway, I have a suggestion.
Run EndPtUtl.exe found in the Audio Console installation folder.
If the issue still persists, try to use the Digital Output (Coaxial/Optical) of another device, provided that you have any on your computer.
EndPtUtl.exe enables the use of any device for outputting encoded audio.

(***) - Requires Audigy 2, Audigy 2 ZS ou Audigy 4

Karaoke Player
You can use hardware or software-based Microphone effects.
If you select an effect in the Karaoke Player itself, it will be software-based and you might experience delays or increased CPU utilization.
If you enable the Karaoke effect in the EAX Console, it will be hardware-based (using the Audigy DSP) with no delay and not relying in the system's CPU. Highly recommended.
I did not make any extensive tests, so please try the software-based Microphone effects and share your experiences.

• Audigy 2 Platinum big probl

Hi,
Im a Flightsimmer and useing Flightsim FS2004 (aka FS9.) with some addon planes and until now newer had any problems until I bought an addon for FS9 CaptainSim C-30. The following habbened. Between 2-5min inflight the whole sim + windows freezes and a sound (no BIOS sound)?comes from the speakers I know that by just turning the volume down on the speakers. Im not able to close the sim or?windows down normaly only by useing the On/Off botton. Beli've when it habben first time?it freaked me out and never had this problem with any demanding?or advance addons (or more demanding that this C-30 addon). On CaptainSims site they?inform that there are an Audigy 2 driver issue with this product. My question is can a soundcart/driver crash a whole system the way it does on my system (I have latest driver installed via the auto download)?. What can I do software/firmware vice to better my situation with this soundcart?I do have problems to get the right support from them even though it`s a known issue with the product (they are quiret). My computer spec are way above the requirement published on the website. Please can some one here point me in some direction. Kind regardsPingo.

I came here looking for this exact problem. However mine is NEVER in sync when I use the SPDIF mode. As soon as I turn it to normal stereo it works fine. In a related issue, the sound playback of any DVD is about half of everything else on my system. I have to turn up the volume to about 80% to hear a DVD at a listenable level whereas normal volume for me is at 40%.
My stats are as follows: P4 3.2c, Abit IC7-G, 2GB DDR PC3200, Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, BFG 6800GT OC, XP Home SP2, and the Nvidia DVD Decoder. Everything is running the latest drivers. The volume problem has been happening ever since I purchased this ZS. I never had the problem with my older Audigy 2. The SPDIF issue is new to me since I have only recently been using it. Any ideas?
